View 3 RepliesIs it possible to buy and install the WWAN module in a VPCZ1?
Mine is Core i7/8GB/256GB SSD/FHD.
im considering buying a Vaio Z from the US.
But since I live in Denmark (europe) and would very much like to use the build-in broadboard, i have my doubts that this will work?
Do the build-in card also support the european WWAN network, can it be unlocked from sprint or can the card be replaced?
how to get this working in XP? I can't find any tutorials online. I installed a IFX-498 in my Sony Vaio motherboard, but when I launch GlobeTrotter Connect it comes up with Device not found.
View 8 Replies View RelatedHas anyone been able to get the Sprint WWAN working on a VAIO after downgrading to XP?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIve just installed Windows 7 RC1 on my lovely Vaio TT VGN-TT11VN/X
Everything looks good, wifi quickly working but one thing i found doesnt work is the 3g smartcard internet access
Ive tried installing all the drivers, it recognises the Globetrotter Smartcard reader installed but then says cant install drivers when trying to install the software
Im running Windows 7 RC1 x64 bit version to take advantage of the 4GB ram
Anyone had any luck getting WWAN running?
last month I upgrade the HSDPA board to the Vaio VGN-Z790LDX in order to use any sim card from any international cellphone company and it worked at first attempt .
now I just replaced the IFX-517 and the wwan to the Vaio VGN-TT290NBX and I have installed one IFX-517 having the sim card slot and I placed the unlocked wwan GTM382.
anyone did the same upgrade?
which driver are the best in order to make it working properly?
I am asking this because I did try to install the Option driver /Globe Trotter Connect and the Vaio Smart Network but for many times it was not succefully done .
the first times the minicard was in the device manager list but just till the laptop was on.......and after restart it was not there .
now finally after many times removing the driver and the minicard the system is working but I don't know for how long........
now I am wondering that I did mistake at the beginning because I mixed sony driver and Option drive and software.............in few words I made a Cocktail,
I will soon receive new vaio Z from Japan. As some of you know WWAN modem in Japan is locked to NNT Docomo. Japanese model has sim card slot but it's currently impossible to unlock Gobi 2000 card. In Europe vaio Z comes with same card unlocked.
On ebay you can buy unlocked Gobi 2000 puled from HP,Lenova or Acer. I wonder if those card will work in Sony laptops. Where can I buy unlocked Gobi 2000 that will work with sony laptops?
Also if somebody is interested here is the link with some photos showing how to replace WWAN card in new Z:

Does anyone have Sony Vaio Y?
1. Does New Sony Vaio Y Series support SATA II / SSD?
2. Does it have WWAN Slot / 3G Module?
3. How long the battery can last?
I just got my new Sony Vaio SR. I'm going to burn the recovery discs, and then wipe the entire hard drive clean and get rid of all the partitions and install Windows 2000 and Windows XP. But neither Win2k nor WinXP setup will run for some reason
View 4 Replies View RelatedI tried looking around the forum and couldn't find anything.
I'm having a hard time installing Windows 7 x64 on Vaio TT.
It says "On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."
My problem is that I bought a VAIO laptop (VGN-FW31M) and it came with windows vista. So I formated it and installed Windows XP PRO SP·3.
(I had the common SATA driver problem but I managed to solve it).
The problem comes when I try to install any driver, even the CHIPSET driver.
I get a message saying:
"This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software. Setup will exit"
I got all the drivers from the sony official site.
I already installed win 7 x64 on my laptop, but webcam and special key with Fn still don't work. Someone can provide me these suitable softwares?. I also found them on sony's page but they are only used for win vista.
View 6 Replies View Relatedfamily member install some additional memory in her Sony VAIO laptop, but seem to be having a problem. Its a VGN-C290 model (May 2007) and currently has one 1GB chip installed & has one open slot. It allows a max of 2GB.
Now, I have purchased an additional 1GB chip from Crucial.com, but after installing it in the one open slot, it appears that it is not recognizing it at all. The laptop will turn on, but doesn't get to the XP screen. Not even the Sony VAIO/Phoenix welcome screen either.
I have never had a problem with Crucial memory, but I contacted them directly to maybe help with this problem. They basically told me to make sure it is really seated in there good and apply a lot of pressure. They also had me put the Crucial memory in the slot #1 where the original Sony memory was. Neither worked.
The only other thing they suggested was that it was a BIOS related issue & to somehow update the BIOS. I checked & it currently is running BIOS version #R0080J4. I'm trying to determine if this is the latest version. If not, then how to update it.
How To Re-install My Sony Vaio Laptop I Tried To Restore But Is Not Possible Secondly Is It Possible To Change The Language From Spainish To English
View 3 Replies View RelatedI picked up my new Z112GX last night and today after making sony's recovery discs i wiped and started a clean windows 7 professional install.
After this guide you should have a clean windows install with no "yellow" devices under system.
Windows 7 X64 Professional ISO: http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent..../X15-65805.iso
Then use the key on your machine. It will give activation issues jsut run through the automated phone activation and you will be fine. SEE BOTTOM POST FOR EASIER METHOD

Has anyone installed the newest VAIO Event Service from the following link [url]
I tried it and I got an error message that said "Previous Vaio Event Service is not intalled. Upgrade will be cancelled." I already have previous Vaio Event Service from previous installation.
The software should work with any VAIO Notebooks, not just FW. If anyone could try it I really appreciate it and please mention which VAIO Model you have.
I just need to get this one more thing clear:
I'll buy the VGN-Z540NAB and put in 3 GB of DDR3 ram and a 120 GB Vertex SSD drive.
But - I have been wondering how I am going to do the harddrive part - this is my plan.
1. Make a clean install on the old haddrive as soon as i get the notebook using this guide: Sony Z series 32bit Vista Clean Install Guide (full functions & no windows activation)
2. Make a back-up image of the harddrive using Storagecrafts shadow protect(http://www.storagecraft.com/products...rotectDesktop/)
3. switch to the new SSD harddrive
4. load my back-up image on the clean new SSD harddrive.
5. and i'm ready to go
Just had a hard drive failure on my VGN-BX195ep lapton, I bought a new hard drive, but when installing one of my recovery discs (application disc) is not recognised.
I have a new Vista Home Premium here unsed, so thought I would try that. It installs fine, but I am really struggling to get the Sony Drivers to make it work.
I am without Wireless Lan, Flash drives and also have ? makrs on device manager on Biometric processor (fingerprint I guess) Mass Storage Controller, and two unknow devices which are listed as Intel 82891FBM LPC INt Controllers.
I have spoken to Sony support who claim the original installed drivers should work, but they they have errors on intall due to wrong operating system.
where I can find drivers?
why the Wireless lan does not work as it seems fine in the device manager? But when turned on, apart from the light on the front it is not working?
I have a Vaio VGN-CS16G/R and why is is that after installing Win7 RTM x64 and installing the necessary drivers, I DON'T see the "adjust brightness slider" on the power options? With my other laptops with the same OS, I can see that slider completely.
Also, I when I install Vaio Launcher which I got from the extracted Sony Notebook Utilities installer, it returns an error of:
" Error Number: 0x80040703
Description: Failed to find DLL function: SnyUtils.SuOpen
Setup will now terminate. "
Are there workarounds on this?
I know that we really don't need to have a million threads on the subject, but I haven't seen many SR tutorials. If this stays open, maybe it will help other older SR owners when they upgrade to Windows 7.
What you need before you do your upgrade:
Firmware Extension parser
Sony Shared Library
Sony Notebook Utilities
Optional items:
Webcam software
Synaptics Touchpad drivers
Fingerprint Scanner driver
I installed Win7 Pro as a clean install. I have a 320gb drive that I formatted and partitioned into 3 parts, 40gb for the OS, 5gb for the pagefile and the rest for a storage partition.
I use the storage drive to put all of my user-created files. That make it easier for me to locate an item and makes backing up my personal files alot easier. I think it also reduces fragmentation on your OS drive...........
I just performed a clean install on my vaio Z until I reached where I install the Battery Check Utility...now I keep getting this message!
"The installed battery may not be properly connected to the computer or may not be compatible with the computer.
Click "OK" to enter Hibernate mode and reinsert the battery!
What the hell is that? I have never removed the battery or done anything to it..the laptop was absolutely normal before the clean install!
My laptop top is not usable now...even though it's on ac power I still get this msg
I just bought a new sony vaio laptop. I wanted to install the newest 9.4 ATI drivers for the gpu. So heres what happened:
- Downloaded newest drivers from ati official site
- Went to the uninstall programs section in control panel, closes thing I could find to ati drivers was "Ati catalyst install manager", so i uninstalled it and it uninstalled ati drivers within the process.
- Then restarted the laptop
- Then installed newest drivers with the catalyst control center.
- Restarted laptop
- After the restart the highest available resolution was 1400x1050, I couldn't find the ati control centre and can find no evidence of the laptop even recognizing the ATI GPU after the restart.
I've gone through this sequence twice now and each time the drivers haven't been updated properly and the same thing has happened.
I've restored the system so now I have the 8.4 drivers on my gpu but I really can't figure out how to update them,
Sony vaio
-2.66GHz core 2 duo
-Ati HD 3650 512mb GDDR3
-4GB DDR2RAM
-Vista 64-bit
-320GB HDD
-1920x1080 Full HD display
I have a Japanese VGN-Z90NS, and after getting it back from Japan for a minor repair, decided to put Vista Ultimate x64 on there to take advantage of my entire amount of memory.
Some may have seen this thread:
Sony Z HD install and 64bit upgrade problems
On at least the older Vaio Z series (the Z90, Z5xx in the USA, etc.), I have confirmed that the EFI thing is an issue if you try to install a slipstreamed SP1. I happen to have a genuine Vista Ultimate x64 install disc that is RTM, and it installed just fine with no EFI issues.
To get the 64-bit original Sony drivers, download them here or here.
Once you download all of the Sony drivers, download Universal extractor from here, and run it against all of the EXEs you downloaded to strip the model check.
To get the Intel 4500 graphics driver, download it here
NOTE: My Z does not have the built-in camera or fingerprint security, so you'll have to figure that out on your own. Somehow my notebook no longer has bluetooth after being fixed (looking into that ...), so that isn't in this list either. I do have one device that I can't find a driver for, and I bet it's bluetooth since everything else is fine. I'll update if I sort it all out.
Install Process that works:
1. Vista x64
2. Vista x64 service pack (if needed)
3. Intel chipset driver - reboot required
4. Intel Matrix Storage Manager (I have the RAIDed SSDs and definitely need this) - reboot required.......................
I tried to do a clean install from windows 7 starter to Windows 7 home premium on my new Sony vaio Vpc-w21z1/l
Everything looks good, i installed all drivers and the software needed to works ok, but the Sony smart network does not work. it wont start at startup, so i go to the c:programs and start from there, it appears the window but i don't have the options to turn on and off the wwan, wireless or bluetooth.
The problem is that even the wireless and bluetooth is installed it can't find networks, and the wwan after i reboot 2 times the computer it disapears. i installed the updated version of smart network 3days old and even that does not work.
DISCLAMER:The Windows 7 Beta is a pre-release version of Windows. While this a stable and high-quality beta,
it's not the finished product. It could crash your computer or cause you to lose important files or information.
BEFORE doing this procedure, backup all your data...
I have been trying to make a clean install of Windows 7 but when I get to the install screen,
it says that "it does not recognize my drive." This happened too when I tried to install windows XP,
and I solved it by slipstreaming the SATA controller drivers but, I don't know where to find those for windows 7, or if that even will solve the same problem
I share with You the steps I've made to install a fresh Win 7 on A Vaio VPCF11Z1E (EU model)
1 Before anything else be sure to make Your recovery disks If You haven't already done them. It's very important to actually do them since we'll need them later. You will use them for a future installation of the bundled utilities You may require.....
if there was a way to do a clean install of Vista (preferably Ultimate 64-bit) on the Vaio Z and have functioning s1/s2 and speed/stamina and Wlan controls. I found the guide for 7, I was wondering if there was something like it for vista, or at least a place where i can get the drivers. My viao Z came with alot of "bloatware", and i'd like to have it snappy.

I have searched the forums and have only found guides for performing an upgrade install to 32bit and a clean install to 64bit.
