Oct 4, 2009is it possible to remove the horrible glare? I found an anti-glare screen protector on ebay.
Has anyone ever had experience with any these? I really would like to lower the glare, because it's hard to use out of the house..

Apr 14, 2010I am ordering a mbp and have yet to experience the glossy vs. antiglare in person. The only thing I have to compare is last years Sony Z. It has a lovely screen which doesn't have much of a gloss to it, so I can only assume it is what you would consider an antiglare or matte screen (I believe the quality may be better, but that isnt my concern at this point). What I'm wondering is if the matte appearance of the two is comparable or of the mpb screen is totally different...

Apr 3, 2009I have a dv5t and as the weather gets nicer here in New England, I am opening the windows and this glare is driving me crazy. I searched the forum and saw a few questions about adding a film or something to prevent glare, but didn't see any suggestions. I'm sure others have been down this path?

May 20, 2010I just got this laptop yesterday, used it till 5% battery and then charged it overnight and today started using on battery power. I am using wifi, brightness at middle with jus surfing, office. It says that I have 3:30 battery life remaining and it fluctuates to 2:49 then 5:01...never above 5:00

Mar 21, 2010I had a chance to stop by at apple store today, and compared the anti glare screens on both 15 inch and 17 inch models. To my surprise, the 15 inch one was much brighter than 17 inch one. I made sure that both had max brightness settings, and it was clear that 15 inch one was superior. maybe this 17 inch display model was defect? anyone has opposite experience? (btw, I hate seeing myself and losing focus because of reflective glassy screens)

May 10, 2010It seems Dell does not have any RGBLED screens available for the XPS 16. What are the biggest advantage of the RGBLED instead of the other options Dell offers? Should I wait for the RGBLED? I'm not going to do any high-end photo or video editing, and I've heard that's one good reason to have that screen.

Mar 17, 2010Just curious if anyone else is having this problem/glitch when I unplug the laptop from AC power and the screen brightness is turned up about more than 1 tick the screen turns really red and dark but then brightens up a second later.

May 5, 2010I just bought a Dell Studio XPS 16 second hand, advertised with an RGBLED screen.
The laptop works great but I am very sceptical about this display, all the reviews harp on about how amazing it looks but I can't really see much of a difference between this screen and my WLED monitor.

Regular glossy is tolerable to me, but the new macbook pro is just ridiculous to my eye.

Feb 27, 2009I recieved my studio 16 2 days back and so far its been treating me well. I got the deal in Canada for a whopping 1350 .
It has the standard features that are found on most dell studio xps 16's here on the forum. I wanted to get some advice from you guys. You see I went with the native WLED 1366X768p screen and I am not too happy with it. When I was customizing the system I didn't see a point in spending 300 additional bucks on the higher end screen. However now I am thinking of getting the 1090p resolution LCD. How has the experience been for people that have the RBGLED? Is there a way to get it at a lower price? and is there a way to get higher display resolution on this current screen? perhaps through a different GPU? I am just considering my options here since I really do like this laptop everything is fine. I guess I'm just looking for a more crisp resolution and the price is too high
Dell :: Studio XPS White With RgbLED
Feb 28, 2010When I go on the Dell website (both Canadian and American, although I am in Canada) and I customize one of these laptops with the rgbLED display, as soon as I switch the system colour to any other colour than the default black the rgbLED switches to a WLED, but the cost stays the same.
Is this a glitch, when it says WLED does it actually mean rgbLED? (or else why does it still cost the same) I was curious because I was definitely getting interested in the rgbLED, but I would much rather have the laptop in white.
Dell :: Studio XPS 1645 RGBLED
Dec 18, 2009So I recieved my laptop yesterday and opened it up today. I got everything set up and messed around, yet had to go out for a little while. I left it off power yet when I went to start it up the screen didn't come on! The side light is constantly white when plugged in, and an external monitor works perfectly fine. Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot this issue? I there any button I could have pressed to cause this problem? Or is a call with dell my only answer?
*UPDATE* Issue resolved by buckZor: Shutdown gracefully, disconnect power. Remove battery. Wait 3 minutes. Plug battery back in & power, open and boot. Display light up?

May 19, 2009I just got my new system yesterday, and the screen is mighty bright, with very bright and detailed colors, which seem fake and cartoonish...
It's a beautiful screen, just bright... The colors seem like they are highlighted, and not natural.

Feb 9, 2010So I've been following the RGBLED calibration thread and don't think i've found my answer through all the ICC profiles and whatnot.
I've had a Studio XPS 1640 which i exchanged for a 1645. The 1640's screen was showing up as way too saturated with blue causing everything to have very cool overtones. I had that screen replaced only to see the same issue.
Upon receiving my new 1645 I've noticed the same thing. The screen (although slightly to a lesser extent) is still pushing way to cool a picture. None of the ICC profiles have helped other than to push too much green as a result of the change.
My question is should I consider this to be an issue and request a replacement screen. Is there anyone out there who doesn't have an over saturation of the RGB colors in their display? I've seen people complain about too much reds and some with too much green. Also the display going to 1 of the 3 colors entirely. (I have not experience this)
I'm comparing this to my Dell Dimension 2200 Monitor which although is not RGB LED i would assume color accuracy would be near to (although more vibrant) as my samsung 245BW LCD.
Things I've tried. (all of the ICC Profiles provided in the display thread, Windows 7 Color calibration and finally ATI's Color control system in the CCC.

There is some screen behavior that has me a bit confused though and I'm hoping someone here might have thoughts or advice about it.
Every now and again, the screen gets just a bit dimmer for just a very brief moment, not much, just a bit, and pretty quickly, and then comes back to normal. It almost looks like it wants to go into it's "power saving" mode or something, for a moment, and then back out .....

Apr 27, 2010but I can confirm just now that I took the plastic cover off b/c I could not stand the glare anymore, and it's a very nice matte screen underneath!
Now I am going to follow the other bold gentleman and cut out that clear plastic, leaving myself with an antiglare xps 1640!
The plastic is actually 1 mm thick as the xps1340 poster (livincali) stated. I was worried that for some reason the xps 16 would be slightly differently built than the xps 13, but it's not with regards to the screen.
I am confident that the plastic can be cut out with an exacto knife, if not just a pair of scissors.
I do not have any sandpaper .....

Jan 11, 2009After a very unsettling chat with a customer representative, most likely from India, who clearly knew nothing about any of the questions I directed at him (for example, s/he was clueless on what Centrino was), I decided to maybe try another rep. However I was astonished to find that suddenly all their customer support agents were busy (even though the wait time was 0 minutes before).
I suspected foul play, reconnected my DSL to obtain a new IP, and suddenly wait time was 0 again. Coincidence... I think not. If you want to implement some form of spam abuse tactic, then clearly explain this and not give some -and-bull story that your agents are "busy". Absolutely despicable.
Dell :: D520 Taken Apart + Added A Dust Filter For Fan
Dec 13, 2009Well, i took my D520 apart to give it a clean... And then it hit me to add a dust filter on the fan so it does not get dusty.
I had a OEM speaker out of my Taurus, and that has this very thin cloth like material covering the speaker for what ever reason
might just look nicer then seeing the speaker) I cut a little square out, and then placed it under the fan. The fan holds the filter nicely, and it does not take away from the cooling

Apr 30, 2010I need to import some LP's to digital format. At one time I had a program that allowed me to filter out any hiss or noise without degrading the recording. But sadly I can not find that program now. So is there any filters that come with GarageBand or can be added to do this. Or any other application that will work with a mac.
I need to import 100+ LP's. I will be using a preamp to take the phono players output directly into my MBP.

Sep 9, 2009I am about to take delivery of a new M4400 with all the bells and whistles, running vista ultimate 64, and plan to upgrade to Win 7 in the near future.
My faithful Latitude D600 circa 2003 has been running on AVG free edition and without significant issues, and also I am using Zone alarm as the firewall.
I am not certain you can get these in 64 bit, or even if they are the better solutions these days, so looking for alternatives.
