Acer :: Travelmate 4001wlci - Laptop Just Went Blank
Dec 18, 2008
I have an older travelmate 4001wlci and yesterday I was watching a DVD when the screen just froze. I tried everything but the HDD light didn't even blink so I had to hard shutdown.
When I tried to restart the power light comes on and the DVD drive light comes on for a minute as if its trying to read something, but none of the other lights come on. I can't hear the hard drive spinning either and there's no POST. The screen is completely blank. I tried an external monitor and same results, nothing on screen.
For the last several months I have not taken the laptop anywhere so I've had the battery removed and plugged directly to power. Since a year or so, I've removed windows and running mandriva on it without any problems.
For a while, I've had two lines vertically on the screen so I knew the screen or the cable is coming to an end soon, but this doesn't seem like a screen issue.
Do you guys think my motherboard is gone? If so, what is the norm in dealing with this? I don't think it's worth sending this to acer to fix if it's the motherboard considering I don't have a warranty.
The charger works fine, when pluged into the laptop the light is orange, as soon as we press the power button to turn it on, the orange light goes off, if i press the power button and let go straight away, the light stays off for 5 seconds, if i hold the power button the light stays off for around 9-11 seconds, now the shop we went to says it's a connectivity problem, and i was looking around and i was thinking about the power jack (i'm not big on laptops, more of a desktop kind of guy, so if it doesn't have one lol at me!). Anyway, i'd love to know if anyone knew or had a way of knowing what my sisters problem is, as she'd like to sell this laptop, but needs to clean her HDD of school work and general stuff that she has on it before selling it, and would prefer it to be fully working before sending it away.
Interested in Acer TravelMate P246-M-53T2 14" Lpatop and want to upgrade it to an SSD, is it straight forward to swap the drives or is the harddrive embedded to the board?
Recently, the screen on my laptop goes blank, then after a few seconds returns to normal with a message that the display driver stopped working but has recovered. Â Is there a possible solution to stop this happening?
When I plug power, battery indicator bulb indicating and when i press turn on button on laptop, suddenly battery indicator bulb turned off and laptop wont start. then i removed battery and install it again. then again battery indicator bulb indicating. this sequence happening again and again. what could be the reason.....
1. Is their any unofficial, modded, or good BIOS for this laptop? I currently have 3508
2. Is their anyway to update the graphics card bios for this laptop?
3. Does this laptop support Bluetooth? I heard it did, and I heard it didn't.
4. Is there anyway I can control fan speed?
5. If I'm using the back USB ports of my laptop, and repeatedly plug and unlpug my speakers from the wall plug, my USB devices turn off for a quick second and come back. Is this normal?
6. On the front of my laptop, I have 3 audio jacks. I have no idea what the 3rd one does.
7. Is their anyway to use the € and $ keys on my laptop without Launch Manager?
8. I have 2 switches on the front of my laptop. 1 For Bluetooth and 1 for Wifi. So if I didn't have bluetooth, what would the bluetooth swich do even? (Related to question 2)
All of the diagnostics have been run, multiple times to determine the BIOS light flash count blank screen issue, and all other suggestions run, including an additional monitor, with no success.  Hard drive, disc drive, everything works, or at the very least sounds like it is attempting to work as required on start up, just a blank screen. Final diagnostic points to the video card as the culprit? With all of the new systems available around $300, would like to know if it is the video card, and if it is worth the fix or just purchase an entirely new system?  G61-511WM Windows 7
I've had my Studio 1537 for about a year and once in awhile my laptop screen goesblank after my computer restarts or if I turn my laptop on. This happened to be about 10 times (the first time I spent about 3 days on the phone with a technian) already and I always have to reinstall Windows Vista to get my laptop working again. Today I found out that whenever my computer updates my video drive my screen will go blank, is this normal? What I can do to prevent this from happening again? My screen also goes blank when I install a video driver from the dell CD, but when I uninstalled it in safe mode and restart my laptop my screen is no longer blank.
I turned on my computer today and the Resuming Windows notice came up followed by Dell logo which I clicked on and the screen went blank. Have tried obvious things like disconnecting from mains power and switching back on with no joy. Â
When I boot my laptop the screen stays blank. You here the start up but screen still black as if not started. The blue symbol on F4 key lights up a 9 in a lock!! How I can get the screen to work?
I am currently using windows 8 as my OS. When I attempt to start my laptop the Dell logo flashes on the screen and the screen turns blank/black and sits there for a few min before displaying an empty bar and F12 Boot Options in the bottom right hand corner.
I have attempted to press F12 to try and load windows in safe mode but everything is frozen at this point.
Is there a way to determine if its a hardware issue or windows issue. When I searched for the issue I found some with a similar issue but the link provided for support was no longer valid
I fitted a new LCD panel to an Inspiron 3520. Upon boot, it showed the Dell logo, then went all white and then displayed a grid made up of RGB pixels across the screen. I checked the panel was connected properly and the tried to reboot but now the screen doesn't power up at all. The laptop also now plays 4 beeps while trying to boot. I've tried connecting an external monitor, but it also does not display anything an plays the 4 beeps.
I have an old HP pavilion dv5 laptop wish won't start up, fan works power light on screen is on but blank with just curser dash top left corner, now I've took hard drive out and tryed starting in BIOS no joy took ram out and I get 3 bleeps when I turn on ....
My laptop Acer3050.. has a black screen. What could be the problem? I've tried the toggle FN with the > or< which someone suggested nothing happen. Do anyone have any more suggestions for me to try?
ive just re-installed vista home premium on my acer travelmate 5320 but now the led for the wireless is reversed, so when the wifi is on the led is off and vice versa does anyone have any ideas whatsoever as i am at a loss with this one.
It beeps three times (1 long, 2 short) on start up and nothing shows on the screen. We've plugged a seperate monitor into it and that just shows all white.
I have just been given a TravelMate 530 2.2 cpu Lappy
Fine for all I need but I would love to upgrade the memory. I see it says it can only go up to 1 gig and that it has 256 as standard.
I see there is a slot under a cover on the back, but only 1 slot (Unless I'm not looking properly)
Can I just stick a 1 gig unit in this slot and all will be fine or is there some unusual method to upgrading the memory. Hope it's nothing like the old Dells
I have an Acer Aspire 1362i. Lately when I am working on the laptop, the screen has been going blank for no apparant reason. This can happen on startup, after 1, 5 or 10 minutes. where to start Troubleshooting this problem?
I have an Aspire 5610 with 2G ram running vista home premium. I had a few explorer windows open, and was getting memory warnings. I shut a few windows down, and a few hours later, the screen turned blank. I reboot the computer, but the problem persists. Now it turns out if I remove the power supply, and run it on battery, everything is fine. As soon as I instert the power supply chord, screen goes blank (black). Upon removing the power supply, if I shut and open the screen, it works again (and it also shows me a warning message that the wireless is in use, and if I really want to turn the antenna off).
The screen obviously is fine, as it runs fine on battery. I don't understand what is happening as soon as I insert the power supply, and why upon removing the power supply, I get a warning on turning off the antenna.
My laptop would not turn on at all and no lights came one so I bought a new motherboard.
Ive installed the new motherboard, but now when I turn it on the lights turn on, the fan spins, the dvd drive clicks a few times but the screen stays blank. Nothing comes on even after a few minutes. I disassembled the entire laptop again and put everything back together but still nothing comes up on the screen. I reseated the RAM and HDD but still no luck.
2 days ago I had trouble accessing the internet on my E1-570. Windows Explorer kept throwing up a fault and restoring the page. Eventually I loaded Safari and then Firefox and resolved to sort the problem with Windows Explorer some time in the future. This may be unrelated to what happened the next night. Started the E1 and got the usual "Acer, Explore beyond limits" screen and spinning dots, then got the login screen - input password then return. Spinning dots for much longer than usual then blank screen. I can see the cursor arrow so the screen itself must be functioning. Lights on the front are working - AC, battery and HDD. I have had the machine 14 months and it is used exclusively at home so has not been roughly treated.

I want to upgrade the HDD of my TravelMate 2490 notebook but I can't find anything on ebay. Can I used other model's HDD as a replacement? What are the other models that are compatible with TravelMate 2490?
I was given an Acer TravelMate 2300 by someone who has a new one. It came with no guarantees and no recovery CD. It had working verison of XP Pro on it through SP2. I applied SP3 and several updates. It worked good until... I noticed that the C drive was formatted FAT32. So I thought it a good idea to move it to NTFS. Without checking, I fired in "convert c: /fs:ntfs". It rebooted and after a brief look at the Windows XP splash, it goes straight to a stop code x0000024 BSOD. There was nothing on the drive except for the OS so I was felt OK withjust reinstalling from my media.
I dragged out my copy of XP pro slipstreamed with SP2. Booted from CD, went through XP's native setup and detected an "unknown" partition where C used to be. I must've really slammed it. I chose to install to the unknown partition and XP offered to format it NTFS. I chose the thorough format option but it goes only to 24% and stops. The display still shows the progress bar, blue background etc. at 24%.
Since I don't have much experience with laptops, let me ask, is it possible that this laptop/drive ONLY formats to FAT or FAT32 and won't take an NTFS volume? If it will, are there any ideas out there how to apply and NTFS format so I can get this cute little laptop back to a usable state?
