View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having a bit of a strange problem with my Thinkpad X201.
I've been running Windows 7 Pro on it for almost a year without any problems at all, but the SSD I installed developed a fault and had to be replaced. I have the original Win 7 Pro DVD and have installed it from scratch on the new SSD but a few problems have come up.
W7 couldn't find any drivers for the network card or wireless card, and without a network connection it couldn't go online to find any - luckily I was able to download a network card driver via my desktop pc which I then installed on the X201, and when the Windows updates were downloaded and installed, the wireless also started working too.
However, the on-screen displays for the volume, brightness and Caps Lock functions don't work and neither does the Fn-F5 for wireless and Bluetooth.
I spent all of yesterday evening hunting various forums and downloading numerous drivers etc, but I still can't get the OSD to work.
I've tried Lenovo's System Update which downloaded some things and have also tried using the Intel video drivers etc but am totally lost now as to what to do next.
I know that the OSDs do work as they were all working perfectly on the original W7 install, I just don't know what the problem is now with this clean install.
I have tried in Windows 7 64bit and 8 64bit and have had no luck.
I have googled all over and found some hints on this forum to try installing Communication Manager, but it does not solve anything. It's like the camera is not seen.
I know the camera is not broken or disconnected because LINUX of all things can see it and use it.
On the X201 page there are no drivers for the camera at all, only the communication manager install. For Win 8 it is listed that the drivers are built into Windows 8, but as far as I can tell this is not the case, unless i am doing something wrong?
How to get working webcam with X201 at all in Windows?
Can i disable battery charging on thinkpad x201, so i don't need to pull out my battery every time? Because although my battery stop charging when it is fully charged i don't want to use battery as power sourse after that.

Since then and only when I use the new battery, AC unplugged, my laptop randomly shuts down with no warning. No overheating issue.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo Thinkpad x201 laptop and I cannot get the integrated camera to turn on independent from Skype. It definitely works, I have used it several times with Skype, but I can't figure out how to turn it on outside of Skype. I have tried the Fn+Esc and the Fn+F6 things, and quite frankly I'm not even sure if it applies to x201 laptops, but its definitely not working for mine. My laptop is refurbished and i just got it recently.

My Yoga 2 pro bought couple of days back doesn't show yellow properly. I tried to install the BIOS as suggested to fix the issue but got an installation error due to older rom file. This could be because I may already have latest BIOS version.
How to fix the yellow color issue. Not sure where to start.
Okay so i probaly have the weirdest problem ever with this laptop, so the issue started when the display stopped working properly and would only work at a certain angle or when u would apply slight pressure on a certain part of the screen, faulty monitor correct?wrong. When i uninstalled the intel gpu drivers and reverted back to the standard microsoft display adapter all these problems disappeared, screen would work at all angles and the display would have no issues, so that sums out the possibility of the monitor being faulty. The display starts having these issues everytime the intel display drivers are installed, it just blows my mind how this is even a thing. The screen flickers twice and turns off after windows is done booting when the intel drivers are installed and works perfectly without them.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a ThinkPad W530 with color sensor and Pantone Color Calibrator. It has worked just fine since I got the computer brand-new over a year ago. For the last week or so, my color calibrator has failed to launch when I click on the "ThinkPad Display needs to be re-profiled" notification. I get the spinning icon, but after a few moments it just disappears. I've tried doing a restore, and chosen a time-point before I think this happened. But the system refuses to go back to that restore point because it "can't find a file." What the ????? I have not deleted any files from the system folders, I can only believe that one of my automatic updates has screwed this up. Of course, the message does not tell me what *kind* of file is missing.

If the system has been on battery at any point of the session, color calibration seems to mess itself up according to what's on screen. If darker colors dominate the screen, the colors slowly (but visibly) go all weird. When there's mostly white content on screen, it returns to normal.
I've been browsing some power management settings and none of them seems to relate to this. The system is W520 with FHD screen, Intel 8.15.10.2538 drivers, Nvidia 332.21 drivers, Windows 7. This does not occur in Ubuntu, nor on an external monitor.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with the OneLink dock and the ethernet port. Initially it was working but after a BIOS update it now always gives me "Unknowns USB device".
I just got my hands on a i7 X1 Carbon 2 and a OneLink Pro dock and at first it all worked out as it should.
After a while the "System update" prompted me that there were updates I let it run, including an updateof BIOS from 1.06 to 1.07. Now I can no longer get it to work.
Whenever i plug it in i know get: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
The SuperSpeed link to the USB device keeps going to an error state Compliance. If the device is removable, remove the device and then disable/enable from device manager to recover.
I even did a full system restore and started from the beginning...
I have a X230 (model 2357G) with a type 4338 dock. I'm currently running dual 1920x108 monitors via the dual DVI ports in the dock. But I wonder if the dual Displayports in the dock can handle something with a higher resolution like dual 3840x2160 monitors ?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a ThinkPad X240 laptop with Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 installed. Sound plays just fine from the laptop's speakers, and when I plug external speakers into the laptop's 3.5mm audio port they work just fine too. when the laptop is docked in my Ultra Dock 90W docking station and the external speakers cable is plugged into the dock's audio port, no sound is heard. If I'm playing music through the laptop's speakers, as soon as I plug a cable into the dock's audio port no sound is heard. I can still use the laptop's audio port to connect external speakers, but that defeats the object of having an audio port on the Ultra Dock.
The Ultra Dock has (I believe) the latest firmware installed (version 2.22.000) and I have the latest audio drivers installed: in Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers > Realtek High Definition Audio > Driver version is 6.0.1.7188 which is the latest available from Lenovo Support downloads. What do I need to do to get the Ultra Dock's audio port working? I mistakenly posted this message on the "X Series tablet ThinkPad Laptops" board.
When I connect my external monitor (ASUS PA248) to my W520, the audio disappears. When I disconnect it, the audio returns. This seems a bizarre link between audio and video, but there it is. Note that the PA248 does NOT have built-in speakers.

It can connect to my WiFi network, however after using the internet for a few minutes, it consistently gets the yellow "!" over the wifi icon in the task bar and says no internet connection and I loose my connection. I know it is an issue with THIS laptop since my old and decrepit HP laptop which sits next to it works perfectly fine using the same network, as well as my smartphone and room mate's devices.
I have downloaded the Lenovo update software and attempted to use it. I get a message saying something along the lines of no available packages, assuming that means everything is up to date in terms of drivers.
I have done some research with the terms "lenovo, g570, wifi, internet, problems, connection" and yield many pages, however none have seem to provide a solution that works for me.
I have an ideapad z500 which I'm happy for, but it annoys me that when 'm at my college I can't properly connect to the wi-fi the school has. When I connect, I'm on for usually about half an hour, but then I get the "limited connection" yellow triangle and I have to deactivate the networkcard before I can get a normal connection.
Other times I simply just can't connect, it tries but it fails. When it does, I have to reboot the computer before it succeeds, and that's no good when you are working on a project. At home i have no problems, it works nicely.
Also, how to enable the WiDi on the z500.

Recently I have had problem doing external monitor calibration under Win 8.1 64-bit. It turned out that that monitor did not show up in the "Device" pull-down menu in the Color Management. So I update the Intel HD graphic 400 driver. It didn't work. Then I uninstall the video driver and re-install from the scratch. Now I have found even the built-in monitor did not show up at the Color Management. Only printers show up in the Device pull-down menu.
I wonder if there other software or driver that I need to install? Or I have mseed up so One-touch Restore will be required?
I have a Thinkpad Edge E520 1143 AK7, working on windows 8, 32 Bit Pro.
From somewhere in the settings I had disabled charging option on "alwyas-on" USB port since I did not possess a smart phone.
Now, I have a smart phone and wanted to re-instate the facility. However, I am unable to find the option to enable the settings.
I enabled all the 3 options from BIOS and "refreshed" the machine to default state.
The USB port charges when the system is booted and stops charging when I shut down the PC.
I would like to know the interface type of the optical drive sata port of a ThinkPad E540. It's a sata I, sata II or sata III?

I have a Lenovo y510p and have a really annoying problem with it's USB 3 ports. Everytime I try to connect a smartphone(android) it will initially detect it but just seconds after it just disconnects it and then connects it back again, it just a never ending cycle. As a result I can't copy files. The ports work well with other flash drives and even my external hard drive. It's just the smartphones that are affected. I have used 3 smartphones already all different models and they all exhibit the same behavior on both the usb 3 ports. But the smartphones worked fine when used with other computers.
