Good news for people thinking of getting the Vaio Z but still cannot decide which resolution to go for (1366x768 or 1600x900). I've got some pics that should help you guys out. Unfortunately, I do not have any side by side comparison photos between the 2 of them.
One thing to take note of is that for both Vaio Z, all the setting are in their "default" values (Default screen resolution, 96 DPI, etc.)
For all the pairs of photos:
Left - 1366x768
Right - 1600x900

If you have the glossy carbon fiber version, try waxing it.
I taped off a section of the lid to see before and after results. After that, I applied 3 coats of wax.
Pretty compelling:
I used Dupont Teflon car wax.

Just upgraded the WiFi card from 6200 to 6300 AGN in my new Z
Also, I used the Mini PCI-E WiFi Antenna from ebay:
2x MINI PCI-E Antenne Wireless WiFi 802.11N A/B/G/N AGN bei eBay.de: Komponenten (endet 20.05.10 22:20:07 MESZ)
Antenna fits nicely into disassembled/"lightened" Lenovo UltraBay III adapter and can be bolted with a small screw so it is completed fixed.

I have a Dell M90. With 2 gb of ram and a 100GB harddrive. I'm looking to upgrade the internal hardrive. I'm wondering if it is possible to upgrade it to the new 300 gb hitatchi 2,5" drive. It is sata 300 and the dell m90 is sata 150. I understand this will work allright. But i was told by a Dell representative that the max M90 capacity was 160gb (and that it HAD to be a dell drive) does this make sense? Does that mean I cannot upgrade my drive unless it is a dell 160 gb drive?

and also if you could show me how you (or anyone) who has enabled the SRS audio on their IDT soundcards
and as usual......everything is latest right down to the QLB post made a few hour ago
are the DV5T's batteries Lithium ion or Nickel Metal Hydride?

I was trying to clean up my laptop inside since it was making too much noise and got hot very quickly. Reading around it could be due to bad air flow.
So when I took out my harddrive, i cracked a hard drive connecter. Now I am getting no disk found when I power up the laptop. Not sure why hp made this of plactic and so fragile. Even Acer has solid metal connecter. 10 year old Toshiba laptop has better disign. My drive connecter is from SUYIN and number is 78352.
Question is has anybody ran into this problem and sucessful in chagning only the connector. Looks like I might have to change the whole motherboard. It is only 1 year and would like to avoid sending it to HP if I can.

I'm pretty sure I crashed my hard drive. I came back in and my two year old white dual core macbook had froze up. I screwed around with it and finally got it to boot from the external backp drive.(Don't ask me how I did it) I know it had the system on it. I put it on when I did the intial backup a year ago. I tried to reinstall the software but the internal doesn't show up. ANd you can't install to an external hardrive. SO can I just install a new harderive and does anybody have any suggestions as to what brand, size and best deal.
Also there is a ton of upgrades that want to download as the OS I have is over a year old on the external.
I'll be checking in cause I know I probably don't have enough info on here. ANd i aint gonna shut down

Had my DV5T a couple months now. Thought it was a broken hardrive but I had them send me a replacement and I still here it.
It just sounds like a geiger counter somtimes... not sure if this is normal?
Many times the sound is there when I am not accessing anything from the hardrive.
Tends to happen alot when streaming or just browsing the net.

Trying to get rid of these questionably useful programs -- but I don't see entries for them in add/remove programs in the control panel (or for any of the other useless VAIO software packages that come on OEM machines sans "fresh start")

Here's a quick review (I'll try to get a more detailed one up soon and add it to the original post)
When the 2707 first came out, it was more expensive than the 3007!, but now it is $100 cheaper on the dell site. imho it is still way over priced considering you can get a westinghouse 37" for $999.99 but I couldn't pass up this particular 2707 b/c I got for really cheap.
I've owned several different LCD's:
17" Envision
19" Viewsonic
19" hyundai L90D+
24" gateway
24" Dell
Pros: It's great, although some people may complain about the dot/pixel/inch (ie. 2407 vs 2707)
-great size (I loved the 24" it was absolutely perfect, but now experiencing the 2707...I would definitely opt for the 2707 since it is bigger =D & watching HD clips/movies on it is even more amazing than on a 24"...I'm sure it would look even better on a 37" or bigger LCD)
-price (well the price I got mine for, since it was 2nd hand...not sure if you can pick these up from Dell outlet yet, but I roughly half of what it's going for now =D w00t!)
-aluminum framing vs. plastic: wow the brushed textured/polished aluminum framing makes it look so classy & clean vs the black plastic on the other dell lcd models, plus it has a black glass base that is thick and sturdy
-card reader & usb hub (the same on all the upper end dell lcds)
-easy tilt/ergonomic arm...since it uses a different type of "arm" than the other dell lcd's, it does make adjustments rather easy
Neg:
-no portrait mode: unlike other dell lcd's, the dell 2707 does not have portrait mode =(, but then again you could always get an aftermarket "arm" to do this
-colors are not as accurate as a 17" lcd display, although it looks great
Here are some side by side pics: (Dell on left, AW on right (I believe it's the LG 17" lcd that Dell XPS use as well...no flash vs flash)
no flash
Flash
2nd Desktop w/ more color (no Flash)
Flash....

Anyone got a picture of a sleeve that fits the Dell Studio XPS 16 w/ 9 cell well? Was looking at the Case Logic 17" Sleeve since the Dell is so wide.
http://www.caselogic.com/17_laptop_s...modelid=120438
According to Dell, laptop w/ 6 cell is:
Width: 15.15" (384.9mm)
Height: 0.95" (24.1mm) front / 1.34" (33.95mm) back
Depth: 10.02" (254.6mm)

How do I remove this CD drive!
Acer Aspire 1641
[url]
I have drawn on what I *believe* it looks like from guessing - and the white inset image is something I got from[url]
Now I assume I gotta remove the BLUE screw, but that means removing the keyboard, but I cannot work out how to do this.
On the front are 3 hinges for the monitor, and the green strip is sort of flexible, but I cannot remove it to gain access to the keyboard.
I have removed all easily accessible screws.

I first started with an MSI wind which I liked alot the big selling point at the time was the 10" screen which wasn't quite "standard" on the netbook scene. While I liked the wind I found the keyboard too small to enable quick typing. I had it long enough That I got used to it however it just wasn't cutting it.
I then moved onto an N10J and threw in a 500GB HDD and it was my main computer for about 2 months until I got a desktop, anyhow I loved it mainly becasue it had a nearly full size keyboard. The addition of the 9300M was great for watching HD videos and some light gaming. As it stands I love this notebook however the geek in me always wants to try new things and I couldn't wait to see the response from AMD's side, and this is where I begin with the DV2............

I got the computer back in October '08, but I'm on vacation now, and I thought I'd write up a 2.53 Unibody Macbook Pro review of my own
So after the whole debacle with my old '07 Macbook Pro (Santa Rosa) and the nVidia chip dying -- which Apple eventually repaired for free -- I decided to buy the new Unibody.
I got it from an Apple Store in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, configured as follows:
2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 6MB shared L2 cache
1066MHz frontside bus
4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
320GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics processor 512MB of GDDR3 memory
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory..........

***I should also note that some of the close screen shots are a little blurry. I wasnt using a camera stand and taking shots with no flash. So like in the sunset shot, dont compare resolution cause the m6400 pic looks blurrier than the 9100 pic. Just compare color and brightness. Sorry, I just noticed this hours later *
Ok, Ive taken some side by side pics.
Old laptop, Dell 9100 15" about 4.5 years old.
New Laptop - M6400 Covet
As you can see, for me at least, buying this 17" isnt much bigger than the
15" Im used to. Ok, yeah. I wish the power supply wasnt so big but I will still carry this daily with me to work.
I have a backpack by Spire that I LOVE. They make a sleeve that fits this laptop fine and though the backpack I bought isnt SUPPOSED to fit that big of a sleeve, it actually works.
I highly recommend Spire backpacks. My old one for the 9100 has been carried almost Daily for over 4 years with good weight in it and it still really seems like new esp in the strength department.
I am no expert in video card and monitor stuff as Im an audio guy, so I havent tweaked anything with these screens. They are just both set to highest brightness level and as they came. Im not sure how "fair" it is to compare these since one is an LED screen and one is not and right there, you should expect one to be "colder" and one "warmer".
The LED on the m6400 is definately more saturated with color and way brighter. In whites, my old one looks a bit yellowish though it doesnt really show on the pics.
I tried to so some comparison glossy vs matte (9100) screen. Yep, the Covet is glossy as it IS glass after all, but nope, it doesnt bother me a bit. My first glossy screen too.
I tried to show the screen at angles but both these screens seem to have a wide angle range for viewing.

As I took my Dell Studio 1555 apart to upgrade the cpu (not a job for the feint hearted!) I took some photo's of the mainboard and HS/Fan.
If any of you have noticed high temps in HWMonitor on one of the ACPI I have tracked it down to be related to the GPU. Well when you look at the Heatsink you will see why!
Thermal pad on GPU
Tiny heat sink with copper bar which sticks to the back of the fan assembly
Tiny noisy fan
