i've an aspire 5585 whose keyboard wont work anymore. i cant even enter bios(using f2 key at the acer logo splash screen where it says "press f2 to enter setup"), but the wierd thing is that if i turn on the laptop with F2 key pressed i get in the bios but still the keyboard wouldn't work and cannot navigate through bios menu. my touchpad works fine
View 6 RepliesI currently have an AA1 and am curious to those who tried typing on both the HP Mini and the AA1 keyboards and noticed a difference. I believe the HP's keyboard is 92% and the AA1's is 89% I believe. It feels "okay" to type on, obviously not the best due to its size compared to a normal keyboard, but am wondering if the HP's is worth the price jump (paid 300 for mine).

I have an Aspire 8920G laptop.
I have Windows Vista Home Premium preinstalled (with no installation nor recovery disks delivered).
I accidently hit the arcade button on the cinedash panel, instead of the power button. The computer started directly up into arcade deluxe, after a short install. Nice feature
I thought, and choose to exit arcade through the exit feature. Then I noticed that the computer prepared to hibernate, but instead it shut off after it finished.
After turning the computer on, a small complaint about improper closing the computer popped up, and I choose to start windows normally. Now the boot loader ran, and when I expected the logon screen, instead I met a black screen with a working mouse cursor. I eventually had to force power down, since crtl alt delete didn't work.
Since then, all boot options, safe mode etc leads to the same black screen.
Vista looks like it's going to boot normally then goes to a black screen with a working mouse pointer. The hard disk light just pulses every couple seconds.
I tried extracting the battery but it doesn't work.
I tried to alt+f10 - Vista Recovery page, so it gives me menu called "Edit Boot Options". There is the path to winload.exe and this:
"Partition: 2
Hard Disk: b8f0ffa4
[ /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN
]"
That's all what I have when I press ALT + F10.
I could type "Enter" = nothing happened
"Esc" = shutdown the system
"F8" = go to recovery page.
Hit f8:
Goes to a "Vista system recovery" or something like that, i'm not quite sure what its name was. Anyway it had about 6 options, including "Get windows to check for and correct the faults on your disk" in a little bit more high tech talk. And "Restore to a earlier point". Since the "Checking and correct faults" said it was recommended, i thought i'd go for that.
It ran its tool, told me to click the restart button. Runs it again, tells me to restart again.
And now it enters its final state - Its virtually dead :|. If i turn it on, it will go to the black screen, that talks about an improper shutdown, with the options for Safe Mode, Safe mode with networking.. etc. Any of these 4 options all result in the same black screen displaying only the mouse cursor.
I was not trying to install or upgrade nothing, was not trying to change form vista to xp or so.
I have not deleted any hidden partition (as far as I know...)

It has vista home premium preinstalled. Lately I installed Xp on it (Ive done it many times before because its faster) The only thing is that with Xp it shutsdown after some time, 'cuase of the heat. So I thought I'll update the BIOS. It went well but then IT shutsdown! I was afraid of this but it happened. Now my Lap won't boot, nothing comes up, not even a sound! The only thing that work is the dvd driver. The fan goes like it would boot but nothing. I tried to flash it via usb but didn't read the usb.
I have an aspire v3-571g that came pre installed with win 8. The hard drive just crashed without warning, and I somehow lost my recovery media. When I buy a new hard drive, do I need to buy a new copy of windows, or is there another way to get my copy back.?
Also, without access to my computer, is there any good way to figure out which d4ives are compatible with my system?
Im using Acer Aspire 4520. Now my laptop have dead because im update the BIOS firmware on windows vista platform. On 8% progress its 'hang' now i'm can using my laptop.
the many solution i have try on this forum. not done.
FYI on my procedure
1- Run the Phoenix Crisis Disk -> Format the floppy procedure.
2- Open the Acer BIOS from website -> I get the Z03_3626.wph file then rename to bios.wph
3- Copy the bios.wph to Floppy drive
4- Insert the USB floppy to my laptop then remove the battery, hold the FN + ESC button, plug in power then press power button
5- I hear the floppy drive reading on 3minutes then after 3minutes the floopy drive stop and i release the holding FN + ESC button
6- waiting about 20 minutes nothing happen.
so what i want to do...? i think this is right procedure because it reading the floopy drive long about 3minutes. If i try burn the CD procedure nothing happen (can read), then try rename to .fd it not read.
I've now spent many hours of research and troubleshooting to try to fix this issue, both via external sites through google search and here on Acer site.
It is the same issue reported many times: Acer 5552g laptop powers on, but does not boot up -I get blank / black screen, fan sound briefly, then idle, and that's the end of. Also, when I do manage to get it going (booting), it seems a totally random event...
My laptop (Ideapad Flex 15) updated and restarted this morning -- upon which I lost all KB function. I could not log in since could not enter my password. I plugged in a wireless USB KB which works. How to restore laptop KB function?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Acer Aspire One, which I love, does one thing that drives me NUTS! The touchpad, mainly noticed in games (FPS are the most detectable), doesn't respond while pressing keys... IE, I press "W" to run forward, and the touchpad doesn't work simultaniously... I can run, or look around, but not both at the same time... why is that? No other touchpad in a laptop I've ever used had the limitaion? And, when using an external mouse, the mouse works great, meaning I can move around pressing keys on the keyboard all while looking around. It just gets annoying having to stop, look around, then move, stop, look around, move, etc.
Is this a driver problem or a hardware problem? Even the EEE Pc that I use to have didn't do this, so why the new Acer? Curious, and no idea how to fix it.... Maybe it's even a setting somewhere I'm unaware of...
typing with screen keyboard.
My keyboard is partially not working, launch manager didn't work correct b4 but now some letter keys & even shift keys r not working.
Saying that, my battery came out of laptop (lock was unlocked) when it was shut down, anything to do with that maybe?
anyway i could take this off and clean it?

The right side some keys don't work other type multiple letters and preforms different action. I replaced the keyboard twice thinking i bought a faulty one but still have the same problem. If i use a external USB or the onscreen keyboard it works fine. I also flashed the bio and still no change.

Then i tried windows 7 and it also has the same problem( also tried new drivers etc) . With an extern keyboard and mouse it is able to use te laptop.
fn+ f7 doenst work. (because de keyboard doenst work )
The strange part is that when i acces the bios, de keyboard works.
I'm trying to replace the keyboard on my Aspire 5542 but can't work out how to remove it.
I believe I need to remove the panel above the keyboard that houses the speakers. On other models I see there are some screws to remove below the battery however on this model there isn't.
how to replace the keyboard? My daughter spilled spaghetti on the keyboard and some of the keys doesn't work anymore . If anybody knows how to replace it with photos and instructions I would appreciate it a lot.

All was fine last night, but this morning, when I tried to log in, I found that I couldn't type my password. Most keys have stopped working, while others just come up with random symbols or punctuation marks (e.g. the Fn key now displays a /). I can press any key to get from the intro screen with the clock and date. The touchpad is working as it should. Attaching an external keyboard also works.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an ACER Aspire 5500 which I think someone must have spilt some substance on the keyboard. I have cleaned the motherboard and components and have been able to get it to work again. However the following occurs:-
When booting up when the ACER screen apears the laptop starts BEEPing continuously. If I bash the keys around the arrows and Right Shift and END key section it stops beeping then proceeds to start windows. Everything works OK except whenever I try to open files I noticed the last file is always highlited. When I try to open other files it always opens the last highlited file. I noticed when I opened Microsoft word that on the bottom right hand corner the word END was constantly flashing as if the key was being held down.
I removed the keyboard and left an external keyboard plugged in but the same problem still occured.
I restored my Acer Aspire 5720 laptop using the factory restore DVD . I used to be able to press Fn+MJKLUIO78, or Fn+9 to type the numbers 012345678, or 9 while holding the Fn key.
After I finished restore the laptop to the factory image, the Fn+M...9 keys didn't work anymore.
Instead of mapping the keys to 0..9, it mapped the keys to Home, Up, PgUp, Left, Right, End, Down, and PgDn.
So for example, if I press Fn+L, instead of "3", it gave me "PgDn". It was giving me "3" before I restored the factory image.
So recap, I used to be able to hold Fn and I could type the "blue" letters printed on the keyboard.
I don't think this is Vista problem because I boot the laptop to DOS, the keyboard mapping is the same.
I think when I press Alt-F10 to run the recovery, I must have pressed some other hidden key sequence to switch the keyboard profile by accident.
Received an Aspire V 15 Touch as a present but when trying to type anything only the on-screen keyboard works. how to activate the hardware keyboard ?
