View 10 Replies View Relatedhuge threads dedicated to new Vaio Z (and read more than half of them) but couldn't find any useful information about 1920x1080 screen. I saw 1600x900 model in store and wasn't impressed at all (TN simply can't get better than average IMO)
Is there any information about panel manufacturer/type? Does anybody have proper pics showing its viewing angles (comparison with 1600 model will be even better)?
Don't post about resolution/DPI scaling/small fonts, this thread is devoted to panels' quality only.
I've been having trouble updating my graphics driver. I have a HP Pavillion dv4t 1600 CTO laptop. My operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. My driver device is a Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family, and driver version is 8.15.10.1883 from 8/27/2009. I've been trying to install the lastest from Intel which is 15.17.19.64.2869. However, when attempting to  update drivers I receive an error message:
Â
"The driver being installed is not vaildated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the cmputer manufacturer. Set up will exit."
Â
This leads me to the HP website were I attempt to find a suitable update. However, when using the HP updater or manual search, I end with the same type of driver for graphics, sound, and chipset. My problem is: I don't know which one needs to be updated.Â
Â
I play World of Warcraft, and I receive the message "Your driver device is out of date". That could mean any of them, so while using the Intel Driver Update Utility, none of my drivers appeared. And every time I try to update via HP, it appears that nothing has changed. I'll try to provide as much detail as possible and hope to hear back soon about my problem. Attached below as well are screenshots from the dxdiag window.

I just submitted an order for a new vaio z and while waiting for it I thought I'd look into getting a nice external monitor for home use. After reading through the forum, I can't find any report of a vaio z owner successfully attaching an external monitor with a resolution of more than 1920 x 1200 (due to no dvi-dl compatibility). Specifically, I was hoping to get a 30" 2560 x 1600 monitor.
Is it safe to conclude that it is impossible to connect a 2560 x 1600 external monitor to my new vaio z?
I'm debating what LCD monitor to get between
20" 1600 x 900
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824005128
and
23" 1920 x 1080
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824005125
I know that i'll have a better performance with the 20" since it's using the lower resolution but how much of a decrease in performance would i see if i hooked it up to the 23" and it's native resolution? I'll be playing some what intensive games.
After reading the m6500 discussion thread it sounds like the consensus is that 1600 mhz memory makes no performance difference. But then a lot of folks seem to have configured their machines with 1600 memory and the below review suggests that the memory will help.
http://www.legitreviews.com/article/842/1/
So to have this fully hashed out, I think we need to answer the below questions:
1) If you order the extreme processor does the BIOS recognize the 1600 mhz memory?
2) Even if it does recognize it does it make a difference?
3) Why did people with the extreme processor order the 1600 mhz memory?
4) Can we fill in the WEI scores for memory using 4 and 8 GB of both 1333 and 1600 memory with the extreme processor?
I have a chance to buy a 15" MB Pro for $1150. It has the following:
2.33GHz
4GB RAM
320GB HDD
DVD+/-R/RW DL Super Drive
802.11n WiFi
illuminated keyboard
256MB Radeon 1600
Applecare through Jan. 2010.
I have a pre-2009 17" MB Pro now with a 2.5Ghz CPU and 512MB 8600 video.
I just want a 2nd laptop that is smaller than the 17" for me and the misses to use. I will probably use Lightroom on it, iTunes, iPhoto, and Internet mostly and want to run the occasional game (nothing to resource intensive).
I just don't want to pay $2500 for a unibody. I would get a plain jane MB but I want a video card.....
Sony no longer call the cheaper lower resolution screen as ECO screen. Instead, they simply call it "16.4" VAIO Display (1600x900)".
Does it mean that the lower resolution model has the same brightness and color richness as the higher resolution 1920x1080 model? It doesn't seem to be. From the item description, this is what they say .....
I did a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate and I want to restore the OEM information in the system properties.
Could some one please right click on your F Series My Computer Icon and select Properties and post a screen shot?

So with best buy selling the low end model for $1699.99 I'm curious if there is a resource for purchasing z series parts like the 1920 x 1080 screen from the international versions (or the $4500 US version). Even if it's a $400 service part it's still worth it.
I'd have no problem replacing the screen and likely able to see the 1600x900 on ebay for some cash. I just haven't seen a place for Sony parts
The FW has a CCFL screen even if it's hi-color, full hd, right?
Notebook check says it's 357 nits! Is that really the case, b/c I thought the Sony Z would have the best screen and it was something like 280 nits. 357 is just ridiculously bright and the brightest that I've ever heard of.
1920x1080 hi-color screen vs the Sony Z's screen?
Is it audible when surfing the web, etc and not under load?
As others with x230's have found, I have an issue with the screen fading/graying out then developing vertical lines over the entire screen. Pressing the screen bottom screen border resolves it for a split second then it occurs again, though resolves usually after pressing it at various points along the plastic lower edge maybe 3-6 times, sometimes with slight flickering of whites after. I bought it on ebay so don't have any warranty information, unfortunately. It appears to be the LCD connector or cable. Is it possible to open it up and fix that somehow, or should I buy an IPS screen (the current screen isn't IPS I believe) and replace it myself?
is the sony FW35V(customizable) on the sony style uk site a 1920x1080 a dual lamp LCD?
it says 16.4" H1080 WXGA++ (1920 x 1080) Widescreen X-black LCD screen with built-in "Motion Eye" Digital Camera, but is it a 1920x1080 dual lamp, multiple lamp(how many?) orr single lamp? make sure its the fw35v not the fw35x. the fw35v is the one that costs £60 to upgrade the screen. the fw35x says HD1080 (1920x1080) X-black LCD with multiple lamp, which im guessing is a dual lamp LCD right? also is the Dual lamp worth it for £60?
what does it do? give brighter?, sharper?, more deep and rich colours? or something else?
I am considering some laptops and the sony vaio is one of them. I have heard great things about the screen but it is glossy, something I have sworn off all these years. I have seeing reflections on my screen. how the anti-reflective screen performs?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy SZ430 has been a workhorse for me for 3+ years and I m now looking into the replacement of either Z or Y series....
Problem I have is I have 2 docking stations for my SZ in my home and office and would like to know if I can reuse those for the new Z or Y series.
I just bought a brand new Sony Vaio VPCF11M1E and I have the following problem:
Because in normal stand the screen is very small, I enlarged it to x150%. Everything becomes bigger, but the following parts are blurry and absolutely not sharp:
-Pop ups, of programs and of windows itself (like advanced settings of something and then a new windows pops up, that one is then totally blurry; you can read it, but it is not the good resolution)
-Google chrome (and with that, all the internet pages)
-The google chrome on the desktop is also very blurry, while all the others, are still sharp (after the enlargement by 150%)
I have tried everything (32 bits colours is on, cleartype is on). I also did a system restore to the first days I bought the laptop and then it was on 100% so the resolution was excellent, but then I put it on 150% and again, the parts I mentioned above, were blurry.
the fw series can be purchased with either the
16.4" VAIO Display (1600x900) or the
16.4" VAIO extra-wide HD display (1920x1080)
How much smaller is the text on the true HD screen? I will be using the laptop for charts so more pixels means more screen real estate means more charts. But if the text is difficult to read, then it is counterproductive.
Seeing the gridlines on the charts is also important so if I need a magnifying glass to see what's going on, then the TRUE HD screen is not worth it
Still looking actively for a 11" Vaio laptop. Is TZ LCD screen sharper and crisper than TT LCD Screen ?

View 10 Replies View RelatedWhenever I play a videogame (WoW mostly) or run a directx 3d diagnostic the computer freezes up and I get either of two results: one is a "no signal" message from my monitor (lcd screen that I route my screen on, the laptop screen is disabled) or it recovers a few seconds later with a VPU error. it recovers only about 5% of the time, almost always it's the no signal.
I tried installing new drivers, downloading all possible updates, new directx and no luck.
this does not happen every time by the way, and not always when i start the game. sometimes i get no error for hours, sometimes i get one as soon as the game starts.
the only solution that i can come up with at the moment is a hard reset of the system.
I've talked to HP online professional chat service and they told me something completely... useless... for the lack of the better term. something about some games not being compatible with some operating systems...and yeah, i can do everything else.. surf the web, play movies, leave the pc on for hours at a time and no errors, doesn't matter if it's just been started up after 24 hours of rest or if it's hot after 3 hours of a movie, the errors are always there. it's a zd8000 series laptop.
