why the BIOS version R3220Y1 on the Sony support site is dated 10/13/2009. I downloaded the same version off the site several weeks ago so I am wondering why it is dated only 4 days ago.

I'm buying one or the other. My next computer will run OSX, that is the only thing I have set in stone.
13" MBP over 13" MB:
SD Card reader
(This would be nice, but I can do without. I only use the reader on my current laptop like once every 2 months)
FireWire 800
(Absolutely no need for this)
Backlit Keyboard
(Absolutely no need for this, people look at their keyboard while typing?)
Screen Color Gamut
(60% more than that of MB I heard ... I know this applies to the older MB but not sure about the late 2009 MB. Can anyone comment on the difference?)...................

Intel and nvidia are currently in legal battles. nvidia wants to make chipsets for Intel Core i3,5,7 and think they have the legal right to, but Intel denies that saying their previous rights end with the Core 2 Duos...
until this is settled, nvidia cannot make chipsets for anything newer than Core 2 Duos.
Apple wanted to refresh the Macbook Pros... just refresh, not a major change. This means, keeping the same design and adding in new parts. There is not enough space in there to fit as well as cool a discrete GPU, they must use an integrated. A future remodel job might be in the next update, but the current shape and size casing stands.
So Apple had to decide between two choices.
Upgrade to a Core i3,5,7 and use Intel HD graphics... which would be a much better processor with MUCH worse graphics.. even worse than the still selling standard Macbook...
or
Keep Core 2 Duos and upgrade the chipset to a better chipset from nvidia and be able to still use nvidia integrated graphics, and get graphics that are leagues better than the Intel HD.................

Coming from a PC I guess this is a review on Mac OS X and the new Pro.
I had on many occasions for the past 5 months been playing with Macs, at school in the comp lab, and in BB and the Apple Store. So I knew what I was getting into.
This decision was hard for me being a PC user, and seeing laptops for 4-600 dollars cheaper with similar "specs" I had also not long ago built my Phenom II 955 BE Gaming rig, after OC it a bit I feel I am fairly well versed in the PC realm.
Anyways I decided to take the plunge into something new. I decided for the 13 b/c of battery life mostly, and b/c the 15 is too much money with the apple care. I am only using it for school, and any intensive photo editing goes to PS CS4 on the PC. The 15 MBP would likely not be as fast as the PC so I opted for battery life over speed. Although I would have liked the extra real estate.
I am Glad I made this decision. The 13 is very fast, I got the base model 2.4Ghz. I am actually surprised with how seamless I can move through all the windows, dashboards and spaces. I filled my dashboard up and it isnt slow at all, I have 4 spaces and when I am running apps (Safari, Chrome, QT, Pages, Keynote, iTunes, etc.) in all of them there isnt any lag. Obviously there is some getting used to, but overall its pretty easy and straight forward, and best of all it just works....

What is the probability that the next refreshed MBP will have a high res screen as an option. At least 1680x1050. I really want to buy a MBP before end of the year, but I would definitely wait if the new models have high res screens. But, who knows when the new models will be released.

This is weird, only just noticed it. The dv7t is not really a dv7t anymore. Its screen ratio has changed. And is now available with ATI HD45xx and 46xx GPUs. Oh and, Quad Core Intel CPUs.

My CPU is reporting temps between 57c - 66c (135f -150f) at 10% CPU Usage. I'm using Istat Pro to monitor. I live in Singapore of course so i'm sure the climate contributes to this. But I get those temps even when I have the aircon on. Is there something wrong with my unit?

I'm looking to upgrade from my early 2008 macbook pro 15, which has a 1440x900 screen. I now want to upgrade to the new unibody 15 inch model. I want to get the base model starting at 1699, but i realise that it has the 9400 GPU. Since the high end 13inch with these same specs only has a 1280x800 screen, will the 15 inch with the same spec GPU have a better screen rez, or will it be the same as the high end 13inch MBP.

Hewlett-Packard expands its Mini (netbook) "information snacking (HP Press)" series with 3 new models, eta summer 2009
. Mini 110 XP Edition,
. Mini 110 Mi Edition
. Mini 1101.
The Minis are of light weight (2+lbs) with a 10.1" screen, and offer buyers a choice between 1.6ghz N270 or 1.66GHz N280 Intel Atom.
The Mini 110 XP Edition comes with:
. up to 1 GB RAM (I don't understand why they just say 1gigo period?)
. 32GB SSD or 160GB HHD - after the find that SSD in netbook are "slow" I think I will stick with the traditional HDD unless HP can state otherwise )
. optional (why optional?) W-WAN.
. optional Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video Accelerator, for a 1080HD video experience. HP expects this optional feature to be available in July. I am writing up a small post on this Broadcom Crystal HD enhanced shortly, or if anyone care to jump in first (?)
. choice of "Black Swirl", "Pink Chic" and "White Swirl" looks.
The Mini 110 Mi Edition aka “mobile companion” device dashboard can launch Web browsing apps, e-mail, online video enjoyment. HP claims that this would minimize start-up time. The dashboard can be customized to add most used functions...

I just wanted to know if this is normal. In XP, my early 2009 macbook (check my sig) only downclocks the processor to 1.59GHz (from 2.0GHz) in power saver mode. My 2008 macbook (intel) would downclock to 800MHz (from 2.1GHz). That just doesn't seem right, is that normal? Just doesn't seem like much of a power saver to me.

I have the base model of the 13" MBP.
I upgraded the hdd to a 500gb WD Scorpio Blue.
I want to upgrade the ram as well. However, I have just found out that not all ram would be compatible with Macs? Is this true?
Anyway, I was looking at this:

Do you think this will work?
Or this:

I need to order it in the UK and play.com is easier for me as they have free shipping and I order a lot of stuff from them.
Any easy site to order good and compatible memory from?
I am looking for 2x2GB DDR3 sticks compatible with the new MBP 13".

I just got my 4GB crucial kit in today, 2x2GB 800MHz DDR2. Since the new white macbook update just came out (2.13GHz), and it reportedly supports 800MHz RAM, I decided to try and upgrade mine (2.0GHz model). I just wanted to report that my macbook recognizes it no problem, and reports the speed at 800MHz.

I have heard some crying earlier from within the Dell message board, so let me clarify this now... I do not have a camera rite now, nor any pictures to compare or to post to this thread.... but here goes:
The Studio XPS is processor is Intel® Core™ i7-820QM
with Edge-to-edge Glossy 16.0 inch Full HD RGB-LED LCD display (1080p)!
We are comparing the screen of the Dell 1645 to a Macbook Pro and an iMac... the results are sad. 1645 displays notably better than both of these Macs, but red and green are displayed slightly off.
Here are the images we are comparing on each screen that are loaded in seperate tabs:
some recent pictures from my buddy michaels wedding:

I am VERY HAPPY to report that blacks display far better on the 1645 than a 2009 Macbook Pro or the iMac. When viewing photo intensive websites, the 1645 is really gripping our attention (all things being equal such as brightness set to max, etc.)

I've got some questions.
1) how much is the maximum capacity of the new battery? I'm getting 5500mAh per full charge... is this correct?
2) "if you intend to keep your laptop plugged for a long time, remove the battery" Ok. So how do I follow this rule if the battery is built-in? ahhahaha!
3) Apple says to recalibrate the battery once a month... but how often is it good to unplug? once a day? once a week?
4) at what percentage should I plug the laptop back in if i'm NOT recalibrating?

I am going to buying one of these in Canada and will take the basic 2.8ghz model with no upgrades. I would however like to get 8gb of ram because I will be doing lots of multi-tasking and some 3d work in windows. Obviously I will not pay apple's crazy prices. I know you can buy "generic" ram for the laptop and was wondering if you know what ram I can use and if you know of any good deals? If I sell the mac ram and only user "generic" ram will my warranty be voided?

I'm considering buying the model stated in this thread title. I know that the processor is an older T9600 model and not the more efficient P9700. What I would like to know from those of you who have this model is; do your notebooks run a lot hotter (and therefore noisier?) with this processor?
This would be my first Mac so I just want to understand how a particular advertised GPU feature in PCs translate to Macs; PC manufacturers state that their computers have graphics cards with (for instance) "512mb dedicated memory with up to 1791mb shared." If I understand this correctly the PC GPUs take memory from the RAM and that's what the "Shared" bit is. The Mac website doesn't mention anything about "shared" memory so how does this apply to macs? Sorry if this last question seems a bit remedial.
