It's really annoying that I have to sign in with my password every single time my computer wakes up and/or restarts, etc. Is there a way to bypass that initial password when I'm the only one that uses the computer? It's an Aspire V5 572P 4824, Windows 8.1 64 bit.

I can't figure out how to get me screen back, thought it was a lighting issue and tried Fn and the left and right arrows, but that doesn't work. Usually end up rebooting and losing what I've been working on.

Changes made to system that caused issue to occur:
Laptop was stolen from car two weeks before Christmas, but was recovered by police and returned to me a month later. Upon retrieval of laptop, the battery was dead and the power pack/cord & mouse wasn't returned with the laptop. I had a dell power pack/cord that fit and used to turn on the computer. A black screen appeared with a blue box asking to "Enter Administrator Password or Power On Password." After 4-5 attempts to enter the password that was set for windows, the system disabled itself. I would have to remove the battery and plug in power cord to reset the computer which continues to ask to "Enter Administrator Password or Power On Password." I do not want to restore or reset the computer by losing all my personal data that was stored prior to it being stolen. Is there anyway to override this or is there a "generic password" to use as a bypass this screen to get it to operate and back to the Windows login screen?

Well I set a power on password on my HP (I think its a Notebook...) and then the next day, I was stupid enough to not write it down, I forgot it.... I’m testing some E4200s (with SED SSDs and regular SSDs) and have run into a possible bug with the HDD password “bypass” option in the BIOS. The “bypass” option in BIOS allows you to specify if the HDD password needs to be entered during warm boots (restarts), standby, etc. I’ve set it to “disable”, which means that the HDD password must always be entered (even for restarts). However, the E4200 does *not* prompt for the HDD password during warm boots (restarts). It correctly prompts for the HDD password during cold boots and standby/hibernate only. I’ve tried upgrading the BIOS to the latest version (A13 to A20), but that didn’t work.
At this point I think it's a bug in the BIOS. I've tried this with different e4200 laptops and different drives (regular SSDs, and self-encrypting SSDs).
My laptop was working but then when i powered up the first screen that shows is it wants a HDD password. can not start windos 7.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a dell inspiron 1300. Lately the screen has been blacking out randomly or when the screen is tilted - system still up and running, just the screen going out.
When you close the lid and open it back up, the screen will become active again. Same goes for if you hotkey it to standby and back up - screen's back for a short amount of time.
This leads me to believe there is an issue with the mechanism that shuts the monitor off when one closes the lid.
I thought I remembered seeing a cmd line for disabling that mechanism in a forum, but can't find it now that I need it (of course).

I have an MSI 6833 mini pci wireless card fitted into my laptop which is recognised by windows and showing as working OK.
The problem is that I can't turn the antenna on for the card.
It appears that the wireless button across the top of the keyboard does not recognise the card.
The wifi button flashes on briefly at boot up, but then remains permanently off.
I have looked everywhere for a solution to this but had no joy...including Acer support who were totally useless.
I am running Vista SP1, everything else works great with no problems.
Using a pcmcia wireless card, I can connect without any problems, but it would be easier to use an internal card.

i tryed going into the BIOS to try and see if i can boot from my flash drive, but guess what? the BIOS is asking me for a password, i never even set a password.

I sent the notebook repairs and I already got it back and working...almost...completely as new.
I wanted to format the notebook and reinstall the necessary programs. This way I can get rid of all the stuff I don't need/want.
The problem is that eRecovery from the eEmpowerment tools needs a password to start the formatting. Normally if you don't fill in a password in the first place then there's no password needed when you want to format the system.
In my case, the notebook asks for the password anyway so my question is this:
How can I format my notebook (using eRecovery or another application) without the password?
