Apple :: Flip4Mac Warning During Install
Apr 1, 2009
when trying to install the latest version of Flip4Mac i've got a warning saying that the program modified or need access to kernel or what not.... then ask for password.
i forgot the exact wording.
- what does the warning says/means?
- why does the warning comes up? this is the only program with this warning, even techtool program doesnt do this.
- anyone else get this?
- is it ok to okay it?
i install it (ok it). no ill effect. but i would hate if flip4mac is changing the kernel like a haxies program or antivirus program. the old flip4mac doesnt do this.

I had a bunch of problems getting Dell to refund my money for a laptop I returned.
I purchased a $1700+ Dell Studio 17 laptop using my company’s Employee Purchase Program on 1/13/2009 using my debit card.
I was very unhappy with its sound (totally unacceptable) and when after multiple attempts to remedy the situation failed I decided to return the laptop for a refund. Which I did on 2/6/2009.
When I was notified that the unit had arrived at Dell I called to find out when I could expect my refund and was notified that they would “credit my account quickly".
I told them that was a problem because the account that I ordered it on (my debit card) had to be canceled because it was suspected that it was compromised so the account they would try and credit no longer existed. I was told “no problem” we will issue you a check and it should be delivered in 5-7 working days .....

i got my new hdx and i decided to buy a game for it as well. I popped in warhammer:dawn of war 2 and it played well on mostly ultra-high settings. however the machine gets HOT after playing for about and hour. i also experienced this while playing crysis. it could have something to do with my cpu running at 45w but idk. anyways so i continued to play a little more warhammer and then i started seeing artifacts on my screen. before i knew it my screen was unviewable as the artifacts took over. I thought i was buring up my gpu so i quickly logged out of the game. my screen was still artifact filled so i turned off the computer and rebooted. everything seems to be fine till this moment and i think im very lucky. now i have my hdx raised up on all 4 corners with small business cards and i have my fan blowing at the bottom of the laptop from the right side. (This fan is blowing the same direction that the laptop fan blows). i also put my battery in front the of the fan so that would kool as well. so i decided to give warhammer another shoot. i played it for 2.5 hrs straight and the computer remains cooler that i expected. the battery too is way cooler. i would say my cheap cooling system worked after all.

I just picked up 2 HP g60-507dx laptops at Best Buy yesterday for $197.00 before tax (1 for me and 1 for the wife). I stood in line for 8+ hours in the cold with some friends and had a blast doing it. I'm really glad I got in line at 8pm the night before. I was the 9th person in line and the last person to get the laptop door buster deal.... and man was the door buster deal really slick this year. I've never bought a full laptop for under 500.00 before, and having 2 laptops with Windows 7 for 197.00 each was just too good to pass up. Even a license for Windows 7 alone costs over 120.00 so in reality you get a slick new system for roughly next to nothing.
Anyway back to the review! Last time I did a review it was for my Acer Aspire 5672 series 4 years ago - Link, and I'm happy to say that my old laptop is still going strong with Windows 7. The reason for this new purchase was because I was looking for something to take to work or on trips that I wouldn't be distraught over if I left it in a cab or it was damaged / broken / etc. That and a netbook just wasn't my style (too small, etc.)

I was using my Dell XPS 15z when it turned off (didn't shut down). The system made a click noise and then it was gone; it will not power on. I get no battery lights and I get nothing when pressing the power button. I verified the AC adapter is working. When I plug the AC power in the wall socket, the light comes on; however, when I connect the Ac to the laptop the power light goes out on the AC adapter. The system was not hot, no burning smells. There appears to be substantial number of XPS systems experiencing the same failure. I have tried a second AC adapter and no joy. I have read most of Dell's responses to this same issue. The fell its a motherboard failiure. Has Dell issued a recall for XPS 15Z since this is a known issue?Â

I have a dell 1749 with I7 and the ATI graphics card and loved it till today when I applied the recommended A04 version bios update.
It stopped at 69 out of 70 in the install process for over an hour and then I had a brick!
Dell have agreed to replace the unit as it is less than a month old and totally fried, it wont even get to the dell logo stage which means you can't revert to the previous bios.
It may have been that it was already faulty but I would be very wary of updating the bios at this time.

I finally got around to taking the stickers off of the palmrest on my Z11, and I was left with a lot of goo.
I was too lazy to pick up "goo gone" cleaner so I just rubbed off the sticker goo with my thumb.
Problem is, it left a "carbon footstep" of where the sticker goo was which, no matter how hard I try, I can't clean.
If I look at it at a certain angle, I can see a whole pattern of where I rubbed the sticker goo off. It's really really ugly and I would advise anyone getting around to it to be smart about it and buy goo gone

I first started with an MSI wind which I liked alot the big selling point at the time was the 10" screen which wasn't quite "standard" on the netbook scene. While I liked the wind I found the keyboard too small to enable quick typing. I had it long enough That I got used to it however it just wasn't cutting it.
I then moved onto an N10J and threw in a 500GB HDD and it was my main computer for about 2 months until I got a desktop, anyhow I loved it mainly becasue it had a nearly full size keyboard. The addition of the 9300M was great for watching HD videos and some light gaming. As it stands I love this notebook however the geek in me always wants to try new things and I couldn't wait to see the response from AMD's side, and this is where I begin with the DV2............

I have recently bought an HP envy m6-laptop, and I constantly get a warning message alerting the Recovery disc is full. I have a Windows 8 operating system on the computer, and I have tried to follow the guidelines. That solution was however for the Windows 7 and I got stuck halfways without solving the problem.

I have an Inspiron N5010, roughly two and a half years old. It's been a pretty good computer. It would never crash unless it overheated, and to solve that I soon bought a cooler. I've never really had too much a crashing problem, besides an odd crash here or there when, I'm assuming the problem is, a number of programs running large processes and taking up a vast amount of RAM, and even then it usually is quite warm.Â
Lately I've not used the computer as much as I used to say, over the summer, but I'm still on it often. Normally I have a few tabs of Chrome open, and sometimes iTunes will be running as well. There's not usually anything more than that. However, my computer has randomly started to crash. Out of complete nowhere, with no warning whatsoever, the computer stops working and just... shuts down, as if it were overheating or something. At first I thought it had been due to charge, or had simply died on me, but when I plugged it back in both times it's done it now, I learn the battery has been probably a little under 100% when it crashed. The battery is quite new, received no sooner than November of last year.
The computer, when it crashes, is not warm at all either. Perhaps a little from where my hands were, but never warm enough to think it overheated. In the past three weeks, it's crashed twice. I know that sounds a bit little, but both times very little was actually being done. When it comes to school and projects and whatnot, when the workload really gets heavy (and it will!), I'm concerned it might start crashing more and more, or not be able to handle a heavy workload.

My laptop will randomly turn off. I don't think that it is overheating because sometimes it just shuts off like 1 minutes after i turn it on. I don't feel any heat coming from the fan or anything. When it turns off it doesn't go through the shutdown process it just turns off. Iv'e tried a factory reset and a complete virus/malware scan.Â

I have a spare 500GB external drive sitting around. I have never really considered using Time Machine until recently.
For the backup images that they create, do you create an image of the entire hard drive? If so, does the program compress the backup?
I am looking to do a clean install of Mac OSX. When I do a restore of my old files, I'm only looking to restore docs, pics, music, etc.. I don't want to restore previously installed program or settings. Is it possible to do that with Time Machine?

I have a MacBookPro5,2 that I've recently installed a 2nd HDD using an optibay caddy where the superdrive had been.
I would like to have Windows 7 running natively on that 2nd drive. Can I do this via Bootcamp? Or do I use the OS X Disk Utility app to format it as FAT and then proceed to install the windows OS without using bootcamp? I assume I would then need to install the apple drivers that are on my snow leaopard install disk.
Is that about right? Will I be able to selective boot by holding the Opt key at bootup jsut as if I had used bootcamp?

Just did a fresh install of XP on my bootcamp partition. And I can't gat any drivers to work correctly with the 9600m GT. Tried several drivers from Laptopvideo2go.com, but they keep reverting to a basic VGA res and color depth. It will not let me adjust any settings.
It says sothing about the currently installed graphics drivers was written for a previous windows installation, so teh default VGA driver will be used.
If anyone has any info to help a guy out here it would be greatly appreciated.
I never experienced any issues like this on either Vista x64 or Win7 X84/64.

I've bought a new HDD (Western Digital 500GB) to replace the old one because there was not enough space on it. So I replaced the hard drives, insert the DVD, hold C and the installation process starts .... but when it reaches the point to choose my destination hard drive .... there is no drive listed there to choose.
I suspected that the new hard drive is broken, so I opened another laptop (PC) that I have and I replaced the old HDD with the new one and everything works fine.

today I bricked my new 1645 when I was examing the BIOS for the 1647. The BIOS release 1647_A00.exe released this month automatically begins flashing on an 1645
and does not seem to check compatibility or confirm with the user before it updates.
The BIOS is completely incompatible with the 1645 to say the least, so be very careful if you download it on to a non-1647 system.
Dell is building a new system due to this really sad event. Rip XPS 1645 - December 5th 2009.

I am working on a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. At first the laptop displayed a message when first turned on "Warning: the battery cannot be identified This system will be unable to charge this battery.
Press any key to continue." I googled this warning and some recommended that the BIOS be upgraded. After the BIOS was upgraded the warning message did indeed go away.
But Windows XP still does not recognize this battery, and shows the laptop to be running on AC power even when the power adapter is not plugged in. Also, the charge light on the laptop does not light when the power adapter is plugged .....

*UPDATE* The design is on the inside aswell. See pictures below.
I just wanted to give everybody a headsup that may be thinking about purchasing a Dell laptop and choosing the black chainlink color.
A little backstory:
I'm starting college at the end of the month, and was looking at getting a laptop for my classes. I really liked the Studio 15, read quite a bit of reviews and finally built it all online and got it ordered.
What I DIDN'T know was that the color option, Black Chainlink, was actually a design .....

On Start, I receive a message: Warning: The battery cannot be identified. The system will be unable to charge this battery. Press any key to continue.
When I continue, everything seems to be ok; the battery charges normally. The warning appears on every Start. This started recently possibly after I installed Norton 360 Premier security package.
Can I continue ignoring it or does it really have a message for me. The laptop is an Inspiron 1501 and is slightly under 2 years old.
