The buttons(email,e-management,internet) above my key board quit working,my volume bar will not show up on screen,and some of my symbol keys will not work.I've tried checking my settings and restore to a previous time that I knew the computer was working correctly.
View 10 RepliesAbout a week ago, some serious problems happened to my TravelMate 3280 to the point that booting in safe mode doesn't even work. I couldn't access the eRecovery Management either and didn't any recovery DVD.
So finally, I reinstalled windows XP SP3 from scratch. As a result, the computer didn't have Acer eRecovery Management installed. I still prefer the original factory settings though. So I browsed around online forums and found a thread by Pupples at Install Factory default, eRecovery
I did what Pupples suggested, managed to restore the alt+F10 function, and entered the Acer Recovery Management during start-up. Then, I chose the Restore Factory Settings option.
The restoration process began smoothly until about 50-60% progress when an error message occured. It says:
Fails in creating or opening a file
C:preload.tag
D:preload.tag
X:preload.tag
After those messages, the computer booted again from the beginning and then entered a black screen with a writing on the top of the screen. The writing:
NTLDR is missing. Press any key to continue.
I pressed any key, but the same NTLDR message kept on re-appearing.
Does this have anything to do with the FAT32 or NTFSthing?

My original problem was to burn the recovery disks, as the recovery manager software couldn't see the recovery partition. That's because when I first bought the notebook I wanted to divide its hard disk into several partitions, but that was not the mistake....The mistake was using Partition magic to do so....
It messed with my partition table (I guess).
However, I was able to retore the "LINK" between the recovery partition and the recovery manager software by applying the recovery partition's boot sectors of a friend of mine with a similar laptop on mine.
That was done after alot of MBR experiments to find out how to fix that problem.
So now I can burn the recovery disks, but I wont. The reason is that I want to be sure that the recovery partition functions properly before applying the "ONE TIME" burning process...............

take apart my 5920g to check if the keyboard ribbon needs replacing or if the connecter has come loose. My wife and daughter had somehow set this password up. before this I could not get windows 8 to open without a password. I do not have either of the required passwords. Just to preface this, everytime i restart my HP Pavillion dv6 laptop, it freezes on the HP logo on the boot up. This freezing only occurs when i restart, if i manually shut it down and turn it on the boot up progresses normally.
So i have tried to restore my computer to factory settings by using the recover manager and the recovery manager requires the laptop to be restarted. However, the laptop freezes on the restart so i have to shut down the laptop manually and turn it back on. This interferes with the recovery manager and i get an error that recovery manager was not properly able to restore my computer.
I have also tried to press F10 on the boot up to enter restore mode. However, when i hit f10 my screen goes completely black. The fan and the laptop are running but the screen goes blank. How i can restore my laptop.

Unfortunately the F8, F11, F12, and all other F options do not work for me (something about a deleted partition??). Soooo, I am trying to locate the discs to use to do this action. I have heard that those are free under warranty, but my computer is from 2007 so is obviously not under warranty. This would solve all my problems as I only really use F1 to F6 in windows and would like to be able to use the multimedia keys at the same time without having to change the function key behaviour in windows mobility center.
