Dell :: New Inspiron Uses Downgraded Screen 262K Color
Jul 11, 2007
I looked it up on the manual of the 1520 and 1720, they both indicate 262K color or 18bit color vs 16.7mill or 24bit on the older line. I need someone to check their panel when they get this. You cannot check it form any Microsoft OS, you will most likely need Powerstrip to get the panel info.
Have disabled the auto adjustment option in the power settings -> advanced settings -> adaptive brightness.Have disabled the dell extended life battery options.Have tried the proposed workaround to cycle between local and external display settings.I received this laptop in Dec 2014, although it says it is a late 2013 laptop.
I got my Dell SXPS16 (1080p WLED screen) the other day and well I like it but there is something that I do not like, the screens color is WAY off. I have tried messing with the ATI catalyst thing and the control panel color adjustment thing and neither seems to fully fix the problem. I have checked other screens and my old M1530 for accuracy and the SXPS is off.
To give you and example of how the color is messed up the various links on notbookreview have a purple tint and are not the usual blue. The folders (a la my documents, sub folders etc), are quite green and faded as oppose to the normal tan color.
I reduced the gama in control panel but which makes the "purple link" appear a little bit more blue but the folders are still green.
I recently bought a refurbished Studio XPS 16 with the 1080P RGB screen and was very disappointed. It did not seem very bright and was unable to accurately reproduce the color 'white'.
Everything that was supposed to be white (windows explorer background, wordpad, etc) seemed blue-grayish. I ended up returning the laptop but was just wondering if this is a common issue or if I had a dud.
I would love to order another Studio XPS 16, but only want to do so if this is not a problem with all the 1080P RGB displays.

I got my Dell M6400 in about 10 days ago and immediately noticed a bluish/purplish tint in the grays. I compared it to my other two laptops and several desktops and it is definitely off. I connected my desktop monitor to the video out on the M6400 and it looks like it is suppose to.
After trying about everything possible, I contacted support and they immediately sent someone out to replace the LCD. The tech noticed it as well and agreed that it was not (or at least should not) be normal. I have never seen a screen do this before.
At any rate... Dell is sending me a new machine, but I am worried that this might be something that is inherent with this video card and LG screen combination.
I simply cannot imagine this being inherent and Dell allowing laptops to go out with the problem. I can't even imagine how they could have tested the screen and not noticed the problem.
I have Hp G42, and recently a problem has created. all the black colour of my screen turn into red colur. i check the driver and update that also. no improvement. startup screen also shows red colour.
I need to know if I can change the color an Inspiron 6400 (gray to black), using the plastic pieces of a vostro 1000 (black). I think they are the same.
If is possible, i need to know if I just need these parts: - Dell Vostro 1000 Palmrest and Touchpad DX354 (BLACK) - Dell Vostro 1000 15.4" LCD Front Bezel Trim PM606 (BLACK) - Dell Vostro 1000 15.4" LCD Back Cover KT786 (BLACK) - Dell Vostro 1000 Power Button Hinge Cover HX873 (BLACK)
The FW has a CCFL screen even if it's hi-color, full hd, right?
Notebook check says it's 357 nits! Is that really the case, b/c I thought the Sony Z would have the best screen and it was something like 280 nits. 357 is just ridiculously bright and the brightest that I've ever heard of.
1920x1080 hi-color screen vs the Sony Z's screen?
Is it audible when surfing the web, etc and not under load?
I had a problem for a few days now, sometimes, out of nothing, the screen color turns yellowish....like a warm color....i right click in the home screen, personalize, display, calibrate color, the template for color calibration appears, i enter next...and voilá, it comes back to the cold white color....it just happened as i turn from tent mode to laptop mode to wright this thread
My Dell XPS 15z model laptop display screen is suddenly turning to noising with vertical and horizontal scattered color lines. This is happening every 15 to 30 min and when the mouse cursor is activating after automatically resuming the screen normally.
Dell has replaced my SXPS 16s motherboard thrice in order to solve my overheating issues and some usb errors in the diagnostics and each time i have noticed that my motherboard has been downgraded.
The initial one was an A02, replaced by an A02 (new), replaced by an A01 (new), and then replaced by an A00 (refurbed).
All this hassle never solved my problems but introduced a new one - the sound latency issue. I just play a song in WMP and start browsing and the sound crackles and pops so badly that I feel like bloody throwing this thing out of the window, although I cant coz its darn expensive
I started to have a little issue with my LCD..Sometimes when I touch it on the top of the screen( where is webcam) or when I change the angle of the screen, the screen change to this error (greeen color is "error color"):
So I followed the downgrade to XP guide for the 290 but the only problem I'm still having is that it won't recognize my CD/DVD drive even if I install the driver (SOOOTH-01106200-US.EXE).
It definitely works because I installed Windows from a CD and it says the driver is installed but the drive can't be foun
When windows 8 comes out I may wish to upgrade since I heard it takes less system resources but has a nice look and such. Anyways, if I wanted to downgrade to XP, all i'd do is clean format? then just install the disks? would there be any erros since acer modded this laptop or no?
I purchased R400 yesterday and downgraded to XP Pro using the CD coming with the laptop. After the conversion from Vista to XP, I cant see the wireless, bluetooth, finger print etc. In the device manager I can see only "1394 Net Adapter" and "Intel (R) 82567LF Gigabit Network Adapter". Nothing in yellow. Â I downloaded the driver file 6hwc05ww and installed but still I can't see any wireless adapter! why it is not coming automatically like other drivers? How can I install it?
I bought a an HP Pavilion g6-2288ca. Uninstalled Windows 8 and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.My left USB ports are not working. I'm assuming USB3. They have an exclamation mark beside them under device manager. USB Host controller .I've read many solutions, none worked.  #1 Checked the HP drivers page. They don't have ANYTHING listed for USB for the g6-2288ca nor for Windows 7 . #2 I called HP, with no support. They said to check with Microsoft (????) #3 I did all the Windows updates. #4 I installed the full AMD Catalyst driver and software. #5 Updated Bios. (tried to see if I can disable USB3 in the BIOS).. But it wasn't there.   My USB ports are still not working.Â
I have a HP Pavilion 17-e067cl Notebook PC, it came with Windows 8 pre-installed. I really hate windows 8 so I downgraded, but now my wifi-related drivers are down.
I have downgraded our HP Pavilion 17-e019dx from Win 8 to Win 7 and I have successfully found most drivers but are unable to find and resolve a few remaining items. Looking for the drivers for the Ethernet Controller, SM Bus Controller and the USB Controller on the left side of the laptop (right side works). I have browsed the blogs and found the same problem and resoltions but they have all been for the AMD chipset and this machine has the Intel Core i3 4000m CPU 64-bit.
I downgraded this machine to Windows 7. I was able to find the driver for the wireless card; however, I am unable to find the driver for the following:  Ethernet Controller PCI Device SM Bus Controller Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller Unknown Device  I've looked at the driver downloads available for this laptop, but they are mostly software utilities.  My device in an HP 15-n210dx
this is my first time posting, and i have a question.
i've heard that later on there will be different color lids for the sxps 13 and 16.
i understand that this is both a studio and an xps, so it makes me wonder if i can have cool designs on the top. i don't know how thats gonna fly with the leather, because black is the only color that i can think of that would go with it.
so heres my question: do you think that dell will release custom, or at least different colors for the sxps? possibly midnight blue, the RED one, white, brown, green. anything. and if you do, when do you think they will release the new options?
Regatta blue? (My Favorite) Regal Red? I know a few people on here have blue but i was just wondering how widespread the color choices are among NBR members?
Just bought the 3521 Inspiron touch screen. Two questions:Does the touch screen require a screen protector? Many different answers. Would like your opinion! The outside cover shows fingerprints (even with clean hands). Can the outside cover be replaced to a different color or type (that doesn't show fingerprints)?
So far, the leather-trimmed Studio XPS notebook only comes in black. But that could change very soon.
Dell's designers are considering a red (or according to them, "Bordeaux") plastic/leather lid combo, pictured here. It is not, however, part of the (Product) Red line.
