Sony :: WWAN Globetrotter 3G For Windows 7 RC On Vaio TT
May 6, 2009
Ive just installed Windows 7 RC1 on my lovely Vaio TT VGN-TT11VN/X
Everything looks good, wifi quickly working but one thing i found doesnt work is the 3g smartcard internet access
Ive tried installing all the drivers, it recognises the Globetrotter Smartcard reader installed but then says cant install drivers when trying to install the software
Im running Windows 7 RC1 x64 bit version to take advantage of the 4GB ram
Anyone had any luck getting WWAN running?

im considering buying a Vaio Z from the US.
But since I live in Denmark (europe) and would very much like to use the build-in broadboard, i have my doubts that this will work?
Do the build-in card also support the european WWAN network, can it be unlocked from sprint or can the card be replaced?

I've just taken delivery of a Z51, and I want to use my Vodafone SIM in it.
It looks from other threads that the way to do this is using Globetrotter, but this isn't supplied with my Win7-64 machine...

last month I upgrade the HSDPA board to the Vaio VGN-Z790LDX in order to use any sim card from any international cellphone company and it worked at first attempt .
now I just replaced the IFX-517 and the wwan to the Vaio VGN-TT290NBX and I have installed one IFX-517 having the sim card slot and I placed the unlocked wwan GTM382.
anyone did the same upgrade?
which driver are the best in order to make it working properly?
I am asking this because I did try to install the Option driver /Globe Trotter Connect and the Vaio Smart Network but for many times it was not succefully done .
the first times the minicard was in the device manager list but just till the laptop was on.......and after restart it was not there .
now finally after many times removing the driver and the minicard the system is working but I don't know for how long........
now I am wondering that I did mistake at the beginning because I mixed sony driver and Option drive and software.............in few words I made a Cocktail,

I will soon receive new vaio Z from Japan. As some of you know WWAN modem in Japan is locked to NNT Docomo. Japanese model has sim card slot but it's currently impossible to unlock Gobi 2000 card. In Europe vaio Z comes with same card unlocked.
On ebay you can buy unlocked Gobi 2000 puled from HP,Lenova or Acer. I wonder if those card will work in Sony laptops. Where can I buy unlocked Gobi 2000 that will work with sony laptops?
Also if somebody is interested here is the link with some photos showing how to replace WWAN card in new Z:

I have a UK VGN-Z3. It comes with a built in WWAN card, which allows HSDPA connection over T-mobile. My understanding is that the driver is a Quallcom Gobi.
I've clean installed Windows 7. After much hard work and searching high and low, I think I have everything sorted. FN keys work, sleep is available etc (I do have a sporadic wireless drop-off that I didn't have before but that's all). I've updated all the essential bits as per the extremely helpful guidance on here and elsewhere from BIOS through to smart network etc.
On the VAIO download page specific to the Z3 there are no Windows 7 drivers for WWAN. So, I downloaded the original ones from the "originally installed section. The Quallcom gobi didn't want to install at first but I found a workaround online involving changing a particular file [url]. So that was installed and I then installed the original 3G manager. Fingers crossed and, surprise, surprise, it didn't work. The 3G manager comes up with an error message basically telling me that the WWAN is not detected or words to the effect. I tried going to a more recent Z series (Z51) and downloading the equivalent drivers from there. Still nothing. There is some sort of further advice in the link above that might help me but :-/ I don't understand it...!
I use my 3G connection a lot as I'm often on the road and am totally lost without it...

I have done a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit informed by Firestone and others on this Forum. Everything works well - in fact arguably better in terms of functionality of Stamina/Speed switch - with one exception.
I have not been able to install the WWAN successfully. I have tried a number of times to uninstall and reinstall the drivers from links on this site and also even tried the Sony EU support site Windows 7 drivers with no luck. I have tried asking windows to search for the best driver with no luck. Globetrotter Connect has installed correctly, as far as I can see, but just doesn't pick up the WWAN card.

Have D420 here and was thinking if it's possible to use WWAN slot for any other mini pci-e cards like SSD or video decoder. Now Dell docs state not to mix WLAn and WWAN cards between their assigned slots.

I have a Vaio TZ330E, it does not have any integrated WWAN. However I happen to come across a work provided plan that pays for wireless connect through AT&T 3G's plan. Can install the Integrated 3G WWAN myself? There is a place to put the SIM Card behind the battery... If so where can I purchase this?
Or Should I just get a PC Express Card or an AT&T USB Connect Card?
Anyone know whether a PC Express Card is better than the USB Connect?

I have a TXN29N and am in south africa, my ? is this, the vaio has wwan functionality linked to Sprint Mobile, obviosly I cannot use the sprint mobile service in south africa, can I use the wwan functionality here at all (on our mobile networks)? if so, how? on top of that the TXN29N has no simcard slot so how is wwan supposed to work (how do you connect to the mobile network without a sim)?
If you need to use an external modem (huwaei or such like) with a simcard in (like my previous laptop) then I don't understand why sony included wwan?

I am going to get slayed on here and told I am an idiot but I have been trying all day to get my WWAN working on my VGN-Z31WN (UK) to no avail.
I got my windows 7 upgrade dvd the other day and installed it as recommended by sony i.e upgrade. After the laptop seemed a lot slower, my wireless connection to ages to come online and my WWAN (on a vodafone sim) had stopped working which is my main connection method as I travel a lot.
I was generally unimpressed, so after doing a little research (on here) i decided that a clean install was the way to go. I followed sigma957 instruction to the letter.
Everything was much quicker apart from the goddamn WWAN which still wont work!
I have been scouiring the internet all day trying to find a solution but cannot come up with a solution. Does anyone have the same laptop with windows 7 with a working WWAN connection? If so how have you done it? What software are you using for the connection manager? Which driver have you used for the WWAN? I have even tried ring Sony support but they aren't even open on frickin weekend!

We have a a sony TT290 that has what appears to be the gobi WWAN module in it. On the unit is only talks about Verizon. as an option.
However from what I understand the gobi works with AT&T as well. Looking that the unit there appears to be a place behind the battery for a sim slot, but it is covered by a plastic spacer.
So two questions, is there an actual sim slot behind the spacer and if there is has anyone been able to use it with AT&T?

I tried another software and it wouldnt connect.

I've been searching around but am having a hard time finding the answer to this one. Does anyone have built-in Sprint WWAN working on their Z (mine is a Z540) in Windows 7 64bit?
I can toggle Wireless WAN on and then see 4 Data Interface items listed in Device Manager that need drivers....

I downloaded and installed the GlobeTrotter Connect in order to use 3g/HSPA on my z11wn.
I could make may lap connect to internet via the inserted sim. However, the connection only last for few mins, then drops. The only way to make it works again is turn off wwan, turn on and restart GlobeTrotter Connect, sometimes I need to restart lap aswel.
this is very annoyed, because I can use mobile internet for only few mins, then must shut down and reset the WWAN adapter.

Anyone got the new 64 bit Windows 7 driver (not the Vista driver) for 5530 WWAN card on E6400 working?.
The driver installed fine on my E6400 (running 64 bit Windows 7), but Wireless Manager (downloaded from Sony Ericsson website) stopped working saying it can't find any wireless device (probably because it can't recognize the new driver)..
Then I went to get Control Point Connection Manager and noticed that there's none for Windows 7. So how do you use the WWAN card without a client?..

I'm kinda savvy when it comes to this stuff, but I have hit a wall. I have a Sony VAIO that I would like to run Windows Vista and Windows XP on.
I shrank the main partition on my hard drive and created a new partition of unformatted space to install XP on.
But when I put in the XP CD in and reboot, it says that there are no hard drives on my system

my Vaio SR 290 CTO. I have been using Windows 7 Pro on my SR 290 for a month with no issue except I tried to do vedio chat with my friend today. I found that my Mic does not work(my friend can't hear me at all). I pull up Device manager to test my Mic and I think there is only Webcam driver installed. So the build Mic simply not working. I googled the driver and came up dry.
