View 9 RepliesI'm having a bit of a strange problem with my Thinkpad X201.
I've been running Windows 7 Pro on it for almost a year without any problems at all, but the SSD I installed developed a fault and had to be replaced. I have the original Win 7 Pro DVD and have installed it from scratch on the new SSD but a few problems have come up.
W7 couldn't find any drivers for the network card or wireless card, and without a network connection it couldn't go online to find any - luckily I was able to download a network card driver via my desktop pc which I then installed on the X201, and when the Windows updates were downloaded and installed, the wireless also started working too.
However, the on-screen displays for the volume, brightness and Caps Lock functions don't work and neither does the Fn-F5 for wireless and Bluetooth.
I spent all of yesterday evening hunting various forums and downloading numerous drivers etc, but I still can't get the OSD to work.
I've tried Lenovo's System Update which downloaded some things and have also tried using the Intel video drivers etc but am totally lost now as to what to do next.
I know that the OSDs do work as they were all working perfectly on the original W7 install, I just don't know what the problem is now with this clean install.
I have tried in Windows 7 64bit and 8 64bit and have had no luck.
I have googled all over and found some hints on this forum to try installing Communication Manager, but it does not solve anything. It's like the camera is not seen.
I know the camera is not broken or disconnected because LINUX of all things can see it and use it.
On the X201 page there are no drivers for the camera at all, only the communication manager install. For Win 8 it is listed that the drivers are built into Windows 8, but as far as I can tell this is not the case, unless i am doing something wrong?
How to get working webcam with X201 at all in Windows?
Can i disable battery charging on thinkpad x201, so i don't need to pull out my battery every time? Because although my battery stop charging when it is fully charged i don't want to use battery as power sourse after that.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI use my X201 for 4 years now without any trouble. The original battery getting worned out, I replaced it with a 9Cell Duracell (Sanyo) one.
Since then and only when I use the new battery, AC unplugged, my laptop randomly shuts down with no warning. No overheating issue.
The Win7 logs point to powerfailure (Kernel Power at restart shows error 61)
I recently purchased a new x201 and noticed that one of my three USB ports is colored with yellow plastic (like the yellow surrounding the power plug). What this special coloring indicates? I can't find any literature explaining the port's special color...

Lenovo connects to the internet with this modem, but then after sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes after half an hour, the modem loses conncetion, although its dedicated application does not indicate lost connection.
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad x201 laptop and I cannot get the integrated camera to turn on independent from Skype. It definitely works, I have used it several times with Skype, but I can't figure out how to turn it on outside of Skype. I have tried the Fn+Esc and the Fn+F6 things, and quite frankly I'm not even sure if it applies to x201 laptops, but its definitely not working for mine. My laptop is refurbished and i just got it recently.

I have a X1 Carbon with Sierra EM7345 WWAN modem. It is all installed perfectly - drivers etc. But id does not recognize the SIM card. I have googled a bit and I can say that:
1) I have the drivers OK, I have the WWAN network adapter etc.
2) I have inserted the SIM card correctly
The SIM card works perferctly if I use the USB 3G stick instead. So the problem is not in the SIM card. I think there is some configuraiton of the Sierra modem which should be done - to switch to 3G/2G or something.
Okay so i probaly have the weirdest problem ever with this laptop, so the issue started when the display stopped working properly and would only work at a certain angle or when u would apply slight pressure on a certain part of the screen, faulty monitor correct?wrong. When i uninstalled the intel gpu drivers and reverted back to the standard microsoft display adapter all these problems disappeared, screen would work at all angles and the display would have no issues, so that sums out the possibility of the monitor being faulty. The display starts having these issues everytime the intel display drivers are installed, it just blows my mind how this is even a thing. The screen flickers twice and turns off after windows is done booting when the intel drivers are installed and works perfectly without them.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a x201 cto using 64bits Win 7. The wireless adapter is intel advanced-N 6200. However, I found my wireless always turn off suddenly and I can not turn it on anymore (even using Fn+F5) until reboot.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently downgraded my girlfriends Acer Aspire 3680 from Vista to XP as it became apparent that this notebook couldn't handle vista well; (on a side note, this is the second aspire 3680 that I have downgraded). For some reason no matter what I do the computer does not see the internal dial-up modem. Now, as its internal there is no installation disc, I have downloaded 6 different acer aspire 3680 modem drivers from Acer support centers and not a single one worked. In the Device manager, the modem drop down is not even there. I ran the modem troubleshooter and it detected no port was found, but Ports weren't in the device manager either. This one is really stumping me and i'm tired of looking at that screen.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI updated/upgraded my G505 to Windows 8.1 this morning and now it appears that Bluetooth isn't working. I've downloaded the driver listed for the Atheros/Broadcom device, but when the install runs it says it can't find anything to install. Manually running both driver installs doesn't get me anywhere.
Is this a known issue with Win 8.1? I tried the Win 8 driver, same thing.
When I start my X201 Tablet, I always get a Fan error message.
I used compressed air - then it worked for a couple of days, but not anymore.
When I take of the keyboard, I see that the fan is starting to spin, but suddendly stops right before the error message.
Should I replace the fan, or might it be a problem with the motherboard - and how am I then able to fix it?
Yesterday I tried out the fingerprint ID function. It didn't seem to complete the set up as there was no message or any other indication that it had after I swiped my finger across the reader. Then I put the computer into hibernation.
Now switching it on it asks for a password. Above that field it says 'User' which I presume is the generic when no password is set. I tried a few paswords (the Lenovo reg. one I use and the one even for this forum as unlikely tries) then I noticed that under 'User' it said 'Logged on'.
Then a friend tried a restart and a message appeared saying, in effect, that there was another user and which one was to log off. I don't remember exactly as that friend was with me and this occured then. So is that 2nd user anything to do with that fingerprint ID attempt? (After this restart the 'Logged on' message is not there.)
If so how do I turn on that fingerprint access? - the lights on the reader are not on (they were working OK when trying to set it up).
Today my x201 has lost all trackpad and touch pad function. Hard disk constantly running. No restore points listed to remove the problem. Everything works okay in Safe Mode. Rebooting several times has not worked.
Could this be related to the Microsoft Bad KB.......69 update? I have not installed any new software recently.
I can only use the pen to access menus. How can I remove recent KB installations using just the pen?
I have managed to remove the bad MS update but to improvement. Next I added a new user (also set as administrator) and the trackpad and touch pad function is now working normally but only with the new user account.
Can remove my own Administrator Account and what effect this will have, i.e. what data might I lose? Can I save data and reinstall it to a new account?
For some reason after some of use the Laptop, the wifi network card gets disabled and not useable. Trying to enable it doesn't work.
I tried to update drivers, and check all webs on this issue but with no solution. Bios updated, Bluetooth works fine.
I use windows 8.1 64 bit. I installed power manager. No success ....
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X201. Due to the nature of my work I am frequently required to boot up from a variety of operating systems. Recently, to protect integrity of the OSes, I moved out Ubuntu onto a spare HDD so now I have two hard disks - one that boots into Windows 7 and another that boots into Ubuntu. The problem is that if I connect the Ubuntu hard disk via USB for bootup, it is death slow and I have had instances where the hard disk developed bad sectors because the USB cable came loose and disconnected the drive. The only other option I am using currently is to manually swap the internal HDDs every time I need to change OSes. I was wondering if I can purchase a spare hard disk tray with its rubber mounts so that all I need to do is unscrew the hard disk bay cover (one screw) and swap the drives rather than have to unscrew the entire assembly and then screw it onto the other HDD repeatedly.
Looking for FRU number for the entire SATA HDD assembly (minus the HDD itself of course but including the rubber rails).
i can't boot on an USB key, the secure boot is desabled and when i press enter to boot on the USB key nothing happen. I had tested with 3 different usb key and 2 different OS. And it work on other laptop i have a lenovo twist... i think its in the BIOS but i had check all options
View 2 Replies View RelatedI turn on my laptap and it start up normally. All are loaded up in the homescreen except the cursor which keeps on loading ( its like when you refresh). All keys are not working except to the CapsLock key, the touchpad and trackpoint ( color red) are working.
I remove the power source and battery to shut it down but it doesn't shut down! Now it is running for 5 minutes, and the screen still ON, continue to refresh. How to shut this down and restart.

My new W540 has the latest bios & software updates. It won't wake up from sleep...or rather the display won't come on. When I push the power button (pulsing green), it goes to solid green and the fingerprint scanner light turns on, but no screen. I scan my fingerprint and the scanner light turns off, but still no screen. The only way to bring it back to life is a long press on the power button and a reboot.
Nothing plugged into any of the ports. It does this regardless of whether it's plugged in or on battery.
How do to use SIM Card here in X240? My company laptop have simcard tray, but i dont know how does it works.
