Mar 29, 2009Sometimes when I plays DVDs, the keyboard flickers just slightly. Is this a widespread problem or is it just me?

Apple :: Macbook Screen Flicker
Jul 21, 2009my white 13.3 inch macbook has developed like a flickering problem, its a good few years old, max memory on this one is only 2gb's. well anyways, the screen, it has only done it intermittently but when opening it for wake up, or when the screen dims, it ocassionaly does like a flicker thing, but only for a few seconds, then it stops. my guess, its the screen invertor.

Feb 10, 2009i was working on my thesis in a completely dark room and realized that the screen on my macbook pro flickers even if the background is completely white. this annoyed me to no end since i have sensitive eyes, so i set out looking for a temporary fix before i try and get apple to replace my panel. anyhow, luck has it that there is a fix out there that at least temporarily stops the flicker (i havent seen it posted on nbr before, and my apologies if this is old news): press ctrl-shift-eject to reset the screen. once it goes blank, hit any key and your display should be good to go. worked for me and my screen has been flicker-free for ~30 minutes.

Mar 11, 2009I've had my MBP for about 4 month now and have been having problems with its keyboard since I bought it. First, the "Z" key sank in (I think there was a problem with the spring). I took it to the Apple Store, and they "fixed" on the spot (it's much harder to press and only registered a key press 70% of the time). The lower right corner of the "E" has noticeably sunk in, and I need to resort to pressing the upper left corner. Also, the left side of the keyboard feels "mushy", not hugely so, but definitely noticeable after typing a few sentences. Can I request that Apple just replace the entire keyboard instead of just individual keys?

I got it a couple days ago and it definitely takes some getting used to. But that phase is over now and I love this keyboard. The build quality is amazing and typing feels just like my MBP keyboard.

Human vision factors:
Most people can see flicker at about 80 hz. This is most noticeable in bright light and in the peripheral vision areas. Most people adjust to the flicker rate of their local power so that they no longer notice the flicker.
Most people can see an animation as continuous movement at about 20 Hz. The brain tends to understand that it is seeing an animation and assembles it as movement. On things that are not moving, the flicker is more noticeable as your brain has nothing it can assemble the flicker into.
Some people have said that they can see the flicker while other people around them can't. This could be because some people are less sensitive to noticing flicker. This could also be because the other person is looking at the screen from farther away (say, over the shoulder of the owner) and the screen is centered in their vision, not in the peripheral vision areas. If you are one of these people please let us know it your test persons have actually sat directly in front of the laptop, just like you normally would be when you see the flicker.
I suspect the flicker is actually due to the Hz of the backlights, not the actual refresh rate of the screen.

Dec 2, 2007I have had a major problem with my M1710 having a fit when running on batteries!
theres a slight flicker when running aero on vista, but the computer has a major fit when running Studio 11 from pinnacle.
have had a great deal of discusion with dell and Tech support with out success.
they suggested new mother board and 7950gtx card!
anyway through reading alot of posts on the forum i tried increasing the clock speeds of the 2d setting on the graphics card
the core is now set at 150 and memory 200
i tried it at 100/150 as suggested on another post.
However 150/200 has created significant performance increase when editting on pinncle studio 11! and vista areo runs smooth as silk
Increasing the Clock speeds cures the flickering problem!
Acer :: 5920 Screen Flicker
Mar 7, 2009On my Acer 5920, the screen flickers off and on when I plug up to my projector to give a power point presentation. I have called Acer NO-HELP; they said it was a 3rd party software issue, which was not true, because there is no software- it is plug and play. I called Epson; they suggested to chage the refresh rate to 60 and I did to no avail.
There final word was that it must be the Graphics Card.
Acer :: 1410 Screen Flicker
Dec 18, 2009I found a couple other reviews where people said they had a noticeable (more so on dimmer settings, for me) screen flicker with their timelines. I have the 1410 with su2300 proc. Anyone else noticing this problem? It's enough to distract me, which can be annoying, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to the visuals.

Oct 25, 2009I put this in a new thread because I do not think this is a real problem but how this screen is.
A lot of people report a flicker problem but a flicker problem when it it exists is a major issue with the screen refresh.
What I see is in very light or dark screens on my 1555 is a just detectable "Waviness" of the screen, Almost non noticeable looking directly.
Worse at low brightness
is this just the nature of LED back lit screens? I cannot find much on the internet about this I guess due to so few computers had them prior to these models.
Acer :: Aspire 6930G Screen Flicker
Apr 26, 2010I've been plagued with this problem for the past month and a half at least, so much so that the laptop has spent the last 3 weeks with Acer and their technical support team in Plymouth (I only got it back last week).
The laptop was sent off with a fault to the screen. It intermittently flickers, mainly when the screen is moved, but sometimes not. The laptop was sent off to Acer 3-4 weeks ago and was returned last week. A report was returned with the laptop and reads as follows:

As you can imagine, this report left me completely perplexed but I assumed that somewhere within that they had fixed the screen problem and left me with a fully functional laptop again. And of course I'd been without it for 3 weeks and just wanted to turn it on again!! lol (On a sidenote, I had asked them to check the disk drive also, because back when I first got it, it struggled to read any type of disk. This explains the apparent replacement disk drive)................

Every now and again, the screen gets just a bit dimmer for just a very brief moment, not much, just a bit, and pretty quickly, and then comes back to normal. It almost looks like it wants to go into it's "power saving" mode or something, for a moment, and then back out .....

May 1, 2013What is happening with the laptop, sometimes I noticed my laptop screen will flicker(or a bright flash as if someone was taking a picture). When I go to the event viewer it tells me Desktop windows service manager has been disabled by the windows system assessment tool. I'I have the nvidia graphics card + Intel(using optimus technology),running windows 7 professional 64 bit.
I forgot to mention when playing videos I think the graphic card makes a strange noise like there isn't enough power or something (Not 100% sure)

Feb 6, 2014My x120e has been giving me grief recently. It started when, upon awaking the computer, my screen would be very distorted. It was mostly horizontal and was different from the known horizontal screen flicker issue. It would take up large parts of the screen, but no more than half. Now get this, the distortion changed totally depending on what was on the screen. I could even get it to go away completely if I just opened the start menu (with my task bar on the left side of the screen). Typically a restart would alleviate the issue.Â

I would get a screencap for you guys, but last night I shut down the laptop to 'fix' the issue and the screen never came back on. I can still use an external monitor so I'm not thinking this is a graphics card problem, or at least not entirely.Â

Acer :: Timeline 1810TZ Video Flicker/choppy Issue, Wrong Driver
Jan 1, 2010I just bought an Acer Timeline 1810TZ a few days ago. I'm having problems with video flickering when I play .avi files and every other file format in VLC media player, I tried a few other players and it's the same issue. I'm pretty sure it's the video drivers I'm using but I don't know how to fix it. I did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate the day I got it. The image and audio speed is fine on the screen but there's flickering lines across the screen when the camera moves around.
it's not fun watching flickering movies.

Dec 23, 2013We have 2 new T440p (i7 4800MQ, 16gb, ssd) which we installed with clean Win 8.1 and the newest drivers (intel hd 10.18.10.3345, nvidia 9.18.13.3182).
The laptops run on 4 ultra docks with different monitor configurations, mostly dual display, one single display, mostly samsung displays, always one display via dvi, second displays vga as we did not receive our display-port adapters yet).
In all configurations we have the same problem: Between every few seconds and about 20 minutes the external screens flicker and get rediscovered. Often this happens in Chrome or when doing some graphic-intensive stuff, but we cannot trace it down. Takes a few seconds to rediscover and all windows not in fullscreen are resized afterwards, because of display resolution detection and mostly we get the Display port new topology notification... We already tried with disabling the nvidia via the nvidia gpu settings and only using hd graphics but that didn't work.

A few years ago I had problems with my T400 discrete grafics, but then I could disable it in the BIOS which does not seem to be possible with the T440p...
Apple :: MBP - Backlit Keyboard
Oct 7, 2009It is my understanding that all MBP's now have the backlit keyboard, even the base config 2.26 GHZ 13" Unibody. Is this indeed so?
My BIL has taken a liking to the backlit keyboard on my 2.4ghz MB Unibody, and wants to buy a similar machine. I told him that the base unibody system didn't used to come backlit, but now they apparently do (at least from what is written on the Apple website).
