Jun 4, 2014I have a ThinkPad W530 with color sensor and Pantone Color Calibrator. It has worked just fine since I got the computer brand-new over a year ago. For the last week or so, my color calibrator has failed to launch when I click on the "ThinkPad Display needs to be re-profiled" notification. I get the spinning icon, but after a few moments it just disappears. I've tried doing a restore, and chosen a time-point before I think this happened. But the system refuses to go back to that restore point because it "can't find a file." What the ????? I have not deleted any files from the system folders, I can only believe that one of my automatic updates has screwed this up. Of course, the message does not tell me what *kind* of file is missing.

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W520 - Color Calibration Has A Mind Of Its Own (on Battery)
May 30, 2012If the system has been on battery at any point of the session, color calibration seems to mess itself up according to what's on screen. If darker colors dominate the screen, the colors slowly (but visibly) go all weird. When there's mostly white content on screen, it returns to normal.
I've been browsing some power management settings and none of them seems to relate to this. The system is W520 with FHD screen, Intel 8.15.10.2538 drivers, Nvidia 332.21 drivers, Windows 7. This does not occur in Ubuntu, nor on an external monitor.

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W540 FaceTime HD Camera (Display) Driver Not Installed
Nov 3, 2009My new W540 (11/10/2014) Lenovo Solution Center under the Check-up tab alerts me that the FaceTime HD Camera (Display) Driver is Not Installed. Such as it is, the camera, a 720P HD, works just fine. A search of resources does not uncover any comment or Driver on this issue. So, since there is no problem as near as I can determine, should I just ignore the lack of Driver issue, and if so, what is the procedure to stop the Solution Center from alerting me to this error? But if on the other hand I should install the Driver, where is that to be found?

I'm using the W540 in the Ultra Dock with video on a second monitor, an Apple monitor, using a Thunderbolt cable. There is no Thunderbolt port in the Dock, so I use the W540 port which surprised me that it works.

FWIW, it is taking me a lot of time learning the location of programs and utilities having moved from my old W510 Win 7(64) setup to the W540 Win(64) 8.1 setup.

Sony :: Z11: Color Intensity Is Too High (1600x900)
May 6, 2010I have Z11 with 1600x900 screen and I'm getting sick and tired from it
For starters, gamma was too low, I had to calibrate it using standard Display Calibrator in windows (not that i pretend i have a perfect color perception though) to get more details on shady pictures.
After that it was almost perfect, but color saturation was too high. It can be easily tuned using intel vcard control panel, but I've noticed slight flickering in gray color areas (only when using intel vcard), so I decided to switch to Nvidia card for text editing. But I can't reduce color intensity using Nvidia control panel! Digital vibrance is set to zero by default and can not be negative (at least in current drivers).
It there any way to overcome this problem? Am I the only one noticing? Every time I fire up my text editor, syntax highlighting is more like "Fear and loathing in Las Vegas", even page links on this forum are too purple.
It's not caused by increased gamma, I noticed it long before.

May 27, 2014I've got 2 separate but really annoying issues with my W540 20BH:

- display brightness keys not working: when waking up from Hibernation mode, sometimer (really, randomly!) the display brightness keys (Fn+F5/F6) don't work.... either if the display brightness is stuck on max, min or an intermediate level...Is there a way to shut down and restart the process which commands the Fn keys?

- audio channel commutation gets stuck. Normal behaviour of the audio configuration is:
1) speaker volume disabled, mic disabled
2) when plugging in a 4-pin headset, headset's volume is on, headset's mic is switched on; speaker volume is still disables.
3) when unplugging the headset, speakers' volume is still 0

After each boot, the audio channel is at 0, but doesn't commute to the headset when plugged in! I have to open Configuration Panel, realtek properties. With this window open, unplug and re-plug the headset. Now, the volume has its normal behaviour.

Any better way to configure audio channels and evenments, which is able to bypass realtek's manager?

Â It turned out that that monitor did not show up in the "Device" pull-down menu in the Color Management. Â So I update the Intel HD graphic 400 driver. Â It didn't work. Â Then I uninstall the video driver and re-install from the scratch. Â Now I have found even the built-in monitor did not show up at the Color Management. Â Only printers show up in the Device pull-down menu.

May 18, 2014I have recently purchased a W540 and connected to my Dell u3011 30" monitor. I used the Dual Link DVI-D cable that came with the monitor and plugged it into my Ultra Dock. The maximum resolution i can get is 1920x1080? When i change over to a Display port cable i can achieve the full 2560 x 1600 resolution? Is there something i need to do in addition to achieve the full 2560x1600 resolution with the DVI-D dual link cable? I want to be able to connect 2 laptops to the one monitor and only have 1 display port input so i need to be able to use the DVI cable on the 2nd machine while still achieving 2560x1600 resolution.

Jan 4, 2009I'm very close to buying a Latitude E6400 or E6500, but I have a few questions before I pull the trigger. I'm hoping that a few E6400 and E6500 users can help me out...
1- Displays- are they all matte finish or ??? If I go with the E6500, I definitely want the WXGA+ (1440x900) LED-backlit option, but I'm thinking WXGA or WXGA+ (LED-backlit) will do on the smaller E6400.
2- Color choices- I know that Regal Red and Regatta Blue are offered in addition the standard Brushed Metal Black finish. Other than the tiny photos shown on the Product Details page as representations of each color, I can't seem to find any larger photos of the Red or Blue models! Is it a glossy or more of a matte/flat finish.....or should I just stick with the Brushed Metal Black?
3- Which size- 14.1" (E6400) or 15.4" (E6500)? The lighter weight and smaller dimensions of the E6400 are very appealing. I'm just wondering if there are any significant benefits that the E6500 would provide over the E6400 (other than the availability of a WUXGA display)?
4- Thermal Management- The reviews I've seen were models with the P8400 processor and integrated graphics. Heat management was very good on those configurations. Does that hold true for models wity T9400/T9600 processsor and the nVIDIA graphics card? Is fan noise ever a problem?
Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W540 Won't Wake Up?
Sep 7, 2014My new W540 has the latest bios & software updates.  It won't wake up from sleep...or rather the display won't come on.  When I push the power button (pulsing green), it goes to solid green and the fingerprint scanner light turns on, but no screen.  I scan my fingerprint and the scanner light turns off, but still no screen.  The only way to bring it back to life is a long press on the power button and a reboot.

Nothing plugged into any of the ports. Â It does this regardless of whether it's plugged in or on battery.

Jan 11, 2009I've got two quick questions. Ones an issue, ones more of a slight curiosity bordering on issue.
A, when watching streaming movies on Hulu in full screen, high quality, the video is jerky. I can watch hidef rips just fine, but streaming high quality is very poor.
And it's not my connection, as both my desktops and my other laptop (an older M2000) handle it just fine.

Â It will still display on other monitors connected through the docking station, but not the laptop. Â It doesn't matter if I put it to sleep while on the dock or off the dock, it never recognizes the monitor. Â

I have an Intel HD Grpahics 4600, and an NVIDIA Quadro K1100M video cards. Â I've checked drivers for both and they both say they are up to date (9/29/14 for Intel, and 09/12/2014 for NVIDIA). Â I have also updated every possible thing in the Lenovo System Update.

Can I use mobile broadband on the W540? do I need any drivers? and if I can't use it, can I buy something like this for the expresscard slot and insert the SIM in the slot behind the battery?
