I did a complete restore of windows 7 starter on acer aspire one d270-1410. install hangs up on office 2010, currently for over 8 hours, without going any further. it's a vicious circle. can't get past office 2010 install. i have no cd drive.

I bought the recovery disks because eRecovery stalls at Office 2010 but the disks do exactly the same thing - I can only open in Safe Mode. I've tried many times with the same result. Even though I bought the disks, Acer Customer Service won't let me talk to a tech because my net book is not unwarranty - mfg date is 1/14/2012.

This is probably the biggest reason why I can't stand being a Mac only person. Outlook keeps me alive and isn't as nagging as a wife.

The hard drive on my Aspire 5745 was replaced (same size 640 GB) when I install Windows, it hangs on the Windows logo as its swirling and about to start. I have checked in the BIOS to disable UEFI boot but unable to see this option.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently am doing IT work for a remote co-worker and he said that his T430 only came with Lenovo Recovery discs and that he doesn't have any standalone Microsoft Office discs. Is there a download for the Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010 version that he's using that I can download to his machine, so I don't have to use the recovery discs for a factory reset?
I tried going to Microsoft's site to get the 2010 version, but when I entered his key, it said that there's no download available for the OEM version of Office 2010.
I am trying get Windows 7 installed on my 1410 but since there is no optical drive it is a real pain. Got windows 7 installed by doing a clean install using a usb drive. Now the problem is I cannot install the Acer software and drivers that acer included on their upgrade disc. I tried running the program from my external hard drive but that does not work since it says to insert the disk. ...why can't they make it easier? All the applications and drivers are on the disk but I have no idea which to install since the disc contains files for all their models. Why would acer not make thier upgrade disc a download or something for their computers without an optical drive?

Also the combination Fn+left/right arrow which makes the screen dimmer or brighter doesn't work either. One more thing: does this model have a bluetooth device? I can adjust the volume of the notebook, but I can't however adjust the brightness of the screen. There is no brightness setting in my notebook whatsoever! Am I missing the brightness driver? what is the name of the brightness driver? Or is it something else. Taking into account that I have decrease/increase brightness symbols on the left/right buttons respectively.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy daughter's Acer is 2.5 years old and it's running Windows 7. She recently rebooted it last week for a Windows Update and since then it starts up but hangs, with the hard drive light blinking slowly. I ran it in Safe Mode and it gets through CLASSPNP.SYS then hangs. According to articles this is usually a hardware problem. The only option I have with this OS is to bring up the Command Prompt. I've tried System File Checker - no go. System Repair comes back with unknown error and what looks like a bad Driver.
I was able to build a new partition (100+GB) and do a clean install of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate w/ SP1. This went through fine, though I would have to load the Acer drivers for the network card, etc. to finalize it. The point here is that this shows that the hard drive isn't the issue.
My fear is that Windows installed either some sort of driver or other update that has now caused the current OS on her laptop to be unusable. I went to do a System Restore and the only restore point it had was the Critical Update that she rebooted to on 2/13. Trying to roll back to that Restore Point didn't work.

If you have never heard about Windows tax, Windows refund or anyone ever getting refund for Windows OS then perhaps it is time to look it up.
I don't think many people are aware of the fact that it is possible (and you have the all the rights to) to get a refund for Windows OS if you aren't planning to use it.
Getting Windows OS refund is like returning unused/unneeded product to get your money back. For example, if you are using Linux on your computer, why should you pay for Windows OS? Or, if your study institution provides FREE premium Windows OS, why should you pay for the crippled one that comes with your computer? Why should you even be forced to use Windows?
I decided not to pay for Windows OS. It is in the principle.
Please note: The key in getting Windows OS refund is in DECLINING the EULA agreement the first time computer boots up (or not turning computer on at all). If you accepted the EULA you are out of luck!
Here is how I got Windows OS refund from Acer Canada:
I purchased my Acer Aspire 1410 from Canadian Staples Business Depot. For 5 days I played around with it by booting Ubuntu Linux from SDHC card to make sure it was working correctly, there were no defects, etc, and after making the final decision of keeping the notebook, I picked up the phone and called Acer Technical Support (1-866-706-2237).
After getting a hold for an agent I explained that I would like to get a refund for Windows Vista Home Premium that came pre-installed on my laptop and quoted EULA agreement:

when I try to install the Windows 8 copy I got with my Lenovo S440 in a virtual box environment
the installation procedure hangs on the windows splash screen. I never saw a Windows 8 installation
procedure before, so I booted my laptop from the installation media to check if it is corrupted.
This works fine. A loading dot circle is displayed under the logo after a few seconds and than after quiet
a while the lenovo wizard is shown... so it has to be an issue with the virtual box.

Last night, my system started hanging on the welcome screen (for over 30 minutes), so I attempted a windows system restore to a few days ago. That wouldn't work (I can re try it and advise of the specific error messages)....
I then tried the Alt+F10 erecovery, but again receive an error message when it is almost complete - the message says "windows restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click ok to restart the computer, then restart the installation" ....
The complete factory reset is the only thing I haven't tried, as I'd rather not lose all the pictures and music I have stored on there- is there a way to resolve the issue at all, without completely wiping the hard drive? I have access to other pcs etc to download things and burn them to cd/DVD/memory sticks...

I have changed the Windows power settings so that when I close the lid it goes into hibernate mode. However, when I open the lid it does not start the laptop and restore from hibernation. I have to open the lid and press the power-on button and then it restores from hibernation.
I have a much cheaper Toshiba Laptop that just automatically starts and restores from hibernation when I open the lid. As far as I recall there were no special settings that I changed in order for the Toshiba to work like that, just the setting in the Windows power option that permits hibernation when closing the lid. The Toshiba run Windows 8.0.
Does this model Acer have this feature? If so, how do I set it up to work?
I recently reinstalled windows 8.1 on my laptop as i had cloning problems with my new ssd (crucial mx100), reinstalling windows apparently solved the problem. i had problems with my display (brightness could not be adjusted) that was solved by installing intel's latest drivers using their app as device manager showed that it had the latest drivers. i only have one issue right now, the touch pad lost its multi-touch features and windows 8.1 gestures, is there anyway to fix this? i know it is probably a driver's problem but i can't really find them in device manager and if you can post the link of the drivers.
