i have a acer 4920, when i go to type an email address there's no @ i know shift + 2 when i do this i get " am i doing something wrong here. the language is set to english and all the other icons work.

I have a brand new acer aspire E 11 that i truly want to smash to pieces with a hammer. no kidding. I haven't even been able to use it. it's locked and i cant fix it. when i go to log in on it the first page has my name and Correct email address. then i'm supposed to put in a password. i haven't set up a password for it yet. i havent been able to even get past the log in page. when i put in a password then i am on a page that says "you PC is offline. please sign in with the last password used on this pc." I havent Used a password on this pc. i havent gotten far enough to Set one. how can i bypass this page and set a password. actually i dont even need for it to ever be locked.
View 2 Replies View RelatedUpdated the bios in a Aspire 7740g from version 1.15 to 1.16 but with poor result. It flashed everything correctly, but when rebooting, nothing... Black screen.
The fan starts and stops after a few seconds, led's indicating that it's "alive", and I've tried the crisis recovery tool with bios 1.15 or 1.16. First with USB-drive (tried all ports), then on a CD-R. No sign of activity on the USB, but the CD-R spins up, head reading and can hear it working for 30-60 sec., rebooting, but then - nothing.
I have tried all key-commands, suggested on the net. Win+ESC, Win+B, Fn+ESC, Fn+B, but - nothing. (Power off, plug and battery removed, hold keys down, power connected and power on.....)
The battery is dead and removed, but it doesn't seem as it matters anyway?
What kind of bios does this Aspire have? Any other key-commands I should try? It seems as the Recovery Boot Block is there somehow, as the CD/DVD-drive spins up and sounds as it's working.
no spekaer or headphone plugged in .. show x icon at my speaker there..

A lot of times it would shut off by itself. I now realize that it might be the dust bunnies that needed cleaning.
Thank you dell for pointing that out(sarcasm).... Now my lappy will only show the windows sign on bootup and go black after that.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI woke up this morning and tried to turn en my laptop but nothing happened, I checked the AC adapter and it was working well, same as the batery, since I was using it last night with no problems. After a bit of research I managed to do an electrostatic discharge unplugging everything attached to my laptop, removing the AC adapter and the battery, and pressing the power button for about a minute, past that minute I plugged the AC adapter and pressed the power button, it turned on for about a second, it was pretty much a blink. Then everything was the same. I tried discharging again, several times, without success.

I have one problem though, when I try to connect to my home network, it says im connected but I can't go on the internet or sign into msn anything related to connecting to the internet i cant do. I disconnect and reconnect and it only sometimes work. This also happens when I close the lid~put the computer to sleep and i turn in bk on again, it connects to my home network by itself but still I can't go on the internet.

I love the Acer, just not its keyboard and miss the thinkpad keyboard - which really encourages typing. The acer really doesn't.
If the thinkpad keyboard isn't possible, what else might be?
I currently have an AA1 and am curious to those who tried typing on both the HP Mini and the AA1 keyboards and noticed a difference. I believe the HP's keyboard is 92% and the AA1's is 89% I believe. It feels "okay" to type on, obviously not the best due to its size compared to a normal keyboard, but am wondering if the HP's is worth the price jump (paid 300 for mine).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had my MBP for about 4 month now and have been having problems with its keyboard since I bought it. First, the "Z" key sank in (I think there was a problem with the spring). I took it to the Apple Store, and they "fixed" on the spot (it's much harder to press and only registered a key press 70% of the time). The lower right corner of the "E" has noticeably sunk in, and I need to resort to pressing the upper left corner. Also, the left side of the keyboard feels "mushy", not hugely so, but definitely noticeable after typing a few sentences. Can I request that Apple just replace the entire keyboard instead of just individual keys?

There's no way it can't keep up with me, I mean I type fast.. roughly 100-120wpm, but not THAT fast? Other keyboard(s) have no problem catching me, it's just this Acer one seems to be laggy at times.
This time around though, I have noticed that after I installed the Synaptics driver, it started happening. I wonder if it's related?

From what I've read around here the black keyboard on the Dell Vostro 1400 (PN JM629) fits on the XPS m1330 and now I'm looking to buy it.
The problem is, this keyboard costs $49.99 on Dell. I have found it on ebay for $16 shipped on ebay, but the thing is, the ebay listing says:

I have a problem with my keyboard. I think I've been unlucky enough that something has gotten under my 3 and t keys. Not just sitting underneath but in the mechanism itself it would seem. They still work, but they are stiff and I really have to press them to get them to respond. Is there anything I can try to fix it that won't require me to void my warranty or take it to get fixed?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was considering getting Acer AS1810T-8638. However, I looked up keyboard layout, some pictures show back-slash () not above enter key, but next to left shift key. (left shift key's length is shortened by half)
Some other pictures show it at where it should be (above enter key).
Since I use back-slash a lot, I need it to be at the right place.
Can anyone who bought this model tell me where is key is located on models being shipped currently?
My Acer 6935G's key "U" popped out, tried putting it back in but it doesn't work, something might be broken. So a friend brought super glue and we tried to glue it. It was okey first, but it got quite, loose, so we took it off and glued it back again, but this time it wasn't working well, you press it and nothing happens but in the laptop the U will be continuesly typed, like someone holding U.
So its not just the key that's broken, its the thing below it. Is it possible if I send it to a service shop to scrape it off and put on a new one? If so how much it will cost?
BTW, its still under Warranty.
my seven week old son decided to vomit across my Acer 5920 laptop yesterday.
The laptop still boots but I can't login as some of the keys are stuck.
I've downloaded the service manual but I can't seem to be able to lift the keyboard off. There are four areas to prize open just below the speaker but I can't work out how to do it - do they push in or lift up?
Do I take out the tray it's sitting in or prize up each of the keys individually?
I have an annoying problem with my keyboard. If I try to type normally fast some letters wont make it to the screen. Its very annoying in the long run. Sometimes it makes me wanna smash it in pieces.
If I punch the keys accurate one by one its no problem, but its a little slow. Can I fix this with software?
I've just purchased a brand new acer 8935G and I just want to say what a mistake that was so far.I received delivery last Wednesday but the windows 7 upgrade disc was missing,it took me 2 days and loads of calls and emails to get it sent out.It arrived Friday so I unpacked computer and then noticed the back lit keyboard wasn't working. Contacted retailer they said I had to contact acer technical and get a returns number before they could do anything .
So I emailed Acer on Friday and explained as I was about to load windows 7 upgrade onto the computer but on checking it out I noticed the back lit keyboard wasn't working . Got an email back Monday totally unrelated to my question stating as it was a software problem and I had to contact a premium rate number .50 p a minute yeh right
So this morning I tried and tried to get trough to the customer services technical hardware) help line finally got through at .10p a minute and what a carry on. Don,t forget this is a brand new unused 8935G just unpacked . I had to go through about 20 mins of questions with a male who I couldn't understand a word of what he was saying and he definatly couldn't understand me .
In the end I asked for the ref no and he tried & tried to get me to return it for repair he said a week at least! stuff that
So I got back on to the retailer(simplyacer.com) customer services sixth in the cue and waited & waited ,eventually got through and was told ,the returns department would call back within the next 10 mins and they would arrange collection today (11am)
At 3pm still no call ,so I emailed them twice I received a read reply , but no answer and no reply to my question . Back on the phone again and 8th in line ,so I hung up
At 4pm receive a call from the returns department,He asked what the problem was and when I told him he replied Oh I didn't realise the 8935g key board was back lit . I lost it a little I'm afraid, told him to get it sorted I want a new computer not a repaired one . Their collecting tomorrow but I'm not sure what the outcome will be . Am I being unfair on insisting on a new computer with the service I've received so far? or should I insist on a full refund and go somewhere else and buy a different model and tell them to stuff it.
I've got a problem with my 6935G keyboard.I can input all the letters to the right end of the keyboard ie:a,z,e,r,t,y, but when i arrive to"u"when i try to input it instead of the"u" i get "4" which is the number featured on the same key .The same happens to "j"(i get 1),"i"(i get 5),"o"(i get 6) and so on.I know it is somehow locked to "numbers" but i don't know how to unlock it.
