I just got this laptop yesterday, used it till 5% battery and then charged it overnight and today started using on battery power. I am using wifi, brightness at middle with jus surfing, office. It says that I have 3:30 battery life remaining and it fluctuates to 2:49 then 5:01...never above 5:00
View 4 RepliesI am ordering a mbp and have yet to experience the glossy vs. antiglare in person. The only thing I have to compare is last years Sony Z. It has a lovely screen which doesn't have much of a gloss to it, so I can only assume it is what you would consider an antiglare or matte screen (I believe the quality may be better, but that isnt my concern at this point). What I'm wondering is if the matte appearance of the two is comparable or of the mpb screen is totally different...
View 10 Replies View RelatedI had a chance to stop by at apple store today, and compared the anti glare screens on both 15 inch and 17 inch models. To my surprise, the 15 inch one was much brighter than 17 inch one. I made sure that both had max brightness settings, and it was clear that 15 inch one was superior. maybe this 17 inch display model was defect? anyone has opposite experience? (btw, I hate seeing myself and losing focus because of reflective glassy screens)

I have a dv5t and as the weather gets nicer here in New England, I am opening the windows and this glare is driving me crazy. I searched the forum and saw a few questions about adding a film or something to prevent glare, but didn't see any suggestions. I'm sure others have been down this path?

I am debating buying the new 15inch MBP core i5 or the Sony Vaio Z for a development laptop to run Windows 7. If the new MBP runs Windows 7 very nicely then I might go with it over the Sony Vaio Z.
I realized while browsing through Apple's site that they are offering the new 17" with this processor, yet I don't see it listed on Intel's site.
What are the differences of the 2.93 Ghz in the 17" and the 2.8 Ghz found in the 15"?

Not trying to bash Apple, but I'm genuinely curious: If Apple markets their laptops as being the best in the market and having the latest technology, why do they not use the Core i7 processors, which are newer than the Core 2 Duos? The TDP is the same as the C2D T-series for the i7 Q720 and Q820: 35 W + 10 W for NB.

Anyway, it's blazing fast, and with a fresh OS X install on her OCZ Vertex SSD, she's up and running and very happy. She's MORE than glad to be rid of the utterly awful 1440x900 resolution, and up to 1680x1050 (though she'd still prefer 1920x1200...).
It seems a very speedy upgrade from her 2008 unibody: 2.53Ghz C2D, 4GB, etc. I have to say, the inertial scrolling is very cool, and sort of a crime that Apple is currently only letting new owners use it!
i used to have 44 processes at boot but now its at 49 - 51, i have not changed anything or installed anything new? any ideas its been the same for the past 3 days or so and ive tried restarting

My faithful Latitude D600 circa 2003 has been running on AVG free edition and without significant issues, and also I am using Zone alarm as the firewall.
I am not certain you can get these in 64 bit, or even if they are the better solutions these days, so looking for alternatives.

I had a studio xps 16 with the 1080p screen and though it looked great so I would ideally like to get the high resolution screen. However, I wanted to see if I could get some opinions on the readability of the screen, is text readable? Does Mac OS contain a feature like Win 7 where you can increase the text size? I really liked the look and extra space higher resolution screens offer but did notice on the studio xps that without increasing the text size text (which it did by default) text and menus were too small. What are your opinions on the macbook's high resolution screen, which do you prefer?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIt seems most of the people I know who do a lot of burning and use of their superdrive's on the macbook pros are buying external optical drives because the internal optical drive in the mac is failing (not responsive or working anymore).
I'm just wondering, for expensive as Macs are, why is it that this is happening? I thought with the price one could expect high quality parts and not parts that fail within the first two years of owning the laptop.
My MacBook has been acting weird lately. Its fan speeds just go up to as high as 5k while I'm surfing the web (Firefox), 3k on average. No embedded flash videos, etc. I've searched the net for solutions and none of them work for me. I tried checking my Activity Monitor, and the app that uses the highest CPU % is Firefox at 12% at most. I happened to see Quicksilver go up to 97% for a second then it disappeared. I tried looking for any hidden Print Jobs but I had none. I have 1 stuck process according to Terminal, but that's basically it. I have a 2.4ghz white MacBook, 10.5.6.

Regular glossy is tolerable to me, but the new macbook pro is just ridiculous to my eye.
I bought the Acer 1410 with the single core SU3500 Core 2 Solo CPU. It looks like Acer decided to release them with the SU2300 now, which is dual core at 1.2GHz (compared with 1.4GHz of SU3500).
Does anyone have any benchmarks comparing the two, and/or if they have a solid understanding how much better it would perform compared with the SU3500? I also see that the single core AS1410 with Celeron M @ 1.3GHz sells at the same price as the dual core.

What you’ll need :Your new CPU (make sure it's compatible with your system ie; socket, FSB)Latest BIOS from Acer (upgraded to 1.3505 or latest)A good thermal paste (I would recommend Tuniq TX-2 or Arctic Silver 5 as well)Basic tools (screwdrivers, forceps, kitchen paper)Body static discharger (I would definitely recommend this as a precaution)Some alcohol, ear buds, sand paper grid 600,1200 & 2000 (optional for heat sink lapping)Lastly TIME and PATIENCE (you’ll be needing these a lot definitely!)When you’re ready, lets get our hands dirty.

I found out a very good video tutorial on how to disassemble my Aspire notebook on YouTube. So please take your time to view it and follow step by step as shown to help you to go through the process.
Lapping your heat sink (optional)
Although it’s not necessary, but I would recommend this process as another way to improve heat dissipation on your newly installed CPU. Refer to this page for detailed instructions.
The simple process:Clean your heat sink from old thermal paste residues with alcohol or equivalent of it using ear buds and kitchen papers.Apply a 600-grid sandpaper to smoothen the heat sink surface which comes into contact with your CPU.Repeat the process again with a 1200-gid sand paper until you’re satisfied.Finally, finish up by applying a 2000-grid sand paper to give you an almost mirror-finished surface. Wipe clean any dirt and residues left.....................................
