I'm having an Acer Aspire 4736Z which is cannot boot.
When I power on it there's power light but screen blank. No HDD activity.
And I copy Bios files to my Transcend thumbdrive and enter BIOS recovery mode by pressing FN+ESC, the whole screen turn white and fan running fast! But power light no blink, Thumbdrive no power and activity.
Just wanted to share my upgrade experience with my Aspire 4736z. My model did not come with bluetooth installed from the factory and it only has 3 usb ports and I wanted to keep them as free as possible.
So I found a place that sells the bluetooth module and cable needed.
I installed the module and cable and everything works great. Installed the driver and now my bluetooth button works as it should.

On the spec, my current 4736Z system is running with Intel T4400 (2.2GHz, 1MB Cache, 800MHz FSB), 2GB DDR3 RAM with genuine Window 7 Home Premium 64bit installed.
As to my understandng, the new Window 7 can address more than 4GB RAM from previous 32bit Window OS.
The question that I don't understand is why can't I upgrade the 4736Z notebook RAM more than 4GB, said with the market offering of 4GB x 2 DDR3 RAM giving me the 8GB instead?
My reason being the Window 7 was installed and the system supports DDR3 also.
I just got an acer aspire 4736Z this week. I got one that came with no operating system since I got a windows 7 install disc for christmas.
I set it up just fine. I got to install a few programs.
Then I thought of hooking up an LCD monitor. But because of how my table (as in the desk I sit in front of) is set up, I made the second monitor the "Primary" via Intel's graphics options. The actual monitor on the laptop then was secondary.
All went fine. I was still able to use both displays for quite some time. Then before bed I shut the laptop down. This morning, trying to turn it on, with the monitor still attached, nothing is displaying on either. Not even the stuff that come on when the BIOS things should be showing. I tried to unplug the monitor, but the same thing happens. Nada. It's all black.
The power button led turns on, and the two little led lights below the touch pad are on. But pressing caps lock, the caps lock indicator does not light up..
I was looking for a cheap 14" notebook and came across Aspire 4736.

If anyone have one of these then it will be great if you can post a brief
overview /review .
Also what about the general build quality of Acer .I need it to last atleast 2-3 years under normal college/home use.
When I check in the bios, it has the video memory set at 64mb. It does not give me the option to change this value like my old aspire 5100. Does anyone know of a way to increase the video memory on this lappy?

I heard that video cards for laptops are in PCI express.

IF and only IF this Acer Aspire doesn't have the ability to use a new video card, is there any other way I could improve its graphics like getting some of the built-in shared memory and putting it in the video?
Updated the bios in a Aspire 7740g from version 1.15 to 1.16 but with poor result. It flashed everything correctly, but when rebooting, nothing... Black screen.
The fan starts and stops after a few seconds, led's indicating that it's "alive", and I've tried the crisis recovery tool with bios 1.15 or 1.16. First with USB-drive (tried all ports), then on a CD-R. No sign of activity on the USB, but the CD-R spins up, head reading and can hear it working for 30-60 sec., rebooting, but then - nothing.
I have tried all key-commands, suggested on the net. Win+ESC, Win+B, Fn+ESC, Fn+B, but - nothing. (Power off, plug and battery removed, hold keys down, power connected and power on.....)
The battery is dead and removed, but it doesn't seem as it matters anyway?
What kind of bios does this Aspire have? Any other key-commands I should try? It seems as the Recovery Boot Block is there somehow, as the CD/DVD-drive spins up and sounds as it's working.
My problem is that when you turn on the laptop. My monitor shows no signs nor there is activity on the hard disk. I tried to remove the ram,hdd,bios battery,connect it to a tv with hdmi and still no sign of life.
I think it may be corrupt bios. Steps?
my granddaughter peeled up a few keys on my lappy. they look pretty dlicate so i dont want to try force them back down. Is there a certain procdure for this?

The unit is just outside of the warranty period when the hard drive failed. The hard drive just makes a clicking noise and after the logo screen appears it goes to a blue screen with a box that has the following message with in, "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert recovery Media and Hit any key.....Then Select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media.
I have installed a brand-new Western Digital 1T Sata3 harddrive to replace the Toshia 750 GB original Drive. After turning the computer on and at the logo screen I press and hold F2, this takes me to the InsydeH20 Setup Utility Screen. I see under the "Information" menu that the installed harddrive model and serial number appear. I see in the "Boot" menu, Boot Mode: "UEFI" and Secure Boot: "Enabled".
Under the "Exit" menu, Exit Saving Changes is highlighted. When I press F10 a "setup Configuration" box appears asking to save configuration changes and exit now? "Yes" is highlighted to which I hit Enter and are returned to the "Default Boot Device.......page. I then hit ecs twice and are at a black screen with the message No bootable device -- Please Restart system_appearing in the upper left corner of the screen. I then push and hold the power button until the computer shuts off.
I have ordered from acer the "Acer E-recovery Media Disc Set", which is specific to the SNID of my computer. I have not attempted to format the new hard drive in any way. I assume the E-recovery Media Disc Set will handle that operation due to the multiple partitions required.
In view of the above situation, do I need to set up the computer in any way before I start to utilize the E-recovery Media Disc set. I assume the Media will be on CD's. The computer was running Win 8.0 which was updated to Win 8.1 and was running very well, very stable.
Acer V5, spilled coffee on keyboard. no problem at first, then lockup, and on restart get the No Boot Device or Boot Failed. Am using my old laptop now. Can I get a download, save it to thumb drive, and use it to restart/reboot my Acer?

On boot, the machine shows the ACER BIOS screen but after that the display just goes blank. Have tried to boot from the Windows XP CD and the only difference is that following the BIOS screen I then get a message saying "Windows is inspecting your hardware configuration" and then a second or 2 later, back to a blank screen. No disc or CD activity.
Is this another ACER Motherboard problem or maybe a HDD failure?
After I turn on the power, the harddisk led doesn't turn on, just the CAP and NUM led flash once. The screen doesn't turn on, even the Acer logo doesn't appear. I can hear something is turning inside the notebook, but it's definitely not the harddisk.
I wonder if I had pressed some wrong buttons, and disable the notebook.

I've try to install windows xp, i've changed BIOS priority and put cd on first place, saved changes in BIOS and restarted my laptop and here comes a problem...
It will not boot windows from cd! I' ve tried with F8, F3 etc. I know that windows cd is ok because I've tried it on my old comp few minuts ago!
I have an acer aspire 1681wlmi which has just finished its extended 3 year warranty. The problem started by freezing upon start up on a white screen then the freeze up got quicker and quicker each time i rebooted it. Now the power on starts the hd, everything flashes like normal and after 5-6 seconds the hd stops and the hd light goes out. It wont boot from cd, it tries, the cd spins then everything goes dead again. I have tried all the previously mentioned fixes mentioned on this forum like removing battery, memory etc, i even tried to dismantle the whole thing but when it got down to the motherboard i did not want to break anything and put it back together again. I havea feeling the mother board is dead....

I shut down the pc and put the recovery cd in but the system still opening a windows and didnt read the CD. and i didnt saw this word "press any key to boot from CD". How do I get it to boot from the cd-rom. I went into setup to change the boot sequence to boot from cd 1st but cd isn't listed as a boot option. It has HDD, ODD, USB, PCI LAN as boot options to select from in that order.

I'm having getting my USB stick recognized as a bootable device (installing windows 7 onto a system that came with windows 8.1 pre-installed, no optical drive)
System: Acer E 15 (E5-571), BIOS V1.15 (UEFI)
What I've tried:-Disabled Secure Boot
-Created bootable USB stick with Windows 7 iso, via 'Microsoft USB/DVD Download Tool' (on alternate Windows 7 system)
-Created bootable USB stick with Windows 7 iso, via 'Rufus' (on alternate Windows 7 system)
-Windows 8.1 Advanced Restart -> Boot from UEFI USB Device (No UEFI device recognized)
What worked:-Enabling 'Legacy Boot Mode': USB stick was recognized upon boot and loaded Windows Installation. HOWEVER, Windows 7 won't instal to a GPT formatted drive under Legacy Boot Mode. I've read booting in UEFI mode is the only way to get Windows 7 to install onto GPT.
What I don't want to do:-Format the drive, change drive mode to MBR to instal Windows 7. Why? Because then I'd loose the factory installation of Windows 8.1
I want to be able to boot from a USB thumb drive/stick. There is no option in the Bios setup to do this.I will have to return the system to the store - but what Acer system can I replace it with to boot from USB stick?
View 9 Replies View RelatedAspire 5920. When I purchased it from a chain electronics store, I did not receive any OS CD/DVD or any other disks with it. Now it got to the point where it had slowed down to a crawl, I went to do a system restore (Vista Home Premium) to the earliest point which was set on 24 Aug 09, and I when it went to reboot itself it is now stuck on Start Windows Normally and if I select it, it just cycles back to Start Windows Normally after about 15 seconds. I've been doing that for the past two hours. I've hit F5 to get to a screen that allows me to choose F8 and get to safe mode and other selections and all of them take me back to Start Windows Normally and the endless cycle from hell. Of course I have no CD to boot from, so I have no choices at this point. The extremely curious thing is that I know another couple of people who bought the exact same model from the same retailer and none of them got disks. The retailer apparently told one of them that Acer doesn't ship OS disks with this model. I find that hard to believe.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new Acer Aspire 5536. It came pre-installed with Vista which I have repalced with Windows 7. I did a clean install, first formatting the hard drive.
The boot process takes 7-10 minutes before the login screen appears. Once logged in the sysrtem appears to be working fine. I have re-instaslled multiple times (using different disks) but no matter what I try it takes an age to boot.
Could my laptop be faulty - does anyone else have Win7 running on one these?
My 1 year old Acer Aspire 9920 suddenly stopped working yesterday for no particular reason. It seems dead.

I recently updated my bios on my R7-571 and it has caused me great woe. My computer will lock hard between 3 min and 3:30 min after bootup if I don't disable the WIndows Managment INstrumentation service. THis of course caused other problems on services that depend on that like LogMeIn. I need a solution to this. Either a way to downgrade to an earlier bios which I don't think is possible without a version of the bios updater that will support this, or a newer bios that addresses this issue.

Plugged it in for the night and the next day, I noticed the fan was running and I wasn't able to boot it. It won't shut off using the power button on side. The only way to shut it off was by using a paper clip on the reset on the bottom of the notebook.

Went to turn it on and the blue lights are working but it just lets me know the Hd is there but then gets quiet - nothing shows on the screen. It's 5 years old and I just reinstalled Win 7 Pro this week. I removed the battery. Same thing. I put the HD in an external case and hooked it up to another laptop and it is fine.
View 4 Replies View Related2 days ago I had trouble accessing the internet on my E1-570. Windows Explorer kept throwing up a fault and restoring the page. Eventually I loaded Safari and then Firefox and resolved to sort the problem with Windows Explorer some time in the future. This may be unrelated to what happened the next night. Started the E1 and got the usual "Acer, Explore beyond limits" screen and spinning dots, then got the login screen - input password then return. Spinning dots for much longer than usual then blank screen. I can see the cursor arrow so the screen itself must be functioning. Lights on the front are working - AC, battery and HDD. I have had the machine 14 months and it is used exclusively at home so has not been roughly treated.
