Dell Latitude E4200 :: BIOS HDD Password Bypass Option Not Working Properly?
Jun 16, 2011I’m testing some E4200s (with SED SSDs and regular SSDs) and have run into a possible bug with the HDD password “bypass” option in the BIOS. The “bypass” option in BIOS allows you to specify if the HDD password needs to be entered during warm boots (restarts), standby, etc. I’ve set it to “disable”, which means that the HDD password must always be entered (even for restarts). However, the E4200 does *not* prompt for the HDD password during warm boots (restarts). It correctly prompts for the HDD password during cold boots and standby/hibernate only. I’ve tried upgrading the BIOS to the latest version (A13 to A20), but that didn’t work.
At this point I think it's a bug in the BIOS. I've tried this with different e4200 laptops and different drives (regular SSDs, and self-encrypting SSDs).

Changes made to system that caused issue to occur:
Laptop was stolen from car two weeks before Christmas, but was recovered by police and returned to me a month later. Upon retrieval of laptop, the battery was dead and the power pack/cord & mouse wasn't returned with the laptop. I had a dell power pack/cord that fit and used to turn on the computer. A black screen appeared with a blue box asking to "Enter Administrator Password or Power On Password." After 4-5 attempts to enter the password that was set for windows, the system disabled itself. I would have to remove the battery and plug in power cord to reset the computer which continues to ask to "Enter Administrator Password or Power On Password." I do not want to restore or reset the computer by losing all my personal data that was stored prior to it being stolen. Is there anyway to override this or is there a "generic password" to use as a bypass this screen to get it to operate and back to the Windows login screen?

Acer :: Travelmate 4010 Power Cord/jack Not Working
Aug 9, 2008Travelmate 4010. I've had it for about 3 years now, and over the past *thinks* 6 months or so the power cord had been replaced twice because it broke. But it wasn't really the cord itself that broke the first time. Something inside the jack is broken and now the cord (a new one) has to be positioned just the right way so it doesn't switch to battery mode. I use it mostly on my bed, which probably doesn't help, but at one point I had to have it on a desk with the cord taped to the lid so it wouldn't move and kill the battery (which doesn't last that long). I couldn't even close the lid so I just had the monitor shut off after a minute. but I did get a new cord and started using it on my bed, storing it underneath when I'm not using it. After a while, though, the cord started to do the same thing and now I'm sitting here trying not to move on the bed too much so it doesn't disconnect. I'd like to get a new notebook, but I can't afford it.

On Sunday evening after it coming out of sleep mode it asked me for a password? as I haven't set one and couldn't supply it with what it wanted it comes up with the message System Disabled ( 01576 ) anyone with the same problem or is there a default acer password.
I cannot access anything or boot windows as the first thing it does on start up is ask for this password.

Mar 10, 2009what i did, was i downloaded the Windows 7 Beta Testing thing, and it completely overwrote my Windows XP, and now i have no operating system, i do have a reformat disk, but the acer aspire one has no cd/dvd drive!

Dec 25, 2009I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 through a clean install. Now I must have enable something I didn't want to because now it asks to put a password in before it boots. I know the password, that's not the problem.
The problem is I'd rather not have it ask me, and there's always a danger of it locking up on me if it gets input incorrectly.
So my question is, how do I turn it off? I did a clean install so I don't have most of the crap Acer throw in, including eManagement Settings, which I heard may have the solution to my problem. I only have the Acer Bio Protection, the fingerprint reader, and I tried turning it off there, but to no avail.

Oct 7, 2008Is it at all possible to override or bypass the manual wifi button on the top of an Acer Travelmate 240 laptop?
I have an MSI 6833 mini pci wireless card fitted into my laptop which is recognised by windows and showing as working OK.
The problem is that I can't turn the antenna on for the card.
It appears that the wireless button across the top of the keyboard does not recognise the card.
The wifi button flashes on briefly at boot up, but then remains permanently off.
I have looked everywhere for a solution to this but had no joy...including Acer support who were totally useless.
I am running Vista SP1, everything else works great with no problems.
Using a pcmcia wireless card, I can connect without any problems, but it would be easier to use an internal card.
