Apr 20, 2010I recently purchased a refurbished TT Series laptop from SonyStyle. It didn't come with much in way of documentation - I'm still trying to sort out what they gave me.
Is there a write-up anywhere about the TT series computers? For example, something that tells how to adjust the screen brightness? Most new devices come with a booklet that identifies everything on the device, and tells how to use it. I find I still have questions about my TT, and while they may be rather ignorant (I don't know much about the TT), I'm still trying to figure out an answer....
HP/Compaq :: Presario V6065eafreezing, Even After Re-instal
Mar 20, 2009I have a client who dropped their laptop and has a damaged screen. the graphics card and backlight seem OK because when its plugged into and external monitor the video output is perfect. the laptop was working perfectly for about a year after they dropped it, but then it suddenly started to lock up with no response from the keyboard or mouse. - meaning they have to power the device off before they can use it again. - it would then work ok and then randomly lock up again. There is no real pattern to it.
I have ran hardware diagnostics on the mobo, memory and hardrive with nothing showing as faulty.
I thought it may have been a software issue so I re-installed the OS. but the symptoms are exactly the same.
I recently ran Hard Drive Regenerator on the drive and it detected the hard drive no problem. - with no defects found on the drive.
I then tried to use Spinrite on the Hardrive, but Spinrite cannot detect any harddrives.
Does this mean a harddrive failure or a mobo hardrive controller problem?

May 4, 2009Have a brand new MacBook O/S 10.5.6 (Leopard) Intel Core duo. Also have MacBook Pro also Intel core duo but running on O/S 10.4.11(Tiger). Want to run both on Leopard rather than have 2 different O/S's. Tried install Leopard Disks (which came with new MacBook) onto MacBook Pro, but all i get is Message " Mac OSX cannot be installed on this computer." Can anyone enlighten why i can't instal leopard on my MacBook Pro with the instal disks from my Intel MacBook?

May 15, 2010I have Vaio VGN-SZ1M (bought in 2006) that I need to take apart. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to pop out the keyboard. I have removed the "relevant" four screws from the bottom, then figured that the part between keyboard and display doesn't seem to be removable (as it is with my even older, super slow Toshiba Satellite I am relying on right now), and now I am stuck. Does anybody know where to find a disassembly guide? - Preferably a step-by-step guide as I am not only a blonde but also not exactly super computer-savvy (as this thread clearly demonstrates). Or does anybody know how to take this notebook apart?
For some reason the VGN-SZ1M (or VGN-SZ1M/B) has two different model names printed on it, the other one being "PCG-6J2M", but according to the Sony website the "PCG-6..." model number is used "for different purposes" - no idea what that means - and the "real" model number is VGN-SZ1M).
I have spent the past two hours trying to find a disassembly guide online (or just a quick "how to pop out/remove the keyboard" explanation, but haven't been successful. I have also tried to get in touch with Sony's customer service in the U.S., however, they cannot (or won't) help me because the laptop was bought in Germany (where I was living at that time), so the U.S. customer support doesn't feel responsible (or so), and the customer support in German doesn't apply because I am now located in the United States. Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place. Don't take this as a rant, please, it's not meant as venting. Just trying to explain my level of "stuck-ness".

Oct 24, 2009clean Windows 7 (64) installation. My guide is more of a 'bare bones' installation as I only installed what is needed for functionality of the big features. The guide is incomplete. I will continue to update the document as I make more progress. Please feel free to report anything you find that is incorrect etc.
keep in mind this is for a FZ280 E/B, I have no idea if it will work on other FZ models.
I am still having problems with the Bluetooth driver/software and the Wireless Switch Utility (what exactly is this needed for?). I believe the functionality for Bluetooth is dependent on the something to do with the Wireless Switch Utility. However I haven't had any luck installing either option.
There appears to be a problem with the power management. I unplugged the notebook for the first time and the battery went from 95% to 60% within 5 - 10 minutes. Any thoughts will be appreciated. I will be researching for a solution as well.

Lenovo X220 X Series ThinkPad :: Microphone Quite After Fresh Windows 8 Install?
Mar 30, 2013I just did a system restore of windows 8 (clean wipe) and went through the process of reinstalling all the drivers. Â I installed the latest version SmartAudio (8.32.43.0). Â In Google hang out it said the microphone wasn't working, then I clicked on the settings and made the internal mic the default, I got good mic for 1 second. Â Did it again and the same thing. Â But this is only for a single second. Â In skype I tried the same thing and it is just super quite, it doesn't register on the scale unless I blow directly into the mic (so I know it's picking something up). Â Last week I had my upgraded from win 7 Windows 8 install working just fine with the microphone (zero problems ever before with this thing). Â I checked in mic properties and DB and volume are set to max. So what is it about the fresh install that is making the mic all cracked out? (I checked the SmartAudio settings too) I'm having issues with my Bluetooth mouse too(disconnects at restart and have to reinstall) and Power Manager (it doesn't show up as a toolbar anymore). Â P.S.. I've gone to the X220 site and downloaded the latest drivers and installed system update.

The following steps below include various driver sources and install instructions.
1. Install your edition of Windows 7. I chose to change the UAC setting to never notify. If you leave it in the default setting, various prompts may open when installing the drivers and utilities. Open "Computer", click the "Organize" tab, navigate to "folder and search options", click "View" tab, and uncheck "Hide empty drives in the computer folder".
There will be two exclamation marks for the "Mass storage controller" and "Unknown device" in the device manager. Intel 4965 Wifi, Marvell network controller, and Conexant modem drivers are included in Windows 7. You can update them if necessary

Jul 21, 2009From browsing the forums, i see that everyone is having trouble updating their drivers. Mobility modder currently does not support the ATI 4 series but there is still a way to install the drivers for us fortunuately . By doing this, you are able to install the display driver v9.6 but no CCC unforunately; however you can still retain the CCC v9.2 from Sony's official drivers.
1> Download the appropriate version OS of the 9.6 driver from [url]
2> Double click the file you just download and click install. It will unzip a folder to C:ATI (default). These are driver files. When the actual installation wizard comes up, cancel it.
3> Browse to C:ATI9-6_beta_win7_64_dd_CC (Driver name, e.g.)PackagesDriversDisplayW7_INF (For 32-bit) OR W76A_INF (for 64-bit)
**Btw, I am doing this example based on the Window 7 Install. (Other versions of the OS should be the same except the INF file name may be different)**
4> I am under 64-bit so I will use W76A_INF as an example for this guide. Double click on the INF file (for W7, it is named C7_81757)
5> Scroll down the file until you see a list like;
"ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT" = ati2mtag_RV610, PCIVEN_1002&DEV_94C1&SUBSYS_0D021002
"ATI Radeon HD 2900 PRO" = ati2mtag_R600, PCIVEN_1002&DEV_9400&SUBSYS_30001002
"ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT" = ati2mtag_R600, PCIVEN_1002&DEV_9400&SUBSYS_25521002
6> Add this anywhere between the entries you see above (does not have to be exact, just place this entry somewhere along the lines of the WHOLE list)
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570" = ati2mtag_M9x, PCIVEN_1002&DEV_9553&SUBSYS_9033104D
Congratulations, the display driver can now be installed ONLY VIA the HAVE DISK method.
7> Quick review on HAVE DISK method; Device Manager > Right Click ATI 4570 then Update Driver Software > Browse my computer > Let me pick a list of Device drivers... > Have Disk > (Now browse to the INF file you just edited, in this example; the C7_81757 inf file.) Install, voila, DONE.
8> Now, to get the CCC v9.2 (Can't get 9.6 yet), get Sony's ATI drivers, run it and click on CUSTOM install, NOT EXPRESS, install CCC only and anything that is mandatory (DO NOT INSTALL THEIR DISPLAY DRIVERS!!!) .Voila, CCC 9.2 function (which is the same as 9.6 essentially).
I believe this method works for NW series w/ ATI 4570 too.

Nov 14, 2009I have just received my upgrade for my VGN-Z21WN/B (my baby, love it!)... anyway, I did a bit of research before receiving it and everywhere I read suggested to do a fresh install - so thats' what I did. It actually all went okay, and it's happily running.
I visited vaio-link.com where I found some Win7 drivers, including:
- Bluetooth driver
- Realtek HD audio
- BIOS update for Win7
- Ethernet Driver
- Fingerprint suite
- Wireless LAN (Intel ProSet)
- WWAN
- nVidia graphics driver
All great , except now I am missing my FN keys. The FN keys for brightness, volume, switching display etc no longer work, and I cannot find a solution. One site I researched says to download the vista driver, but I cannot find that anywhere .. and then even people said that didn't work.
Secondly, although not a biggie, is there a VAIO Update driver?

Oct 31, 2009Just a quick guide on how to make a bootable DVD using your Sony Upgrade Discs so you can do a clean install.
1) Insert your upgrade DVD into your DVD Drive and load up "Windows Explorer"
2) Browse to your DVD rom drive and expand it, there should be a bunch of directories, and you should have 2 that are called "Win7OS32" and "Win7OS64".....

Feb 4, 2010I have a fresh copy of win 7 ultimate (legit of course.. got it from a microsoft event).
I have seen a few threads about clean installing vaios (boy do they put a bit of crapware there...) but not sure whats best to do..
I dont think I need/want any of the free apps (are there any good ones?) so I reckon I am going to blast the harddrive (I imaged the whole lot with another backup prog)
Whats the best strategy for this? i.e. whats best for getting drivers etc?
I noticed some files in c:windowsdrivers (an exe and a inf diretory, not sure which is for which) should that contain all I need?
Will I have issues with sony system stuff?
Also what about registering it? I guess there will be no issue as far as warranty is concerned (as said, it is a proper legit win 7)

Dec 1, 2012My Y580 should be arriving shortly. I got it on the Black Friday Special and it comes with Windows 8. I bought a SSD to replace the HDD and I am wanting to downgrade it to a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate or Pro and I have a couple questions:

How to do this for the Y580? I have not been able to locate one.

Also I am assuming I would not want to use the Windows 8 device drivers correct? Do I use the Windows 7 device drivers?

Would use the drivers from the Lenovo site or each devices specific website? I am going to try to save them on a DVD in advance and want to be prepared.
Sony :: Boot Times For I5/i7 Z: Factory Settings, $50 Fresh Start, Clean Install, Manual Uninstall
Mar 20, 2010Now that the new Sony Z is out, I think it would meaningful to get a sense of the boot time for this system under various scenarios.
If people could post the boot times of their Z with this information:
- Whether you're calculating the boot with all the bloatware untouched (factory settings), with the $50 Sony Fresh Start (which still has a couple unnecessary programs), a Clean Install, or a Manual Uninstall of all programs.
- And the size of your SSD or HDD. If it is an SSD, it would be nice to know if you can tell us have many SSDs are in the RAID 0 configuration as that affects the speed.
I think this would be very helpful not just for direct comparison, but as another factor to consider in whether to do a clean install, which takes more tech-savvy than some may have.
