Is there some way to quickly change the configuration of the touchpad? My wife and I use the same computer but don't like each others setup. I would be nice if there were some way to easily switch from one configuration to the other.
How to quickly disable touchpad on HP ENVY 15t-j000? Â Â I just got one of the newest Haswell notebook. Â With older HP laptop touch pads there is a spot at the upper left corner to disable the touchpad. Â With the latest Synaptic touchpad on the new ENVY 15t there is no keyboard or touchpad button to disable the touchpad when you are using a mouse.
I have a acer 1414 notebook, when i plug it in and try to get it to post the battery light blinks orange around 8 times, and then stops. i get no beeps, other other lights,.
looking at the configurations of MacBooks offered on Apple's site -- specifically, the aluminum models. The two offered on the linked page differ in terms of processor (2.0 vs 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo) ---- do you think she'd be well-advised to take one over the other?
I'm not sure that the $250 price tag is worth the increase (and yes, I know the default HD goes up to 250 gigs on the 2.4 ghz model, and that model also has the backlit keyboard).
just planning on using the computer for basic computing stuff --- internet, word processing, the occasional presentation that incorporates video clips. She doesn't have any immediate plans to do any video editing or anything else that's super intensive (I assume the basic 2 Gigs of RAM would be sufficient for this as well -- correct?).
I own an Acer Aspire 6920G. I'm thinking about changing my OS from Windows Vista, to Windows 7. Is there anything I should know, like driver and software problems? Anything I should be ready to fix if I decide to install Windows 7 On this laptop?
I'm trying to upgrade my OS from XP Home to XP Pro SP3. However during the installation process (about 70%)it just switches off and reboots back to the old OS.
The main one is the laptop keeps switching itself [going to powersave HD off mode] off, I have acer epower uninstalled and am using Vista power settings, both set to always on.
I have run all updates etc and even updated USB drivers thinking that could be an issue having read it could cause this.
The second is that I am unable to change boot order in the setup bios, it shows boot order, but will allow no changes, which makes no sense at all! So am unable to boot from any CD!
am fed up of leaving PC working only to find task stopped as its gone to sleep mode!
On another note, the specs for the LT are:
# Processor - AMD Athlon X2 QL-60 / 1.9 GHz ( Dual-Core ) # RAM - 2 GB (installed) / 4 GB (max) - DDR2 SDRAM - 667 MHz ( 2 x 1 GB ) # Hard Drive - 250 GB - Serial ATA-150 # Operating System - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium # Screen - 17' TFT 1440 x 900 ( WXGA+ ) - 24-bit (16.7 million colours) - CrystalBrite # Optical Drive - DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM - integrated # Graphics - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200 - 256 MB # Bluetooth - Yes # Notebook Camera - Integrated
Am I right in thinking this could run 64 bit vista ok?
The monitor on my ACER laptop is broken. I've got an external LG monitor. However I cant view the login screen (on XP) on the broken monitor in order to login and switch monitors. The Laptop has F5 as the key to switch monitors. But fn+F5 does nothing. How can I make the external monitor my main monitor.
Also does anyone know replacing the laptop monitor is it worth the cost/effort? if so approx how much would that be?
i havent played games on my laptop in a while and recently decided to start playing games again after upgrading to Windows 7.
I installed the drivers 197.16 for my Nvidia 9500m Gs and started playing Age of Conan.
My laptop seems to be heating up alot and the fan is always on when playing. I have read up alot and have fixed the throttling problem by using Throttlestop. Also i have disabled powermizer through resistry settings. The main problem i have now is after about 15 minutes my laptop just switches off for no reason. I have checked my temps using hw monitor and GPU gets to around 80 degrees which could be the problem?
I got a Acer Aspire 4315 for Christmas this year....
It has been running great , on Vista, untill recently....
I have 2 problems:
1.... When switching on sometimes i get a blank white screen....? I can hear it swithing on, the fan spinning and the windows welcome noise but NO SCREEN! What is going on? This also happens at random times, sometimes i think its when it gets too hot?
2..... My Ac adapter, power suply... When left on fora long time gets very hot? I understand that this is normal... But why does it make a very annoying high pitched noise?
Been having mini wars in my mind pitting HP Envy 15 vs MacBook Pro vs Sony Z. Right now Sony Z's got the edge and my interest, and so these questions:
1. I'm interested in getting the Z with the 512GB SSD. Is ordering this configuration only possible via Sony's site?
At first I thought that to be the case, but then I saw in the several hundred page Sony Z thread, links to Jr.com and Amazon.com where they have the Z on sale in various configurations, but no 512GB SSD .....
I forgot the bios password and i need to enter to the bios menu to change some configurations.my laptop is an HP Pavilion dv4 4172lathe OS is windows 7 64the code appeared is: 62023458. How can i reset the password?
i had a dell vostro 1700 and it booted vista very quickly. The vista bootscreen bar was looping like crazy. i saw a similar thing with a dell precision m4400 ...
I ordered the system in my sig early morning on 3/24. At the time of the order, it was estimated to ship on 4/2 with an estimated delivery date of 4/9. When I called to check the status the next day (3/25), it stated that the order was processing. When I checked again later that night, it said it was shipped on 4/6. I checked the status again the next morning (3/26), and this time it said it was shipped on 3/28 with an updated estimated delivery date of 3/31. Now today, on the 28th, I got the 'order has shipped' email along with the FedEx tracking number. FedEx's estimated delivery date is 3/30.
Anyone have any idea why or how my order could have shipped so quickly? I never did catch it in the kitting/build/testing/boxing stages...and these stages usually take at least a few days. Could I be receiving a recently returned system that just happened to have the same specs? It seems almost unheard of to receive a new system in less than a week after ordering it...especially when considering that they are built overseas and that I picked standard 7-day shipping. Is there any way I can tell if it is a returned system?
My friends and family somewhat jokingly said maybe it's because of my previous order history. I ordered the SXPS 1645 in late November, but later ended up cancelling the order in December due to the throttling issues it was having at the time. When I cancelled the order, it was already in the build stage for a day or two. Could Dell maybe have noticed my history and "rushed" my order this time?
My first mac is almost a year old now. What should I do to keep my macbook pro running quickly? I maxed out my ram, but what maintenance should I do? I have a lot of programs that I don't want to loose by reinstalling OSX.
What does a Quickly flashing yellow/orange battery light mean?
I bought a replacement battery pcga-BP2E for my sony vaio vgn 417M.It ran off the battery and showed it was charging but % didn't go up. Every time I connect the power cable the battery light flashes rapidly and I can't find in any manual what it means.
Using my original working battery the battery light flashes slowly as it should and the laptop works ok.
10 days and I am still waiting for a relpy from the supplier atleast I started my complaint through paypal.
My year old 12-cell HP extended battery for my dv6870 is draining really fast. In 10 minutes it went from 100% down to 70% and all I am doing is browsing. Is the battery shot or is there anything I can do to save it?
UPDATE: From 100% to 7% in 25 minutes. It used to last 2-3 hours!
Lenovo Carbon X1Bought ~2 months ago (new) at a reseller in the USi5 3rd generation @ 1.7GHz4GB DDR3 (soldered on motherboard)128GB SSD (Samsung), must be SATA III (6GB/s) I guessWindows 8 Pro x64Â
Furthermore: +40GB free space on the hard drive Original charger used, always . Laptop was never 'opened' (ie with screws)device mainly used to text editing, browsing and PhotoshopBackground apps/services: Apple iTunes services, Dropbox, Lenovo mouse/trackpad service and startup utilities like Google Update, Java update, Adobe Reader Speed launch.
I do not shut down my laptop most of the times, I simply put my computer in sleep modus (in other words: I close the lid of the laptop)I do play games on this laptop, but of course I do not expect the battery to last many hours when doing so. The battery drains quickly only in 'normal' situations - gaming, video editing and lots of Photoshop do not count of course.Connected to the internet all the time (no 3G, just WiFi)Bluetooth disabled.Â
The laptop is fully charged using the original charger. The power plan is set to Power Saver (image). Brightness is set to around 60% of maximum according to the build in indicator of Windows 8. The apps that are open are Google Chrome ( with 5 tot 15 tabs most of the time), Outlook, Dropbox and one metro apps (weather or the app store).
(full image, click here) Â As you can read, no heavy usage. The CPU is stable between 5% tot 20% and the RAM is at 40% to 70%.
I have my lenovo x230 laptop set to sleep when I close the lid. When I close the lid the "sleep" icon on the back of the screen lights up. But the batter will not last through the night on sleep mode. Within five hours or so, the battery is completely drained and I have to plug in and boot up the system. I've never seen such poor batter performance during sleep mode on any other laptop I've ever owned.  Another thread in this forum blames the USB port that allows you to charge mobile phones/etc. during low-power states and recommends disabling the "always power on" option fo this USB port in the Bios settings. At least my laptop still will not make it through the night in sleep mode.  At this point, it seems my ownly option is to use sleep mode only when the laptop is plugged in and hibernation mode when on batter power, which is disappointing. I've never had to worry about this in the past with other laptops. Perhaps/probably related is the fact that the lenovo ThinkVantage Power Manager (v. 7.16) hangs at the splash screen when I try to open it, so I've been trying to manage the power through the windows control panel power settings.
I have a t5750 CPU in my laptop atm (M1530), and I'd like to replace it with a t8300. Before i make a decision, id like to know if it's even possible to do?
I know the bios must recognize both and they need to be the same line or whatever, but a guy i know has a t8300 in the same laptop i do, and he is using the same bios and bios version as myself (A12).
if it is possible to stop the video card from going into 3d clocks for certain applications. For instance, my skin for my computer uses a lot of transparencies and any simple movement of a window causes the video card to go into 3d clock mode. To me that seems like an unnecessary waste of heat for just everyday simple tasks like surfing the internet etc. I'd still want it to dynamically change to 3d clocks when I run a game or something though.
Has anyone with the SZ series got the wireless switching utility to work on windows 7. I got everything else to work except that. I tried both the vista driver and xp.
I don't use bluetooth so i prefer to turn it off. But when it's disabled the blue bluetooth light is still lit
vista crashes , not to mention the bsods, and audio crackling issues and performance drop using it under vistual os. Virtual os was not as snappy as running xp. SO now i say bye bye vista and Hello xp. What are your experiences on xp? Does the machine get as hot as on vista? 65-74c while surfing on the net and listening to music? Does it have the famous audio crackling issues? Is it as buggy and slow as vista? Also what are your gaming temps? Is the fan management working correctly?
I've been contemplating a Mac, too. I recently bought an HP HDX18t, and I'm trying to decide if I want to keep it or get a Macbook Pro 17). The thing that's holding me back is that for essentially the same price as a Macbook Pro with 4 gb of RAm, I have 8gb RAM, a 160gb Intel SSD plus a 500gb hard drive, 18.4" high def monitor that is in the 16x9 format (I can have two IE windows open with no overlap), a Blu Ray burner, QX9300 Quad processors. I also love the full numeric keypad on the keyboard.
My first 3 computers were Macs (SE, IIsi, and Quadra 840AV), and I switched to PC when Windows 95 came out because I was tired of incompatibilities between my Mac and work and college computers. I was also tired of cool apps for the PC not being available for the Mac. Honestly, Windows has never given me any significant problems. Sure, I've had crashes and performance slowdowns, but I had those on my Macs, too. I've never had a virus on Windows. I've really never regretted switching to Windows...........
