Sony :: Volume And Multimedia Keys Are Not Working CS Windows 7
Dec 26, 2009
I just could not get multimedia keys and volume keys to work (the ones above the F keys, next to the power button)
I have just upgraded my VGN-CS11S/Q to Windows 7 - 64 Bit. I have updated the FEPD driver via windows update, and installed the utilities in following order:
Sony Shared Library
[reboot]
Vaio Event Service
[reboot]
Setting Utility Series
[reboot]
[reboot]
[reboot]
but no luck. Than, I have reformatted the system (actually, I have restored the image file, but is was a clean installation without any utils / drivers anyway) and installed the utilities in another order as follows:
Vaio Event Service
[reboot]
Sony Shared Library
[reboot]
Setting Utilitiy Series
[reboot]
still no luck. FN keys does work, and little OSD screen comes up as well when I use FN + volume up - volume down keys. But multimedia keys and volume keys (which is the one with lights) insisting on not working.
I have just bought the G500 and I'm getting really annoyed by the keyboard. It has "great" multimedia keys as the main keys instead of usual F1-F12 keys. To access their functionality you must press Fn+appropriate key. The problem has been described here many times. But no solution works for G500.
I have tried: enter BIOS (no such option for keyboard)install Lenovo Slim USB Keyboard application (runs, but the option selected have no effect)install Lenovo Ultraslim Plus Wireless Keyboard & Mouse Driver application (do not run at all - just brings me to the desktop and do nothing). I'm not able to use the computer since I use a lot of application depending on the functional keys and if there is no solution I will have to buy another computer...
i upgraded my hard drive and installed windows 7 this weekend. Everything is working fine except for my fn keys will not work.
I have looked high and low through the forums to try to find a fix. I have been installing Sony drivers for the past 3 hours, rebooting between each installation, and it still isn't working perfectly.
I've gotten to a point where the Volume keys work, and when I push Fn+F5 to lower the brightness, the little brightness meter pops up and the sound is made. But, the brightness won't go any lower than maximum.
The screen is really bright and it's killing my eyes, and draining my battery crazy fast!
I have just bought a new W540 and it's almost impossible to work with common software packages that heavily use F1-F12. Every time I want to use the F1-F12 keys, I have to press also the Fn key. For me this is a problematic change from my previous T510 machine...
Is there a way to swap the default behavior of the multimedia keys with the F1-F12 legacy keys?
HP 15-r014TX...... windows 8.1 single language .... some keys on my laptop such as spacebar , enter, up&down arrow and backspace became non functioning all of a sudden..
I have an Aspire 5733Z laptop. I just recently lost the capability to adjust the volume using the keyboard shortcut of Fn key with up or down arrow keys. I have uninstalled and installed the Realtek HD driver.
This is almost a classic problem. I just installed XP SP3 on a Vaio G11. I did everything according to Sony's plan. But the brightness keys don't work.
Is there a chance that Sony's drivers were written for XP SP2, and that SP3 is the cause of my problems?
Reason I'm thinking this is that SP3 recognized some devices that SP2 doesn't recognize
I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate version x64 on my Sony VPC-CW13.
But the function keys are not working properly. The volume one work but no OSD. Contrast, and monitor selection one since like it is not working at all.
any tips?
I install all the driver available on the esupport.sony.com website, but still no luck
I have a brand new W540 with Windows 8.1 running. Some Fn-Keys are working, for example Fn+F2 for the volume. But I have some keys which are not working: Fn+F5 or Fn+F6 should change the LCD brightness.
Why these keys are not working? All updates are applied (Lenovo and Windows)...
I just recently picked up an Aspire V 17 Nitro and imediately installed Windows 7 on it. Everything is working pretty well so far but I noticed the function keys are not working. The ones where you hold down the "Fn" key and then do thing like adjust the volume.
I have an Aspire 5733Z laptop and I love it dearly. I just recently lost the capability to adjust the volume using the keyboard shortcut of Fn key with up or down arrow keys. I have uninstalled and installed the Realtek HD driver.
I have a HP Pavilion g7-2325sb running Windows 7 64 bit. but the buttons for adjusting screen brightness don't work. The buttons for audio adjustment do work without pusshing the fn button. In bios "action keys mode" is enabled.I think it's some software missing but can't find the software, neither can "HP support assistant".
Ive had this Acer laptop E1-510p with window 8.1 and all of the sudden some of the keys accross the keyboard stop working. These keys are random and even when i plug in a generic keyboard it does the same thing ....
I recently formatted my laptop to windows 7 ultimate and since then can not get my function keys to work. I've reinstalled drivers that I thought might work and nothing.
When I could no longer adjust my brightness is when I noticed that my function keys were not working. Is there any other way to adjust the brightness on my laptop besides the function keys? If so I have not figured it out.
I've installed Windows 7 x64 (build 7077) successfully on my Sony VAIO VGN-FZ31M. Everything seems to work OK except for the Fn-keys. The volume controls however seem to have somekind of effect, just without the visual volume bar appearing.
I've tried looking at some other threads and downloaded some Sony Notebook Utilities -package from the U.S. VAIO support site but was unable to install it on my laptop since the installer wasn't too happy about my VAIO model (after all, this apparently is an European model).....
how to get these working? I know the folks here got it working for the AR but the same install insturctions dont work for FW. I also a post earlier about a guide for installing XP but it did not work.
how to get your FN keys working and for this particular laptop at that Sony Vaio S460. There were descriptions of installing drivers in certain orders, as well as going to a third party site for the contrast portion. Unfortunately, that thread was closed.... but i had a very important question:
I've recently switched from XP to Windows 7 completely bypassing Vista. I had to re-install all the drivers from Sony (i believe i have most of the important things working) however when it came to the FN buttons, those few keys took me longer than the whole process of changing windows. TO my surprise, many of the drivers adapted themselves from XP to WIndows 7. Anyways, after trying everything, i think I finally got MOST of the FN buttons working.. However, when it comes to the volume portion, it only allows me to control up to 1 bar.. So when I click FNF4 - the volume will go up but only to the max of 1 bar?
I believe I've downloaded all the drivers from Sony's web page. I can't get the function keys such as brightness and volume working. Is there an order to installing them or a file I may have missed? I have a Sony Z series Vaio VGN-Z610Y. I'm running Windows 7 enterprise x64.
I did a clean install of Windows 7 and I was surprised that almost everything is working out of the gate. There are only a few bugs that I've noticed.
1.) The Fn functions in the F-keys don't work. Which driver do I need for that?
2.) Same thing goes for the Mode - - - - - Settings keys above that. Which driver fixes that?
3.) In the device manager I have and unknown "Base System Device" with the Location of "PCI bus 7, device 3, function 2". What is this/How do I fix it?
4.) The touchpad doesn't scroll. I tried installing the driver from the Sony eSupport page, but it failed. (I reinstalled and rebooted and it's working)
And not a bug, but just a straight up question... 5.) Should I install Sony Shared Library? Do I need it for anything? I really don't plan on installing any of the programs that came pre-installed with Vista, unless it's necessary.
I think I accidentally turned off the volume bar on my laptop and I'm not sure how to turn it back on. sound does work I have to manually adjust it using the volume icon and all the lights are on. I can't even turn on/off my wireless button.
T9400 2.53GHZ 6mb kesh 4GB RAM 1066 500GB hard disk 5400
i have problem with laptop sound....
if speaker level is 0-60 proc all is fine, but if speaker level is 70-100 proc, then hard disk begin work at max... sound and programs crash... then i put mute or slow down speaker level and hard disk again working calmly, not a max performance...
i not understand why hard disk working at max performance when speaker level more thant 70 proc...
it is really strange.
i tryed to instal another audio driver, not helped...
maybe to strong magnetic field from speeker? if speeker to strong?
Is my volume control working correctly? The touch thing at the left. It changes the volume in blocks of 2, but even 2 blocks is quite loud and very difficult to set it at 2 blocks in the first place. Normally it goes to 4 blocks then 0 volume and takes time to set it at 2. Having to set the volume using the bottom right icon atm.
Is there anyway to get it more accurate and have a better range of volumes in the lower levels?. I did uninstall a lot of the junk programs that came with it but not launch manager
