Sep 8, 2009My friend gave me his broken laptop which is not too old. turion x2, 1gb ram, vista. He said one day he was using it and the screen went black. I turned it on and a fan noose starts but slowly stops. I don't really hear anything from it either. I also hooked it up to a VGA monitor and the it is black as well. Any ideas on what it isand is it easily fixed?

Oct 27, 2009I picked up a new Envy 15. Nice laptop! However, when paying $2000 for a laptop, I would like it pretty error free.
Every time I boot the laptop, the screen goes blank once it gets in to Windows, although the power light is on and you can hear the fans. Pressing the monitor or any other key does nothing. Need to reboot.

May 20, 2009I bought a tx1309au a little over a year ago; a couple of days ago I just noticed that it started to overheat alot. Then on Monday, when I turned it on, the screen was just black. It stayed that way for a whole 30mins and I had to turn it off. A few hours later I tried to use it again but still the same. My friend has a similar laptop and he theorizes that it must be the nvidia component at fault. Problem is, my warranty has just expired. Does anyone know how accurate his assessment is? And more importantly, how much it costs to have the nvidia replaced?

Oct 2, 2009I have Windows 7 RTM running on my nc8430 laptop. It has been working great. The only issue is a standby problem. If I put the computer to sleep via the FN-f3 combo it goes to sleep like it should and wakes up like it should. My power profile is set to put the computer to sleep after 10min of inactivity. If after 10min I let the computer go to sleep on its own, upon resuming it from standby I get a black screen. The computer is on and everything is working with sound, just no screen.
I am assuming it is a possible BIOS problem or video driver problem. I have the most recent of each and have tried different video driver versions but no fix.
HP Display :: Compaq Presario V6210US Blank Screen
Aug 16, 2014I have a "compaq presario v6210US" which worked great for a while then it just shut itself off and restarted and the screen stayed black. Now it keeps restarting itself but the screen stays blakc. I can hear the fan and hard drive and everything else running the way it's supposed to. I heard that this has happened to a bunch of other people so it sounds like a defect to me. How do I get it fixed or do I just pull the hard drive, toss the Presario and get a competitors laptop?

Both cards are MXM II (physically fit) however I'm afraid that this VGA is not on whitelist so it's not going to work - I only get blank screen, no error message, no POST, no chance of entering BIOS. I read that there is some tool that can modify BIOS - something called HP Tattoo utility however maybe it's obsolete now and has been replaced by some other utility - I can't even download it anywhere.

Sep 14, 2009I'm more of a desktop user but my husband gave me this laptop on January 2007. Since then, I think I only used it for less than 20 hours (we don't have a wireless)... when we got out of town.
The last time I used it, about a year ago, it turned off by itself. I tried to use it again when I got home but the screen is just blank whenever I turn it on. What could be the problem? I don't think it's a good idea to send it for repair to HP as the warranty expired already.
when I turn it on, all the blue lights turn on... but the screen won't therefore I can't use it. Ealier, I hooked up an external monitor but didn't work. Could it be an LCD problem?
The notebook doesn't have any scratch or whatsoever. It still looks like new, yet not working.

Jan 12, 2009I have a Compaq 3000 Laptop, it's almost 2.4 Years old now, over the period of time I dint faced any issues with my Machine.it all started yesterday.
I was watching a movie on my Laptop yesterday, after sometime the screen froze up but the movie was playing as I was able to hear whats going in the movie.
Later I tried restarting the machine, what i get is the machine boots up properly, but the screen doesnt display anything thing, it shows up a blank white screen, sometime when the windows XP loading picture comes up the screen shows light distorted colors but again goes white blank.
I did approached a local vendor for that but he says that we need to replace on the motherboard, I was not much convinced over his explanation over the issue.
I would like to know your views on what might be the problem with my Machine.
I am going to try over connecting an external monitor and see if LCD is the problem, but I would like to know more what all possible options are there which might be affecting my machine and how much would it cost me in the worst possible case.

Aug 21, 2014I am currently stumped on troubleshooting error code lights for a clients hp compaq cq62. I have tried the hard reset, reseating the memory, and even plugging the notebook directly into the wall instead of a surge protector with the battery removed. I cannot find any solution on the HP site or any other forum site for that matter as to what a solid caps lock light and a solid orange light on the f12 key.
Currently I am thinking the client is might need a new back light for the system or a new cpu.

Mar 27, 2010i have a dell inspiron 1545and today i was trying to run a update and would not let me do anything till i paid out on antivirus softwere which i already have so i tried to restore the system back a couple of days now
when i turn it on it starts up and then the ask for password bot nut in the little box it used to its now a white screen with big letters so i type in the pass word then it goes to start up then
the screen goes blank and nothing happens any ideas iv tried f2 set and f12 but no good if i leave it a while even the screen saver kicks in

Jan 20, 2009I have a Dell Inspiron 9400, I think thats the same as an Inspiron E17-- in america (for some reason dell likes to confuse its customers).
My screen goes competely blank after the dell logo and windows logo show up on startup.
Everything works because I can still log into windows and shut it down using shortcuts and all the normal sounds are played, there is just nothing on the screen

Jan 10, 2008I have an XPS M170, with the 7800GTX card installed. Been working perfectly for several months now then all of a sudden the screen went black, and I had to force a powerdown.
(I was only browsing the web at the time).
Turned it back on, and all that happened was the power light came on, the hard drive light flickered, then the DVD seemed to power cycle (the light came on and I heard it spin), even the XPS lights came on, but that's it, nothing else.
If I leave it alone, it remains in that state with no change, hooked up an external monitor to it, and nothing there either.

Feb 2, 2009hope someone can help me here. Every time i turn on my laptop all i am getting is a blank screen on my laptop and my external monitor.
i am thinking of replacing the motherboard as the graphics card is aparrently soldered to it.Before i do this could the problem be any thing other than the card? I tried running dells screen diagnostic using the beep sound but there are no sounds at all and i cannot see any warnings or errors as all i have is blank screens.
Also if i change the motherboard when i switch it back on will i have video output straight away or will i have to configure anything first?

Mar 14, 2009I've been a lurker for a while now and I just received my new VGN-FW390 today. I tried to create the recovery discs and the drive will simply not recognize any DVD+Rs. I've tried the built in Windows DVD Maker and Click to Disc.
I just got the computer today and I'm trying to get a clean version of Vista installed so I can get rid of these apps and install my own but I can't even get the recovery discs created.
The drive I have is the Pioneer BD-RW BDR-TD01 .....

Nov 13, 2009While encoding long items on my macbook pro; if I don't keep moving the trackpad every so often, once the display goes to sleep, it won't come back on. This is after encoding for about 2 or more hours. It seems its still working, as the fan is still spinning, but the light on the front is on also....not sure why....
Any ideas? If I set the display not to sleep, it may make a difference, but I want it to sleep after a while when I'm not encoding, so seems pointless to keep switching.
I have to hold the power button in to turn it off then back on again. The whole laptop does get luke warm by this time also.
Could I be pushing it too far..... surely the laptop can cope going full tilt for a few hours....bad design otherwise? Anyone else do video encoding on their mbp's?

Aug 28, 2013All of the diagnostics have been run, multiple times to determine the BIOS light flash count blank screen issue, and all other suggestions run, including an additional monitor, with no success.
Hard drive, disc drive, everything works, or at the very least sounds like it is attempting to work as required on start up, just a blank screen. Final diagnostic points to the video card as the culprit? With all of the new systems available around $300, would like to know if it is the video card, and if it is worth the fix or just purchase an entirely new system?

Dec 18, 2008I have an older travelmate 4001wlci and yesterday I was watching a DVD when the screen just froze. I tried everything but the HDD light didn't even blink so I had to hard shutdown.
When I tried to restart the power light comes on and the DVD drive light comes on for a minute as if its trying to read something, but none of the other lights come on. I can't hear the hard drive spinning either and there's no POST. The screen is completely blank. I tried an external monitor and same results, nothing on screen.
For the last several months I have not taken the laptop anywhere so I've had the battery removed and plugged directly to power. Since a year or so, I've removed windows and running mandriva on it without any problems.
For a while, I've had two lines vertically on the screen so I knew the screen or the cable is coming to an end soon, but this doesn't seem like a screen issue.
Do you guys think my motherboard is gone? If so, what is the norm in dealing with this? I don't think it's worth sending this to acer to fix if it's the motherboard considering I don't have a warranty.

Jul 27, 2009I have an Aspire 5610 with 2G ram running vista home premium. I had a few explorer windows open, and was getting memory warnings. I shut a few windows down, and a few hours later, the screen turned blank. I reboot the computer, but the problem persists. Now it turns out if I remove the power supply, and run it on battery, everything is fine. As soon as I instert the power supply chord, screen goes blank (black). Upon removing the power supply, if I shut and open the screen, it works again (and it also shows me a warning message that the wireless is in use, and if I really want to turn the antenna off).
The screen obviously is fine, as it runs fine on battery. I don't understand what is happening as soon as I insert the power supply, and why upon removing the power supply, I get a warning on turning off the antenna.

Nov 5, 2008My laptop would not turn on at all and no lights came one so I bought a new motherboard.
Ive installed the new motherboard, but now when I turn it on the lights turn on, the fan spins, the dvd drive clicks a few times but the screen stays blank. Nothing comes on even after a few minutes. I disassembled the entire laptop again and put everything back together but still nothing comes up on the screen. I reseated the RAM and HDD but still no luck.

Oct 3, 2009I've got a late 07 macbook pro with those faulty 8600 nvidia gpus. My macbook pro was working fine last night and now this afternoon its got a blank screen upon startup. I can still hear the chime and it still boots into the OS as i can still change the volume and backlit brightness etc.... Is it confirmed to say that my luck has ran out and the GPU is dead?
My warranty has expired and have no extended applecare + I bought the macbook in one of those education apple store. Will I still be able to get the free repairs as stated by apple and even if I do, won't they still replace the logic board with another unused faulty one and down the track my macbook pro will still be prone to that same failure?
