Acer :: USB Ports Lost Power (5720G)
Sep 14, 2009I have an Acer 5720G. I have lost power on the 4 USB ports.
All work okay if I use a powered hub so it looks like its just a power issue. How can I get them working properly again?

Apr 25, 2009I did install HP newly released updating sp42660, but all docked usb ports are stll not in function. It might be caused by the previous MS Update HX2LP Kit, but i could not find the removing way for it now.

Acer :: Aspire 5630 Power To All USB Ports Stays On
Nov 20, 2009I have an Acer Aspire 5630 and the USB ports do not go off when Windows is shutdown, hibernating or when it goes into slleep (standby) mode. They only go off when I disconnect the AC power. I just bought an external USB drive as my internal is almost full, but I don't want to have the external drive on 24/7. Disconnecting the drive is a bit inconvenient as I use the laptop with an external display and keyboard and keep the laptop itself hidden behind my desk. I updated the BIOS to Ver. 3.60, but I don't see settings in the BIOS for USB ports. Can these ports be turn off programatically. Do I need a special Acer Application or drivers to turn off the USB ports? I removed all the Acer Management bloatware that came with the laptop. Are there any jumpers inside the laptop that need to be changed?

Mar 2, 2009about three weeks ago i noticed the two usb ports on the left side of my laptop were turning devices off intermittantly but i put this down to a problem with the device in question which is a mobile broadband dongle. i then looked into this further as i have tried the device on another pc and it works flawlessly.
i have found now that these two usb ports are almost dead in that they will power a mouse but if i plug in anything else like a usb memory stick or mobile phone or camera both ports just shut off. the odd thing is that they appear active in device manager and show no problems but the devices i have plugged in do not connect to the laptop at all. i have used a set of recovery disks to reset to factory default which did not help.
now the real problem i have found is that there is no recovery partition on my laptop and after ringing acer support they seem unwilling to help with diagnosing simply saying that as the recovery partition was gone the warranty was void and there would be a charge for any repair. what if there was no recovery partition to start with!
my laptop has not been tampered with as the acer support person stated but as far as i can see it never had a recovery partition or for some reason this partition has gone as i had to get the recovery disks off a friend who has the same laptop. i used to have two partitions on my hard disk Acer(C) and Data(D) but now i just have one 74.5GB hard disk.
has anyone got any ideas on what has gone wrong with my laptop or how to get the usb ports working as the partition is not a real problem except for Acer! the tech asked me to reset to factory settings using the recovery partition but i cant so that was the end of acer's support.
Acer :: Lost Power During System Restore Now Won't Load To Login Screen
Dec 17, 2008Due to what I thought were issues with SP1, I uninstalled it. Finding it not to be the case and that the uninstall left my machine somewhat "stuttery", I set it up for a system restore and went to bed. About eight hours later, I checked it and it was still restoring! I figured it had locked up (it's done this before) so I powered it off. Dumb move, I know.
Now, though, I try to start windows but it the screen gets stuck on black before it loads up the glowing windows logo. It will do the loading animation but that's it. I've tried loading Windows from CD but it doesn't make a difference. It loads the files with the DOS-like loading screen, then does the exact same thing.
I've also tried to get it to start in Safe Mode. I push the key to get there but the start-up selection screen only flashes before going right into loading Windows normally.
Please, I don't know what to do and I desperately need this machine to get anything done. It's just outside of warranty, so if there's any way for me to fix this myself I'd like to try.
Some things I've wondered about:
1) Is there a for sure way to get into the start-up selection screen?
2) Can I format the HDD with FDISK and then load windows from my vista cd and have it reinstall?

But the card doesn't work, my notebook just "beep" and the display remains black.
I'm wondering because the card is in the list for my notebook, but it is an MXM1 and my notebook has an MXM2.

Oct 25, 2008I have a Acer Aspire 5720G, with a Geforce 8400M GS graphics card apparently, i have every other driver installed for xp. The only one i cant seem to get to work is the graphics driver. I have tried Google and downloaded numerous drivers but i cant seem to find one that will work, they all either wont install because they don't recognize the hardware, or with custom inf's from laptopvideo2go they install then when i boot windows, then say they're incompatible and have reverted back to the default VGA drivers.

Jan 27, 2013I have a Dell XPS M1530 laptop and suddenly it started showing a pecular behavior. Wifi works properly when the laptop runs on battery. The moment I connect the adapter and power the mains on, it looses the connectivity and it newer shows any wifi connections available. When I remove the ac power external internet is lost. The wireless connection still appears to be up but there is no traffic. I cannot ping anything when this occurs.
The only way to get this up and running again is to
1. insert ac power
2. restart the dhcp client service (sometimes have to do this more than once). The service hasn't stopped, but for some reason this gets it up and running.
I have also tried disabling the "allow computer to turn off this device to save power". But this did not work....

Jun 18, 2009Before I get grilled for not backing up my documents, I want to say I did, I just forgot about the files in my PSD ( i know of all files to forget).
So I sent my laptop in for repair, comes back they have done a clean install of windows.
I got my laptop back this morning and when i started to transfer my back up files back over i remembered that i forgot to back up my PSD files. Is there any chance of recovering them after a reinstallation of windows? with my knowledge the answer would be no, correct? Hopefully there is some lifesaver out there that knows how to get them back. Awaiting replies and hoping for the best.

Acer :: Windows 7 Has Lost My Partition
Jan 20, 2010Booted up my 6920 this evening and I don't have a drive D: anymore! I checked the disk management utility and it's showing the drive as an healthy OEM partition, with no drive letter. Right clicking the drive only gives me the Help option for the DMU, so I can't assign a letter or do anything with the drive - even format it!
I don't actually want to format it, of course. I want the drive letter back.
So far, I've tried a Windows System Restore to a checkpoint yesterday (when I last accessed the drive), but that's not sorted it.

Jun 16, 2009I'm running an Acer Aspire 5672 WLMI. Recently i upgraded my RAM and hard drive, obviously having to reinstall the OS and driver's etc. Since i made the change, i haven't been able to get the Orbicam or usb ports on the left side of my computer to work.
Luckily there are still 2 ports on the right side that work fine, and the entire rest of the computer is great, but i'd like these things to work (especially the camera). I've re-installed everything 3 times at this point with no luck. The drivers are installed and in programs the camera is listed as an optional webcam. The first time i reformatted i got and error message that said camera is currently in use and cannot be accessed. It would ding on and off repeatedly until i rebooted the computer. Currently what the camera does is basically nothing. It's detected, but when pulled up in a program (such as gmail or acer software) it's simply black. I am wondering if i maybe jostled something inside and it's disconnected or if this is a software issue.

Jan 26, 2015I purchased an Aspire E5-511 about a week ago. At first, I had no problems with the USB ports and what I plugged in would be recognized and work, but now none of them will recognize anything that is plugged into them. This is for multiple devices that work on other computers, so it is not the devices, and obviously it's not the hardware if all 3 simultaneously stopped working. Googling the problem has led nowhere. Additionally, the webcam used to come up automatically in the "Camera" app; this no longer works either and it says "To get started, connect a camera." I have restored the system back to factory defaults, had all files deleted and re-did the entire initial process all over again, to no avail.

Acer Aspire One D225e :: Lost WiFi Connection - Can't Get Back On
Dec 25, 2014I've been using my netbook at my local library for 3 years. Acouple weeks ago, all of a sudden it lost contact with the library's wifi connection. The librarian tried everything he knew, no results. I later borrowed a laptop from the library, looked up fixes, tried them, but they didn't work.
Here's what happened: Got a padlock with a window saying failed to connect to a Windows service. The dependency service/group failed to start. A troubleshoot resulted in a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it, saying network proxy settings can't be detected, though it also says detected.
Trying the fix on Acer support--checking to see if TCP/IP is working right--resulted in an error message, TCP/IP improperly installed.
Trying rewriting the registry keys didn't work.
Ditto the remove/reinstall network driver adapter.
Finally it said if this doesn't work, there's likely a hardware problem.
