Acer :: Drill A Few Holes In The Chassis - Lower The Temps

Sep 6, 2009

I've been thinking about drilling a few holies in the bottom the chassis for air intake on my laptop. First I want to hear your opinion about whether I'm thinking soundly or am just plain crazy.

The underside of my 5536G looks like this: [url]

What appears to be an air-intake right below where the fan should be (right hand side, close to camera), is only a ribbed area in solid plastics. This is where all other laptops I have seen have their main intake holes for air. The 5536G however has to rely on the small intake holes on the hatch to the left (which conseals the RAM) and a another equally small air intake in the front (you can just about see it in the pic).

Now the question is, will I lower the temps by drilling a few holes right below the center of the fan to let some cold air in, or will I completely mess up the chassis airflow which Acers engineers have carefully crafted? As far as I understand, laptops use radial fans, and cold air should be supplied in the center of the fan. The way it is now seems to work against that idea: cold air has to somehow be sucked through the spinning fanblades, not enter it from the center (no hole there!).

I am getting temps around 95 degrees C under load (2.2 GHz Turion), undervolting lowered that to about 83.

Dell :: Methods To Lower Temps On M1530

I get idle temps of 65-70 CPU and 70-75 GPU and gaming temps of 76-80 CPU and 85+ GPU when gaming.

Right now i've been leaning toward the method of spraying all the vents with compressed air, is there anything else I can do that doesn't involve taking apart the laptop?

Which of the three wholes does the fan intake and which does ita exhaust, also can you label the other vents (sometimes vents are fake and actually are just for looks) so ya

It would be great I am guessing intake is the bottom and exhaust is in the back but I am unsure of the vent on the side there too

Dell :: Technician Stripped One Of The Screws By Using A Power Drill

Jan 6, 2010

Today I had my laptop's dvd drive replaced while i was gone to work.

I had someone watching the Dell technician while he was working on my laptop.

After I came home, my friend notified me that the technician used a power screwdriver to remove the screws from my laptop. After I inspected the laptop, I noticed one of the screws is close to getting completely stripped out!

Has anyone ever experienced this before? I don't know what to say, considering they are not even suppose to use a power drill to remove the screws at first place.

Acer :: 6930G Temps

Jul 11, 2009

I'm not really sure if I should be putting this here or make a specific thread in the gaming section to ask specifically about the GPU there.

Anyway, I am looking to find out what the average CPU and GPU temps of the 6930G people are seeing while gaming.

I noticed while playing certain games that my 6930G gets rather hot and while I know notebooks generally run hotter then a desktop I am not really sure if the temps I see are normal or not. I have not seen any real decrease in performance while gaming, nor have I had and other problems with the notebook. I am currently not running a notebook cooler but I will be purchasing one very shortly. The fans and vents are regularly cleaned out.

Here are some temps I am seeing using HW Monitor with my 6930G at idle and during gaming while room temp is 22*C,
Idle
-CPU=46*C
-GPU=55*C
Gaming
-CPU=85*C
-GPU=90*C sometimes hitting a max of 96*C for a second or two

Changing graphics setting in the game have no effect on temps I am seeing.

Oh and the video card in my 6930G is a 9600m GT 512mb GDDR3.

So are the temps I am seeing normal? What temps do you see while gaming with your 6930G?

Acer :: False Temps

May 3, 2010

ive been reading a lot on under-volting on here and temps and i finally decided to dive into it. my only problem seems to be is whether or not im getting accurate temp readings from my programs, it seems every one i use has a different opinion, ive tried real temp, hw monitor, the temps in rmclock and even some other ones i no longer have that i found around the web. the thing that scares me tho is realtemps readings(which i get the feeling are wrong but not when my hands are on my acer)

realtemp comes of with 49c-54c idle and 89c-94c at max load on orthos
but what throws me off is my rmclock and even hwmonitor come up with 34 idle 56-60 max load, which i prey those will be right lol

what bothers me tho most of all is this is after under-volting.

has anyone had innacuracy with one more then the other? i need to get the temp down cause i cant even play games anymore due to the computer randomly shutting off after 20-30 mins of gameplay(wow, aion, crysis)

im almost tempted to going as far as strapping my fan to the bottom of my desk and assentialy turning my desk into an airhockey/cooling pad for my acer.

Acer :: Extensa 4420- CPU Temps

Oct 13, 2008

I have the extensa 4420, today I was in class and I was just typing notes and I noticed that my cooling fan was quite noticable so I turned the fan always on function to "off" and the fan turned off and it was nice and quiet. i watched the temps hover around 38 but when the temps hit 41 (according to NHC) the fan kicked in at a good low speed. the NHC was setting the CPU to stay at 800mhz per core so I was wondering if that is a good temp? I have experience in using thermal paste, would that help lower the temps enough to stay under 41 degrees?

i am wondering if it is normal if my idle temp now after my replacement of the stock TIM and reseating are ranging from 39 celsius up to 45 celsius while its load/slight apps would get these temps to 50 celsius going up to 54 celsius.

Acer Aspire E1-571 :: Fan Not Speeding Up In W7 X64 Despite Very High Temps

Feb 27, 2015

My CPU is hitting around 90°. Inside of the laptop is clean, isn't a dust issue. Could probably do with reapplying thermal paste.

Most likely culprit, however, is the fan is not hitting full speed under Windows 7 x64 regardless of the CPU temps.

It works fine in the BIOS before the W7 splashscreen starts, so it isn't a problem with the fan itself, but as soon as W7 begins booting the speed drops substantially (I can only just tell it's spinning) then stays there. Given Acer's unusual way of handling their fans Speedfan and similar are no use as the fans don't show up.I've updated to the latest BIOS and even tried installing the ePower application, but the problem is still there.

Acer :: Aspire 5536 And WDC Scorpio Blue Temps

Dec 19, 2009

I just got an Aspire 5536 and I'm running some diagnostics on it. While running SpinRite to test the drive I'm seeing HDD temps as high as 58°C!

This is a WDC 320 GB Scorpio Blue drive rated with a maximum operating temperature of 60°C and it's in a brand new machine sitting on the desk (so the vents are clear).

Isn't this ridiculously warm for this laptop? Does anyone else have the laptop (or the WDC 320 HDD) that can give me some comparison numbers?

Acer Aspire V15 :: Nitro Black Edition - CPU Temps High When Plugged In

Jan 8, 2015

Recently I have purchased the Acer v15 Nitro Black Edition gaming notebook. Though I've noticed that not very intensive games are stressing my CPU to about 80-90C, which I am not entirely certain is the norm. This seems to happen primarily when the laptop is plugged in, as temps seem relatively stable when unplugged. I recently turned my CPU power down a bit (to 96%), and that has seemed to keep my temps relatively stable.

I guess my question is: Is this normal? I feel like those temps are way too high, and I fear of burning out my CPU. I am going to pickup a cooling pad today, and start using it when I play games. I am relatively certain my fans are working, but my CPU temps jump around quite a bit. I know gaming laptops are built to get hot, but the last thing I want is to burn my new toy.

Apple :: Lower Resolution On A WUXGA

Jul 13, 2009

question concerning the WUXGA screen on the 17" macbook pro. The questions may sound pretty basic, but I've only got experience with 1280*800 =)

Can i put the resolution of the screen on, let's say 1440*900 if i chose to? Or is it really THAT resolution (1920*1200) that is supported only?

In the case it is possible: does it look like a normal 17" screen with a native resolution of 1440*900

In the case that it is not possible: how small are the letters? I looked at a 15.4 inch screen with 1680*...? and i thought it was pretty OK. Is it comparable with a 17" 1920*1200?

Most of the time the laptop will be used for programming, and a game from time to time (but from experience i know games can be set on lower resolutions, resulting in ugly stuff, just the way i like it).

Dell :: XPS M170 CPU Lower Volume Whine

Jan 6, 2008

I have a 2ghz P-M, 2GB RAM, 7800GTX equipped XPS M170 and never really took attention to this. It has CPU whine, and when you scroll webpages, it slows the scrolling process and emits the higher pitched intermittent whine until you stop, then it resumes a lower volume whine.

It's not really noticable unless in a quiet situation, but it's very annoying to me in such situations, especially because it limits the scrolling speed of pages and things in programs.

I've reformatted several times and i'm pretty sure its either the CPU or GPU whining. Gaming eprformance is unaffected.

Can I call Dell and have them do anyhting about this? I don't have Bluetooth, as some other topics have said works, but I don't think I should have to buy a module to have my CPU stop whining.

Dell :: Lower Resolutions Available In Inspiron 1720

May 10, 2008

Unlike most of you here (probably), I'm an old guy who doesn't run his displays at native resolution. I typically selecting something lower so things are easier to read. My 4:3 machines at home and work are set up at 1024 x 768.

I'm considering an Inspiron 1720 with anti-glare 1440 x 900 display, 128MB NVIDIA 8400M GS card and the standard Dell driver which, according to Dell Downloads, is 174.31 for Vista-32bits. I assume that's the driver Dell would install if I ordered this machine on line today.

I tried chat will Dell sales but, after repeating the question several times, they finally admitted the only thing they could tell me was that I could configure it with 1920 x 1200 glass, the opposite direction from which I wanted to go. They suggested I contact Dell Tech Support, but one can't get through to them without a product code for an in-warranty notebook.

So, here I am asking whether anyone has an Inspiron 1720 configured this way. If so, does that combination of video card and driver permit selecting 1280 x 800 and/or 1024 x 640? I don't want to get stuck with a resolution that results in distortion because it isn't in the screen's native 1.6:1 aspect ratio.
