I own an Acer Aspire 6920G. I'm thinking about changing my OS from Windows Vista, to Windows 7. Is there anything I should know, like driver and software problems? Anything I should be ready to fix if I decide to install Windows 7 On this laptop?
I have recently purchased DELL Inspiron 14R 5420, which has preinstalled Windows 8. Later I came to know that some of my software are not working on the Windows 8.
Can I have multiple boots on my system. One Windows 7 and other Windows 8. Or can I create some disk for the installed windows 8 so that in future I can installed it again if I wish to.
Has anyone with the SZ series got the wireless switching utility to work on windows 7. I got everything else to work except that. I tried both the vista driver and xp.
I don't use bluetooth so i prefer to turn it off. But when it's disabled the blue bluetooth light is still lit
I've been contemplating a Mac, too. I recently bought an HP HDX18t, and I'm trying to decide if I want to keep it or get a Macbook Pro 17). The thing that's holding me back is that for essentially the same price as a Macbook Pro with 4 gb of RAm, I have 8gb RAM, a 160gb Intel SSD plus a 500gb hard drive, 18.4" high def monitor that is in the 16x9 format (I can have two IE windows open with no overlap), a Blu Ray burner, QX9300 Quad processors. I also love the full numeric keypad on the keyboard.
My first 3 computers were Macs (SE, IIsi, and Quadra 840AV), and I switched to PC when Windows 95 came out because I was tired of incompatibilities between my Mac and work and college computers. I was also tired of cool apps for the PC not being available for the Mac. Honestly, Windows has never given me any significant problems. Sure, I've had crashes and performance slowdowns, but I had those on my Macs, too. I've never had a virus on Windows. I've really never regretted switching to Windows...........
I own an iPod Classic right now, 160 GB formatted currently for Windows. In iTunes(on Windows) I currently have it set at "Manually Manage Songs and Videos." I'm wondering if when I plug it into my MacBook, if it'll sync my songs in iTunes right away and I'll lose all my songs or if it'll ask me if it wants to sync. I'm just scared because I don't wanna lose the songs I have because I don't have backups.
When I bought my Inspiron 3537 it came with Ubuntu, for business reasons I needed Windows, so I removed Ubuntu and installed Windows 8.1.
Now, I'm considering switching MBR to GPT, I'm 99% sure that my pc supports UEFI and that it will work fine. In order to do that I must clean my whole hdd, that's not really problem because I have backup. What bothers me is this.
There were few extra partitions on my HDD, 350 (empty) partition with no label (it's not windows system reserved) , 3GB partition with label OS. They were put there by Dell.Â
Now, considering that I have to Clean my hard disk using Diskpart, and this partitions will be removed, will I lose something? Some BIOS functionality or something like that? Is it safe to just wipe them out?
I'm trying to upgrade my OS from XP Home to XP Pro SP3. However during the installation process (about 70%)it just switches off and reboots back to the old OS.
The main one is the laptop keeps switching itself [going to powersave HD off mode] off, I have acer epower uninstalled and am using Vista power settings, both set to always on.
I have run all updates etc and even updated USB drivers thinking that could be an issue having read it could cause this.
The second is that I am unable to change boot order in the setup bios, it shows boot order, but will allow no changes, which makes no sense at all! So am unable to boot from any CD!
am fed up of leaving PC working only to find task stopped as its gone to sleep mode!
On another note, the specs for the LT are:
# Processor - AMD Athlon X2 QL-60 / 1.9 GHz ( Dual-Core ) # RAM - 2 GB (installed) / 4 GB (max) - DDR2 SDRAM - 667 MHz ( 2 x 1 GB ) # Hard Drive - 250 GB - Serial ATA-150 # Operating System - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium # Screen - 17' TFT 1440 x 900 ( WXGA+ ) - 24-bit (16.7 million colours) - CrystalBrite # Optical Drive - DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM - integrated # Graphics - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200 - 256 MB # Bluetooth - Yes # Notebook Camera - Integrated
Am I right in thinking this could run 64 bit vista ok?
The monitor on my ACER laptop is broken. I've got an external LG monitor. However I cant view the login screen (on XP) on the broken monitor in order to login and switch monitors. The Laptop has F5 as the key to switch monitors. But fn+F5 does nothing. How can I make the external monitor my main monitor.
Also does anyone know replacing the laptop monitor is it worth the cost/effort? if so approx how much would that be?
Is there some way to quickly change the configuration of the touchpad? My wife and I use the same computer but don't like each others setup. I would be nice if there were some way to easily switch from one configuration to the other.
i havent played games on my laptop in a while and recently decided to start playing games again after upgrading to Windows 7.
I installed the drivers 197.16 for my Nvidia 9500m Gs and started playing Age of Conan.
My laptop seems to be heating up alot and the fan is always on when playing. I have read up alot and have fixed the throttling problem by using Throttlestop. Also i have disabled powermizer through resistry settings. The main problem i have now is after about 15 minutes my laptop just switches off for no reason. I have checked my temps using hw monitor and GPU gets to around 80 degrees which could be the problem?
I got a Acer Aspire 4315 for Christmas this year....
It has been running great , on Vista, untill recently....
I have 2 problems:
1.... When switching on sometimes i get a blank white screen....? I can hear it swithing on, the fan spinning and the windows welcome noise but NO SCREEN! What is going on? This also happens at random times, sometimes i think its when it gets too hot?
2..... My Ac adapter, power suply... When left on fora long time gets very hot? I understand that this is normal... But why does it make a very annoying high pitched noise?
I have a t5750 CPU in my laptop atm (M1530), and I'd like to replace it with a t8300. Before i make a decision, id like to know if it's even possible to do?
I know the bios must recognize both and they need to be the same line or whatever, but a guy i know has a t8300 in the same laptop i do, and he is using the same bios and bios version as myself (A12).
if it is possible to stop the video card from going into 3d clocks for certain applications. For instance, my skin for my computer uses a lot of transparencies and any simple movement of a window causes the video card to go into 3d clock mode. To me that seems like an unnecessary waste of heat for just everyday simple tasks like surfing the internet etc. I'd still want it to dynamically change to 3d clocks when I run a game or something though.
vista crashes , not to mention the bsods, and audio crackling issues and performance drop using it under vistual os. Virtual os was not as snappy as running xp. SO now i say bye bye vista and Hello xp. What are your experiences on xp? Does the machine get as hot as on vista? 65-74c while surfing on the net and listening to music? Does it have the famous audio crackling issues? Is it as buggy and slow as vista? Also what are your gaming temps? Is the fan management working correctly?
So my trusty old Thinkpad crapped out on me last night. I seem to have no power (adapter works, though) so I think the problem is unrelated to the hard drive and that should be okay. I've decided to replace it with a Macbook. In order to get the files off of my completely dead TP--which I'd prefer NOT to put any more money into at this point--can I turn the HD from the TP into an external hard drive and use bootcamp to boot windows from the (now) external HD, then pull files off it it that way?
Also, I read in the Migration sticky that you have to use Windows XP with SP2 and NOT SP1 with an SP2 upgrade. I think I had XP with SP1 and an SP2 upgrade. Even checking out the Windows site, those full versions all only come with SP1. What's the trick?
when I tried to play any sound (details at bottom ). Anyway, I went onto the dell website to get a driver to see if it would fix it. I had to fond this service key thing, and then it told me I needed to get these three things. They were a couple of number with a letter or two in there, meant nothing to me. So I installed one, and it came up with this grid, and the boxes were getting filled in, and then some of the, were red in the middle. My laptop was reeeaaally loud at this point. But then, the power cable went out, and I've had this problem where the laptop loses connection to battery, and it went. So then, my laptop went off. And now when I tried to switch it back on, what happens is the power button lights up, three buttons on the right light up momentarily. But the screen stays black. So then the only things indicating it's 'on' is the power button, and the three lights on the bottom of the laptop, which I have no idea of purpose. Also, my laptop is very very quiet at this point. Anyway, yeah, I've taken battery out, charger out, both out, left both out, put both in, that hasn't solved it.Â
I had been messing around with my playback devices (enabling/disabling) because I had tried using Skype. Originally, I had a problem where my skype calls were coming through my headphones (plugged into the headphone jack), but any other noise, coming through my laptop speakers. I sorted this by disabling my "communications headphones". And then now, I had a problem where I was in a skype call, when everything else stopped producing sound, bar the skype call. So I tried reopening my browser, but nothing, checked iTunes, and the music wasn't playing. So I thought it may have been the skype call. It wasn't, as I ended it, and still no noise was coming through. Then after a few minutes, there was a just this background noise coming through my headphones, like a fan. I noticed that it was coming out of my headphones when plugged in, but also my speakers when unplugged. Also, when I muted sound, the noise stopped, so I thought that may hint at where this problem may occur.
I have an dell m1710 xps and the graphics card has died (again). I know there is an onboard graphics card, and I am hoping/wondering if I can use that to transfer my files off the hard drive.
I thought maybe I should hook a monitor up to the machine, but then I don't know how to access the bios to set which card to use - as the screen is blank. I know there is a way but I cant figure it out.
My m4400 seems to like to lock up while switching users. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does the "Please Wait..." spins away on the screen and it will stay that way forever.
The only way to fix it is to force a reboot by holding down the power button. I'm using Vista Business 64.
Just got my new Z-series laptop last week and I discovered one bit of annoyance. I can crash the laptop consistently by simply using the "Dynamic Hybrid Graphics System" switch.
Here's what happens: - Push the switch over to "Stamina" mode - Reboot the system
- Push the switch over to "Speed" mode - Screen flashes, goes black, then the system crashes instantly and powers off. Sometimes it reboots, but most of the time it simply shuts down .....
After seeing the release specs of the new envy 17 My mind is very torn on if I should sell my current setup (see sig below) and get the envy 17. I love the dx 11 supporting gddr5 ati card but I wonder how much performance I will lose over dual GTX 280m's? I also love the eyefinity support and the USB 3.0 support. Is it hard to adjust from a 1920 x 1200 to a 1920 x 1080?
I am basically looking for some pro's and cons between the two systems. I am also curious what my current system would possibly sell for?
From last 2 days, I have seen that my laptop 3521 Dell doesn't switch on at all. Second thing I have observed is that, when I have my charger connected to the plug point (not connected to the laptop), I see the green light on the charger as ON, but the moment I connect it to the laptop, the light from the charger turns OFF and ultimately, my laptop doesn't charge. I mean no power supplied.
The steps I have carried over so far are -
1) I have tried checking the laptop battery by taking it out and reputing it in the laptop and trying to see if it works, same problem.
2) I have tried checking if everything is okay with the charger, but still the same problem.
MacBook Pros with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M silicon making questionable graphics switching decisions

I have a dell inspiron N5110 laptop. It switches off randomly when i say switches off it doesn't go to the shutdown mode it just switches off. I have run the diagnostics and everything is fine BIOS is completely up to date and there are no heating issues it sometimes switches off right after i switch it on. My warranty has expired .
if everyone else has this problem or there is something corrupt with my windows?
When I switch the graphics to Speed or back to Stamina my system tray icons get bigger and look distorted. The only way to get them back to normal is to go into the appearance settings and set the icons for another size, it will make them small again regardless of what size i make them.
I should add that playing with the captions dropdown item in Advanced personalization just distorts them to a horrible mess.
I spent a couple hours reading through dozens of pages in the 3 separate HP Envy 15" Owner's Lounge threads and couldn't find a definite answer to the following questions--there was usually conflicting info.
In total there's over 1k pages, so despite considerable time spent perusing and searching perhaps I missed a definite answer somewhere in there. So hopefully, it's okay if I ask this outside of those threads for a conclusive answer:
1) Every review I've read mentioned the heat issue with the i7 system. Has anyone read an official review or gathered a consensus from users if the i5 version of the 15" model has lesser heat issues?
2) Does the i5 have graphics switching? And does the i7?
3) The i7 has very short battery life, which dissuades me from getting it. Is the i5 any better? What sort of usage are most i5 owners getting out of it?
im thinking of buying a 2.53Ghz 13 Inch Macbook Pro. Im going to be switching from a E7300 2.66ghz Core 2 Duo PC with 2gb of Ram and Windows Xp. I need something a bit faster then my current configuration and was wondering if the 2.53Ghz Macbook Pro with 4gb of Ram would do me justice. I will be using it mostly for music production, using Propellerhead Reason software, and of course internet use, and HD video. Would I get better performance Switching to the 2.53ghz Macbook Pro?
