Jan 4, 2009I'm very close to buying a Latitude E6400 or E6500, but I have a few questions before I pull the trigger. I'm hoping that a few E6400 and E6500 users can help me out...
1- Displays- are they all matte finish or ??? If I go with the E6500, I definitely want the WXGA+ (1440x900) LED-backlit option, but I'm thinking WXGA or WXGA+ (LED-backlit) will do on the smaller E6400.
2- Color choices- I know that Regal Red and Regatta Blue are offered in addition the standard Brushed Metal Black finish. Other than the tiny photos shown on the Product Details page as representations of each color, I can't seem to find any larger photos of the Red or Blue models! Is it a glossy or more of a matte/flat finish.....or should I just stick with the Brushed Metal Black?
3- Which size- 14.1" (E6400) or 15.4" (E6500)? The lighter weight and smaller dimensions of the E6400 are very appealing. I'm just wondering if there are any significant benefits that the E6500 would provide over the E6400 (other than the availability of a WUXGA display)?
4- Thermal Management- The reviews I've seen were models with the P8400 processor and integrated graphics. Heat management was very good on those configurations. Does that hold true for models wity T9400/T9600 processsor and the nVIDIA graphics card? Is fan noise ever a problem?

Mar 22, 2010I just picked up the Sony Vaio F series from Best Buy and noticed that the video colors are distorted (bluish) when playing blu-ray or regular videos on the laptop. I tried tinkering with the display and nvidia settings. No luck. Pictures / images look fine. Only videos have the odd bluish color.

Notebook check says it's 357 nits! Is that really the case, b/c I thought the Sony Z would have the best screen and it was something like 280 nits. 357 is just ridiculously bright and the brightest that I've ever heard of.

Is it audible when surfing the web, etc and not under load?

Jun 4, 2014I have a ThinkPad W530 with color sensor and Pantone Color Calibrator. It has worked just fine since I got the computer brand-new over a year ago. For the last week or so, my color calibrator has failed to launch when I click on the "ThinkPad Display needs to be re-profiled" notification. I get the spinning icon, but after a few moments it just disappears. I've tried doing a restore, and chosen a time-point before I think this happened. But the system refuses to go back to that restore point because it "can't find a file." What the ????? I have not deleted any files from the system folders, I can only believe that one of my automatic updates has screwed this up. Of course, the message does not tell me what *kind* of file is missing.

Lenovo B / G Series :: No Device In Color Management After Reinstall Intel HD 400 Driver
Aug 28, 2014Recently I have had problem doing external monitor calibration under Win 8.1 64-bit. It turned out that that monitor did not show up in the "Device" pull-down menu in the Color Management. So I update the Intel HD graphic 400 driver. It didn't work. Then I uninstall the video driver and re-install from the scratch. Now I have found even the built-in monitor did not show up at the Color Management. Only printers show up in the Device pull-down menu.
I wonder if there other software or driver that I need to install? Or I have mseed up so One-touch Restore will be required?
Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W520 - Color Calibration Has A Mind Of Its Own (on Battery)
May 30, 2012If the system has been on battery at any point of the session, color calibration seems to mess itself up according to what's on screen. If darker colors dominate the screen, the colors slowly (but visibly) go all weird. When there's mostly white content on screen, it returns to normal.
I've been browsing some power management settings and none of them seems to relate to this. The system is W520 with FHD screen, Intel 8.15.10.2538 drivers, Nvidia 332.21 drivers, Windows 7. This does not occur in Ubuntu, nor on an external monitor.

Nov 12, 2009I have been the happy user of many a Dell Latitude over the years as my employer has chosen Dell as the global IT Hardware provider.
I have been enjoying a D410 with XP without much hassle and have now been asked to choose between a 6400, 4300 or 4200. I have written off the 6400 already - I think - as it is too big and I like the portability of my current D410.
Also I have an Alienware m9750 at home for gaming and an old Sony Vaio FS Series that I have bequeathed to my GF, so I am chosing the new Latitude for business only.

Jan 30, 2009I have bought a Lenovo Ultrabay Slim II HDD Bay (for T400/T500...)!
It's Sata II and can hold a single 2,5" HDD. And the best: It fits the Modular Bay of my Latitude E6400!
I have also tested the speed and could achieve full SataII transfer speed (in my case 286 Mbytes/s). So this is also an option for using a SSD in your Laptop.

Dec 11, 2008So ive been having fan issues with e6400+E/Dock for months now.
I have the dock with a 19' monitor on top and, a 17 incher attached to the left.
For some reason, after about an hour of use or when using a multitude of programs at once, my fan would kick into high gear and proceed to drive me nuts for hours. When looking up my temps, I noticed that the fan kicked in when my NVIDIA Quadro went above 61/62 degrees (occasionally going as high as 71).
Granted, I probably should have done this simple test months ago, but I finally decided to you use my setup W/O the 17 inch monitor and completely disconnected it from my dock.
Low and behold: no fan issues.
Temps remain in the mid-50's and fan stays at a low, quiet speed.
It appears that the extra work needed to drive the additional monitor is pushing the temps up and kicking in the fan.
So I have two questions as a result:
1) Didn't DELL test this dock before marketing/advertising it to be able to handle multiple monitors (without the aid of a very noisy and distracting fan)?
2) Am I supposed to just live with this now or, is it safe to try and over-ride DELLS factory settings to get the fan to remain at a low setting (how high is 66-70 degrees for the Quadro anyways)?
Multiple monitors are critical to my business and I honestly would not have dropped 2gs+ for this system had I known the fan would be this noisy and distracting.
Dell :: Best Cable Lock For Latitude E6500/E6400 Series
Feb 4, 2010I just ordered a Dell Latitude E6500.
Now I'm looking to get a cable lock for it. I know they are not the best at protecting your laptop, but some protection is better than none, besides I just want to lock down to a table while I need to run to the bathroom for a minute.
So, from personal experience, if you have a Dell Latitude E6500/E6400, what locks work/fit best for it? I've done some research and I've tried to read around(couldn't find much on here for the specific laptop).

Sep 3, 2009I have ordered E6400 but I have choosen Intel 5100 wifi card with two antenna port. I heard that this model isn't very good so I'm thinking about the upgrade to Intel 5300 with 3 antenna ports. I have a question about the antenna cables. How many cables are there near the wifi card in latitude with 5100? two or three? If there are only 2 cables, so the upgrade brings me no advantage.

i've heard that later on there will be different color lids for the sxps 13 and 16.
i understand that this is both a studio and an xps, so it makes me wonder if i can have cool designs on the top. i don't know how thats gonna fly with the leather, because black is the only color that i can think of that would go with it.
so heres my question: do you think that dell will release custom, or at least different colors for the sxps? possibly midnight blue, the RED one, white, brown, green. anything. and if you do, when do you think they will release the new options?

Dell :: Studio XPS 16 Might Soon Have A Bordeaux Red Color Option

Dell's designers are considering a red (or according to them, "Bordeaux") plastic/leather lid combo, pictured here. It is not, however, part of the (Product) Red line.

Aug 19, 2009I got my Dell SXPS16 (1080p WLED screen) the other day and well I like it but there is something that I do not like, the screens color is WAY off. I have tried messing with the ATI catalyst thing and the control panel color adjustment thing and neither seems to fully fix the problem. I have checked other screens and my old M1530 for accuracy and the SXPS is off.
To give you and example of how the color is messed up the various links on notbookreview have a purple tint and are not the usual blue. The folders (a la my documents, sub folders etc), are quite green and faded as oppose to the normal tan color.
I reduced the gama in control panel but which makes the "purple link" appear a little bit more blue but the folders are still green.
