View 5 RepliesWhich parts of the M1530 can be upgraded or exchanged for similar parts? For example could I switch out a 2.5" 128GB SSD with any 2.5" HDD, or would it be possible to upgrade from a centrino duo santa rosa core 2 duo processor to the new centrino 2 monteniva core 2 duo processor? (since it voids your warranty would it be possible to switch the processors back if needed?)
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo with best buy selling the low end model for $1699.99 I'm curious if there is a resource for purchasing z series parts like the 1920 x 1080 screen from the international versions (or the $4500 US version). Even if it's a $400 service part it's still worth it.
I'd have no problem replacing the screen and likely able to see the 1600x900 on ebay for some cash. I just haven't seen a place for Sony parts
I'm considering buying a new Vaio Z series, and I'm trying to keep the initial price to a minimum whilst maximising what I need Sony to do at the factory.
So, what components are upgradeable?
Obvious ones:
- RAM
- HDD/SSD
- CPU
- GPU
- WWAN - can I add this at a later date should I find I need it?
From my research on here, I (think I) understand that the SSD isn't upgradeable due to a proprietary connector - what about buying a Z with a standard SATA drive? Does this use a standard SATA connector (and enable purchasing SSD drives aftermarket)?
I have a z500 laptop. In the parts lookup when I enter my S/n it says :Error : Could not retrieve parts information for ...
But in the [URL] ..... I have no problem and it recognizes my S/n .....
My Sony Vaio Z's power plug portion is very flimsy and feels and loose (I am referring to the place where you plug your power cord into the computer left of the stamina-speed switch). The entire silver plastic part wobbles significantly.
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo the thread name tells all. Basically, I'm pretty keen on modding my current / older 2nd gen Z with a few parts that the best older gen Zs come with elsewhere around the world.
Modifications planned:
- CPU upgrade
- SSD upgrade
- Glossy Premium Carbon LCD Lid, BLACK with BRUSHED PATTERN (just the top part, not the entire bezel)
- Wireless card upgrade
- RAM upgrade
- Optical drive upgrade
- Adding a 3G card slot .....
I`m from switzerland, and we coulnt not order custom configs with Sonystyle / CTO - only the normal Sony Vaio configs are to order
When i will find a way to order a swiss-german language keyboard (not same than the german keyboard), then i could order my Notebook from anywhere, and do the work by myself, but have to fight with warranty trouble.
I can live with warranty trouble
Does someone have me an adress for ordering keyboards in other languages?
Does anyone know how to apply thermal paste to the Sony TZ series? I've opened it up and not really sure where the CPU/heatsink is. Looks complicated to further disassemble the thing

View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently got a Sony Vaio Sr-210J/H through some private deal...but when I got it I noticed that I got scammed and the laptop didn't have a Hard Drive . So, I buy a 250 Gb Hard Drive, I open the hard drive slot, and i notice that I don't have anywhere to connect the hard drive to. I finally found this thread: Guide to : Upgrading Sony SR HDD & Ram which helped a lot and confirmed that i wasn't crazy. I'm missing the metal part and whatever connects the HDD to the motherboard. Does anyone have any idea where I could get the parts, or what to do?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was going to be assembling an m1710 this weekend....
I called Dell Spare Parts a few days ago, and placed an order for the following;
HG345 Refurb bottom plastics, m1710
FF084 Refurb palmrest assy, m1710
J8841 Refurb speakers, LED, m1710
CF426 Refurb hinge cover, m1710
I've been watching the order on Dell's site all week, as it was scheduled to ship (on or before today) (2/21/08), and I opted for Next Day shipping.
When I placed the order, the woman I spoke with asked for my Service Tag number. I, um... don't HAVE one... I didn't say this, I simply said I don't have that information at the moment. She asked how I got the part numbers, and I told her from their own Spare Parts page.
Well....the order got cancelled today. Saw it online while at work, just before I left for the day. Another order number with the identical items was created, with a scheduled ship date of 3/3/08. WHAT?
The woman just called....she states they cannot process my order without a service tag number. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!
I told her I don't have a tag number....she asked if I was building one. "Yes." To which I hear...
"Oh....well, I don't think our supplier will allow that without a service tag number, because we reserve those parts for people who bought m1710's."
I said "That's amazing...because I know a number of people who have done the same thing I'm trying to do, and had no problems getting these parts."
"Well, that's because they have m1710's"
*mad enought to scream at this point* "Um, no...where do you think I got the idea from?? I'm certainly not the first person to have this idea."
how I can get them to sell me some refurbished plastics? What's the secret password?
How many hard drives can be placed in it at one time?DDR2 or DDR3 RAM?CPU upgrades possible (quad in the future?)
I'm looking into a college notebook that has great specs. I know it seems a little on the big side, but I think I can manage. Usually college students don't take laptops to class all the time, right?
I want to save money now and get this notebook with the regular DVD RW drive. Maybe later I want to upgrade to Blu Ray. However, is this even possible? If so, does it void my warranty?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been looking in this forum for the answer but I've yet to find it. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to get the BIOS to use the entire 4GB of ram that is installed when putting 2 x 2gb RAM? Is there a BIOS hack that will work? I currently have BIOS ver. A09.

If someone can tell me if it is and what Graphic cards and RAM are compatible with it that would be great. Also if it is upgradeable I was going to have the Geek Squad Upgrade it, if they can.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just bought a brand new Sony Vaio VPCF11M1E and I have the following problem:
Because in normal stand the screen is very small, I enlarged it to x150%. Everything becomes bigger, but the following parts are blurry and absolutely not sharp:
-Pop ups, of programs and of windows itself (like advanced settings of something and then a new windows pops up, that one is then totally blurry; you can read it, but it is not the good resolution)
-Google chrome (and with that, all the internet pages)
-The google chrome on the desktop is also very blurry, while all the others, are still sharp (after the enlargement by 150%)
I have tried everything (32 bits colours is on, cleartype is on). I also did a system restore to the first days I bought the laptop and then it was on 100% so the resolution was excellent, but then I put it on 150% and again, the parts I mentioned above, were blurry.
I have Dell E6400 with nVidia NVS160M.
This is how E6400 base looks like:

Wondering if the the CPU and / or GPU on the Precision M4400 / M6600 are user upgradeable? Both in terms of is it physically possible and how does it affect warranty. If it voids the warranty, how likely is it that they can tell that it was upgraded if you swap the oringinal components back in before sending it in.

id for both parts.
I just purchased a refurb XPS 1640. Its got pretty good specs for the price. P8700, 4670, 16" RGB 1080p., 4GB, 320 HD. The things it seems to be lacking are:
1. Backlit keyboard??? I assumed these were standard. Am I wrong?
2. Bluetooth
3. Slot loading DVD. It appears to be a tray system???
I love all the other specs on this system and I'm super excited about the screen. I plan on getting an aftermarket bluray drive. So, my question is can I upgrade all of these things on my own? Is the keyboard swappable with a backlit one? Can I add the internal bluetooth card? and can I replace the non-slot loading DVD drive with a slot-loading bluray drive??? Parts seem to be readily available on ebay.
i just received my XPS 1530 and opened the box. The Creative earbuds, the XPS laptop Sleeve, and the XPS faux leather CD case are all missing.
Do these items still come with the laptop? i dont see them listed on my invoice. Should i contact Dell?
