I purchased an inspiron 15r 5520 a few months ago. I ran assassins creed 3 on it and have run into some problems.
Now I read a lot about this problem on other forums. Whenever I run the game it crashes after some time and hangs up my computer too. Many think its because the dedicated graphic card (Radeon 7760M).
It has occurred to me that there's an issue with either my Dell Inspiron 3520 Laptop Computer or my Windows 8.1/Windows 8 OS. Occasionally, running the computer (sometimes when it's overheating or just when unplugging the laptop), the computer just crashes, i.e. Screen goes black, power light and HDD light stays on for a about 2 seconds before powering off. No blue screen, no warning, no updates. There's was no reason for it to go off, but it did. It's frustrating because:
1.) When I'm working/playing a game/hosting a multi-player server, the computer tends to crash in the middle of it causing my work to go to waste.
2.) I believe it will damage my laptop and cause further problems in the future
I've researched a bit about this issue before and people have said that it's due to overheating, but I have proven that this is not the case for me as I have placed my PC beside a fan where it kept a steady temperature of about 50-65 Degrees Celsius and I've still faced the issue.
I have been having problems with my XPS L502x I use to play Saint Rows the Third on my laptop it use to play perfectly but now after a year I restored my factory setting now when ever i install any of my old games they start off perfectly but during the game it hangs a lot...

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Studio XPS 13 (a month ago), and since the beginning, I've noticed that every time I run a game on high performance (g210m + 9400mg), the game either crashes or gets stuck. At the same settings, if I run the game in normal mode (9400 mg), it usually works fine. The settings are medium-low, never high. I really can't understand why this happens. Isn't the G210M supposed to make things better? is it a problem with the drivers? I have all the latest drivers updated from the Dell site. or is this a problem with my hardware? really worried and unfortunately I don't know a whole lot about computers.
The games I've run so far are COD4, COD6 and NFS Shift. They are all ripped copies.
I bought a Dell XPS 15 (L502X) laptop 2 weeks ago and have found a lot of trouble with it. It is an i7, 8gb ram with the nvidia 540m video card.
I have tried 3 different games, Left 4 Dead, League of Legends and Dragon Nest, and it crashes/freezes in all 3 games. You are able to run the game in high graphics however, it will crash in a shorter amount of time. If you put it on lowest quality, it still crashes, but it tends to take a longer time.
Things that I have tried.
- Old Drivers, New drivers, drivers from the dell site, drivers from nvidia, beta drivers
- driver sweeper
- changing the gpu to nvidia high performance instead of integrated graphics for the different games and programs
- changing the physx hardware to nvidia 540m
- set battery to high performance
- dell tech support, all they did was change integrated to nvidia high performance and change one setting in hopes of fixing the issue as well as using the system scan for issues, the report came back as passed and no issues.
And today while I was messing around with the settings, I have found a mediocre alternative to this problem. If you simply never use the nvidia GPU then there will never be a crash. You simply do everything with your integrated card. You will be able to run a game like League of Legends on Normal settings at best. However if you do this, it is as if you wasted all your money to get the nvidia 540m that simply does not work.
I have a y550 ideapad (gpu gt 130m) and i have a problem which is similar to others: when i play a game, after sometimes, from 5min to more than one hour, the pc crashes (black screen, but with backlight, harddisk still running, sound buffer played again and again, no response from keyboard) and i have to switch off the computer to start it again and everything is ok.
So i have tested my ram and gpu ram, no problem
I test the temperature - log of gpu-z: Ok except one thing, at the very end, just before the crash, the GPU memory clock goes from 799.2 (which is the speed during gaming) to 800.00Mhz and the temperature goes from 66°C to 255°C instantly. So there is the bug, software bug?
I want to manage the speed of the gpu memory (to put it max to 799.2) but there is nothing in the BIOS....

My PC has been running very slow lately . It hangs , freezes , pages become unresponsive and hence, it takes lot of time to type . I have to use it daily for work so, I want to resolve this asap.
Would like to increase its speed to be able to work smoothly on it daily. Would like PC to run fast. How to increase its RAM ? Does it cost to increase the RAM ?
Also , reading some prev posts I downloaded this link - [URL] ..... to determine the chipset info and following is the result I received . Pls let me know if increasing the RAM to 4GB will resolve my system concerns making it run fast and does not lead to any hangs / freezes etc .

I have an issue with my acer 5520. When I press F2 and enter setup My computer will just shut off! It may take 5 seconds or even up to 20 seconds but I got on to change my login options and it just shut off. I did this several times and it shut off time after time. My computer never turns off when I load windows and run Vista. I don't know if I need to update my bios or what.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've bought a new laptop 1 week ago, and it's running smooth with 1 exception: Everytime I shut the computer down or save energy, it magically forgets it has fans to cool cpu and graphics card. When i try to run a game it will gradually drop fps until it shuts down from overheating. I tried to fully discharge it and disconnect it from the battery to identify the hardware and then set it to standard in the bios, then it works. But the moment I shut down the computer it is the same thing over again. I don't want to do said process everytime I start my laptop..

In control panel devices it tells me to troubleshoot the laptop and cannot rectify problem with Broadcom virtual wireless adaptor. Secondly running the diagnostics say the Read test is not running. These are the only problems but are not affecting the efficiency of the PC. Should I ignore it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedLaptop has not been used regularly for quite a while. The system booted up fine and loaded Windows Vista with no problem. Everything seemed to be in working order. Decided to wipe the system, load productivity applications, and give it to my grandson who is starting college. I depressed the F8 key during start up and entered the recovery routine. I selected the "restore to factory settings" option.
The system indicated it was first formatting the drive and then restoring the system. When I restarted the computer I got to the Dell Boot Screen. Displayed on the screen is the Dell logo, "Inspiron 1520 Series", progress bar, and "BIOS Revision A03". The progress bar fills from left to right and restarts the process in a perpetual loop. When I power the system off the on; the first boot cycle seems to take a lot longer for the progress to fill, but after that it loops with the progress bar filling quickly.The system no longer responds to the F8 key being depressed during start-up.
Consequently, I can not repeat the "Restore to factory settings" process. I have tried to boot the system several times with the same results. When I press F12 during and get "boot options" choosing "Internal Hard Drive" or "Onboard NIC" makes no difference. When I run the diagnostics option from the F12 screen; the system displays the heading: "Pre-boot System Assessment Build 4106" and passes all tests.
It appears to me that the recovery to factory settings routine has in some way damaged the system. It had been working fine before the procedure and hangs during boot afterward. How to get the system back into proper operating condition with the factory settings restored.
I have had my Inspiron 7347 for a few days. When operating on the battery, the touchpad exhibits some quirks that make this P:C extremely hard to use as a portable laptop.
The mouse on the touchpad hangs up intermittently, sometimes for several seconds. This erratic behavior makes using the mouse terribly difficult.
When scrolling using the mouse on a vertical scroll bar, the right click menu for the desktop keeps popping up. I must move the mouse away from the scroll bar, left click to get rid of the right click menu, and return the mouse to the scroll bar. Sometimes this behavior is constant when scrolling through a long page, making it impossible to use the mouse to scroll.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to upgrade the operating system on my laptop. Preinstalled Windows 7 x64 Home Basic, and I update to Windows 8 x64 Professional. At the end of the installation process hangs and all I see on the screen - this is the logo in the center of the screen, a few words at the bottom and five frozen in one position points that previously ran in a circle.
I repeated the installation several times, but all of these attempts have ended the same way.
Have any of you have a similar situation and how you solved it?

As a routine maintenance task, I ran chkdsk /r on my Inspiron 1545 last night and it hung at 69% in stage 5 for over 10 hours. I figured it was hung for good, so shut the machine off. When I turned it back on I got the black screen with a "missing operating system". Message.
Worst case, is it as simple to get a factory restore by hitting F8 at bootup like I;ve seen posted on the web? If not, I do have the factory system recovery disks I made, but I really want to save what's on the laptop already.
I have a problem with gaming on the Inspiron 1521 laptop running on vista home prem. Ok, take any game that has some 3-D effects on it, when I play the game with the battery charger plugged into my laptop, the game starts and then it just freezes.
I have to hold the power button to get out of it, but when I take the battery charger out of the laptop and start the game, it works fine but a little slow. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?
I put the sims 3 in the computer, it loads to the main screen and the shuts down. It doesn't give any warning and does not restart. It also doesn't give a reason or notice as to why it shut down. The computer is not over-heating and I only have 1 expansion pack. Extra info: It is an 8GB RAM, intel core i5, is a 64-bit operating system, and Windows 8.

I have an Inspiron N7010 laptop( about 3 years old) that came with 4gb RAM. I want to upgrade to 8gb. I have tried 3 different brands of memory
including Dell memory. I have run extensive memory tests( the Dell memory does not fail ). I have the exact memory part number that Dell support
has given me. In ALL cases, after installing the 8gb RAM, the laptop boot and then at some point will simply shutdown ( just like you powered down ).
The system info from the control panel shows that all 8gb is recognized. I have looked for and installed all the bios, chip set, and cpu upgrades from dell.
I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop running Windows7, and it automatically powers off when I login to my computer.
I tried to run Diagnostics but it will not complete as laptop crashes within 30 seconds or so of logging in. As it crashes there is an audible click.
This happens both when the laptop is on AC Power and Battery, and in safe mode or starting normally.
I have an Inspiron N5010, roughly two and a half years old. It's been a pretty good computer. It would never crash unless it overheated, and to solve that I soon bought a cooler. I've never really had too much a crashing problem, besides an odd crash here or there when, I'm assuming the problem is, a number of programs running large processes and taking up a vast amount of RAM, and even then it usually is quite warm.
Lately I've not used the computer as much as I used to say, over the summer, but I'm still on it often. Normally I have a few tabs of Chrome open, and sometimes iTunes will be running as well. There's not usually anything more than that. However, my computer has randomly started to crash. Out of complete nowhere, with no warning whatsoever, the computer stops working and just... shuts down, as if it were overheating or something. At first I thought it had been due to charge, or had simply died on me, but when I plugged it back in both times it's done it now, I learn the battery has been probably a little under 100% when it crashed. The battery is quite new, received no sooner than November of last year.
The computer, when it crashes, is not warm at all either. Perhaps a little from where my hands were, but never warm enough to think it overheated. In the past three weeks, it's crashed twice. I know that sounds a bit little, but both times very little was actually being done. When it comes to school and projects and whatnot, when the workload really gets heavy (and it will!), I'm concerned it might start crashing more and more, or not be able to handle a heavy workload.
We downloaded Minecraft and he plays Hunger Games, a multi-player game, online. He'll join a game and start playing without an issue. But after a few minutes the screen freezes.

So I plugged it in and used it for a few minutes when suddenly the screen went black and the computer just shut off while plugged in. I noticed that my charging cord had a green light when it was plugged into the wall but the light went off as soon as it connected to my laptop. I've tried letting it charge, I've tried holding down the power button, I've tried removing the battery and plugging it back in, and I've tried a newer charging cord but the computer still won't turn on. No lights come on even when it is plugged into the wall.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron N5050 that unfortunately shuts down on its own or fails to respond when it goes to sleep mode. This doesn't happen every time it goes to sleep but it still happens quite frequently. When it shuts down on it's own, it displays a "Windows Did Not Shut Down Properly" message once it is turned back on. It very rarely displayed a Blue Screen of Death that mentioned something about drivers but this hasn't popped up in a while.
I've been in contact with a Dell representative for about a week now, having him call me every day to remote control my laptop and try something new. He updated all of the drivers he could find (I previously did this but he decided to go ahead and re-download them anyways), updated the BIOS (again, tried that already on my own), ran all sorts of diagnostic tools (the only one that he ran that I hadn't already run was the WinDbg X86 program), changed sleep settings (tried that on my own too), had me scan the entire computer for about 3 hours to check for hardware issues (It was one of the options under the F12 key when the computer first boots up and it came up clean), and yesterday he set up a new user account and had me use that for a day to see if the problems were linked to my profile (didn't even think about that one). It's actually caused the problem to occur more frequently to be quite honest. Today was especially bad, as the computer crashed 9 times and ended up deleting the newly created profile on its own in an attempt to repair itself.
Recently got a hand me down laptop. My brother did a reinstall of Windows 7 and formatted the hard drive before handing it over.
Its having issues - I'm trying to play FM 2013 but keep getting crashes during games. When I looked in Device Manager there were a load of yellow !. Most I solved by just right clicking and updating the drivers. The 540M graphiics were not showing up a all - so I had to download these from the website myself - but now have the Nvidia centre - which seems to work.
But still the SM bus controller still shows a yellow ! - and the game continues to crash, sometimes it forces a system shutdown.
