Acer :: Erecovery / Hidden Partition
Jan 17, 2010
I have an aspire 4930 laptop which came with Vista pre-installed. To cut a long story short I installed windows xp to replace this which has been a total disaster (although the system is still working). I would like to start afresh with vista so need to do a factory reset. I have no recovery CDs.
I can confirm that the hidden partition PQSERVICE is intact. I cannot however run the erecovery software from windows because it was lost along with Vista and as far as I am aware I cannot download a windows xp compatible version.
WinXP over-wrote the ACER MBR so the Alt-F10 command stopped working however I have used a live CD version of GRUB to boot to the recovery partition, sidestepping the need to restore the Acer MBR. When the vista partition boots up Acer eRecovery Management loads, however the "restore system from factory default" and "restore system from user's backup" options are both greyed out.

I made a backup of "something" after the software first installed itself. The set is 2 DVDs for Vista Home Basic.
But what did I really back up? Was it the C drive or the hidden partition?
I ask because, after a number of changes to the C drive, I want to take another backup.
If I use eRecovery, what will I get in the backup?

I have had to recover my Acer Aspire 5103 laptop twice now and on both occasions the Recovery (Alt + F10 at the acer logo) did not work.
I have now reinstalled Windows Vista after formatting and partitioning my hard drive into 3 equal partitions with C and D in NTFS format using Paragon Partition Manager.
That is 112Gb of 120Gb because the recovery software is on the 8Gb hidden partition and I intend to install Linux on the 3rd partition.
how to unhide the hidden partition so that I can format it and merge it with the C drive.
I have downloaded all Vista and Acer drivers and programs so the hidden partition is surplus to my requirements.

I just wanted to know if there was a way to reconstruct the hidden recovery partition with the recovery dvds? The thing is that when i bought the notebook I noticed the partition and thought it was just garbage(how fool), so i totally erased everything, the good thing is that i made the recovery dvds with Erecovery before that.

I'm planning to kick my Aspire 5024 laptop back to the factory settings, but wanted to put one uncertainty to rest.
I understand C partition will be restored to out-of-box condition and it no longer contains anything important, all is backed up. However, I have run out of storage space with backing up the D-partition. The partitions are as they were when machine was bought.
Will Acer eRecovery touch the D: (DATA) partition if I instruct it to restore the factory setup? I have found multiple references saying both yes and no. Part of it is due to ambiguous language ("all files will be wiped" "the HDD will be in the condition you bought it" vs. assurances that D: is safe)

Would an 18 month old Acer 3690 that shipped with VISTA have the option in ERecovery to reinstall the whole OS from the hidden service partition. I know XP versions do, what about Vista ?
haven't got the notebook here... when I upgraded XP to Vista I remember that ERecovery at the time wasn't supported... wouldn't work with NFTS or something according to Acer.

Can the C drive be enlarged?
Can the hidden partition be emptied and made "visible"?
My laptop is rather new, and I noted that the C drive was pretty full already. I deleted many software items and added other software that I needed, but there isn't much left anyway. The D drive is largely empty however. Can the C drive be repartitioned? Is any special software needed to do that?
The hidden partition seems not to be of much use after one has made the 3 DVD factory default backup. Can it be deleted? Made Visible and used for something else?

I got a virus somewhere along the line. Every time I do a factory install it's never right. Can the hidden recovery partition become corrupt? If so, how do I wipe my hard drive clean so I can use the "Completely Restore Coomputer to Factory Default" setting?

Got a Aspire one 722 from mom-in-law. She didn't use it much. Sticker says I have a 320GB HDD but Properties only show 284 GB. How do I recover the lost HD space?
I discovered the space holds MS Office but I can't access Office without purchasing it which I have no need for so this is just a closet full of stuff I don't want and apparently I can't use the storage space either.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop two years old Windows XP 80GB HD
I notice that my C drive has a capacity of 51.2GB while my D drive has a capacity of16.8 for a total of 68GB. Now I know that I should only expect around 74GB due to the decimal vs. binary issue. But I wonder where is the other 6GB (74-68)? After reading many posts, I am assuming it is on a hidden partition. Thus my questions are...
1. If there is a hidden partition, can I get rid of this partition somehow to get me another 6GB? I am pretty much maxed out on HD so I could use every bit of possible. When I bought the laptop, I made sure to get the reinstall disks. So I have a disk that says "Operating System- Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Version 2005 with Update Rollup 2" and a second disk that says "Drivers and Utilities - For Reinstalling Dell Insiron and Dell XPS Computer Software". So I assume that whatever is on the hidden partition is the same as on the disks, and thus I could get rid of the partition. Agree?
2. If folks suggest keeping the partition, or when I run out of HD again, is it fairly easy to add HD GB to the 1505? Again, I have read tons of posts and it seems pretty simple, even for a newbie like me. Is it pretty easy? I'll probably start a different post if I get to this step.

This concerns the Sony Vaio SR 290c model.
Recently I deleted the "hidden" partition that was used to store recovery files. However,
after I formatted the drive, it has not showed up in "my computers." I was wondering
if anyone could advice me on how to basically make the hidden partition become visible on my computer

I have a new FW285DH. The hard drive is 350GB 7200rpm. I found there is hidden 10gb at the first partition for recovery. You can't see that in My Computer. You can only see it in Disk Management. Since I don't need vista any more, I deleted that partition and make myself 10gb more space.
When you do a clean installation of Windows 7, it will force a 200mb at the first partition which is also a hidden partition. I wonder what is that 200mb partition for. There is no such thing in Vista.

I have a Pavilion G7 2223nr. It came with w7, and free upgrade to W8. Was never able to go to W8.1. Caught something bad everything went south. Had to reload win 7 pro, I had the software pack from MS.
I cannot get the computer to reconize anything doing with the ethernet, or the WiFi.
I tried F11 at bootup, and all I get is Computer is broken error code 0000225.
I have lost my HP partition, so I need to know if HP sells a disk that will give it back to me?
If all else fails I just use my tablet until I buy win8, or 8.1. Or I take it to a repair shop. I have been researching this for 2 days, have downloaded all drivers from HP for my computer, and it still doesn't recognize any device.

The only reason I purchased my xps m1710 is that I thought it was the top of the range model at the time, now all I want to do is replace the hd but at the same time retain all the functionality of the hidden restore partition and the media centre partition. You would expect Dell would make this easy for me as the owner and as Dell market themselves as providing user friendly IT solutions.
I have tried using trueimage to clone the drive but when trying the new drive on boot up it gets to the Dell 'blue bar' then freezes. I have tried copying partition by partition but this is even less successful.
I have tried restoring the restore 'ghost' image to the new hard drive but symantec ghost reports incompatibilities with the image file.
I am upgrading my original Samsung hd (SATA) to a new hd and would like to keep the hidden partition and mediacentre partition as my original hd. I have a new SATA hd which is currently connected in a USB enclosure. I am not a hd or filesystem expert and don't want to spend a year studying the goodells website.

The hard drive on my Acer laptop (Aspire V5-552) has 5 hidden partitions. One I expected, assuming it contains an image of the original set up. But what are the other 4? I list them below with what details Macrium Reflect gives;
Recovery – NTFS Primary 255.9 of 400 MB used.
Esp – FAT32 (LBA) Primary 48.6 of 300 MB used
Unnamed, unformatted primary 128 MB
C: - NTFS Primary … main part of HD 496 GB
Unnamed NTFS Primary 337.5 of 350MB used
Push Button Reset – NTFS Primary 12.56 of 15 GB used
OS is Win 8.1 and I'd really like to tidy things up ... it won't give me a lot more space, but it looks a mess and I thought you could only have 4 partitions total?

I have been using my computer for about 4-5 months now, downloaded files and installed applications etc... but I still have not created the Factory Default Disc. Will this mean that whatever discs I burn now include all the programs and files I have right now? Should I restore it to factory then burn the discs? Is it possible to burn the discs without all the bloatware on them?

This guide is made based on an Acer Aspire 5315, but will probably work on other machines with a hidden eisa rescue partition.
This is for everyone who has got problems unhiding and accessing the hidden rescue partition, and have tried all the methods with d2d disabling and changing partition type, perhaps with partedit32 or ptedit32, only to find out that nothing has happened after rebooting.
Download and install "Diskpart" from Microsoft, a small but powerful textbased utility, the link below is a direct download:
[url]
Here's the step by step to succeed...
Press "win + r" to bring up the run window
Type: "cmd", to bring up the command window
Type: "diskpart", a new command window pops up with a "Diskpart >" prompt
Type: "rescan", a configuration check runs
Type: "list disk", a list of the availible disks appears
Type: "select disk 0", if your hidden partition resides on that disk of course
Type: "list partition", to find out with partition is your hidden one (probably about 10 gb and without name).......................

Been trying to do a full system back up on the eRecovery program on my Acer 6935G laptop but during the first disk out of three it gets to 99% and then the whole laptop locks up (I have just read up on google that the Acer program does this anyway to make sure nothing running in the laptop's background gets in the way with the writing process) and after about 5 mins or so the laptop kick in again & I can move the mouse and do things like browse the net again etc but the Acer eRecovery program still sticks at 99% and the DVD drive stops as well but then nothing. Also as well while the program is still running at 99% and the DVD drive stops when I look in my computer I notice that the DVD drive has disappeared and it has also disappeared from the device manager too! when rebooted though the DVD drive seemed to work normally & displayed in my computer again etc.
Last night the same thing happened as well when I made a back up of the Acer drivers & applications through the eRecovery program and it first halted at 99% too and because the system locked up I thought that the whole laptop had crashed so i rebooted the laptop & as well corrupted the writing of the disk so the incomplete disk had to go in the bin. Tried the process again with a new blank DVD and it worked and completed the application & driver back up. I'm puzzled to why it stops at 99% and does not complete but I want to see if this is a common problem or if anyone else has had the same problem? (I know that there are a couple of people on here who have bought this laptop on here recently) I don't want to risk keep trying to do the back up only to waste DVD's. By the way lastly the DVD's I am using are DVD+R's and they are over a year old.

My girlfriend has an ACER Aspire 6330 which needs to be re-install (it was probably infected by a virus, like a trojan). She has the recovery DVD and the hidden partition (around 4GB, but called "ACER" unlike other laptops as I've seen on these forums), she has Windows XP SP2. I managed to format the main partition (the one with Windows normally), but I can't re-install windows + drivers
When using Acer Empowering tools, there is simply no eRecovery Manager icon (only 4 of them, instead of 6). I tried to download the Acer eRecovery tool from their website, but it refused to set-up saying "Error: this system doesn't have D2D" or something similar.
But this laptop do have D2D ability:There is a hidden partition, with a full working-windows
There is a D2D functin on the BIOS (which is activated).
When I tried to use the recovery DVD, it basically copy files somewhere (it seems it's on the hidden partition) for like 1 hour, but the main partition (the one after the hidden partition) is still with nothing on it.
When I start using the hidden partition (pressing Alt+F10 at the Acer screen), it just starts normally from the hidden partition and that's it. It doesn't copy anything on the main, blank one. And Acer Empowering still does not have any eRecovery thing...

I have a new laptop. The system is just now finishing initial configuration. The D drive is empty. After it finished, I want to repartition the C drive to enlarge it.
Do I need to do a eRecovery from the hidden partition, or can I just proceed as normal? (after reboot, of course)

I do not know what happened to ACER TW , but looks that their FTP, was loaded with the most fresh software versions, at list for the older generations of the laptops , other than the very fresh.
I find out that there was one updated version for the eRecovery 1.3.3.9, that many laptops still use, as it is part of the erecovery hidden partition software - utilities.
No were in earth you can find a download about the eRecovery 1.3.3.9.
Or worst ... not possible to find the eRecovery 1.3.9.2.zip as the ACER TW server has close down.
So ... now its my turn to ask for some real help about finding this file.
If some one haves it, i do need a copy.
And no matter what, i must find it.
Last know source about this file, its this link.

I installed ubuntu on my laptop through a flash drive. I then loaded up Super Grub from a CD to remove ubuntu and grub to restore Windows boot menu because I preferred XP, I followed the instructions from Super Grub menu, and I was sent directly to the Acer erecovery. I decided to restart my laptop after that, reset everything in the bios, including boot order, but now my laptop keeps booting up acer erecovery, even after going through the process.

Im trying to do a factory restore using the Acer eRecovery on Aspire 5100 laptop, which I set up using their wizard, input the password, ran from Vista, it has rebooted and is showing the Windows XP logo and the moving "progress" bar thing. However, after about 3 mins, the bar stops moving and nothing else happens, its been like that for ages now. Resetting the power starts it up and gets to the same point and stops again. I have used it before without problems, the hidden partition was there before I started (I checked). Now I cant do anything with the laptop at all! Can anyone suggest what I can do now? I didn't ever get round to making DVD backup disks. The machine is also 2 years old, and I dont want to spend a fortune on Acer's 50p per min customer service, considering they should've given me a boot disk with the machine in the first place. I only wanted to restore it as for no apparent reason all my USB devices stopped being recognized by vista.
