Apple :: New Refreshed MBP's Screen Resolution
Dec 15, 2009
What is the probability that the next refreshed MBP will have a high res screen as an option. At least 1680x1050. I really want to buy a MBP before end of the year, but I would definitely wait if the new models have high res screens. But, who knows when the new models will be released.

Intel and nvidia are currently in legal battles. nvidia wants to make chipsets for Intel Core i3,5,7 and think they have the legal right to, but Intel denies that saying their previous rights end with the Core 2 Duos...
until this is settled, nvidia cannot make chipsets for anything newer than Core 2 Duos.
Apple wanted to refresh the Macbook Pros... just refresh, not a major change. This means, keeping the same design and adding in new parts. There is not enough space in there to fit as well as cool a discrete GPU, they must use an integrated. A future remodel job might be in the next update, but the current shape and size casing stands.
So Apple had to decide between two choices.
Upgrade to a Core i3,5,7 and use Intel HD graphics... which would be a much better processor with MUCH worse graphics.. even worse than the still selling standard Macbook...
or
Keep Core 2 Duos and upgrade the chipset to a better chipset from nvidia and be able to still use nvidia integrated graphics, and get graphics that are leagues better than the Intel HD.................

Coming from a PC I guess this is a review on Mac OS X and the new Pro.
I had on many occasions for the past 5 months been playing with Macs, at school in the comp lab, and in BB and the Apple Store. So I knew what I was getting into.
This decision was hard for me being a PC user, and seeing laptops for 4-600 dollars cheaper with similar "specs" I had also not long ago built my Phenom II 955 BE Gaming rig, after OC it a bit I feel I am fairly well versed in the PC realm.
Anyways I decided to take the plunge into something new. I decided for the 13 b/c of battery life mostly, and b/c the 15 is too much money with the apple care. I am only using it for school, and any intensive photo editing goes to PS CS4 on the PC. The 15 MBP would likely not be as fast as the PC so I opted for battery life over speed. Although I would have liked the extra real estate.
I am Glad I made this decision. The 13 is very fast, I got the base model 2.4Ghz. I am actually surprised with how seamless I can move through all the windows, dashboards and spaces. I filled my dashboard up and it isnt slow at all, I have 4 spaces and when I am running apps (Safari, Chrome, QT, Pages, Keynote, iTunes, etc.) in all of them there isnt any lag. Obviously there is some getting used to, but overall its pretty easy and straight forward, and best of all it just works....

This is weird, only just noticed it. The dv7t is not really a dv7t anymore. Its screen ratio has changed. And is now available with ATI HD45xx and 46xx GPUs. Oh and, Quad Core Intel CPUs.

I'm thinking of purchasing a 15" MBP and am debating between the standard screen and the high resolution screen. I had a studio xps 16 with the 1080p screen and though it looked great so I would ideally like to get the high resolution screen. However, I wanted to see if I could get some opinions on the readability of the screen, is text readable? Does Mac OS contain a feature like Win 7 where you can increase the text size? I really liked the look and extra space higher resolution screens offer but did notice on the studio xps that without increasing the text size text (which it did by default) text and menus were too small. What are your opinions on the macbook's high resolution screen, which do you prefer?

I just bought a brand new Sony Vaio VPCF11M1E and I have the following problem:
Because in normal stand the screen is very small, I enlarged it to x150%. Everything becomes bigger, but the following parts are blurry and absolutely not sharp:
-Pop ups, of programs and of windows itself (like advanced settings of something and then a new windows pops up, that one is then totally blurry; you can read it, but it is not the good resolution)
-Google chrome (and with that, all the internet pages)
-The google chrome on the desktop is also very blurry, while all the others, are still sharp (after the enlargement by 150%)
I have tried everything (32 bits colours is on, cleartype is on). I also did a system restore to the first days I bought the laptop and then it was on 100% so the resolution was excellent, but then I put it on 150% and again, the parts I mentioned above, were blurry.

I just got my new Studio XPS 1640 in the mail today and got a little excited. I started tweaking stuff galore, following the variety of vista tweaking thread for reducing boot time, speeding up your comp etc... but I think I must have screwed something up because the computer started lagging like crazy. i couldn't even navigate in "My Computer"
So me, being all excited and dumb decided that I would reinstall Vista and partition my C drive (which is a 256gb SSD btw, if that's important), instead of learning about the Factory Image Restore.
So now my screen resolution sucks, and I'm frustrated and tired of trying to fix this. I just want it back to how it was before, fresh out of the box. I have the Vista CD and The Driver CD, and I tried installing every damned driver and application and whatever, but it's never the same as it came out of the box.
I can't find the webcam or facial recognition software anywhere and I'm missing the cool dock at the top and bleh. I'll stop ranting, but if anyone. ANYONE, knows how to help me I would greatly appreciate it. I just want the good laptop that I paid 2000$ for.

Is it just me or does the font on the MacBook/MacBook Pro's seem a little blurrier than on a PC. It seems to have sort of a shadow or is blurry around the edges of the fonts?
I thought I read about this once, where the idea behind Apples OS is to make the fonts appear exactly on the screen as they do when printed?

question concerning the WUXGA screen on the 17" macbook pro. The questions may sound pretty basic, but I've only got experience with 1280*800 =)
Can i put the resolution of the screen on, let's say 1440*900 if i chose to? Or is it really THAT resolution (1920*1200) that is supported only?
In the case it is possible: does it look like a normal 17" screen with a native resolution of 1440*900
In the case that it is not possible: how small are the letters? I looked at a 15.4 inch screen with 1680*...? and i thought it was pretty OK. Is it comparable with a 17" 1920*1200?
Most of the time the laptop will be used for programming, and a game from time to time (but from experience i know games can be set on lower resolutions, resulting in ugly stuff, just the way i like it).

I'm looking for a 24'' external monitor and was interested in one by Asus:
[url]
Well, technically it's 23.6''...But I noticed the resolution is 1920 x 1080, meaning it is 16:9. I know my MBP has a resolution of 1440x900 making it 16:10. I understand that most widescreen TV's use 16:9, however widescreen laptops use 16:10. Will connecting a 16:9 external monitor to my Macbook Pro have any problems?

Currently i have my screen resolution at 1200x800 and i find it too sharp, the one below that 1280x720 is too squashed and too sharp, the one lower from that is too blurry, but perfect proportions (1024x768)
is there any way i can change to a one in between or something.

I just bought a Latitude E6500 with a WUXGA LCD with Nvidia NVS 160M to replace my old Inspiron 8600 also with WUXGA screen.
I am puzzled with one thing : with my old 8600 I was able to change resolution from 1920X1200 way back to 800X600 without any loss of quality. The screen always ramained crisp and clear.
Now, with my new E6500, anything less than 1920 X 1200 gets fuzzy. I read all about the "native resolution" speach, but what I can't understand is why the old laptop was able to show all resolutions properly, and the new on doesn't.

Had my Acer Aspire 8930 for 11 months now and I've always assumed it displayed images at 1920 x 1080 because of the blu ray drive and the fact it has a sticker on the front of the laptop which says 'FULL HD 1080 PLAYBACK'.
I've just gone into my display settings and it says 1680 x 945!
That is on the highest setting possible.
The sticker on the side of the box it came in says;
Aspire 8930G - 584G32Bn which according to [url] states at the top in the summary it boasts 1920 x 1080.
How can the sticker on my laptop claim full HD at 1080? Do I have the wrong screen on my laptop or am I missing something?

I know the resolution on the new 13" pros is 1280x800, so if I plugged it into an external monitor of a higher resolution, 1920x1080 for example, would the image on the monitor be shown at that resolution, or would it still be the same res as the macbook pro, meaning it would be really pixelated on the monitor?

I just want to know if games (world of warcraft mainly) look good in 1680 by 1050 resolution, and not fuzzy or distorted.
My current laptop is a vostro 1700 with a 1440 by 900 resolution and if i use any resolution below that resolution, games dont look too sharp.

There is no configurable screen and the tech specs don't say other than "HD" which most people use for 1366x768.
Has anyone been able to confirm the screen resolution on the new Vostro 2500 series or 3400?
Any idea on how long it takes them to make it a bit more configurable?

I'm having some trouble with my m6400, but I'm not sure if its a Dell problem or my gfx card or Windows Vista itself.
Whenever I start my laptop the screen resolution gets reset to 1024x768, and I need to manually re-configure my screen.
Does anyone have an idea why this may be?

My XPS 1730 has a couple of issues I can't seem to resolve. I just updated the bios to the latest version but that didn't help. If I set my clock to 9:45, it will run until 10:38 and then revert back to 9:45. It will do this endlessly. When I installed the new bios, I got a message say the RTC was fixed as I might have a clock problem. The clock ran last night for about 4 hours properly. Then I closed the lid. When I opened it this morning, the clock displayed the same time as when I closed it last night.
In addition, when I leave the computer on and just close the lid, the resolution goes from the highest (my preference) to the lowest when I open the lid again.
I have a new battery in the machine as well as it was left on last night with the power cord plugged in. All I did was close the lid.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm set on getting a 1080p display in my next laptop and so far, Sony has the best choices! This is coming from someone who has purchased or influenced the purchase of about 17-18 Dell laptops.

thinking of getting the Vaio Z but still cannot decide which resolution to go for (1366x768 or 1600x900). I've got some pics that should help you guys out. Unfortunately, I do not have any side by side comparison photos between the 2 of them. Furthermore, I do apologize for my very poor camera & photography skills.
One thing to take note of is that for both Vaio Z, all the setting are in their "default" values (Default screen resolution, 96 DPI, etc.)
For all the pairs of photos:
Left - 1366x768
Right - 1600x900
