Apple :: MBP 13 - Microphone Input
Nov 15, 2009
On MBP 13 inch there is only one Headphone output. Normally on other laptops have a microphone input to record audio.
Is the Microphone input possible in MBP 13, since it does not have a Mic In port?
I need to record lectures in my online classroom and would need to put in a Aux In cable from the online classroom PC to my laptop. Any ideas how that is possible using MBP 13?

I'm using HP Pavillion dv6 1330-er. The problem is - both my mic and webcam mic were working fine untill yesterday's morning. The evening before i was talking with my friend on skype and then gone to sleep. When i woke up - both mic input and webcam mic weren't working. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 ... Nothing like this happened before.
Webcam video itself working fine. Headphones working fine.Tried to reinstall driver - didnt work. Laptop was resting on the table, just like i left it in the evening. Have 2 different windows installed on my laptop (the another one is windows XP, not a single program installed, just drivers) - mics aren't working.
The same mic on different PC working fine. The system detects both headphones mic and webcam mic and the system shows when i'm taking headphones' mic in and out.

i came across the fact that you can only monitor audio if you install the sigmatel audio drivers with XP SP2 compatibility, but now that i wanted to plug my XPS via HDMI to my flatscreen, lo and behold... no HDMI audio as it used to be.
is it possible to have both scenarios or does one cancel the other?

I can't get the audio input jack to work using either an MP3 or a microphone. This is a new Inspirion and when I call Dell, they send me overseas to someone that
keeps telling me it's a problem with the three MP3's I have tried and the microphone so they send me to "Pro Support"
that wants a credit card number. Anybody have an idea if this is a software issue or a defective input jack?

I am definitely going to purchase either a Sony FW or SR series laptop. While I know that they are basically two completely different machines, I wanted to see if all of you helpful good Samaritans would steer me in the right direction.
The two configurations I am looking at are such:
FW:
[url]
SR:
[url]
But a CTO model with the Blu Ray drive from the SonyStyle store
My usages will be the following
-Light AutoCAD
-Decent amount of Photoshop
-Basic video creation and editing
-Multimedia Hub (music, movies, etc)
I will not be schlepping the laptop around too much at first, but there is a good possibility that I will need to carry it a lot in the near future. Also, I have an extra Dell 20" IPS panel lying around that I will probably use as my main monitor, so screen size is not much of an issue. My questions are such:
1)Do any SR owners use it a lot for video and photo editing? If so, how does it perform.
2)Is the HD 4570 that is the top graphics option in the SR enough of a vid card for my uses? If it isn't, then I will probably have to go with the FW series. According to notebookcheck.net, the 4650 is something like 40% more powerful than the 4570.
3)Exactly how cumbersome to move is the FW? It is a rather large laptop, though not especially heavy. I checked the measurements and it barely fits into my current shoulder bag, and it might not in the end if I decide to get a laptop sleeve for extra padding. I would probably have to get another laptop bag if the FW with a sleeve is too large.
4)Also, cost is somewhat an issue. The FW can be had for less than $1,000 total (-$100 Rebate and Bing Cash), while the CTO SR will run me around $1,700. Is a 35% price premium worth the level of portability that the SR will afford me in conjunction with my listed uses, or should the superior video card and lower price automatically deem the FW the wiser choice.

HP G60-44OUS Notebook PC The original monitor or screen went bad and I am using a external monitor which has been working fine. Today I can not get input to the external screen. I hooked it up to my TV. It has work there fine. Today it will not imput to that screen either. The start button light is white and the wi-fi button is orange, suppose to be blue. There are 3 activity lights.
The first (left) is on bright all time, which I think is normal. The middle light is dim. The right is off. As I can not see a display I am at a loss. Is there a key stroke for restart? It appears that the laptop is not starting. Repeated pushing the start button does not seem to work.

With my PC I can record streamed audio via Audacity. However I can only see the microphone as an input source for I/O inputs. I have looked at all settings and cannot find anything relevant. It seems you cannot also run the Realtek control panel presumably this is a Acer configuration.

Touchscreen for my laptop is no longer working, among other issues. When I look at pen and touch under pc info, I get "No pen or touch input is available for this display." Which is quite odd since it is a touch laptop. I cannot find any of the drivers for the touchscreen. The only thing I have under "mice and other pointing devices," is the dell touchpad. I tried reinstalling synaptics touchpad driver, no luck. I updated BIOS and chipset drivers, no luck. I also completed all windows updates, still no luck. So, I reset my computer to factory settings, and it still does not work
I recently sent in my laptop due to problems of it not being able to turn on, and my battery and a/c adapter were replaced. I was quite happy. However, I do not want to send it back in even though it is under warranty.

I have a HP TouchSmart Notebook Model 15-f010wm, Product number J8A22UA#ABA, Windows 8.1 with Bing 64-bit.
The first 3-4 day I used this computer it worked like a charm. I loved it. Now some times the touchscreen will work for about 5 min or so and then stop or not work at all. When it stops working I keep getting a pop up in the lower right corner that says: USB device not recognized.
The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and window does not recognize it. (I have not plugged anything into this computer yet except the power cord) When this happens and you go to the device manager sometimes there will be a yellow ! triangle under the Human Interface Devices drop down and some times the yellow ! triangle will be under the Universal Serial Bus controllers drop down. And if you go to they system screen the Pen and touch line changes to No Pen or Touch Input is available for this display.
I have tried to do a system restore. Also I've done a system quick test and a system extensive test. The results were battery check primary ok and all others said passed. And of course I can't do the screen test because the touch screen is not working.

From all the specs listed on this machine it should be a CAD powerhouse, however it seems that there are a number of people on the net reporting lots of driver issues when trying to run CAD software.
I'll be running things like Solidworks and some other engineering aps that use some 3D modeling and am wondering if there is any kind of a consensus yet as to weather this machine is good to go or not. This machine will be used for work, so I don't want to mess around with something that will be crashing all the time.
Is it just the Dell bloatware that is causing the issues? If I reformat and reinstall the OS how difficult is it to find all the proper (stable!) drivers to get this machine up and running again?

Trying to see my Sony AVCHD camera using a HDMI cable I just got with mini end for camera and regular end for my Dell XPS LAPTOP.
It doesn't recognize it at all...
Would this be a driver issue? And where do I get the correct ones. or a control device area?
Dell?
Sony?
One last question...
Where do we get our tag etc.# to get info from Dell or at least quicker response to a question.

I usually hook my M1530 up to an external LCD to play COD5, does using an external monitor introduce any input lag while the laptop pushes the video out to the monitor? I don't think so as it is like using a desktop and monitor but I wanted to check with you guys anyway.

So ensuring i didnt get a defective device and while i'm still within my 14 day return period I was wondering if other people with the FW series (I have the 465J) version have a little give on the piece on the laptop where you plug it in to charge (top left of the laptop) and if you press it on the top part of it, it sorta pushes in a little bit. I also noticed its easily scratched as a I have a small scratch right where the the screen touches that part when closing the laptop (look at it from above as you slowly close your screen youll notice a little piece sticking out from the screen that can scratch the power input piece).
After rereading my own post I think people might confuse the power input to the power adapter, I'm referring to the place where you plugin your laptop located on the top left of the laptop near the hinge.

I just upgraded my D630 from 32bit Vista to 64 bit Windows 7 (wiped the Vista off and clean install of 7). It's working very well, but the touchpad isn't fully functional. I have lost the scroll capability. Dell support says they haven't written a replacement driver and aren't sure that they ever will.

I'm running a D820 and I just installed Vista 64 Ultimate. I ran the entire install while disconnected from the dock and everything went smooth (SP1 and all patches afterwards).
After connecting the laptop to the dock I'm getting a very annoying latency with my mouse and keyboard. The mouse stops responding for as little as half a second, up to 4 or 5 seconds depending on what
I'm doing. While typing, the keyboard will also repeat the last key I touched when the issue occurs

I have a lenovo x220t with win 7 home premium and have had it for close to three years. Recently when using the wacom pen the tablet pc input panel has become unmoveable. The panel appears if I hover the pen over the screen and when I click on the panel is slides onto the screen but when I try to use the pen to move the panel around the screen it will not move. Now if I use the touchpad mouse I can move the panel but that defeats the purpose of the input pannel.
Usually if I restart the computer it will reset what ever problems I've had with it but for some reason this is not working.

I have a Pavilion dv7t laptop running Vista. One of the main reasons I bought this was to do audio work in Sony Acid Music and Sony Sound Forge. Well, lo and behold, I can't hear my mic input. I can record audio in using the mic input, but I can't monitor the input as I am using it to know whether it is too loud, too quiet, I am too close to the mic, too far away, etc.
I have done a lot of research on this via google searches and have found that most people solved this (on other laptops or other computers running Vista) by changing the input monitor setting (to enable it) within the windows registry. I dug all through various locations in my reg files and can't find anything on an HP Pavilion dv7t running Vista that corresponds with an input monitor setting.
This is a huge source of frustration. If anyone can let me know how to enable this, I would appreciate it. It's not a matter of right clicking on the speaker in the windows tray and changing anything on playback devices or recording devices. I have tried every possible combination of that and it doesn't work. This is something that needs to be fixed at a root level.
Why HP or Microsoft has this set as a default setting so you can't even monitor your input volume is beyond me.

The A10 BIOS update for the E6540, released on the 4th of July, causes severe keyboard issues on Linux. During routine typing, keys will 'stick' until any other key is pressed. The keys that stick vary and seem random: sometimes it's the space bar, sometimes alphanumerics and sometimes, worst of all, the backspace key.
This went on for a couple of weeks, I then noted that the BIOS update changelog included "Keyboard input improvement." and so rebooted back in to Windows 7 and downgraded to A08. I have had no problems since.
OS: Arch Linux, kernel 3.15.x, KDE 4.13.x
I've also had problems with the backlight coming on on its own, after the lid has been shut, but I have not been able to determine if this is a firmware issue. I do note however, that LCD backlight issues have been addressed in this BIOS update as well. My current workaround is to use the possum mode thingy (Fn + B), which turns off all sound and vision.
