I am considering some laptops and the sony vaio is one of them. I have heard great things about the screen but it is glossy, something I have sworn off all these years. I have seeing reflections on my screen. how the anti-reflective screen performs?

It has a lovely screen which doesn't have much of a gloss to it, so I can only assume it is what you would consider an antiglare or matte screen (I believe the quality may be better, but that isnt my concern at this point). What I'm wondering is if the matte appearance of the two is comparable or of the mpb screen is totally different...

Also I need to be able to see what's on the screen so for 13 inch a basic resolution. Am I right in assuming there is a Vaio Z series with a matte screen? I am very sensitive to glossy and some LED screens.. I hope Sony's LED is a good one.

Do all Dell E5400 have a matte screen? I want a matte one not glossy. Also when I choose LED screen for my custom E5400 it would not let me. And in general how is this laptop for basic use?

I don't want to start this whole 'matte vs. glossy' debate again, but needless to say I work in a bright office and my DV4T's reflections are killing me
So far I've found the business Elitebooks look nice and have matte screens, but they're a tad behind, say, the HDX systems in terms of the available configurations.

From what I've been reading the screen in the covert is way too glossy so I want a Matte screen, but still LED.
Today I installed Windows 7 on my Studio 1537,
but it occured to me that my notebook screen does not turn off when I close the lid.
I installed all the latest drivers from the Dell website and everything works fine, besides this little problem. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? It used to work in Vista...
but I can confirm just now that I took the plastic cover off b/c I could not stand the glare anymore, and it's a very nice matte screen underneath!
Now I am going to follow the other bold gentleman and cut out that clear plastic, leaving myself with an antiglare xps 1640!
The plastic is actually 1 mm thick as the xps1340 poster (livincali) stated. I was worried that for some reason the xps 16 would be slightly differently built than the xps 13, but it's not with regards to the screen.
I am confident that the plastic can be cut out with an exacto knife, if not just a pair of scissors.
I do not have any sandpaper .....
if anyone can confirm that the matte 17" unibody has the same screen (higher colour range) as the new glossy 17" with just a different finish?

question:
does your screen turn off after you close the lid while its on?
mine doesnt, and im wondering if it has something to do with the sensors on the lcd (if any).. or is the screen not supposed to turn off when you close the lid?
I am having an issue with the screen of my laptop. had bought the laptop jus 3 days back.. :( the problem I am facing is that... once I close my lid and open in in a few seconds, it still gives me a blck scree which does not respond. however If the let the lid be closed for a longer period life 10 sec it works normally.  Previously today I experienced an other issue, that was, once I closed the lid and opened it back, it gave me a black screen with one bright spot. bt this was gone after pressing the power button a few times.

Overnight a problem with the screen on my Sony Vaio FZ has become apparent. A think multi colour bar had started to appear at the bottom of the screen. I am not entirely sure if the problem is related to the 8400GT graphics processor, I have had a preciously faulty one replaced which I hope reduces the likelihood that the graphics processor is the culprit. I am just going through now backing up my data in case the fault spreads further. My eye sight may not be sharp enough but it may have expanded.
Note that in the pictures attached it appears green but when I have something else up as wallpaper, or a program open, the colours change to reflect in some way what is on the rest of the screen. For example when I have word opinion the blue background appears black on the bar, the text area is a shade of grey. Also, my taskbar is not that thick. My available space on screen has not gone away as much as the fault bar suggests it should have, it is as though my screen has adjusted in some way.
I've reading the VAIO Z thread and quite a few people has experienced scratches on the LCD screen caused by the keyboard.

Since getting my Vaio Z I have been really anal about it and looking after it like a new born baby.
I really need to clean my screen but I dont want to scratch or damage it so I am wondering what do you guys use to clean your screens? Is a lint free cloth with some solution ok?

Last night, I brought the notebook out of standby and after a few minutes of working with it, I noticed a vertical region on the right side of the screen that would dim and comeback on again, just like you see with florescent lights when they are faulty. There was no specific pattern to it, just random. I turned the notebook on and off, and the problem seems to be gone. I was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem before or know what it is.

At first there was a big circle with a diameter of 3 inches. then after leaving it idle for about 3 or 4 days, the circle shrinked with a diameter of 2 cm. after that, I left the computer alone for another 4 days and that 2cm circle is still there. i turned the laptop and viewed the screen at a 45 angle and i see one normal drop of water and many small drops in that one area.
should i wait until it dries out? or should i disassemble the screen?
- considering there's no air or anything in the LCD screen itself, i dont think the water will disappear anytime soon. possibly 2 or 4 months? lol =(
water came in contact with the SCREEN only, all other parts (keyboard, speakers, cpu, etc. are CLEAN)
Since many people don't have opportunity to see these laptops in person, it would be nice to see some photos from the screen. It would be nice if some could post pictures from dual lamp screen too, so we can compare the difference.

The only thing that is making me hesitant is the screen brightness of the z. With the plug in and full brightness, it's not that bright, at least NO WHERE NEAR as bright as the macbook pro with high res anti-glare. Is this normal?
How many of you Z owners find the screen brightness too low? Even at full, it feels dim.
I have a Sony Vaio Laptop. Its warranty ended 7th December. Phoned them to get it picked up and now they have it so any work should be covered under warranty.
There is a particle under the screen. I took a picture of it and emailed it to Sony who diagnosed it as dead pixels. They said they would repair it for free under warranty.
Now that they have the laptop they say there is a particle under the screen. They sent me a picture of it and the photo looks identical to what I sent them earlier which they diagnosed dead pixels.
Now they are saying it was accidental damage by me and want to charge to replace the screen (same price as I paid for the laptop).
I think that this is ridiculous and that they should repair it under warranty. They will not accept these two arguments:
1. If I damaged it then I would have had to have opened the screen which there should be evidence of.
2. If the particle got in some other way through a gap then it is a manufacturing flaw because there should be no way of a particle getting in there.
It seems only the 1920 resolution Z has the 96 percent adobe RGB. The screen seems a lot more colorful.
So first the SSD issue, and now this
fairly old Vaio laptop. Can barely get past start up screen. Half the time all i get is black screem when i turn it on. I can get into windows though after a few attempts. I would like to completely reformat it, preferably putting on xp or even the new Windows 7. But i dont have any boots discs. So i don't know how to go about doing it. A breif step by step on how to wipe my laptop would be perfect.
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday my 2 week old laptop was closed, put into a fully padded laptop bag, Velcro strap over to hold it in place. Nothing else in the bag. Put in car, drove 80 miles, took out of car and setup. It noticed a small mark on the screen right where the screen folds down to the track pad. It seems the Back ridge of the track pad, has pushed onto the screen creating this mark.
