Mar 2, 2009I wanted to buy a laptop from a local dealer. Its a Sony Vaio AGN-AW11Z pre-installed with Windows Vista. I hate Vista. So I requested that he downgrades it to Windows XP SP2.
He called back and said he cant find all the hardware drivers for XP. Has anybody been able to downgrade this notebook successfully? If so where can one get the drivers?

May 10, 2009I have a Vaio Z690 and am using the default 174.49 Nvidia drivers which sony provides. What I am wondering is if there is a better driver I should be using then this one. I have read My discoveries on Vaio Z’s Hybrid Graphics although could someone point me in the right direction of which driver I should be using, that has been verified that will still allow me to keep all the features such as the stamina vs speed mode switch, shortcut buttons, etc with everything working 100%.

Aug 21, 2009My problem is that I bought a VAIO laptop (VGN-FW31M) and it came with windows vista. So I formated it and installed Windows XP PRO SP·3.
(I had the common SATA driver problem but I managed to solve it).
The problem comes when I try to install any driver, even the CHIPSET driver.
I get a message saying:
"This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software. Setup will exit"
I got all the drivers from the sony official site.

Mar 30, 2010Plan to install Windows 7 Professional on VAIO CS17G. Looking around have found that Windows 7 upgrade has caused issues with the Volume Keys Touch Panel, FN Keys & the Web Cam.
Have downloaded the drivers provided by Sony from here, but drivers for the above are not present.

It came with 2 gig RAM,i recently upgraded to 4 .
I knew 32 bit Vista won't use all 4 gig ,but what i did not know was that if i go with 64 bit Vista i'm not gonna have the drivers i need..

Mar 18, 2009finding drivers (Vista 64 bit) for my Sony VAIO VGN-SZ483N. I have the original Vista x86 drivers, but as expected most of them does not like to be installed on a Vista x64 O/S.
Is there a site that someone could recommend please, or has someone with an SZ4xx attempted this "upgrade" and is willing to share his/her experiences.
I have tested my gaming machine with x64 against x86 (both Vista) and could say with reasonable confidence that the x64 installation outperforms the x86 installation without a doubt. It would really be good to change the O/S to x64 from the OEM x86.
Sony :: Vaio FW- To Install Newest GPU Drivers
May 1, 2009I just bought a new sony vaio laptop. I wanted to install the newest 9.4 ATI drivers for the gpu. So heres what happened:
- Downloaded newest drivers from ati official site
- Went to the uninstall programs section in control panel, closes thing I could find to ati drivers was "Ati catalyst install manager", so i uninstalled it and it uninstalled ati drivers within the process.
- Then restarted the laptop
- Then installed newest drivers with the catalyst control center.
- Restarted laptop
- After the restart the highest available resolution was 1400x1050, I couldn't find the ati control centre and can find no evidence of the laptop even recognizing the ATI GPU after the restart.
I've gone through this sequence twice now and each time the drivers haven't been updated properly and the same thing has happened.
I've restored the system so now I have the 8.4 drivers on my gpu but I really can't figure out how to update them,

Jul 17, 2009if there was a way to do a clean install of Vista (preferably Ultimate 64-bit) on the Vaio Z and have functioning s1/s2 and speed/stamina and Wlan controls. I found the guide for 7, I was wondering if there was something like it for vista, or at least a place where i can get the drivers. My viao Z came with alot of "bloatware", and i'd like to have it snappy.

What i have;
I have, as the title sais, a Vaio VPCZ11Z9E with the hybrid graphic system. The drivers i use are the latest ones published by Sony.
The problem;
When i have my computer on stamina mode ie. not using the nvidia geforce card and i right click my desktop to reach the meny for personalize, create new folders etc the meny shows up instantly, no delay at all.
When i have the switch to speed, using my nvidia geforce card(which always use while at work and plugged in) the right click on desktop has delay/lag to show the meny, the windows 7 thinking animation shows up, for up to 3 seconds before it actually pops up.
My conclusion is of course, that it has to do withe nevidia card/drivers.
Are there any solution to this? Does anyone else have the problem? Should i do a total reset with the recovery tool?

i wanted to install win 7 so i created a new partition with the freespace and sucessfully managed to install win7 on the new partition
But now I'm trying to install the drivers from the europe sony site as pointed out in another thread , but sadly. ikeep getting the battery is not compatible error pointed in this thread
I suspect that the drivers i installed are for win7 business and not win7 ultimate
where do u find the win7 ultimate drivers for this sony vaio ?

Nov 18, 2009I bought a used Sony Vaio Laptop today.
I live in the Caribbean so its usually a little more expensive but over all I think it was a fair price.
But I really really love this laptop, the guy even put in a brand new western digital 320 GB HDD in it because this laptop was giving problems before so he decided to replace the HDD.
I am just concerned about the LCD lamp life and I hope this lappie lasts me another 3 years or more. I heard SONY quality in their laptop has depreciated.
Anyways the WEB CAM is not working because it needs drivers and when I use the short cut for screen brightness isn't working. I am not sure if its a fault with the laptop itself though. Because when I use shortcut for speaker mute with the fn key they work. All except the screen brightness.
I keep getting errors every time I try to install the windows vista drivers.
Also how do I recalibrate the battery for this? I think the battery is having issues charging and keeping a steady charge the estimation it gives is very out of alignment so to speak.

Feb 2, 2009I have an FW11M which I formatted when I bought it, put on vista ultimate and after a weekend of fiddling, got all of the devices detected with correct drivers installed.
Anyway, now I would like to update the graphics drivers to the new ATI 9.1 catalysts except that every time I try, I run the setup, it appears as though it is working and then says installation complete...
however, it changes nothing. Device manager still reports the old driver version and the catalyst control centre does not run

Apr 1, 2010Update: NVIDIA released 197.44 drivers for notebooks(with OpenGL 4 support for Fermi GPU), GT300M only gets support up to 3.3
I used the same inf file(changing drivers' version and date, of course) and everything is working as expected.
Just follow the same instructions if you wanna try.

So I managed to install the new NVIDIA drivers for laptops, 197.16 on my VAIO F after modifying the inf file myself for a few hours. I'm no expert, but I guess it worked out fine.

After testing the new drivers for 24hrs:
- No flicker at low brightness
- No uneven brightness after pressing the "Display Off" button
- Fan not constantly running

- No problems after sleep/restart........................

May 4, 2009I've had this laptop for a little less than 4 years. No real problems to report. It runs on Dual core processor and Windows XP SP3. For awhile it used to make a lot of noise and it got hot. The noise issue would come and go, figured it was just the processor.
Now all of the sudden the noise stopped. Got speedfan to see what temp was and my core 1 is about 87C. (i can post more temps later, but currently am at work). Now i don't know if i should worry and purchase a fan? or just get an external cooling fan since i plan on getting new computer in about a year.
Now if the problem is the fan, does it matter what fan i purchase or can it be generic. I guess what i need to know if this is common for sz320p's or if i should worry. Laptop still runs fine, never shuts off for any random reason (except for snood), Loads programs fine, and i never get a blue screen.

Dec 10, 2009I have a Sony Vaio Laptop. Its warranty ended 7th December. Phoned them to get it picked up and now they have it so any work should be covered under warranty.
There is a particle under the screen. I took a picture of it and emailed it to Sony who diagnosed it as dead pixels. They said they would repair it for free under warranty.
Now that they have the laptop they say there is a particle under the screen. They sent me a picture of it and the photo looks identical to what I sent them earlier which they diagnosed dead pixels.
Now they are saying it was accidental damage by me and want to charge to replace the screen (same price as I paid for the laptop).
I think that this is ridiculous and that they should repair it under warranty. They will not accept these two arguments:
1. If I damaged it then I would have had to have opened the screen which there should be evidence of.
2. If the particle got in some other way through a gap then it is a manufacturing flaw because there should be no way of a particle getting in there.
