Jul 13, 2008I have a built in 1-5 card reader but the max size it will read is 2gb. Is there an update, or something so my laptop can read 4gb cards or more?

View 4 RepliesI've got an Aspire 9304, and it's just 1gb RAM.
I'm thinking of buying an extra 1gb of Ram from eBay that says they work on my model.
Is it easy to fit? I know it says on that eBay page that the 9304 will take this 1gb upgrade, but will it for sure?
I have had my Acer since new (about 2 years), not having any problems with it whatsoever, until recently, when it decided that upon displaying dark (black, grey etc) background it will intermittently flash white vertical lines across the screen.
Since it is out of warranty I have had it looked up by a repair company, which have said it was the screen connection cables that were at fault. That helped the problem for about a month, after which it reappered.
I have repeated the process then - the company replaced the connections, but this time it didn't help at all.
As this is happeneing randomly I am now asking, what could be the casue of such a fault,, if anyone has any idea. If there are any questions I will respond to the best of my knowledge.
I have made a short video that shows exactly what happens

Whenever I insert an SD card or Sony Memory Stick in the memory card reader (VGP-MCA20) of my SZ, the computer doesn't recognize it. If I double click on the removable drive, it hangs the computer. I tried 16MB and 512MB SD Cards and 16MB Sony Memory Stick. All of them don't work. I tried them with my FW notebook and they work fine. So, it is not the media problem.
I tried to restore from Recovery DVD with Windows XP, install with Windows Vista and I still have the same problem.
I am in the process of building a new del on the website, is has really been sometime since I did this and there seems to be alot of new technology that i am not familier with...
the first one is the graphics card.. i have 4 options...
Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD With Express Card
Mobile Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD with PC-Card
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M, 256MB With Express Card
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M, 256MB With PC-Card
i would assume that the following cards have different perfomances, but what is the difference between a Express card and a PC card... and what is the better one to have?
And what card would be better for some gaming.. "i am a command and conquer addict"...
you've probably heard it told to you time and time and time again, that there is no way to upgrade a dedicated GPU on a notebook.
But as an Acer owner, you may very well be among the lucky few who CAN upgrade their GPU, since Acer has used the MXM standard on its notebooks for quite some time now.
(For a primer on what MXM is, go have a look at the best resource online for MXM.)
But if your system came with any Intel GMA, it cannot be upgraded. NO EXCEPTIONS.
This topic will list which notebooks are CONFIRMED to be MXM-capable, as well as what slot they have, and what cards they were originally sold with (consider those safe upgrades). Any successful new-card upgrades will be linked to alongside the model.
A later post will document all the MXM cards that Acer has issued - although it's possible to use cards from other vendors, it's safest and more likely to be compatible if you stick with an Acer issue.............................
Whenever I insert a CD and click on the drive in my computer the disk ejects and it tells me to insert a cd.
Ist this a driver issue with Vista?
I've got an Aspire 1652WLMi laptop running Vista Home Premium but seem to have an issue with the DVD drive.
It will read and write CDs fine, it will read normal DVDs fine, it will BURN DVDRs fine. However it wont read DVDRs. Even ones its written (verified working in other PCs) come up as "blank disk" when you insert them into the laptop.
Im not sure if this is an OS problem or a drive problem.
I own a 5672 with the mobility x1400 card. I saw some x1800s online for sale. Is it possible for me to pop one in my laptop and make it work?
My current configuration is working, I'm just trying to up the frame rate a little.
Have you ever had any issues with DVD drive?
I have Optiarc drive (not sure exactly which one but will update later) and problem is that the drive cannot read few DVD/CDs. I have already found 3 such discs : COD5, Fritz10 and one music CD. All discs are original without any scratches.
I have also Acer Extensa and no issues - all discs are read.
I tried to read a blu-ray disc yesterday, it opens Acer Arcade Deluxe and then I get a black screen, nothing happens...
When I purchased the laptop I tried the sample blue-ray that comes with it and it works perfectly, but apparently not the blu-ray that I rented yesterday. Do you guys think it might be a zone issue ? I am in canada and I have the zone set to A, so it should be ok.
I already upgraded to the version of Acer Arcade Deluxe.
5930g, every time I but a dvd or cd in my dvd driver it cant be read by the vista.., I just hear sounds in the driver and got nothing at all!
after I restart for 2 or 3 times it works and the vista does recognize it.., I got really sick of this.., so what should i do.., should I install xp or what.., even if that was the solution I need a dvd rw driver to burn a bootable cd with the sata drives..,
Modded BIOS 1.27 for Aspire TM 3810.
Version with Intel/Ati/Switchable options in Switchable Graphics menu:
ftp://ftp.ad1ced.ru/JM31.127_SLIC.zip
Extended version with additional unlocked options:
ftp://ftp.ad1ced.ru/JM31.127_SLIC_ad1ced.ZIP
Don't forget to change User Access Level to see all options
advan20092 is AWESOME!
Just to explain how awesome this modded BIOS is: It enables a new INTEL-ONLY graphics setting in the BIOS for the TG models. This disables the ATI chip entirely, basically making the Switchable Graphics TG models act like the T models, which "fixes" the bug where both graphics chips are active after a Resume from Standby.
This gives 3810TG owners the promised battery life of 8+ hours. One caveat - it disables the HDMI port. For HDMI you have to use Switchable or ATI-ONLY modes.
I bought a new 8935G and found that the card reader cannot read my 2GB H-Type xD card.
FDXGDFSGDFS
The camera I'm using it in does not show any problem.
GDFSGDFSG
I tried reinstalling reader driver.
GDSFGSF
I teste the reader with an old 16Mb xD card and this works.
FSGFSG
When I put the 2GB card in, Windows Vista says it has to be formatted; at this point the card is already unreadable in the camera and must be formatted againg there.
If I try to format on pc, the process stops at about 90% with an error.

I've got an Inspiron 9300 / E1705 that came with an ATI X300 from a couple years ago, and I'm just thinking to upgrade it now. I would have liked the GeForce Go 7900 GS, but it seems there are troubles with that; what would you recommend, and where would I go to find it? I was hoping for a bit of direction! Much obliged, fellas.
View 15 Replies View RelatedSo at the moment the most powerful single card is the 8800gtx 512mb correct? It has been out for quite sometime now. I know that some 9 series cards have been released for laptops but have no where near the power of the 8800.
What current 9 series desktop card would have to be released for laptops to out power the 8800? Also when do you think the new card would be released.? I know its all kinda speculation at this point but just curious what people think as I may wanna buy a new laptop in a few months.
I see theres a lot of hype over some vendors removing the Stereo Mix Recording option from their sound cards.
So Im wondering if current Hp models (Such as but not limited to the HDX 16t) have also implemented this new restrictive and annoying feature?
Look forward to stellar customer service folks;

View 10 Replies View RelatedAnybody else wondering why we haven't seen anything coming out with the 8800m Nvidia cards?
Alienware had their big product release 11/19/07 for their new laptops with the 8800m cards then they pulled the link from their website.
Dell, who usually has the newest stuff doesn't mention them.
The boutique vendors like Voodoo pc and Falcon-nw that pride themselves on offering the latest hardware don't offer them. No press reviews in the print.
I've seen one on line mini review of bench marks from a clevo type laptop with an 8800m video card and that is it.
I wonder if nvidia is having a harder time manufacturing the 8800 62 nM cards than they have admitted. It would explain why the standard 8800 video cards are hard to get as well
I have just ordered a new SXPS13 and was wondering about upgrading the wireless card. I noticed that the Intel 5300 was not compatible with the NVIDIA chipset. What about the 5100 or the 4965? Are there are any other wireless cards I can put in that would give me comparable, or at least improved, performance?

View 9 Replies View RelatedHP approved wireless cards in their computers, due to a whitelist in the BIOS. Is that problem still here today? Reason why I'm asking is because I might want a EliteBook 8730w that comes refurb with no wireless. I was thinking the card from my nx9420 should do the trick.
View 7 Replies View RelatedDell XPS M1710. Phillips SDVD8820 DVD/CD RW Drive. Shows up in hardware manager, but all of a sudden, after writing a few discs in the morning, the drive just stopped being able to either read or write a CD.
I've tried reading both commercial audio CDs as well as audio CDs I've written on the system, and it just behaves as if there is no CD in the drive. Using iTunes, WMP, Media Monkey, and Nero 9...
When I stick a DVD in the drive and let Nero 9 check the drive out, it recognizes what type of drive it is, etc. But if I ask any of those apps to read or play a CD, they all say no CD is in the drive..
I was reformatting my iPod the other day and I left the house to go run some errands and when I got back I was greeted with the BSOD. So I just restarted my computer like always when suddenly I was greeted with this:
PBR 2... done
A disk read error has occurred
Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart
So I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Del and got the same message. About 5 times later I was able to run some sort of diagnostics and it was showing something with my HDD. So I tore my computer apart and put everything back in just to see if that would work and I'm still getting the same.
Am I just screwed out of my 20GB of music and all those programs that I had on my computer or is there some sort of fix to be able to recover the data? And will I just have to cave and get a new HDD?
