I have an issue with my acer 5520. When I press F2 and enter setup My computer will just shut off! It may take 5 seconds or even up to 20 seconds but I got on to change my login options and it just shut off. I did this several times and it shut off time after time. My computer never turns off when I load windows and run Vista. I don't know if I need to update my bios or what.

I don't know much about computers, but i do enjoy several pc games, and watch a lot of streaming videos. when doing so my computer almost always shuts itself off, even while running games that could hardly be called graphic intensive. I'd thought it might be an overheating issue? but i don't think that's the case.Â
I've also noticed that, within the task manager, the disk will often jump to 100%.

Again, for months after i bought the machine, it worked perfectly fine. many of the programs that it used to run, now cause it to shut down without warning.Â
I've bought a new laptop 1 week ago, and it's running smooth with 1 exception: Everytime I shut the computer down or save energy, it magically forgets it has fans to cool cpu and graphics card. When i try to run a game it will gradually drop fps until it shuts down from overheating. I tried to fully discharge it and disconnect it from the battery to identify the hardware and then set it to standard in the bios, then it works. But the moment I shut down the computer it is the same thing over again. I don't want to do said process everytime I start my laptop..
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy dell inspiron 5520 beeps when I turn it on. It is a series of 4 beeps, 4 beeps and 3 beeps. It shut's down when it's on the battery. When I have it on the mains power after the first three series of beeps it shuts down but 15 seconds later it reboots and continues the beeping, this time it is 4 beeps, 4 beeps, 4 beeps constantly until I turn off the mains supply.
They are short beeps, lasting  for 2 seconds for the 4 beeps. The gap between the series of beeps is also 2 seconds. Recently it has been left in a room that has no heating and it has been quite cold lately, if that has any effect on it.
My inspiron 15r 5520 is 1 year old and now it shuts down suddenly when doing slightly stressful tasks like playing games ,which i didn't encounter in the starting months.
But from week whenever i play a game it shuts down in 10 min .Later i tried few suggestions from dell forums on overheating and found that the laptop runs fine on battery and as soon i plug in the adapter it turns off in 10 min .I checked if it is a overheating problem and found the cores temp at around 60 degrees celsius when idle and it crosses 100 when i play games plugged in and around 95 degrees on battery.
I then checked if its due to dust but everything is clean and i use a cooling pad so this is quite abnormal.
I have all the updated drivers and bios, fresh installed windows again, so what to do...
I have Inspiron 15R 5520 running windows 7 .,. In this model i have 3 hotkeys one for settings the 2nd for multimedia the 3rd is for apps i guess only the setting buttons is working  what should i do ?Â

Now I read a lot about this problem on other forums. Whenever I run the game it crashes after some time and hangs up my computer too. Many think its because the dedicated graphic card (Radeon 7760M).
I have a wireless network setup between my desktop w/xp pro an my laptop w/vista home preminum Acer 5570Z.
My laptop can open drives & folders on my desktop, but my desktop can't open drives or folders on my laptop it says I don't have permission. I fixed this once before but can't remember what I did.
Just received my Aspire 8930 today &, like an idiot, during the OS setup, I accidentally hit the wrong language key. Ended up with a French language OS on the machine.

By googling I've found that HP's used to use Compaq Setup partition to boot bios (?), but this is acer. I would really like to get rid of it (because now I can't create another primary partition).

Few questions if I may....
1.Does it use a regular 2.5 drive and is it easily accessible?
2. I would like to upgrade to Win 64 and wonder if a bios update necessary and, if so, available?
3.Are 64 bit drivers easily obtainable?
4.As I am fm Canada, it will have this terrible bilingual keyboard...Can it be replaced and is it a simple process?
5.Recovery Media... Does it come with a windows 7 reinstall disk? If so, does the disk contain both versions of Win (32bit/64bit) and can either be installed with the same key?
6.If not, are there free versions of 64 bit available on the internet, as was the case with Vista, where one could legally download and use their key for 32 bit successfully?
Where has Acer put the install/setup files for Vista Home Basic on my Aspire 5315 laptop?
They must be on the hard drive *somewhere* or it'd be asking for the Vista disc when I plug things in or install software.
Quick background:
My dad just returned from Afghanistan and is home for a few weeks before he heads back (by home I mean with my mother - i.e. I am not with them so I cannot get my hands on the computer).
He's been using his netbook (Acer Aspire One ZG5) while over there and brought it back with him. It's been working perfectly fine for the last 6 months while he was there, but today when he tried to turn it on to show some pictures to my mom it wouldn't.
The computer would start up fine and begin loading windows. Then it just dies - it just shuts itself off.
The next time, the computer gave them the option to turn it on in safe mode which they tried. Same problem.
They've tried several times and it won't start - it also fails at different times.
Sometimes it almost fully loads windows and other times it shuts off a lot sooner.
I made him open the BIOS which worked fine... for a few seconds and then randomly shut itself off again.
In the past week, my aspire 5315 running vista premium 32bit has been randomly shutting off for what seems like no apparent reason. There's no warning of the shut down, it just turns off. It does this whether connected to the internet or not, and there isn't any one program that's the common denominator. Also, it doesn't boot up successfully every time (maybe 1 out of every 4 attempts). Instead, it just stays on a black screen with a single white blinking horizontal dash (the character two spaces to the left of the backspace button + shift). The computer had started doing this initially when I installed the latest update through Windows Update. I used System Restore and the problem seemed to be fixed. Then the problem started again a couple days later while watching "Lost" on ABC.COM. I ran Windows Defender and it didn't come up with anything.
I've tried running Kaspersky a few times, but the computer shuts down well before the scan is finished (even in safe mode). Any ideas as to what the problem could be?
Have windows 7 installed for past 5 months just recently only when playing poker on facebook the computer will shut down on its own, could this be a Ram isuue, I tried restoring the computer to 2 weeks prior to the issue,
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am one of those where the tightening of the screws didn't work. The screw in question "over-turned" when I wnated to fix it so I do not get my battery running. Then I tried to open the back as you describe. I removed all the screws.... but.... still couldnt open it. The back-panel is somehow else fixed... I can ot remove it. Is there any trick or whatsoever or am I missing something else here?

The first time we experienced this problem I tried removing the battery and I placed the battery back again. I plugged the ac adaptor into another outlet. I was able to get a a greenlight on the battery and on the hard drive. For some reason I am not able to get a greenlight on both indicators. I tried plugging the laptop on another outlet. It seems I'm not able to power it up anymore. Is it the battery or the power adapter?

I have an Aspire 1694wlmi with a 2GHz Pentium M, a Mobility Radeon x700 (256mb) and 1GB of ram. I run Win XP with SP3. I didn't do anything to the comp apart from removing its crappy built-in wlan adapter.
The issue is this: whenever I play any game (even as undemanding as UT99) the laptop just shuts down without warning. This even happens playing 8ballclub's billiards sim in window mode for instance.
The whole thing started happening occasionally a long time ago (with Rome Total War at first). Right now, it happens always and very very soon after starting the game (i.e. less than a minute).
I have noticed that the CPU usage jumps to 100% as soon as I launch the game and stays there until shutdown (but this is supposed to be normal, yes?). Also, I tried stopping all non-essential processes (of which there weren't that many to begin with) and the CPU usage is around 0-4% when idle.
I have also opened the lid and look for dust - none there (neither around the processor nor around the graphics adapter)
I tried updating the ATI drivers, but since the Radeon is included in all Acers, it won't let you update the drivers - and Acer doesn't provide updates either. I have installed the Catalyst Control Center...
People have associated such problems with viruses. I use Avast which finds no viruses (I'm installing Kaspersky next).
Having a puzzling time with my 8930G. Just recently when I shut the system down it goes through the shut-down process as normal. Yet as it shuts down and the screen goes blank, the power button remaims lit as does the CineDash. The laptop has turned itself off, yet these two remain lit?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my laptop (Acer Aspire 5741G).It´s a couple of years old and the battery stopped working a year back and after that I need to use the power cable.Earlier the laptop got really hot sometimes and shut itself down.I have cleaned it inside (I took the laptop apart) and also changed to a SSD drive.Â
After that it worked better for a while but now the same thing have happened again but there are some differences from earlier. IT´S WORSE.Â
1. The laptop doesn´t get hot. It´s almost cold..... I downloaded a program to see the status of the computer and from it I could read from the sensor data that the temperature is between 30-40degC (CPU usage is as low as 0-4% if I just leave it).Â
2. The fan starts directly when I start the computer and goes on 100% all the time (even if I don´t do anything).Â
3. After 3-4 minutes the laptop shut itself down. Even if I go into the BIOS at start-up and just leave it.Â
4. I have cleaned it again and everything but the same thing happens after I have mount it together again.Â
What´s wrong? Can it be the power cable (AC adapter)? But why does the fan behave like this?

It will not boot windows from cd! I' ve tried with F8, F3 etc. I know that windows cd is ok because I've tried it on my old comp few minuts ago!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Aspire 5520-5912 laptop I am trouble shooting for a relative that randomly shuts down just before, or shortly after it boots to windows.
I have tested the hard drive in my Desktop and scanned it for viruses, swapped out the memory, re applied thermal paste on the cpu heat sink and made sure it was not clogged with dust.
I think I have it narrowed down to a bad MB or CPU but was wandering if anyone else has had any issues like this and what the problem was.
I think my cpu and gpu temps are too high. The idle temps are: cpu: 40-50°C, gpu: 60-70°C. I'm installing WoW now, and the cpu is 74°C, the gpu 75°C. My CPU is: AMD Turion 64 x2 TL-60 (2.0 GHz), graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G. I'm using SpeedFan to watch the temps.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a new OTB acer aspire 5520, and on initial booting everything worked sweetly but when i am trying to access my crystal eye cam on YM or any IM programs it says the webcam is not connected, Now I checked device manager and there is no webcam, so i installed the driver from the erecovery management tool I tried first the BISON driver and utility without success upon installation the program says the computer should display a "found new hardware" message, but nothing showed up. then when it restarted my machine and when i checked on device manager still no cam... next i uninstalled the BISON driver and installed the 2nd one (SUYIN) with the same results. I searched the support and download section of ACER online and tried a third driver the CHICONY and still the same results.. Finally i re installed my system to full factory default and re tried everything still the same problems...
