I am upgrading my Sr490 to windows 7. I was wondering what software I have to download and what drivers. I am also looking for the one click check up and vaiocare stuff that came with the sr490 originally.
how loud people think their SR is.
I am a college student looking to purchase the SR series VAIO notebook. On the Sony Style site they list two SR models the 490 and the 420. Both have the same exact configurations except that the 420 says that it has a much smaller projected battery life than the 490. Does anyone one if there is a hardware difference between these two notebooks to account for this difference? Or is this just a typo?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo my brand new SR490 is already having some weird power issue. What happens is, the adapter stops powering the computer. This started happening randomly last week. I would be sitting there on the computer, and the screen would dim (I have it set to do this when it goes onto battery power).
I would move the adapter around, make sure it's plugged in right, but that didn't change anything. After a few minutes,
it would switch back to AC power by itself. It was worse last night, when the battery actually died because it wasn't getting a charge. The computer was just sitting on the desk and it kept switching between AC power and the battery .....
why the BIOS version R3220Y1 on the Sony support site is dated 10/13/2009. I downloaded the same version off the site several weeks ago so I am wondering why it is dated only 4 days ago.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Touchsmart 15-j040us notebook that is now a little over a year old (now out of warranty). My laptop has been asking to upgrade to Windows 8.1 since the first week or two after I purchased the system brand new.
The update downloads just fine and begins the install but fails every time when it is trying to install the different devices. At that point the screen goes black, the laptop reboots and I get an error message saying that update did not work and that the system has been restored to its previous condition.
After working through HP tech support, including sending the laptop to them to reimage, I am still unable to perform the update, which means my laptop is incapable of running the apps and programs that HP says my laptop is ready to run.
I am fairly confident that the issue is the Nvidia video driver. The currently supported version (version 9.xxx) of the driver is not compatible with 8.1. HP has a driver listed that is compatible with 8.1 (version 10.xxx), but I can't download it until my laptop is running 8.1. Nvidia has posted on the site a driver that is compatible with both operating systems, but I can't seem to download and install it so that I can perform the update. How to download the driver from Nvidia so that I can perform this update?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have the Sony Vaio VGN-FZ21Z with Vista Home Premium. Recently whenever i try to download files from the internet it brings up a box saying do you want to open, save or cancel. I have tried both open and save, it does sometimes ask me if i want to run it and i press run. It then act as though its tryng to download the file, it then goes off once downloaded and never does anything else. Its sending me nuts as i have tried everything. I tried a system restore as i thought id done something i shouldnt have, ive tried deleting all temporary files and ive just got to the point now where i have ran out.

I attempted to upgrade my Win 8.1 ENVY DV7-7230US laptop to Win 8.1 via the App store. It said I had to clear all the updates first. So I went the System Updates Screen. When I clicked on it to see what updates were needed. The circling wait symbol appeared and never went away. I can not do any system updates, thus I can not download and install the FREE Win8.1 upgrade.
View 6 Replies View RelatedHave an HP DV8110us Pavilion notebook purchased in 2006. Running XP SP3. Upgrading to Windows 7 with a clean install. Ran the MS Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. This notebook has the AMD Turion 64-bit chip running at 1.8 mhz. I have 2 GB memory. Looking through the Win7 options, I decided to order Win7 32-bit, since I'm only carrying 2 GB of memory. Win 7 64-bit seems to be happier with 4 GB. While the Advisor shows I have some drivers that need updating after Window 7 is installed, I just noticed that the Realtex RTL8139/810x NIC needs a new driver for 32-bit Win7, but under 64-bit Win7, the NIC is compatible.
Should I have ordered the 64-bit Win7 ? Or should I look around for a new Realtek driver ? Realtex has a link to an old Vista driver that should work. Other searches suggest that a workable driver might be on the Win7 DVD.
I have a E1505 (6400) and I was running Vista 32 bit with 2 x 1 gb ram. I bought 2 x 2 gb ram, and it caused all sorts of problems.
I took the opportunity to upgrade to 64 bit with Windows 7 (clean install), and I reinstalled my 2 x 2 gb of RAM. It seems to be running smoothly so far... But only 3.25 gb is recognized as "usable" in Windows and my BIOS.
Does anyone know any settings I need to change or if there is a different BIOS for 64 bit OS's?
I did some googleing and found some recommendations for updating the BIOS if RAM that should be usable is not.
I have an Acer Aspire 5920G with Vista premium 32bit and was wanting to upgrade to Windows 7 (through MSDNAA) but wasn't too sure about it. I take it I can still download all the Acer eNet management etc software as well as everything else that came with my laptop to use in W7?

I've finally recieved my windows 7 disk from HP
But before I go and upgrade/install everything I have a few questions.
1. Am I able to do a clean install? Does the product key in the kit allow for me to do this?
2. How would I go about doing a clean install properly? (paranoid about mucking things up)
3. After doing a clean install, am I able to use the second disk to update the drivers, etc. or can I only use it when doing the upgrade option?
