someone would have developed an ICC color profile for the AW model that uses the X-Brite Technology Screen. I have the cheaper LCD version and not the high dollar RGB Professional model screen.

I could use a color profile too. Laptop is used for internet, photoshop, 3d modelling and watching somemovies.
I've been looking at laptops, specifically the displays, for awhile. The only non-matte one I've found that I've really liked it the X-Brite DuraView on the Sony VAIO Z and TT serieses. However, I'd like a larger laptop and one with more powerful graphics (preferably ATI) than those. Unfortunately, the F-Series does not appear to have DuraView as an option, and its screen is much more in line with the likes of Toshiba, Dell, HP, Asus, and the like - perhaps slightly less glossy, but nowhere near as good as the excellent X-Brite DuraView. If it had the DuraView screen, it would be almost exactly what I'm looking for.
So, my question to y'all is, are there any other Sony notebooks with X-Brite DuraView available - particularly ones with good, preferably ATI, graphics? Or, are there notebooks available from other manufacturers with the same screen technology?
The hardware ID of the 1600x900, 13-inch DuraView screen on a Z-Series that I saw at MicroCenter is SNY06FA; unfortunately so was the one on the 1600x900, 15.6-inch F-Series they had which had a very noticeably different screen.
(I'm referring to the "old" F-series, not the new one unveiled today - specwise, I actually prefer the old one to the new)

View 9 Replies View RelatedI know this is a rather odd question but i'm really weird when it comes to colors and what looks better. I can't decide what fits better on the sony vaio FW between the titanium gray or black.
*Black makes the outside layer of the laptop blend as the top and bottom are black(inside would be silver with black keys).
*Titanium gray has pretty much all that you can see(exluding the bottom of course and keyboards) titanium silverish giving it that blend.
I DON'T KNOW SO VOTE FOR ME.

I'm about to buy a Vaio Z CTO from sony style and wondering which color you guys think is best. My initial thoughts were to go with the silver since the black keys seemed to stand out really nicely. Also, my last gen Z was Prem.Carbon Fiber Black, so Silver would be a nice change..

For starters, gamma was too low, I had to calibrate it using standard Display Calibrator in windows (not that i pretend i have a perfect color perception though) to get more details on shady pictures.
After that it was almost perfect, but color saturation was too high. It can be easily tuned using intel vcard control panel, but I've noticed slight flickering in gray color areas (only when using intel vcard), so I decided to switch to Nvidia card for text editing. But I can't reduce color intensity using Nvidia control panel! Digital vibrance is set to zero by default and can not be negative (at least in current drivers).
It there any way to overcome this problem? Am I the only one noticing? Every time I fire up my text editor, syntax highlighting is more like "Fear and loathing in Las Vegas", even page links on this forum are too purple.
It's not caused by increased gamma, I noticed it long before.

I just picked up the Sony Vaio F series from Best Buy and noticed that the video colors are distorted (bluish) when playing blu-ray or regular videos on the laptop. I tried tinkering with the display and nvidia settings. No luck. Pictures / images look fine. Only videos have the odd bluish color.

I have adjusted my screen brightness/color/contrast via the NVidia Control Panel, but I periodically lose my settings. Initially there was a conflict with the VAIO Control Center - display settings there superseded whatever I did in the NVidia Control Panel. I eventually figured out how to get the NVidia Control Panel settings to stick by changing the display settings in the VAIO Control Center first - or at least I thought I did. It would work for a few reboots, but eventually I seemed to lose my settings again. So I uninstalled the VAIO Control Center hoping that would leave my NVidia Control Panel settings alone. But lo & behold I still periodically lose those settings (the NVidia Control Panel radio button "Other applications control color settings" is inexplicably selected.) Any ideas? (And yes, I hit "Apply" before closing out the NVidia Control Panel.)

Notebook check says it's 357 nits! Is that really the case, b/c I thought the Sony Z would have the best screen and it was something like 280 nits. 357 is just ridiculously bright and the brightest that I've ever heard of.

I have a Pantone Huey Pro and I'm getting really bad results after calibration (washed out colors, greenish cast). After about 2 months of back and forth with Pantone they have told me that "maybe" my colorimeter doesn't have enough range for a screen with such a wide gamut.
The "maybe" part, which suggests they don't even know their own product, is what I find unbelievable
I am still not able to use my laptop as the thing won't or can't load user profile, all I get is the message user profile service failed the logon. I ran the F12 at start up and performed the extended diagnostic test which tells me everything is just peachy.

Though I saw that some laptops can enable that by selecting XMP Profile on BIOS. But, my PCs Bios is not showing any option to select XMP profile or even any Advanced AI option.
