Lenovo X220 X Series ThinkPad :: Microphone Quite After Fresh Windows 8 Install?
Mar 30, 2013I just did a system restore of windows 8 (clean wipe) and went through the process of reinstalling all the drivers. I installed the latest version SmartAudio (8.32.43.0). In Google hang out it said the microphone wasn't working, then I clicked on the settings and made the internal mic the default, I got good mic for 1 second. Did it again and the same thing. But this is only for a single second. In skype I tried the same thing and it is just super quite, it doesn't register on the scale unless I blow directly into the mic (so I know it's picking something up). Last week I had my upgraded from win 7 Windows 8 install working just fine with the microphone (zero problems ever before with this thing). I checked in mic properties and DB and volume are set to max. So what is it about the fresh install that is making the mic all cracked out? (I checked the SmartAudio settings too) I'm having issues with my Bluetooth mouse too(disconnects at restart and have to reinstall) and Power Manager (it doesn't show up as a toolbar anymore). P.S.. I've gone to the X220 site and downloaded the latest drivers and installed system update.

Dec 1, 2012My Y580 should be arriving shortly. I got it on the Black Friday Special and it comes with Windows 8. I bought a SSD to replace the HDD and I am wanting to downgrade it to a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate or Pro and I have a couple questions:
How to do this for the Y580? I have not been able to locate one.
Also I am assuming I would not want to use the Windows 8 device drivers correct? Do I use the Windows 7 device drivers?
Would use the drivers from the Lenovo site or each devices specific website? I am going to try to save them on a DVD in advance and want to be prepared.

Lenovo P/Y/Z Series :: WiFi Disconnects Just After Waking Up - Reconnects After 4-5 Minutes
Dec 30, 2012I purchased the Lenovo Z580 laptop last month. It is a very good laptop, very silent and well built. Coupled with Windows 8 (64 bit), its a very new experience all together, especially the uptime after restart, connectivity etc. Superfast!
I've been traveling around the world offlate and after I was back home recently, uunfortunately, I'm facing a wired problem with the Wifi since then.
Nature of the problem: After restart, sleep, turn PC on:
1/ Wifi shows full signal status at the start screen.
2/ I enter password to login and it takes to W8 start screen. I then goto the desktop mode.
3/ When I launch a browser I can't connect to internet but the wifi status says 'Internet access'. But after few seconds, I see grey wireless symbol (without any signal bar) with a star on the left corner of the wifi symbol (Not connected mode).
4/ The network I connect to is no longer visible. Only 2 networks are detected. One is an open network and the other one is a different network. Usually several networks are within the range when I'm connected to my network.
5/ After 4-5 minutes, everything becomes normal i.e. the wifi adapter connects to the network.
I've tried router/modem power cycle, disable/enable wireless network adapter and they haven't solved the problem yet. Also noticed something in the Wi-Fi Status (wireless adapter settings window) accessed via Control Panel. Speed initially was 39.0Mbps and eventually changes to 72.0Mbps, drops to 65.0Mbps...
I don't have this problem with the other laptop and tablet I own.

Lenovo B / G Series :: G560 - Network Disconnected After Waking Up From Hibernation
Dec 20, 2010For the last two days or so, my Lenovo G560 laptop (running Windows 7, 64-bit, BIOS 2.10) has had problems with its (wired) network adapter after waking up from hibernation. It is shown as disconnected (same as if the cable was physically detached). The only major change I performed in the last few days was installing Service Pack 1. However, the problem only appeared about two days afterwards, so I'm not sure if this is related at all.
In such cases, IPCONFIG reports the following for the NIC:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
If I try IPCONFIG /RENEW, I get
Windows IP Configuration No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has its media disconnected.
Hovering over the tray icon says "Not connected". Troubleshooting of course doesn't find anything. Also, there are no weird entries in Event Viewer (unless they're hidden somewhere in other views). Basically the behavior is identical to when the network cable is physically disconnected (unplugged).
Also, unplugging the network cable, waiting a few minutes, and plugging it back again doesn't do anything.
For now I have two workarounds:
-rebooting the system
-right-clicking Local Area Connection (under Network Connections), selecting DISABLE from the menu, waiting for a few moments, and then choosing the ENABLE from the context menu.
Lenovo 11e E/Edge 14 :: WiFi Drivers On A Fresh Win7 Install?
Aug 29, 2012I've recently formatted my hard drive and put my own copy of Win7 on my Thinkpad Edge 14 (0579-A62). There's no more recovery partition. After being surprised that Win7 didn't have any built in drivers for the display or WiFi, I plugged an ethernet cable in and went to the Lenovo support site. I tried all of the Networking: WLAN drivers but none of them let wireless work. I installed the Intel PROSet software and it just says "Driver is not installed" so I'm assuming it doesn't have anything to do with the WiFi key on the keyboard.

Jan 24, 2011I have an X120e running Windows 8.1 Pro x64.I just upgraded the unit to 4GB of ram (2x2) from 2GB (1x2). Whenever the upper DIMM slot is used, the system will not leave standby mode, and all power, including the battery has to be removed from the system for it to operate normally again.
Of interest, all of the ram tested good with Memtest86+ if it matters the system has the e350 CPU, and a 320GB HDD.
Lenovo X240 Series ThinkPad :: Fingerprint Reader Does Not Work After Standby Or Lockscreen
Oct 29, 2009I have a new X240, and the fingerprint logon no longer works after the computer resumes from standby or from a lockscreen (screen saver). I have checked other solutions here and in other sites, namely:
1. unchecking the power option of the fp reader in device manager,
2. and switching the 30-day standby in Lenovo Settings
Neither of those solutions have worked. I have the latest BIOS and FP driver versions. I made sure the the FP was enabled in BIOS, and I even switched the settings to allow internal FP reader only. Still, the FP will only work when I first power on the laptop, but not after resuming from stand-by. I have checked in Device Manager after manually entering the password, and it says that the FP is working properly.
HP Pavilion G4 Display :: Not Able To Install Switchable Graphics After Fresh Windows 7 Install
Apr 13, 2014I replaced hard drive with SSD and installed windows 7 ultimate (X64) on my HP Pavilion G4 notebook. However, I am not able to install switchable graphics on my laptop now.
I have tried this
1. Installed HPSA and ran update and tuneup. It asked me to update "AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver" but it failed with multiple retries and after some time now it doesnt ask to do this update at all. Now everything is green in HPSA but I am still not able to switch the graphics
2. Tried to download from HP drivers page but it says "AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible harware/software on your computer"
3. Tried uninstalling the driver but windows updates the drivers automatically.
4. I also updated BIOS as suggested at [URL] ..... but still no luck......

Lenovo P/Y/Z Series :: Y510P Discharging By 1% Every Day
Oct 26, 2013My lenovo Y510P used to always be at 100% but I have realized it has been decreasing by 1 every day. I have it on Maximum Battery Life with the Energy Management application.
It is currently at 85% and I would have posted this sooner if I had payed attention. I changed it to Optimized Battery Health and it is now dropping, currently at 75%.
I always leave the laptop plugged in because I usually play games on it such as battlefield, dayZ, counter strike, etc.
Lenovo P/Y/Z Series :: Y510p BF3 Sudden Low FPS
Jan 4, 2014I've been playing Battlefield 3 for some time on Auto settings (most of them are Ultra) and my FPS were always in the range 65-85. Yesterday morning everything was fine, however at night when I opened the game again I had 10-15 FPS. I haven't changed anything in my laptop settings so I don't know why this is happening.
P.S: I only have 1 GPU (not the SLI version) so I know it's not a loss of power. But my battery settings are set to "Optimized battery health". Does it affect performance ?

Feb 10, 2015I've got Y510p with USB 2.0 not working. By the time it malfunctioned it was under warranty and I sent it in the service center. They have claimed that it has been repaired (USB board has been changed) but it is still not working and my warranty ended like 3 days after I sent it back. Jan 3, 2015When I recieved my Y510p about 8 months ago, the usb ports worked perfectly fine. Around October they stopped working properly. The only solution which I found to work was doing a system restore. When I did this, an Unrecognized Device in the Device Manager was no longer unrecognized, and was instead replaced by USB xHCL (or something along those lines). However, as soon as i restared my computer again, the ports broke, and the unrecognized device reappeared. Repeating the restore followed by a restart breaks the ports every time.

Jan 10, 2014I have a new y510p I just received this week. First thing I did was replace the 1TB HD with my own OCZ Vertex 4 256GB SSD Drive.When I power on the laptop for the first time, it does not find a bootable device (goes through network devices, then says no bootable devices). If I use ctrl-alt-delete to reboot the laptop, it then finds the drive on its own and starts booting into Windows.
I'd like to understand why this does not work on the first boot? I went into the BIOS and saw it says there that no drives are detected.This worries me slightly, as perhaps one day it will decide to no longer recognize the drive after the ctrl-alt-delete?

When I open up the task manager its says my memory is at 70%-100% WHILE IDLE but the programs are only using like 25%-40% memory so something is hidden. Just looking for a fix or allocating more memory to Windows. I have an 8Gb system.

When i am watching a movie/youtube clip/playing a game on my logitech pad i got a problem with performance.
After 3 or 4 minutes my movie/game starts to freeze like some kind of energy saver turnes on.
I put my laptop into highest performance via lenovo energy management.
I also checked the settings in windows energy management tool and everything seems to be fine.
I did not have such a problem with my G550 lenovo which i bought 5 years ago.
Currently i have only 128GB SSD inside my laptop and from time to time i'm connecting external drive.
Operating system: Windows 8.1 x64
