View 8 Replies View RelatedI can't get the audio input jack to work using either an MP3 or a microphone. This is a new Inspirion and when I call Dell, they send me overseas to someone that
keeps telling me it's a problem with the three MP3's I have tried and the microphone so they send me to "Pro Support"
that wants a credit card number. Anybody have an idea if this is a software issue or a defective input jack?
So the Yoga 2 Pro's single 1'8" audio interface is billed as a "combo" jack that functions both as a line-out (for headphones, speakers) and a line-in (for plugging in other audio devices to play through the computer's internal speakers). Well, this doesn't seem to be the case - I've tried ini vain to do this with a Line 6 guitar interface with no luck whatsoever. The Realtek Audio HD software shows the jack as performing two functions, but you cannot change what it's being used for - a difference from earlier versions of the Realtek software (apparently this was most easy to change in the Windows XP version).
Â
How I can properly configure the combo jack to work as a line-in port, as was advertised when I bought the computer?Â
I've been Windows 7 now for quite a while and it's been great apart from the little brightness setting bug. There's also the issue of having no surround sound output via HDMI.
When I was running Vista using the stock audio/video drivers I've had no issues getting the HDMI (to my surround sound reciever via HDMI) to output surround sound, it just worked for whatever media I played.
Since switching to Windows 7, I've been unable to get any surround sound out at all, It's only outputting stereo. I've tried the various Realtek drivers and have had no luck, they don't even allow me to use HDMI sound output when the cable is connected!
Anyone else have this problem? or found a solution?
I'm running RC1 x86 on a Vaio Z (VGN-Z90S - original Jap. model). I've also tried it with earlier versions of 7 with no go, and I'm hesitant to try the RTM version. I kinda want to wait for another reformat until I get my key.
Anyone have surround on their Z through HDMI? (please let me know, what drivers/OS you're running.)
I am definitely going to purchase either a Sony FW or SR series laptop. While I know that they are basically two completely different machines, I wanted to see if all of you helpful good Samaritans would steer me in the right direction.
The two configurations I am looking at are such:
FW:

SR:
[url]
But a CTO model with the Blu Ray drive from the SonyStyle store
My usages will be the following
-Light AutoCAD
-Decent amount of Photoshop
-Basic video creation and editing
-Multimedia Hub (music, movies, etc)
I will not be schlepping the laptop around too much at first, but there is a good possibility that I will need to carry it a lot in the near future. Also, I have an extra Dell 20" IPS panel lying around that I will probably use as my main monitor, so screen size is not much of an issue. My questions are such:
1)Do any SR owners use it a lot for video and photo editing? If so, how does it perform.
2)Is the HD 4570 that is the top graphics option in the SR enough of a vid card for my uses? If it isn't, then I will probably have to go with the FW series. According to notebookcheck.net, the 4650 is something like 40% more powerful than the 4570.
3)Exactly how cumbersome to move is the FW? It is a rather large laptop, though not especially heavy. I checked the measurements and it barely fits into my current shoulder bag, and it might not in the end if I decide to get a laptop sleeve for extra padding. I would probably have to get another laptop bag if the FW with a sleeve is too large.
4)Also, cost is somewhat an issue. The FW can be had for less than $1,000 total (-$100 Rebate and Bing Cash), while the CTO SR will run me around $1,700. Is a 35% price premium worth the level of portability that the SR will afford me in conjunction with my listed uses, or should the superior video card and lower price automatically deem the FW the wiser choice.
i made a free program to fix that proplem in vaio camera
that the screen of the camera be blue without any reason
you will love it >>

download it , unzip it , install it , then run it ..
So ensuring i didnt get a defective device and while i'm still within my 14 day return period I was wondering if other people with the FW series (I have the 465J) version have a little give on the piece on the laptop where you plug it in to charge (top left of the laptop) and if you press it on the top part of it, it sorta pushes in a little bit. I also noticed its easily scratched as a I have a small scratch right where the the screen touches that part when closing the laptop (look at it from above as you slowly close your screen youll notice a little piece sticking out from the screen that can scratch the power input piece).
After rereading my own post I think people might confuse the power input to the power adapter, I'm referring to the place where you plugin your laptop located on the top left of the laptop near the hinge.
I am considering a VAIO FW series.
1. Does this series use BIOS or EFI?
2. Is the BIOS (EFI) locked down so that one must struggle to make adjustments, troubleshoot hardware etc?
3. If so, can it be unlocked?
4. Is it easy to upgrade the RAM, processor and hard drive?
When will Sony release a new line of notebooks instead of just a refresh? Will all of them be replaced at the same time?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn looking to pick up a laptop and have it in my hands by late next week, I found that I had to go with the 2.26 GHz processor from the P-series. I was hoping for 2.4 GHz or better.
The reason I was willing to do so was that the notebook is coming equipped with an OCZ Vertex SSD at 120 GB.
My take is that the hard drive is still the bottleneck, so a mere 140 MHz difference in the presence of an SSD isn't going to be felt, and that a 2.4 GHz processor + SSD isn't going to really be snappier compared to a 2.26 GHz one with an SSD for most things.
I noticed that most of their current computers came out last July/August. Does Sony completely replace their whole line up every year or sometimes do they just update the previous year's model? Are any of the current models they offer more than a year old? How long before new laptops come out do they get announced?

if you dont know at least tell me when sony vaio sr was updated in 2009....(i know it came out in 2008)
Seems like TT is being ended in most countries. And Acer, Dell, MSI, Asus, Toshiba and HP have all releases their CULV lines, I'm wondering if Sony will come too.
Did anyone hear/read anything about it?
I am aware of the X series but that's not what I would call CULV.

Has anyone had experience with the NS255 (or even the NS235 or NS290) that came out at the very end of last year? I've read some reviews that say the older NS135 and NS190 are average at best, but can't find any reviews on the newer 2xx line. Here are the specs I've found on the NS255:
Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2.00 GHz Processor
2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz Bus speed
4096 MB DDR2 (PC2-6400) RAM Max: 4GB

I'm not pleased with the lack of HDMI (my TV does not have VGA input) and Bluetooth but I suppose I could get by with S-video.
I'm set on a 15.4" screen and my needs are Web surfing, video over web, MS Office (lots of Word, Powerpoint, and Excel), light-moderate picture/video editing, light gaming (kids games), Skype, and video chat. I've run the FAQ under a different thread, but just trying to get some thoughts on this model.
I have the VAIO SR190 and want to upgrade to 8GB, but I have seen conflicting information if it will support 8GB.
View 8 Replies View Relatedi have a 3 month old Sony Z11 Laptop.
I have noticed some problems with my Screen, its like a faint line and a few dots in the top middle of the screen, it looks like its been caused by the keyboard when the lid is shut. It not a scratch but i think more marks than anything, tried cleaning but still no luck ?
I have a Studio 17 and added a Dell 370 bluetooth card so I can use my bluetooth mouse and it works fine.
I saw a pair of Motorola Bluetooth stereo headphones, and I'm wondering if these would allow me to listen to my mp3's using Winamp, or if I go into a voice chat room if I can use the bluetooth headphones ?
I would like to try them for listening to my mp3's and I think the Dell 370 is A2DP compatible but not sure about that either, I cant find that on the Dell spec sheet. The headphones are Motorola S805 stereo bluetooth phones.
If it does work, does it have as good sound as a wired headset would ?
As everybody probably knows Vista doesn't support/have Stereo Mix, so in order to get it to work I followed a guide from somewhere (could of been here) that linked to other Sigmatel drivers and then installed them in XP compatibility mode,
however, having done that i've now totally lost the use of the inbuilt mic...has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way of fixing this or am I limited to having one or the other
have hp pavillion dv6205us and i want to get stereo mixer how do i add it
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter installing the latest audio drivers for Windows 7 (thanks to BlackRussian) it looks like Stereo Mix support has arrived - see attached screenshot.
I've done a quick test and it will pick up audio from multiple programs
Hopefully the drivers will work in Vista too
I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 T9300 with a Sigmatel sound device.
I am missing the option to record "what you hear" or "stereo mix".
OS = Vista & XP (dual boot).
A nice xmas gift in the form of a driver from Dell

Finally we have stereo mix!
I need to record audio output, but there is no "Stereo Mix" in Sound>Recording. I understand that this is a common issue with some laptops. Aspire 4830T?
View 4 Replies View RelatedOn MBP 13 inch there is only one Headphone output. Normally on other laptops have a microphone input to record audio.
Is the Microphone input possible in MBP 13, since it does not have a Mic In port?
I need to record lectures in my online classroom and would need to put in a Aux In cable from the online classroom PC to my laptop. Any ideas how that is possible using MBP 13?
i came across the fact that you can only monitor audio if you install the sigmatel audio drivers with XP SP2 compatibility, but now that i wanted to plug my XPS via HDMI to my flatscreen, lo and behold... no HDMI audio as it used to be.
is it possible to have both scenarios or does one cancel the other?
I have an HP Dv5t and I have Logitech Z-5500 speakers, how do I use the SPDIF digital, the Dv5t doesn't have the SPDIF input. In the IDT audio menu it has the option but says only thru the HP dock and Im not shelling out 100 bux for that. what can i do to use the SPDIF or Optical cables, even the analog cables?

Today I can not get input to the external screen. I hooked it up to my TV. It has work there fine. Today it will not imput to that screen either. The start button light is white and the wi-fi button is orange, suppose to be blue. There are 3 activity lights.
The first (left) is on bright all time, which I think is normal. The middle light is dim. The right is off. As I can not see a display I am at a loss. Is there a key stroke for restart? It appears that the laptop is not starting. Repeated pushing the start button does not seem to work.
