Acer :: Timeline Screen Brightness Goes Up And Down
Aug 8, 2009
i just installed Win 7 RC 64bit.
now, after every drivers/applications installed, i notice screen brightness goes up and down by itself, (it dims then goes back to bright).
This only happens when Power Saver button is pressed (lit green).
It did not do this with Win 7 32bit.
i assume, it is power saving feature interfering with win 7's power scheme.
Kinda cool.. but just wanted to know anyone else is having this *cool* trick..
When I unplug (go to battery power), the green battery-light-led goes on and overrides the brightness-settings I do with Windows 7. This means whenever I plug-in or plug-out the brigthness gets reset to some value that Acer thinks is 'right' for me. I would like to decide myself what is right for me, but can't find out how.
What makes it worse is that at first it works like:
Which is reasonable. However, after pluggin-in/out a few times, it goes all screwy. For example: unplugged becomes 50%, plugged-in becomes 10%, or some other seemingly random non-sense-making values. So, I would like to get rid of this.
Pressing the green led when it's on makes it go off and seems to give brightness-control back to windows-settings. However, as soon as pluggin-in and plugging-out again, the green led comes on again. Argh.
I read some other threads about similar issues, but people would always have Acer ePower Management or something installed. I do not. This happens on a fresh clean install of Windows 7. Bios is up-to-date. Happens in every power mode (saver/balanced/performance).................
I bought a 3810TZ with SU2700, but I have noticed that when on battery power and brightness set to low, the brightness of the screen would change automatically by itself according to the background. for example, the screen would darken if you have something dark open on the screen, and the screen would become brighter if you have a web page that's mainly white. Is this a feature in windows vista, or is the LCD screen defective?
I used the upgrade kit from Acer to do a clean install of Windows 7 to my Timeline 1410. Everything works great and I love this laptop... except that the brightness controls (Fn+Left/Right Arrow) do not work. It's locked at highest brightness.
I am at my wit's end trying to figure this out.
I have installed all the Win 7 drivers from Acer's site, particularly
When I first boot it up, the brightness controls work fine during the BIOS steps. But once Windows takes over, the controls no longer function. In the Windows Mobility Center, there is no brightness control panel. [FWIW, my Dell, which does have functional brightness control, doesn't show one either.] All other Fn-combinations, like volume control, work fine.
Im not sure if other owners of this laptop have this problem, but the screen display has a blue tint to it. Ive tried adjusting the color in the graphic property, but i can never seem to get it right so the colors on pictures are never accurately depicted when compared to my other laptops or monitors.
One is marketed as business-grade, another is consumer-grade. Both look very similar and I am not sure if the materials used are any different. So tell me, as I am preparing to buy my next laptop.
I set the power options to 50% brightness then click save changes and reboot, the display stays at 50% until about 30 seconds after i see the desktop and then the brightness goes to 100%
I have the brightness in the INTEL graphic properties, colour correction and brightness is set to -60 as low as it will go, and it says like that after reboot but the brightness still goes to 100%
Windows mobility center brightness does not fix the brightness either.
I own a 3.5 years old Acer Aspire 5742G (Core i3 M380; NVIDIA540M). the heat sink or the collinig fan might have some issue as it usually gets overheated when playing games (even CS condition zero/1.6). I don't play games anymore, so its not a problem.
The problem is that I am unable to adjust the screen brightness from the keyboars shortcut (Fn+ Left/Right arrow key), neither from the control panel (Power Settings).
Although I do noticed something that, if I change my brightness settings (nothing happens) and I close the laptop lid (display screen) by folding it down and openeing it back after 3-4 seconds, the brightness is now changed.
Screen automatically dims as I go in little dark areas and gets too bright when it has so much light around it. I am trying Fn+ arrow keys but they make very less difference. Is there any way to control this?
I am using Windows 8.1 and display drivers are Intel HD Graphics Family version 10.18.10.3316.
Basically the Fn Button, Left, Right, Up, Down buttons are all working fine. I can adjust the volume of the notebook, but I can't however adjust the brightness of the screen. There is no brightness setting in my notebook whatsoever! Am I missing the brightness driver? what is the name of the brightness driver? Or is it something else. Taking into account that I have decrease/increase brightness symbols on the left/right buttons respectively.
I am having an issue with my Acer Aspire V5-431P-4653 running Windows 8.1, namely, I cannot adjust the screen brightness at all. It seems to arbitrarily select a brightness level upon start up and from that point I cannot change it via the Fn and directional keys or through the control panel power settings. I have owned the laptop for a year and a half and this problem began roughly a week ago.
Of note, when I attempt to use the Fn and directional keys the brightness icon that pops up stays at the frozen brightness level - it does not move at all. In contrast, when I open the power settings and attempte to change the brightness from there, the brightness slider will move wherever I drag it, but the screen's brightness itself does not change. At startup the screen's brightness may be at full, minimum or somewhere in between - but regardless it will not adjust.
I updated the BIOS to 2.26 a while ago and ever since then there's no on-screen indication of caps lock on/off, screen brightness or volume when I change it. Since it seemed to be affected by BIOS, I updated again to 2.27 just now, but the problem persists. I needed to update the Hotkeys Feature Integration by downloading the utility thingy from this page. Probably wasn't a BIOS thing after all.
i have the RGBLED screen and i was wondering how do change the settings on how bright the screen should be on different settings like power saver and high performance or when its running on battery or not.
I have a Dell Latitude E6400 and am extremely happy with it as I've had no major problems with it so far (touch wood), but just last week, the screen started to go dim and then bright, really annoyingly.
I can tell it must be to with the sensor thing below the screen as when I put my finger over it, it goes dimmer.
I have a Dell Ultrasharp 1707FP. It is connected via DVI. I was looking at the on screen options, and i can only adjust the brightness.
My whites looked kinda yellow, and the whole screen did not really look that bright. but it still looked good, as i was very happy with it.
So i adjusted the brightness from 75 to 90, and it looks alot better, as now the whites are white and colors are also bright yet the dark colors are still dark.
i am using my TT in the dark, once i turn the lights off in my room, the screen becomes dim. So it kinda makes it hard to see the keyboard. So i have to turn the lights on so i can see it clearly, how can i prevent this?
I have checked the power plan and i have all of them set up to maximum brightness. I just want the screen to remain as bright as it does when the lights are on. It was dim when i purchased my TT a few months back. Then i did a restore and it was cool. Then i did another restore and it went back to being dim. This was even though the restores when done were the exact same to a tee. I didn't mess with any settings.
I just got a z11 and will be returning my macbook pro soon.
The only thing that is making me hesitant is the screen brightness of the z. With the plug in and full brightness, it's not that bright, at least NO WHERE NEAR as bright as the macbook pro with high res anti-glare. Is this normal?
How many of you Z owners find the screen brightness too low? Even at full, it feels dim.
I have been very satisfied with this purchase, however, after installing either vista service pack 1 or the nvidia drivers for my graphics card, the screen has significantly dimmed to the point where even max brightness is almost unusable. Before it was very bright, and this is a brand new display put in yesterday... so I know it's not a hardware flaw. What do you think is causing this, and how can I fix the problem short of restoring again and either foregoing SP1 or my videocard drivers?
this thread is for all Acer Timeline owners who suffer from 100% CPU load, when only thing that helps is restart.
1. If you are a Timeline owner - having this problem or not, please do report here, what model you own and tell us how is this happening for you.
2. Please inform Acer about this, so they know and can offer a solution (especially if you're from United States as this will have greater impact rather than me telling this stuff to Slovak Acer service)
Alright, this is what I got so far about this thing: -CPU will just go nuts at no specific time (idle, browsing, ...) -Proccess explorer shows 'Hardware Interrupts' as source of 99.9% of CPU power -unlogging won't help, only restart does -updating BIOS doesn't help -uninstalling acer epower managment doesn't help, even though it seems making these episodes less frequent somehow
Mine notebook is: 5810T with SU3500 and GMA 4500MHD.......................
I've got an Inspiron 1420 running vista ultimate. I've had some bug issues in the past where I would set the screen brightness to 100% in both battery mode and plugged-in mode and it will still look dim but those issues always got resolved after a reboot.................................................
