How do I remove this CD drive!
Acer Aspire 1641
[url]
I have drawn on what I *believe* it looks like from guessing - and the white inset image is something I got from[url]
Now I assume I gotta remove the BLUE screw, but that means removing the keyboard, but I cannot work out how to do this.
On the front are 3 hinges for the monitor, and the green strip is sort of flexible, but I cannot remove it to gain access to the keyboard.
I have removed all easily accessible screws.

I'm trying to replace the keyboard on my Aspire 5542 but can't work out how to remove it.
I believe I need to remove the panel above the keyboard that houses the speakers. On other models I see there are some screws to remove below the battery however on this model there isn't.

I've seen how to replace the keyboard on laptops, but I'm having difficulty getting the cover panel between the display hinges and the top of the keyboard, on this Aspire 5920. Anyone know the trick to removing this panel, so I don't end up cracking it?

I have an Acer Aspire 5930G and I'm simply wondering what acer programs are worth still having on the computer (or any programs that came with the computer for that matter e.g. NTI backup now 5) =)

Does anyone know how to remove the primary HDD from an Acer 6930 laptop? It seems to be designed not to be removed, very annoying. I hope we're not returning to the bad old days of having to remove half the casing just to get at one component.

I have a 5920 that is just out of warranty and want to upgrade the 160 gig HD with a 500 gig WD. The 5920 is a wonderful machine and working fine. Looked like a five minute job to remove the ram/HD cover by removing the 7 screws visible on my rear cover. But, it wouldn't come off, felt like more screws were possibly under the MS Vista label on the cover. A web search resulted in a downloaded manual for the 5920 that said "remove 9 screws". No screws shown under the label. Looking around some more, I see 2 small "indents", for lack of a better word, that could hide the 2 missing screws. Were these 2 "indents" effectively "tamper-proof" plugs? Looking at this site, I see that others were removing 9 screws but it was also noted that the cover had to be "carefully" pried off after that. No mention of plugs. From a photo someone posted, it looks like the "indents" I see are at about the same location as 2 of the HD mounting screws. So, maybe ACER changed the design so that these two screws don't come off with the back cover anymore. Maybe the 2 "indents" I see are not "plugs" but simply undrilled holes so I only need to remove 7, not 9 screws and then do the prying. Questions: Does anyone know if these two "indents" are tamper-proof plugs or just undrilled holes? Then, I would like to know more about this "prying". What is being pried upon? A picture would be good. The back cover pictures I've seen here and in the repair manual do not show what must be pried upon.

I got my laptop this morning, and I was practically overspeeding (well, not really) just so I could go home and do my thang with it. So when I got home, I updated it to SP2 (since I restored it before sending it in for repair) and did the miscellaneous software tweaks I could think of as yet.
And then, it's time for the CPU Upgrade! Wooooooot!
I. Introduction: How was my laptop (dubbed Ciel Noir v1.0) before?
Originally, my notebook came with an Intel T5800. Undervolted at 1.0500v, it ran cool enough at 2.00GHz, and I thought it had a busted thermal sensor since only the ACPI layer temp was working, and the Core 0 and 1 would show anomalous temps of either 4C or 20C or something lower or a bit higher.
Last month I ordered a T9600 from eBay (2.80GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 6M L2 Cache) and I only had an opportunity to install it today. Let's move on.
II. Tests for the T5800
I ran a test on how fast the T5800 boots from the Vista progress bar until when it loads www.yahoo.com (my homepage). Here's what it got:
Test 1: ~ 1:32.01
Test 2: ~ 1:31.00
Test 3: ~ 1:31.95
Sadly I didn't get the chance to record it since the phone I was using for timing it was the same phone I would have used to take a video of it. (My mom is in Singapore and she brought our vidcam lol). So I guess, an average of one and a half minutes is a good baseline.
III. Disassembly, my favorite part
So after I got those times, I shut down the laptop and then got on with disassembly! Yeah~~
I was helped by a service guide I grabbed somewhere, but it shows a Travelmate 4730G--but it kinda looked like (and had the same specs) as my 4630G, aside from three extra screws and an inverted LCD screw assembly (as far as I got into it lol)
So no more waiting, here are the photos:
Here are snaps of when I had the T5800 still inside:
The core temps are inaccurate--like I said I think my mobo sensors are turned off or something.
Here's when I already removed the HDD, RAM and the WLAN board:
BTW when you remove the battery pack, there would be five scews (seven in m 4630G) that yo should take off to remove the switch covers..........................

I picked up one of these on ebay a few weeks ago for OCing purposes and the fan on this thing is driving me nuts. It's louder then both my laptop (on high fan speed settings) and my server which has 2 120mm fans. I opened it up and saw that the little 30mm fan isnt even mounted to anything. Would it be safe to tear the little bastard out?

Here's a quick review (I'll try to get a more detailed one up soon and add it to the original post)
When the 2707 first came out, it was more expensive than the 3007!, but now it is $100 cheaper on the dell site. imho it is still way over priced considering you can get a westinghouse 37" for $999.99 but I couldn't pass up this particular 2707 b/c I got for really cheap.
I've owned several different LCD's:
17" Envision
19" Viewsonic
19" hyundai L90D+
24" gateway
24" Dell
Pros: It's great, although some people may complain about the dot/pixel/inch (ie. 2407 vs 2707)
-great size (I loved the 24" it was absolutely perfect, but now experiencing the 2707...I would definitely opt for the 2707 since it is bigger =D & watching HD clips/movies on it is even more amazing than on a 24"...I'm sure it would look even better on a 37" or bigger LCD)
-price (well the price I got mine for, since it was 2nd hand...not sure if you can pick these up from Dell outlet yet, but I roughly half of what it's going for now =D w00t!)
-aluminum framing vs. plastic: wow the brushed textured/polished aluminum framing makes it look so classy & clean vs the black plastic on the other dell lcd models, plus it has a black glass base that is thick and sturdy
-card reader & usb hub (the same on all the upper end dell lcds)
-easy tilt/ergonomic arm...since it uses a different type of "arm" than the other dell lcd's, it does make adjustments rather easy
Neg:
-no portrait mode: unlike other dell lcd's, the dell 2707 does not have portrait mode =(, but then again you could always get an aftermarket "arm" to do this
-colors are not as accurate as a 17" lcd display, although it looks great
Here are some side by side pics: (Dell on left, AW on right (I believe it's the LG 17" lcd that Dell XPS use as well...no flash vs flash)
no flash
Flash
2nd Desktop w/ more color (no Flash)

TXN25
XP Pro
In the past few days, a new problem arose. Pushing the green ON button is not enough - the light doesn't come on, nothing starts.
I must remove the battery and replace it, then all is well.
What could have caused this?
(This TX is about to be replaced by a Toshiba R600 with an Intel SSD - perhaps it's embarrassment?)

If you have the glossy carbon fiber version, try waxing it.
I taped off a section of the lid to see before and after results. After that, I applied 3 coats of wax.
Pretty compelling:
I used Dupont Teflon car wax.
