Acer Aspire V5-573G :: Adaptive Brightness Won't Turn Off
Feb 21, 2015
I have an Aspire V5-573G with Windows 8.1 and I can't turn off the Adaptive brightness. I tried everything - Advanced power settings, services.msc, Intel HD Graphics Settings (downloaded latest driver from the site - win64_15367.exe) nothing works.
have bought a new Acer Aspire V5 573G without a system software. Now I want to install Windows 7 home premium 64bit on it but it doesn't work. First of all: Is it generally possible to do this? I tried to install it in the recovery mode but there was an error (something with the GPT Partition) so I switched the Mode to UEFI. I have read in other message boards that I have to switch to UEFI csm (compatibility support mode) but I can't find it.
I am unable to disable the adaptive brightness on the i5 HD 5500 1080p version of the new XPS 13.
When I view a dark page, the screen will dim, and when I view a bright page, the screen will get brighter. This is extremely annoying and all the options I've tried have not fixed this issue at all.
Turning off the enable adaptive brightness option in the advanced power settings does nothing. I have this done on all power plans.
The option for disabling it that should be in the Intel Graphics Driver does not exist.
Disabling the Sensor Monitoring Service doesn't fix it either.
I have the latest version of the Intel Graphics drivers. Uninstalling it doesn't fix it either.
Installing another operating system doesn't fix it either, so I'm assuming this is some sort of hardware problem.
I'm currently using Acer Aspire V5-573G, which uses Nvidia GT750M.
Whenever I run games or graphics-intensive program such as the adobe premier pro, the program will continue to run using the Intel HD graphics and not the Nvidia driver.
I've tried changing the settings in the Nvidia control panel to use Nvidia graphics driver for all programs, but running the optimus tool will show me that the Nvidia GPU is not being used for any of the programs.
For a while now the wireless connection on my laptop has been very unstable. I had used it for about six months without experiencing problems, but a month or two ago I started getting very frustated with it.
The wireless can be turned on just fine and has no trouble finding available networks. No problem here. But when I try to connect to one it rarely works, and the few times were it does connect, the internet is incredibly slow. I would say it works flawlessly and fast about 10% of the time. The rest of the time it's like I just explained; it either won't connect or is too slow.
I don't know what suddenly caused this, since it worked perfectly when I bought it. Updating the wireless card drivers didn't work.
According to the solutions I found when I googled the problem, I should be able to disable edge swipe by simply updating the synaptics drivers and turning off "edge swipe" under synpatics settings. However, there is no such setting even with the latest drivers 17.xx
According to a link given as a solution to the same problem, this page was given as a link, and its the same solution I saw on google. [URL] .....
However, I do not have the option to turn it off under settings.
does anybody know how to get the Windows 7 built-in screen brightness control to work with the D830?
Manual brightness control via FN+Up/Down works perfect, but Windows 7 does not offer software brightness control in energy options.
My second notebook (5 years old Toshiba) offers this (you will see a brightness slider when clicking on the battery/energy symbol in system tray). As a result Windows is dimming (not turning off) the display automatically after a few minutes idle time. System is Latidtude D830 with Intel onboard graphics and 1680x1050 screen
I've searched around for how to disable this feature -- it seems completely random and as of today something seems to have changed. Is it possible to disable?

i'm having problems with my new acer v5 touchpad... i made a clean install of windows 8.1 and installed all the win 8.1 drivers from the acer support site. from the device id of my touchpad (ACPISYN1B71) i assumed that it is a synaptics model.
the problem now: after installing several versions of the driver, even trying the alps and elantech versions, i could never manage to get multi-gesture settings in the settings windows from synaptics - there are only settings visible for right- and left-click. where are the multi-touch gesture options for windows 8?
basic funtions work, like left click, two-finger right click and two-finger scrolling, but nothing is configurable and all the other gestures are not available.

before i install the graphics driver, i'm able to adjust the brightness. but after i install the driver(latest from acer), i totally cannot adjust the brightness. is either very dim, or very bright.
i tried getting latest driver from nvidia, but during setup, only HD audio, dont have any display driver to install.
I have had this tablet for less than one week. Under settings in windows 8.1 modern interface is a control slider for the screen brightness. it does not appear to do anything. I would like to be able to change screen brightness suit my needs, but I cannot make this work. What settings I need to change or maybe software I need to update? There is one Acer driver update which does not load properly and always says fail. I believe it has to do with screen settings. Could that be the problem?
Does anyone know how to turn off the beep the function key makes when you change the volume or brightness on the SR model? I have Vista, and the Event Service folder doesn't show up in my program files so I can't change the pi
I just want to be sure my Aspire Switch 10 is working as designed. When you adjust the brightness on your device (any laptop or tablet) in 8.1, how many steps is it from dimmest to brightest? The brightness bar goes up many steps, but after doing function + arrow keys 3 or 4 times im already at max brightness from the bottom. It feels like there should be many more increments of brightness.
I know that the Fn + Brightness key issue on XP has been mentioned in other 1410/1810T threads, but I thought it might be nice to start a thread specific to the problem. After it's fixed we can add it with the other stickies.
I recently installed XP on a coworkers 1810T and because i'm interested in the machine myself i wanted to investigate the brightness issue and see if Acer is working on a fix, or even recognizes the problem.
My correspondence with Acer has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. I was considering using the 1810T laptops to replace our office's aging Lenovos but Acer's lack of support has made me majorly turned me off to that idea.
Here's my discussion with Acer, reverse chronological order (start at the bottom):............................................
I own a 3.5 years old Acer Aspire 5742G (Core i3 M380; NVIDIA540M). the heat sink or the collinig fan might have some issue as it usually gets overheated when playing games (even CS condition zero/1.6). I don't play games anymore, so its not a problem.
The problem is that I am unable to adjust the screen brightness from the keyboars shortcut (Fn+ Left/Right arrow key), neither from the control panel (Power Settings).
Although I do noticed something that, if I change my brightness settings (nothing happens) and I close the laptop lid (display screen) by folding it down and openeing it back after 3-4 seconds, the brightness is now changed.
Screen automatically dims as I go in little dark areas and gets too bright when it has so much light around it. I am trying Fn+ arrow keys but they make very less difference. Is there any way to control this?
I am using Windows 8.1 and display drivers are Intel HD Graphics Family version 10.18.10.3316.
Basically the Fn Button, Left, Right, Up, Down buttons are all working fine. I can adjust the volume of the notebook, but I can't however adjust the brightness of the screen. There is no brightness setting in my notebook whatsoever! Am I missing the brightness driver? what is the name of the brightness driver? Or is it something else. Taking into account that I have decrease/increase brightness symbols on the left/right buttons respectively.
My Aspire E15's brightness is locked at maximum capacity. I can't change it in power options or with the Fn key. It is the same whether connected to the AC adapter or not. While using the Fn key and pressing Fn+Left Key or Fn+Right Key, the on-screen brightness indicator alternates between two levels but the brightness of the screen doesn't change.
I have an Aspire 5552-5898. It has a built in mic in the screen, which I can't seem to disable. I have gone into the control panel and thought I had disabled it under the Sound/recording section, but the **bleep** thing just wont turn off. Driver is apparently up to date.
My laptop recently died on me it won't power on when I press the power button it blinks for less then a second and the led at the bottom that has a light icon does the same. Nothing comes on the screen. I have tried booting with several sticks of ram and 2 different cpus. I'm beginning to think my motherboard is shot.
