why the BIOS version R3220Y1 on the Sony support site is dated 10/13/2009. I downloaded the same version off the site several weeks ago so I am wondering why it is dated only 4 days ago.
View 3 RepliesI am a college student looking to purchase the SR series VAIO notebook. On the Sony Style site they list two SR models the 490 and the 420. Both have the same exact configurations except that the 420 says that it has a much smaller projected battery life than the 490. Does anyone one if there is a hardware difference between these two notebooks to account for this difference? Or is this just a typo?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo my brand new SR490 is already having some weird power issue. What happens is, the adapter stops powering the computer. This started happening randomly last week. I would be sitting there on the computer, and the screen would dim (I have it set to do this when it goes onto battery power).
I would move the adapter around, make sure it's plugged in right, but that didn't change anything. After a few minutes,
it would switch back to AC power by itself. It was worse last night, when the battery actually died because it wasn't getting a charge. The computer was just sitting on the desk and it kept switching between AC power and the battery .....
I just bought a Macbook Pro (8 days ago) with iLife 2008 on it. I contacted Apple and they said an email with a link to download the update file would be sent. Anyone have similar experiences regarding updates ?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a sony vaio vgn-ns290j laptop and i was told I needed to do a bios update..well i downloaded the bios driver from the sony website..started doing the update..and mid way through the laptop blue screened. Now when I go to turn it on it gets power but does not post..Is there a way I can reset it back to the default..?? why does sony offer a driver that bricks your motherboard?

My concern is there might be some hardware issues that might compromise the performance of the laptop given the fact that my model is an older one.
if you have the S series from Best buy there is a new bios update that it says should fix the buzz.

Sony identified the problem as some bugs in BIOS firmware and hence released an update to fix this.

As a "side effect" some customers noticed that Sony has officially enabled the option of VT in BIOS settings!
This is quite unbelievable according to the usual style of Sony. Maybe it is because of the pressure from XP mode in the upcoming Windows 7.
Unfortunately the BIOS update still does not give SLIC 2.1 so to activate Windows 7 we still need SLIC 2.1 from Lenovo or other brands.
i've decided to put off both the vaio z and dell xps 1340 because neither really do it for me. it's been a while since
i've heard anything about the vaio sr, however. could it be that they might update it to make for the student market 2009.....

I have a SONY VIAO VGN-SZ433N_B. I'm constantly reminded that there are new updates for my lap top, but when I try to install I am told 'VAIO Update 4.0 is required. VAIO Update (Ver. 4.0 and above) is required on your VAIO Notebook.'
So I installed Sony Update 4.0.0.08240 but still it isnt recognised. I have even tried to uninstall the previous Update module and then re install without success. I keep getting the same message, indicating that the Viao Update 4 I have isnt being recognised.

im trying to update my BIOS on my 8930G from 1.10 to 1.13 (or maybe even 1.14). Im only doing this as id like to enable VT but the only info i can find is related to 1.13.
Now ive downloaded the BIOS package from Acer and have tried to run the Insyde flash utility (x64 on Win7) but it wont install. After a few seconds it comes up with;
'BIOS not for your notebook'
In the Insyde application window i can can see the following info;
Current BIOS ID - 8930 & Version V1.13
New BIOS ID - KM2/TT2 & Version V1.14

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Acer Aspire 5315 and was running Bios v1.33. It has been running warm for sometime and thought an updated BIOS would help.
I tried the ACER site but didn't see any BIOS updates listed for XP. I have XP Pro on it now.
I followed a different link and found BIOS 1.45 so i Flashed it using WinFlash.
After it completed it shut down, i waited a couple of min. and powered back up, when i did i saw the BSOD for about 2 seconds and then goes to selective startup (Normal, Safe, Safe w/networking etc...)
I have not tried safe mode yet but in normal it just goes back to that screen again.
I saw the thread on using the FN+ESC mode but not sure if i really need to do that.
what I should do to restore it back to 1.33? I have to check my external HD but i think i still have that 1.33 version saved that i used when i did it the first time.

HP has posted a BIOS update on their website for the DV6-2190US laptop. The update is listed as F.1AA and claims to "improve system fan behavior". This laptop has a quad core I7, 720 QM clarksfield processor so anything to better control heat would be good to consider. I am usually never hesitiant to update a BIOS, even on the numerous laptops I have owned, but....I have noticed HP had some of their BIOS updates bricking their laptop lately.
Has anyone flashed their DV6-2190 with this update yet?
I have recently decided to upgrade my RAM from 2GB to 4GB. After installing, I booted up my computer to find that it would not recognize the new memory. After doing a bit of troubleshooting, I decided to try and update the BIOS, as the version was from 2010. I downloaded the BIOS update boot CD application from lenovo, burned a disc, and on reboot I found that the boot order did not have CD listed on it. Here's the catch: I don't have the supervisor password. This is a hand-me-down laptop, and I have tried to find the password to no avail. This is the current boot order: USB drive, Hard drive.
My question is, can I either create a BIOS update disc using a USB, or update the BIOS some other way?
I understand that it is impossible to recover the supervisor password without having it serviced (which I would rather not do, even if I have to send my RAM back to Crucial)

i even mailed micheal dell regarding the issue of cpu staying at 930mhz or at multiplexer 7 at most of time..
they say that they are gonna fix this in the next update which is scheduled to be released with in jan15th...
i bet even though updating the bios wont help in boosting the performance without enough power...
they say that they are also considering about the 130W adapters...

and I had some troubles configuring my graphic cards in SLI mode. I read somewhere, that BIOS upgrade from A07, which I have, to A11 will help with this problem.
I downloaded A11 BIOS update, but the setup wont recognize my current BIOS. When I load into the BIOS I see, that its really rev. A07, also it has header from Dell inc.
