I'm trying to replace the keyboard on my Aspire 5542 but can't work out how to remove it.
I believe I need to remove the panel above the keyboard that houses the speakers. On other models I see there are some screws to remove below the battery however on this model there isn't.
I've seen how to replace the keyboard on laptops, but I'm having difficulty getting the cover panel between the display hinges and the top of the keyboard, on this Aspire 5920. Anyone know the trick to removing this panel, so I don't end up cracking it?

The software on the laptop is running very smoth because the Aspire 5542 is coming with Windows 7 64 bit.
The problem it's just one: the fan is a bit noise and is permanently ON(when the laptop is idle also ....)(the same situation like for Timeline Series)
Someone of you had the same laptop with the same problem?
Someone have a service manual for this new model(Aspire 5542)? Is it posible to buy one(service manual) from somewhere? I want to try to open the chassis to seen the fan, and to try to solve this problem....If someone already do it first please post some pictures!
I've successfully been using Win 8.1pro for the past week. I've just been working on my Acer Aspire 5542 laptop browsing Google and Facebook when it stopped working. On switching on, I keep getting a message { "PREPARING AUTOMATIC REPAIR" after about 10 seconds a blue screen flashes in 1 second that says "): your PC ran into problems and needs to restart. We are just collecting error info and we'll restart for you."} and computer proceeds to restart and keeps looping the same process indefinitely. It's been like this since yesterday..

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an ACER Aspire 5542g and i've had a problem with it lately, when I turn it on, the fan starts running, the harddrive turns on, and the CD drive starts up, the power button LED is on, but all that shows up is a black screen. I have tried the "Take out the charger and battery, hold the power button for 30 seconds", tried switching the RAM, tried taking out the harddrive, and all have been a fail. And I am honestly confused, because some of the time (rarely) it will turn on, and literally everything about the laptop is perfectly fine, and its like nothing happened. Until you turn it off.

Now I assume I gotta remove the BLUE screw, but that means removing the keyboard, but I cannot work out how to do this.
On the front are 3 hinges for the monitor, and the green strip is sort of flexible, but I cannot remove it to gain access to the keyboard.
I have removed all easily accessible screws.
I have an Acer Aspire 5930G and I'm simply wondering what acer programs are worth still having on the computer (or any programs that came with the computer for that matter e.g. NTI backup now 5) =)

I currently have an AA1 and am curious to those who tried typing on both the HP Mini and the AA1 keyboards and noticed a difference. I believe the HP's keyboard is 92% and the AA1's is 89% I believe. It feels "okay" to type on, obviously not the best due to its size compared to a normal keyboard, but am wondering if the HP's is worth the price jump (paid 300 for mine).

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 5920 that is just out of warranty and want to upgrade the 160 gig HD with a 500 gig WD. The 5920 is a wonderful machine and working fine. Looked like a five minute job to remove the ram/HD cover by removing the 7 screws visible on my rear cover. But, it wouldn't come off, felt like more screws were possibly under the MS Vista label on the cover. A web search resulted in a downloaded manual for the 5920 that said "remove 9 screws". No screws shown under the label. Looking around some more, I see 2 small "indents", for lack of a better word, that could hide the 2 missing screws. Were these 2 "indents" effectively "tamper-proof" plugs? Looking at this site, I see that others were removing 9 screws but it was also noted that the cover had to be "carefully" pried off after that. No mention of plugs. From a photo someone posted, it looks like the "indents" I see are at about the same location as 2 of the HD mounting screws. So, maybe ACER changed the design so that these two screws don't come off with the back cover anymore. Maybe the 2 "indents" I see are not "plugs" but simply undrilled holes so I only need to remove 7, not 9 screws and then do the prying. Questions: Does anyone know if these two "indents" are tamper-proof plugs or just undrilled holes? Then, I would like to know more about this "prying". What is being pried upon? A picture would be good. The back cover pictures I've seen here and in the repair manual do not show what must be pried upon.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Acer Aspire One, which I love, does one thing that drives me NUTS! The touchpad, mainly noticed in games (FPS are the most detectable), doesn't respond while pressing keys... IE, I press "W" to run forward, and the touchpad doesn't work simultaniously... I can run, or look around, but not both at the same time... why is that? No other touchpad in a laptop I've ever used had the limitaion? And, when using an external mouse, the mouse works great, meaning I can move around pressing keys on the keyboard all while looking around. It just gets annoying having to stop, look around, then move, stop, look around, move, etc.
Is this a driver problem or a hardware problem? Even the EEE Pc that I use to have didn't do this, so why the new Acer? Curious, and no idea how to fix it.... Maybe it's even a setting somewhere I'm unaware of...
i've an aspire 5585 whose keyboard wont work anymore. i cant even enter bios(using f2 key at the acer logo splash screen where it says "press f2 to enter setup"), but the wierd thing is that if i turn on the laptop with F2 key pressed i get in the bios but still the keyboard wouldn't work and cannot navigate through bios menu. my touchpad works fine

The right side some keys don't work other type multiple letters and preforms different action. I replaced the keyboard twice thinking i bought a faulty one but still have the same problem. If i use a external USB or the onscreen keyboard it works fine. I also flashed the bio and still no change.

Then i tried windows 7 and it also has the same problem( also tried new drivers etc) . With an extern keyboard and mouse it is able to use te laptop.
fn+ f7 doenst work. (because de keyboard doenst work )
The strange part is that when i acces the bios, de keyboard works.
how to replace the keyboard? My daughter spilled spaghetti on the keyboard and some of the keys doesn't work anymore . If anybody knows how to replace it with photos and instructions I would appreciate it a lot.

All was fine last night, but this morning, when I tried to log in, I found that I couldn't type my password. Most keys have stopped working, while others just come up with random symbols or punctuation marks (e.g. the Fn key now displays a /). I can press any key to get from the intro screen with the clock and date. The touchpad is working as it should. Attaching an external keyboard also works.

View 11 Replies View Relatedi have a acer aspire 5920, when ever the battery is taken out the q w a s z x esc tab cap lock shift ctrl fn 1 and 2 keys stops working. this is the third time it has happened and the first time i fixed it by a hard reset. the last time i don't know how i got it working, somthing stuffed up on start up and it came up with a error when bios was loading, it told me to press f2 but that key didn't work. after about ten resets it worked. but now i can't get the keys working.
