Sony :: New Z Series Screen (1600x900)
Mar 15, 2010Does anyone know if the new Z's screen (i.e., the one with 1600x900 resolution) is alleged to be superior to the prior model's 1600x900 screen?

If I set the (1600x900) screen black on my 2 days old Z (this can be done with the "blank" screen saver under Vista) the upper and bottom parts of the screen are brighter than the central part. I knew that *some* leakage was unavoidable with TFT panels but I don't about LED panels so I can't realize if it is normal or a defect.
I've only tested this on a vaio in a sonystyle store and it seems to be totally black but I can't be sure because there was a lot of ambient light in there.
If so are there any settings I need to change or does it do it automatically? I want to use my laptop as a blu-ray player on my HDTV.

Unfortunately, I do not have any side by side comparison photos between the 2 of them. Furthermore, I do apologize for my very poor camera & photography skills.
One thing to take note of is that for both Vaio Z, all the setting are in their "default" values (Default screen resolution, 96 DPI, etc.)

I had the chance to review two configurations side by side in Saturn Vienna.
I assure you, the one with the 1600x900 is noticeably brighter and more saturated than the 1920x1080 one. Both are TN panels, but the colors in FHD panel have a tendency to distort sooner relative to the viewing angles. I can't say that the FHD isn't crisper than the other one because resolution does have its obvious advantage in terms of crispiness. But an uneducated eye won't be able to distinguish crispness difference between the panels when the fonts are scaled to be equal on both screens. Although both panels are LED back-lit, the FHD one looks like a fluorescent back-lit panel when compared to the 1600x900 one side-by-side.
I was both disappointed and relieved to have seen the difference. I was about to order the FHD panel, however because of some problems with the supplier, it kept on delaying. I guess there is always good in bad. Now I canceled my order entirely. I will opt for 1600x900, no matter how much I crave for the highest resolution.
In summary, the US guys who were muttering about the lack of FHD option in Sonystyle.com, don't have to anymore I would go for the 1600x900 panel every time. But this doesn't mean that the FHD is a bad panel. It just isn't AS good as the 1600x900. I wouldn't regret to have chosen it. But now that I have the choice not to, I won't. So long for the Sony Euroasia envy
I'm trying to figure out how good the 1600x900 screen is. I can't find a review on any but the 1080p RGBLED. I really don't want such a high resolution on a screen of this size though-- heck, my current 1680x1050 15.4 is too high res IMO.
So does anyone own a 1600x900? How does it compare to other WLED screens like Apples'?
I would like to buy a vaio, but i can't find the right. I'm lookink for 14"-16" display with resolution over 1600x900,
ssd drive and new intel ( i3-i5-i7). Would be somethink available on these specs? I' m looking for that specs overs 6 months and hoped that somethink would announced on ces
I know Z590 has this screen, but are there any other older (cheaper) models that do? Where does sony get this screen? Are there other companies that also offer this small, high resolution screen?
View 6 Replies View RelatedHow do you handle 1600x900 resolution on a 13.1" screen?
I haven't seen it yet in person, but it seems like it would make everything VERY small (text, images, menus, etc).
Do you change the DPI? Do you modify any other settings? Do you get a stronger contact lens prescription?
I have Z11 with 1600x900 screen and I'm getting sick and tired from it
For starters, gamma was too low, I had to calibrate it using standard Display Calibrator in windows (not that i pretend i have a perfect color perception though) to get more details on shady pictures.
After that it was almost perfect, but color saturation was too high. It can be easily tuned using intel vcard control panel, but I've noticed slight flickering in gray color areas (only when using intel vcard), so I decided to switch to Nvidia card for text editing. But I can't reduce color intensity using Nvidia control panel! Digital vibrance is set to zero by default and can not be negative (at least in current drivers).
It there any way to overcome this problem? Am I the only one noticing? Every time I fire up my text editor, syntax highlighting is more like "Fear and loathing in Las Vegas", even page links on this forum are too purple.
It's not caused by increased gamma, I noticed it long before.
I'm still trying to find a Sony Z in stores (BestBuy has one and its not even powered)... but I was wondering how the resolution is for the Sony Z with 1600x900 resolution? Does anyone have both a Sony Z and a EEEPC 9"? How do the resolutions compared? Is it bigger or smaller than a 9" Netbook with 1024x600?
View 7 Replies View Relatedi was looking over at the VPC-Z12 leak page from Australia it shows that only the 1920x1080p screen has the 96% Adobe RGB coverage. Is this just australia or is the 1600x900 screen offered by Sony everywhere else (US & UK specifically) 96% Adobe RGB as well?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking at buying the CW2, but I can't decide on which screen size to go for. The options are 1366x768 or 1600x900.
My main use is for general internet and Photoshop. I will occasionally watch dvd's and online hd content but this wont be too often.
I've seen 15.6" with 1366x768 displays and they look ok to me. So I assume the 14" with 1366x768 would look the same but maybe a tad sharpen due to the smaller size?
My primary concerna about the 1600x900 is whether it would make text uncomfortably small to read on websites etc. Also when I'm using my graphics tablet in photoshop, some of the options are fiddly to select on my current laptop (13.3" 1280x800) and a 14" 1600x900 would make them even smaller?
I'd love input from you guys with a 14" 1600x900, and equally a 14" 1366x768. Especially those who do image editing on it!
Sony no longer call the cheaper lower resolution screen as ECO screen. Instead, they simply call it "16.4" VAIO Display (1600x900)".
Does it mean that the lower resolution model has the same brightness and color richness as the higher resolution 1920x1080 model? It doesn't seem to be. From the item description, this is what they say .....
I did a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate and I want to restore the OEM information in the system properties.
Could some one please right click on your F Series My Computer Icon and select Properties and post a screen shot?

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo with best buy selling the low end model for $1699.99 I'm curious if there is a resource for purchasing z series parts like the 1920 x 1080 screen from the international versions (or the $4500 US version). Even if it's a $400 service part it's still worth it.
I'd have no problem replacing the screen and likely able to see the 1600x900 on ebay for some cash. I just haven't seen a place for Sony parts
The FW has a CCFL screen even if it's hi-color, full hd, right?
Notebook check says it's 357 nits! Is that really the case, b/c I thought the Sony Z would have the best screen and it was something like 280 nits. 357 is just ridiculously bright and the brightest that I've ever heard of.

Is it audible when surfing the web, etc and not under load?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using my 14z for the past week. The main problem I have with it is that the 1600x900 resolution on a 14" screen is too difficult to see for me.
I have tried to change the resolution setting by choosing the defaults and by creating custom resolutions but any resolution other than 1600x900 is fuzzy and not clear.
Is there something I'm missing? Any suggestions?
I was looking to get a new DV7 Laptop and was working on a custom configuration then I noticed that they only have one screen size available for the model now. What happened to the 1680x1050 units that the model use to have. I know they use too use 1440x900 res screens on the unit but now the only available res is 1600x900.

I bought it on ebay so don't have any warranty information, unfortunately. It appears to be the LCD connector or cable. Is it possible to open it up and fix that somehow, or should I buy an IPS screen (the current screen isn't IPS I believe) and replace it myself?
is the sony FW35V(customizable) on the sony style uk site a 1920x1080 a dual lamp LCD?
it says 16.4" H1080 WXGA++ (1920 x 1080) Widescreen X-black LCD screen with built-in "Motion Eye" Digital Camera, but is it a 1920x1080 dual lamp, multiple lamp(how many?) orr single lamp? make sure its the fw35v not the fw35x. the fw35v is the one that costs £60 to upgrade the screen. the fw35x says HD1080 (1920x1080) X-black LCD with multiple lamp, which im guessing is a dual lamp LCD right? also is the Dual lamp worth it for £60?
what does it do? give brighter?, sharper?, more deep and rich colours? or something else?
I am considering some laptops and the sony vaio is one of them. I have heard great things about the screen but it is glossy, something I have sworn off all these years. I have seeing reflections on my screen. how the anti-reflective screen performs?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy SZ430 has been a workhorse for me for 3+ years and I m now looking into the replacement of either Z or Y series....
Problem I have is I have 2 docking stations for my SZ in my home and office and would like to know if I can reuse those for the new Z or Y series.
I just bought a brand new Sony Vaio VPCF11M1E and I have the following problem:
Because in normal stand the screen is very small, I enlarged it to x150%. Everything becomes bigger, but the following parts are blurry and absolutely not sharp:
-Pop ups, of programs and of windows itself (like advanced settings of something and then a new windows pops up, that one is then totally blurry; you can read it, but it is not the good resolution)
-Google chrome (and with that, all the internet pages)
-The google chrome on the desktop is also very blurry, while all the others, are still sharp (after the enlargement by 150%)
I have tried everything (32 bits colours is on, cleartype is on). I also did a system restore to the first days I bought the laptop and then it was on 100% so the resolution was excellent, but then I put it on 150% and again, the parts I mentioned above, were blurry.
the fw series can be purchased with either the
16.4" VAIO Display (1600x900) or the
16.4" VAIO extra-wide HD display (1920x1080)
How much smaller is the text on the true HD screen? I will be using the laptop for charts so more pixels means more screen real estate means more charts. But if the text is difficult to read, then it is counterproductive.
Seeing the gridlines on the charts is also important so if I need a magnifying glass to see what's going on, then the TRUE HD screen is not worth it
Still looking actively for a 11" Vaio laptop. Is TZ LCD screen sharper and crisper than TT LCD Screen ?
