Sony :: FW Series Hi-Color Nits, Screen Quality- Fan Noise
Mar 20, 2009The FW has a CCFL screen even if it's hi-color, full hd, right?
Notebook check says it's 357 nits! Is that really the case, b/c I thought the Sony Z would have the best screen and it was something like 280 nits. 357 is just ridiculously bright and the brightest that I've ever heard of.
1920x1080 hi-color screen vs the Sony Z's screen?
Is it audible when surfing the web, etc and not under load?

Mar 22, 2010I just picked up the Sony Vaio F series from Best Buy and noticed that the video colors are distorted (bluish) when playing blu-ray or regular videos on the laptop. I tried tinkering with the display and nvidia settings. No luck. Pictures / images look fine. Only videos have the odd bluish color.

Aug 19, 2009I got my Dell SXPS16 (1080p WLED screen) the other day and well I like it but there is something that I do not like, the screens color is WAY off. I have tried messing with the ATI catalyst thing and the control panel color adjustment thing and neither seems to fully fix the problem. I have checked other screens and my old M1530 for accuracy and the SXPS is off.
To give you and example of how the color is messed up the various links on notbookreview have a purple tint and are not the usual blue. The folders (a la my documents, sub folders etc), are quite green and faded as oppose to the normal tan color.
I reduced the gama in control panel but which makes the "purple link" appear a little bit more blue but the folders are still green.

Jun 4, 2014I have a ThinkPad W530 with color sensor and Pantone Color Calibrator. It has worked just fine since I got the computer brand-new over a year ago. For the last week or so, my color calibrator has failed to launch when I click on the "ThinkPad Display needs to be re-profiled" notification. I get the spinning icon, but after a few moments it just disappears. I've tried doing a restore, and chosen a time-point before I think this happened. But the system refuses to go back to that restore point because it "can't find a file." What the ????? I have not deleted any files from the system folders, I can only believe that one of my automatic updates has screwed this up. Of course, the message does not tell me what *kind* of file is missing.

Lenovo B / G Series :: No Device In Color Management After Reinstall Intel HD 400 Driver
Aug 28, 2014Recently I have had problem doing external monitor calibration under Win 8.1 64-bit. Â It turned out that that monitor did not show up in the "Device" pull-down menu in the Color Management. Â So I update the Intel HD graphic 400 driver. Â It didn't work. Â Then I uninstall the video driver and re-install from the scratch. Â Now I have found even the built-in monitor did not show up at the Color Management. Â Only printers show up in the Device pull-down menu.

I wonder if there other software or driver that I need to install? Â Or I have mseed up so One-touch Restore will be required?
Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W520 - Color Calibration Has A Mind Of Its Own (on Battery)
May 30, 2012If the system has been on battery at any point of the session, color calibration seems to mess itself up according to what's on screen. If darker colors dominate the screen, the colors slowly (but visibly) go all weird. When there's mostly white content on screen, it returns to normal.
I've been browsing some power management settings and none of them seems to relate to this. The system is W520 with FHD screen, Intel 8.15.10.2538 drivers, Nvidia 332.21 drivers, Windows 7. This does not occur in Ubuntu, nor on an external monitor.

Jul 6, 2009I recently bought a refurbished Studio XPS 16 with the 1080P RGB screen and was very disappointed. It did not seem very bright and was unable to accurately reproduce the color 'white'.
Everything that was supposed to be white (windows explorer background, wordpad, etc) seemed blue-grayish. I ended up returning the laptop but was just wondering if this is a common issue or if I had a dud.
I would love to order another Studio XPS 16, but only want to do so if this is not a problem with all the 1080P RGB displays.

Jan 25, 2015I had a problem for a few days now, sometimes, out of nothing, the screen color turns yellowish....like a warm color....i right click in the home screen, personalize, display, calibrate color, the template for color calibration appears, i enter next...and voilá, it comes back to the cold white color....it just happened as i turn from tent mode to laptop mode to wright this thread
Any other way of disabling this change?

I got my Dell M6400 in about 10 days ago and immediately noticed a bluish/purplish tint in the grays. I compared it to my other two laptops and several desktops and it is definitely off. I connected my desktop monitor to the video out on the M6400 and it looks like it is suppose to.
After trying about everything possible, I contacted support and they immediately sent someone out to replace the LCD. The tech noticed it as well and agreed that it was not (or at least should not) be normal. I have never seen a screen do this before.
At any rate... Dell is sending me a new machine, but I am worried that this might be something that is inherent with this video card and LG screen combination.
I simply cannot imagine this being inherent and Dell allowing laptops to go out with the problem. I can't even imagine how they could have tested the screen and not noticed the problem.
Sony :: What Color Goes Better- Vaio FW
Jun 22, 2009I know this is a rather odd question but i'm really weird when it comes to colors and what looks better. I can't decide what fits better on the sony vaio FW between the titanium gray or black.
*Black makes the outside layer of the laptop blend as the top and bottom are black(inside would be silver with black keys).
*Titanium gray has pretty much all that you can see(exluding the bottom of course and keyboards) titanium silverish giving it that blend.
I DON'T KNOW SO VOTE FOR ME.
This is serious, i can't make a purchase on the new sony vaio until i figure out the color T_T

May 6, 2010I have Z11 with 1600x900 screen and I'm getting sick and tired from it
For starters, gamma was too low, I had to calibrate it using standard Display Calibrator in windows (not that i pretend i have a perfect color perception though) to get more details on shady pictures.
After that it was almost perfect, but color saturation was too high. It can be easily tuned using intel vcard control panel, but I've noticed slight flickering in gray color areas (only when using intel vcard), so I decided to switch to Nvidia card for text editing. But I can't reduce color intensity using Nvidia control panel! Digital vibrance is set to zero by default and can not be negative (at least in current drivers).
It there any way to overcome this problem? Am I the only one noticing? Every time I fire up my text editor, syntax highlighting is more like "Fear and loathing in Las Vegas", even page links on this forum are too purple.
It's not caused by increased gamma, I noticed it long before.

Sony :: NVidia Control Panel Color Settings Won't Stick
May 14, 2010CW26FX - Anyone having trouble getting their video color settings to stick? I have adjusted my screen brightness/color/contrast via the NVidia Control Panel, but I periodically lose my settings. Initially there was a conflict with the VAIO Control Center - display settings there superseded whatever I did in the NVidia Control Panel. I eventually figured out how to get the NVidia Control Panel settings to stick by changing the display settings in the VAIO Control Center first - or at least I thought I did. It would work for a few reboots, but eventually I seemed to lose my settings again. So I uninstalled the VAIO Control Center hoping that would leave my NVidia Control Panel settings alone. But lo & behold I still periodically lose those settings (the NVidia Control Panel radio button "Other applications control color settings" is inexplicably selected.) Any ideas? (And yes, I hit "Apply" before closing out the NVidia Control Panel.)

Oct 18, 2009Sony no longer call the cheaper lower resolution screen as ECO screen. Instead, they simply call it "16.4" VAIO Display (1600x900)".
Does it mean that the lower resolution model has the same brightness and color richness as the higher resolution 1920x1080 model? It doesn't seem to be. From the item description, this is what they say .....
