Apple :: New MacBook Pro Bringing Down Entire Network

Nov 22, 2009

I took the plunge and bought my second MacBook after having to return the first I got a few months ago after it had a dead pixel and a stuffed optical drive.

I got a 13" MacBook Pro, 2.53GHz CPU, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 250GB HDD. Running Snow Leopard

It's perfect. No dead pixels, no screwed optical drive (knocking on wood).

BUT I'm having network problems. The AirPort keeps disconnecting every 5 minutes or so. It still appears to be connected, but the internet just simply doesn't work. (Actually it just happened again in that last second, I'm now typing this offline and will have to reconnect when ready to post).

I've read that a lot of MacBooks have this problem and even that it may have something to do with Snow Leopard, and the problem sounds almost exactly like mine, BUT they keep saying that all of the other PCs on the network are fine. The other devices connected to the same network (even the main PC that's connected via Ethernet vs Wireless) get screwed as well! This also includes my iPhone 3GS, which always connects just fine.........

Lenovo Yoga 2 Flex :: Networking Slows Down Entire Network

Dec 2, 2014

I purchased a Flex 2 a couple weeks ago. Installed Office 365 software and Creative Cloud by Adobe. All was working well on both the networks I connect to.

Now today, performance across the entire network has gone to the dogs. At first I suspected the provider or router so went through all the standard service routines (unplug this, reboot that) over and over. Same deal, deadly slow performance for several PCs and Macs on the network.

Then I hit on the idea of shutting down my Lenovo. Suddenly the network download speed went back from 2MB/sec and ping of 2000 MS to more normal speeds.

I've rebooted the Lenovo a couple times, switched from 2.4 Ghz band to 5 with the same result.

At one point when I plugged the Lenovo directly into the modem (part of the diagnostics) the direct speed seemed faster.

Since the router is working perfectly with every other machine, and I haven't changed a thing on that, and since the symptoms go always across the network when the Lenovo is shut off, I can only assume that there is something going on with the Lenovo Flex 2 and the way it is communicating with the rest of the network.

I should also add that I tried hooking up an ethernet cable to ensure that it wasn't just a wireless thing. Still had slow performance.

Apple :: Macbook V Macbook Pro (My Short Review Based On 2 Hours At PC World's Stand)

Feb 5, 2009

To start I should remind everyone that i'm not a mac user. I have never owned a mac or used OSX properly before today. As such, my opinions should be taken as coming from someone who has much knowledge and experience as far as PC's are concerned, but who is a total mac n00b.

First Impressions

When I first walked over to the Macbooks I was quite taken aback. The build quality is out of this world. In fact, I immediately walked over to the latest PC laptops to compare and immediately thought "manufacturing FAIL". Really, the Macbooks are italian sports cars, and PC's are 30 year old farm tractors to use the typical "car analogy".

The Macbook

I really only had any interest in the Macbook when I first went to the Apple stand, but came away with the intention of buying a MacBook Pro. Let me explain:

The MacBook's build quality is awesome. It's solid, no creaking plastic or flexable build, completely and utterly solid. Awesome.............

Apple :: 15" Macbook/Macbook Pro With Integrated Graphics For Less

Mar 7, 2009

I have been speculating over this prospect giving the direction that Apple took with the starting price of the 24" iMac (upgrade everything else and downgrade the VRAM).

I mean, this is something I would like to see, but I wonder if it is a smart move on Apple's part given how much they make off the current MBP's with the so called Apple Tax.

And, if they made this move, one has to wonder if it still would be considered a Pro.

Apple :: Macbook, Macbook Pro Software Update 1.2

May 9, 2009

I downloaded this updated for my unibody Macbook Pro, and I think it's pretty vital. However, it gave me this error when I tried to install it: "You cannot install Macbook, Macbook Pro software update on this volume. This update requires Mac OS X 10.5.5 or newer." Now don't tell me that I have selected the wrong partition to install the update, or that I need to update my OS to 10.5.5 because I already have 10.5.6 and I chose the Macintosh HD partition to install the update.

Apple :: Refurb MacBook Unibody Vs MacBook Pro

Sep 12, 2009

So I'm definitely getting a 13" Macbook or Macbook Pro. Apple has some great prices on refurbs so that's probably the route I'll be going however I'm having trouble discerning the difference between the 13" Aluminum Unibody standard macbook and the 13" Unibody Macbook Pro. From what I've read they both have the upgraded screen, they're obviously both unibody, both have the large button-less trackpad, and both have the 9400m. They even have the same dimensions and the only difference I can see between the images is a slightly different case bevel (also the firewire and sd card ports, both are useless to me).

Unfortunately, none of the Apple stores or BestBuys in the area have a non-pro unibody 13" Macbook for me to actually handle and compare. So, basically, what makes the pro version with the slower cpu and smaller hard drive at the same price point worth it?

Apple :: Disk Image From Macbook Onto Macbook Pro Hdd

Jul 6, 2009

If I make an image of my hdd from my white macbook with disk utility onto a hard drive I take out of a unibody macbook pro will it work and boot properly?

I will do this by taking the 250gb hdd out of the unibody macbook pro and putting it into a sata external usb hdd enclosure, then making an image of my current 120gb white macbook and writing the image onto the 250gb. After, I plan to put the 250gb hdd back into the macbook pro and boot it up normally as if everything from my white macbook was just copied onto the macbook pro.

HP/Compaq :: Replace LCD Screen Or Entire Display Panel

May 19, 2009

i just found this forum and it seems like you guys could help me answer this question. i have a dv2000 laptop i bought about 2 years ago and the screen has started to mess up. essentially it has two problems.

1. there is always a vertical line about a pixel thick that stays a yellow color. no matter what is on the screen, the line is always yellow. if i bend the display panel a bit it disappears but comes back as soon as i let go.

2. when i open and close the laptop to adjust the screen angle, the screen starts flickering with these white lines. i have to keep messing around with the screen (moving it back and forth) for it to come back to normal. im not sure if a cable is loose or maybe broken.

im assuming that i need to replace the entire display panel but im not sure if i can get away with just buying the lcd screen and replacing it. i can probably get rid of the yellow line on the screen but i think the flickering is caused by something else. could it be a loose cable that i just need to fix?

Apple :: Old White Macbook To Macbook Air

Aug 12, 2009

She has a white macbook with leopard I think, and has a separate partition in which she has boot camp, she uses specialized software that can only run in windows (doesnt run in vm). She got a new macbook air but wants to keep everything intact.

Do programs like duper clone drives with all files intact, including partitions? Keep in mind that the windows side is more important, installation of this software can only be done remotely from Russia, so it's a bit of a hassle if we screw up, we have to contact IT at a specific time and get them to do it.

Would I have to take the drive of the macbook air out? Or can i just clone to an external hard drive and then move that to the mba hard drive, in target disc mode or something.

HP/Compaq :: Restoring Entire Hard Drive FromBackup And Recovery

Jan 3, 2009

Problem: I cannot restore my hard drive to its previous condition using HP Backup and Recovery Manager. I would appreciate any help in this matter

Computer: HP 2710p Tablet/convertible.

Two weeks ago, I backed up my entire hard drive using the HP Backup and Recovery Manager choosing the "Back up entire hard drive" option. I backed this up to a subdirectory on an external hard drive. I figured that I could easily restore it back should it crash and have everything (operation system, applications, and documents) right where it was and as it was configured. I was running Vista Professional.

Yesterday I had some sort of problem that would not allow the computer to boot. Hardware diagnostics indictated that the hard drive was fine. I grabbed the recovery DVDs (these are Windows XP) that came with the computer and successfully was able to get the computer working again. So, now I have a working computer - though it is in XP not Vista. My intent was to restore the hard disk back to where it was two weeks ago.

I have unsuccessfully attempted to restore using the HP Backup and Recovery Manager. When I get use the "Start PC Recovery" option, it tells me, "The system does not have a recovery partition. The recovery process requires the recovery disc set or Rescue Disk." "Please insert disk 1 of the recovery disk set or the Rescue Disc." Here's the problem - I don't have these in Vista - only in the XP disks that I used yesterday to recessitate the computer. This is not what I want..........

HP Pavilion 15-E009TU Display :: Bluish Tint On Entire Screen

Aug 10, 2014

I own the HP PAVILION 15-E009TU notebook. It is just 10 months old. I had some grey lines in the LCD screen few days ago and called hp for warranty replacement. a technician came and replaced the LCD screen with a new one.

However the new screen has a sort of Blue tint the entire screen. I have tried different colour setting which may fix it in windows but the blue tint is still there when windows is booting up and in the BIOS. I mean what? Did I just get a faulty/refurbished screen again? Also the screen doesn't look HD like my original screen. Is there anyway to verify that I got the exact model screen I originally had? and what about the blue tint? should i try warranty again?

Apple :: MBP - Connecting To My Wireless Network

May 27, 2009

I have a USB dongle connected to the USB port on the left side of my MBP. I'm not sure which side the wireless adapter is located in the MBP, but there seems to be interference between the two as I just been having alot of problems connecting to my wireless network. Because of the lack of space on my desk, the left side of the MBP is facing toward a wall (parallel to it), so therefore the Magsafe, USB, and audio ports are facing toward the wall. I have not been able to even detect my wireless network until I decided to remove the USB dongle temporarily and rescan for wireless networks. It finally worked then! So, do you guys think there is a possibility the USB dongle is interfering with the wireless adapter built in MBP? If so, what can I do about it (the right USB port is powering a WD Passport because the left USB does not provide enough power)?

Apple :: Network Browsing Difficult/ Slow

Jan 21, 2009

out of the blue connecting to a server takes about 20-30 seconds. This problem remains, also the connections close by themselves. When I boot linux on this machine there is no problem. Other machines on the network have no problems. Connecting to these other machines with this laptop show the same results ->slow connection, difficult browsing. (the domain controller is a slack box - no machine restrictions are in order)

-Firewall is down for the occasion but no effect.
-There were no recent updates.
-It doesn't matter what interface I use wireless or Ethernet.

My guess is problem with samba. Restarting samba or restarting osx have no effect. Resolve.conf shows the right info and HTTP traffic is normal.
I find reinstalling is no option. I want to know the problem and if there are more users with the same problem.
OS: OSX 10.5.6

Apple :: MacBook Pro 17" (1920x1200) I5-540M Or MacBook Pro 15" (1650x1080) I7-620M

Apr 16, 2010

I've been looking at basicly two models, both got almost the exact same price tag here in Norway, so I'm not sure which one to go for.

The first ones is a MacBook Pro 15" with High-resolution 1650x1080 glossy screen, featuring the top of the line Intel Core i7-620M CPU the other is a MacBook Pro 17" with even higher resolution (1920x1200) glossy screen, featuring the slightly slower Intel Core i5-540M.

I don't list the other specifications as I don't really care about them, I already got a pair of 4GB 1600MHz CL7 (2x2GB) DIM's and a Intel X25-M 80GB SSD that I'll be using anyway.

There will be lots of movies and series played on my MacBook Pro, that's why I don't really considering paying a premium for the anti-glare screen, even though I love anti-glare and tend to struggle with glossy screens I don't see the point in actually paying more for it. And when watching movies and series, in often very dark rooms the glossy screen actually have some advantages.

The hard thing to decide here is slicker and lighter, with smaller screen and lower resolution, but better CPU versus the bigger, more heavy but featuring bigger screen and Full-HD+ resolution but slower CPU.....................
